    Uhh.. Disappointing
“Sleepy” stumbles out of the gate with distracting verbal tics. The narrator's frequent "uh" and "um" interruptions in the introduction set a disappointing tone. As the story unfolds, the monotone delivery fails to create the calming atmosphere expected for a sleep story podcast. Rather than drifting into dreamland, I find myself wide awake, grappling with the narrator's distracting speech patterns. For a more seamless journey to slumber, I’d look elsewhere.

    PG Wodehouse Episode
I was so enjoying your podcasts until I discovered you didn’t know how to pronounce Wodehouse Arundell Leicester I then gave up and were only 20 seconds in.

I love the books and it helps me fall asleep but the ads are way too loud

    Just one thing
I love your show and the books you read from. Your voice is very soothing and will put me right to sleep even if you don’t read completely boringly. Just one thing I’ve noticed: Your de-esser is making your words sound funny because the s is mostly silent in just about everything. Personally, I’d rather hear the whole s. Thanks!

    Good
The only podcast that I can sleep to really recommend for all. Should do more animal tales like how the camel got its hump or Hercules. It also fills me with joy seeing all the positive energy/things in the comments

    Ads are way too loud
I used to really like this as one of my podcasts I use to fall asleep. And then the ads started getting loud. So that, if one episode ended and another started, before I had it set to turn off, it would literally wake me up.

The loud ads jolt me awake
I loved Sleepy and had recommended it all the time to others having issues sleeping. I can’t recommend it anymore. I fall asleep great, but the new ads are so loud and annoyingly harsh that it wakes me up from even a nice deep sleep. No thanks. Defeats the entire purpose of why I listen to it in the first place. I’ll go back to listening to rain or waves at the beach. Bummed.

    Thank you Otis!
I fall asleep in minutes when I listen to Sleepy instead of hours. So glad I found Sleepy

    Relaxing.
Hello! I have been struggling with sleep for multiple years. I appreciate your podcast a lot. The loud ads can be very jarring, but otherwise I have it shut off in an hour and am conked out. Cannot support money wise, but definitely deserve more. Have a good one, and goodnight. 😴💤

    Perfect podcast!
I love listening to sleepy! I’m usually out within the first paragraph of your reading. The only negative I could possibly think of is that the sound level of the sponsor ad is sometimes high and it will occasionally wake me up when it plays on to the next episode. Other than that it’s truly lovely. Please add Anthem by Ayn Rand to the list of recordings!

    I’m obsessed!!!
I listen to this podcast every night mostly the old episodes since they’re longer but I’ve never had any trouble ever falling asleep to this. I’m out working 20 minutes compared to when I don’t listen it’s an hour to fall asleep. I’m so glad that you created this podcast. Love love love this!!!

    Horror hinders sleep
I'm addicted to this podcast! But please, no more stories about ghoulish brides and vampire maids. Spooky and sleep don't go together!

    Best sleepy time podcast
Otis has the best voice to fall asleep to and picks the BEST sleepy stories. I have tried sooooooo many other apps/podcasts and this is the best one and puts me to sleep every time. 💚

    Still loving it
I’ve listened to sleepy since the beginning. I don’t like I’ve ever made it through a whole episode without drifting off to sleep. I also love that Otis is a fellow Vermonter like myself 💚

    I love this podcast!
I have tried countless apps and podcasts over a long period of time to try and find something to help me sleep and then I found Sleepy and my search was over!! This is such a wonderful way to fall asleep, I use it almost every night and it never lets me down. Otis’s voice is so soothing and he has perfect pacing. I love the stories he chooses and I have listened to him read for such a long time that it almost feels like an old friend has come to help me drift off. Thank you, Otis, your podcast has really improved the quality of my life by helping me sleep!!

Like the podcasts but am NOT a horse so don’ appreciate being greeted as HEY. Immature and ignorant high school students have used that in my AP class. Dr, CG

    Why?
If people aren’t openly queer why are you sharing this with the world whether they are still living or not. Do you hear yourself when you say these things? Not great….

    You lost me Otis
With all due respect, you lost my support when you decided to “out” Hans Christian Andersen and Emily Dickinson. I don’t care to know their sexual preference when I listen to or read their material. Their identity as amazing and talented writers is all anyone needs to know.

    This Podcast is Excellent
Otis, you have one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard, and your readings always soothe me to sleep within minutes. You’ve also introduced me to several authors that I have really enjoyed reading recently. Thank you so much for what you do!

