MMK805Out of touchNot sure how I ended up here and just listed to one episode but was quite taken back when the host argues moral standards have slipped since HV in the 60s. This shows he is only focused on sex and not general living conditions for populations as a whole. A very, very narrow view of morality indeed. Since the 60s, countless people have been lifted out of poverty, we have expanded human rights for women and children, we have changed voting laws etc. civil rights for minority populations have also been significantly expanded. Notably in Italy, women are no longer encouraged to marry their rapists which was encouraged so that the MAN could eliminate the charges against him. Perhaps the host should consider that we just did a better job of hiding our human nature in the 60s and what was done in the darkness has been brought to light.

jdbh17History in contextNot sure how I found the Popecast, but my favorite part has been the historical background and context of the Popes. As I’ve learned more history, I’ve learned the waves of sanctity and debauchery that have flowed through the years, and seeing where various papacies have fallen during those eras has been fascinating. I’ve also loved the connections of the popes with each other (before they became Pope) and with other various historical figures, both saints and sinners, rulers and religious. Keep it up! As I look at my finances I’ll see if I can donate, but I’m also heading back to grad school soon, so I’m grateful this is still available for free.

Hapearce1975Disappointed for what I neededWhen I saw this podcast I got so excited because I’m a new Catholic, converted Protestant, and know next to nothing about the last 2,000 years of Christianity. A podcast on the Popes was exactly what I’m looking for. Episode 1, Peter, and off we go… Only, #2 wasn’t #2. It wasn’t a chronological introduction to the Popes. I was immediately lost, no foundation to understand the situation the Pope was living in. I’m sure lifelong Catholics will appreciate just the “greatest hits”, but it’s so hard to find a good source to give a timeline on issues and events of each era. I really think that the only people capable of jumping around the timeline with the Popes will be people that already know the Popes.

NicG327Outstanding history!Believe it or not, I found this podcast as I was watching The Young Pope & New Pope series during the summer and wanted to learn about the actual papal history. I’m now caught up on the podcast to say Matthew has done a great job diving into the nitty gritty to the great & worst successors to the chair of Peter. Being nondenom Protestant this helped me grow appreciation & the importance of Catholicism. God is good, look forward to more episodes!

ZaspacAmateur is accurateI admire the goal of this podcast, but I have to acknowledge that there is not much depth nor (at least in the early episodes) a great wealth of research. The biographies are very brief sketches, containing roughly the depth of the Wikipedia article on the Pope in question. Certainly an amusing brief overview, but nothing more.

marie5573The PopecastI just discovered The Popecast. I’ve been reading the “Popes in a Year”emails. I’m on my third reading and hope you continue every year. I learn more each time I read them again. I love the history lesson I receive as l learn about the Popes in chronological order. The Popecast gives more information about the Popes. So good to learn that even though we’ve had some bad Popes many have been so good, Saintly in fact. I hope to be able to catch up on all past episodes. Keep up the good work.

Docburr05Our human ChurchThis is a great podcast building on his emails. They give me great perspective about how to reconcile better the meeting of the human and the divine with these very human popes. It’s like listening to family stories that prove that truth can be so much more stranger and entertaining than fiction. Well done!

bunnyofhonorInformative and fascinating, a pleasure to listenThis is an awesome podcast, it brings so much insight into the life and faith of his subjects. The narrator’s voice is a pleasure to listen, and he brings such a balance to this fascinating topic. Far from being detached by the years, there is a human realism that brings a better understanding of the topic. This is a gem of a podcast, for Catholics, christians or those who haven’t begun their faith journey. Enjoy! I’d like to thank the producers for bringing such a high-quality podcast, I truly enjoy this podcast more than any other I’ve listened to. Keep up the great content!

The S.K.P. MachinePope-tastic!“The Popecast” highlights the good & does not shy away from the bad. The more we know about Church history, especially papal history, the more astonishing is God’s protection of His Church, despite all the attempts of popes, priests, & laity to destroy her across the ages.
