Preach: The Catholic Homilies Podcast

128

What makes a great Catholic homily, and what goes into the art of delivering it well? “Preach” is a new weekly podcast from America Media that features a diverse cast of the finest Catholic preachers. Each week, preachers open up their hearts and minds, sharing their spiritual lives, approaches to interpreting scripture and techniques for preparing the best homilies. On each episode, listeners will meet Catholic preachers, learn about their communities and hear their Sunday homilies, delivered with a podcast audience in mind. In the second part of the show, preachers will unpack the making of their homily with the show’s host, Ricardo da Silva, S.J., to offer a privileged peek into their lives as ministers of God’s Word, to enable all preachers to keep preaching the Good News.Read the homilies featured on the podcast and get daily Scripture reflections from America Media by becoming a subscriber: www.americamagazine.org/subscribe“Preach” is made possible through a generous grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc, as a contribution to its Compelling Preaching Initiative, funding the development of preachers across the United States.

    Different perspective
This has become a go to source for my homily preparations for Sundays. Many times the preacher gives a different view on the readings. Hope it keeps going!

Thank you for supporting women in our Church!
The episode just done with Ellie Hidalgo was absolutely amazing, inspiring and powerful—she was so thoughtful and insightful…both as a preacher and as a change agent, inspired by the Holy Spirit, within the Catholic Church. Thank you to the Preach podcast and to America Magazine for being allies in advancing the roles of women within the Church. God Bless!

For Givers and Receivers of Good Preaching…
I’ve always valued good homilies and preached retreat talks. I find this podcast so interesting and helpful as I give retreat talks as well And want to learn from the best. The guest preachers, all unique and gifted, share how they’ve been called and how they prepare their homilies and talks. Ricardo de Silva and team have done an excellent job dreaming up and developing this podcast. It’s much needed and much appreciated! Mona Snider

    Preachers: Don’t miss an episode
I look forward to episodes dropping every Monday, especially when I am preparing a homily for the upcoming Sunday. The guests provide a wide range of views on how to prepare to preach. Ricardo conducts wonderful interviews. You can tell how passionate he is about helping priests and deacons prepare to give outstanding homilies. I wish I could give this podcast 10 stars! May the work of this podcast help to bring Christ and the Good News throughout the world.

    Engaging Podcast
Truly appreciate the wisdom and the takes each preacher has on the readings for each week. Of great interest is the post-homily discussion. This podcast appeals to the mind, the heart and the soul. Would love to see it expand from Sunday homilies to preparing to preach for retreats, Reconciliation Services, Wedding and Funeral Services. Keep up the great work.

    Enlightening and Deep
These interviews are heartfelt and searching as the preachers probe deep to uncover different facets of the Good News in creative and inspiring ways. This podcast both uplifts me and prepares me for the Sunday liturgy as a believer and offers me invaluable insights and techniques as an aspiring preacher. Thank you! Keep up the great work!

    Impactful
I’ve shared the link with our new parish deacon, who hopefully will also suggest this mentorship to our pastor! Each interview enlightens a different shadowy characteristic of unempowered preaching. May the yield be great!

    Very promising start…
I was moved by the content of Fr Greg Chisholm’s homily…and encouraged by the discussion and insights that enveloped it. What a blessing, to know that we have priests like him (and Ricardo) who take this responsibility to heart. We need more such great preachers…the people of God are hungry for their prayerful words and energy!

    Great way to introduce conversation
My family likes to listen to these and then we discuss what we gained from each passage and reading. The voice is so clear and really helps present the word clearly. We were very disappointed it was so short, would love these to go with the posts every week.

    Imagine
I love this mini spiritual practice. I had tried to do it on my own, but I was a mere spectator in my imaginations. Your guidance brought me as a participant in the Gospel story. Love your voice and the background music. Thank you. Look forward to more episodes.

    Imagine prayers
This was a wonderful way to experience prayer. I could really put myself in the scene and had a consoling experience of the presence of God. Looking forward to more Imagine!

    Imagine
What a wonderful gift this Lent. I’ve often heard about this spiritual practice, and I tried to do it on my own, but I’ve never been successful till now. It has been a game changer in the way I think about these very familiar stories. Thank you America Magazine.

    Imagine is a wonderful gift
While I wish it had its own channel, the first two episodes of Imagine have been a wonderful gift to us at the beginning of Lent. As is true with the Examen podcast America produces, Imagine takes a prayer practice I’ve long heard about but never had the patience to do fruitfully and serves it up in a format that forces me to slow down to a pace that allows me to be open to its graces. Thank you. Tucker Redding is an able guide through this. I really appreciate this!

    Oasis in the Desert
At home we read the Lectionary before going to Sunday Mass then follow it by listening and reading to Fr Michael Simone’s insightful reflection. For the many times the priest at Mass gives a flat sermon, Fr Michael brings the Sunday readings into focus for which we are tremendously grateful. AMDG

These reflections on the Sunday’s readings are excellent. This is a wonderful way to prepare for the liturgy of the word for the upcoming Sunday.

    Wonderful
Betsy Cahill's reflections are always fabulous--heartfelt, engaging, and a great way to start the morning. I've subscribed to her Advent and Lenten email newsletter for a couple of years, and I am so happy to have the podcast available now!