    Ads are ruining the show
You HAVE to do something about the ads. I will not be listening until they are fixed. I don’t mind being read an ad but the jarring narrators and music really undermine the entire point of the podcast. I unfortunately can’t afford to subscribe to every podcast I enjoy and feeling like I’m being blackmailed into it makes me less likely to prioritize this one.

    Game-changer
Sleepy really helps with anxiety I get while trying to fall asleep, sometimes I fall asleep during the first episode and sometimes I want to listen to the end and let it play into another episode. I had tried just using sleep sounds but it helps to have something to distract me that isn’t too stimulating. Overall, it has made falling asleep a MUCH more pleasant experience - thank you! I’d love to hear Les Miserables (I haven’t quite caught up on the episodes since listening, so I apologize if that’s been done) and I’ve also been loving the continuations (such as The Secret Garden and The Wind in the Willows). The Little Princess and Sherlock Holmes were awesome as well! Again, thank you 😁

    Sleepy…sleepy…sleepy…ADS SCREAMING AT ME!!
Please remove them. You’re my favorite sleep pod😖

One of the best sleep podcasts around!
I’ve tried a number of sleep podcasts, some of which have worked, and others have not. Sleepy has become my new favorite, and it works like a charm every night! If you’re looking for a simple sleep podcast that consists only of a story, this is for you. I’d love to hear Great Expectations read on the podcast. Dickens’ writing is perfectly verbose, and is sure to put listeners right to sleep! Update: Used to love this show but the ads have killed it. For some reason Scooter and the Sleep With Me podcast are the only ones who have stuck to their guns when it comes to keep the ad reads sleepy. Just can’t do this one anymore and I don’t like being forced to support financially to get the promised product.

    Used to be a Fav
I’ve listened to sleepy to help when i cant sleep for over a year now but since the new ads I’ve had to find other options. The ads are wayyy louder and so tonally different from the quality and vibe Otis brings and just ruin the relaxing atmosphere. I know ads help support the show but it was so much better when he would read any ads himself in the same volume and tone as the rest if the show.

    Dreamy
I truly enjoy sleepy! So much so because I love hearing the classics read to me in such a dreamy pleasant voice . Many a time I do not want to fall asleep but hear the wonderful story told to the end🥰
  • JKMSJS
    Poor ad choices/volume
Wow. You need to change the show name from Sleepy to Jarring. I know you get money from advertisers but the ones you have are so loud and startling. Kind of the antithesis of the point of the podcast. Unfortunately had to stop listening bc the loud ads between shows woke me each time. Otherwise it’s a great podcast.

The narrator’s voice is like Valium. Enjoyed the cadence and tone. Don’t know if I’ll listen while driving.

    Perfect
I can never finish an episode, both wonderful and sad! I love Otis’s calming voice and I want to hear an entire reading but it’s too effective and I fall asleep within 20 minutes each time. I also listen for about 10 minutes on my work break if I’m really stressed (corporate level) does the trick!
  • Gamelc
    It’s the voice
The new ads are so loud and jarring. It ruins the whole vibe. Otis has a magical voice that used to lull me to sleep. He could be reading anything. But now the loud ad thing is not working for me.

    Works like a charm
Every time I turn this on I’m out within 10 minutes 😴
  • Addinoelle
Please be mindful of your ads.
I love your voice and the stories you read but I can’t listen if I’m being jarred out of a nice snooze! I hope you have make the ads less intense because I like to listen to episodes consecutively.
  • cloudy_skye_27
Literally the only voice I can fall asleep to
His voice is so soothing, and the stories are so unique. I love how he doesn’t just stay with the classics, but branches out to others we might not know of. 10/10

    Oh, Otis! (Revised)
Otis, The new ads are ruining the podcast. They’re antithetical to soothing sleep. I as well as many others have stopped listening. They are disrupting our sleep and completely defeating the point of your reading. Please reconsider partnering with whatever is causing them. I’ve reluctantly found a new podcast. Oh, Otis. I’m indebted to you for the many hours of peaceful sleep that you’ve helped me achieve with that angel’s voice. A couple of requests: it might be too late to do something spooky, but The Yellow Wallpaper is really an anytime classic. Why limit eerie goodness to October? Far From the Madding Crowd would make my lit nerd heart soar. The Story of an Hour is also excellent and would be suited for your show. If you aren’t limited to works in the public domain, as I imagine that you are: Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been by Joyce Carol Oates is a breathtaking short story. If you can’t tell, I like eerie entries into the female psyche! I hope you’ll take some of these suggestions! I’d be honored and excited. But even if you don’t, THANK YOU for consistently excellent content. All my love and all of my zzzzzz’s! Talbot

    Long episodes are perfect
Other similar podcasts have episodes lasting about 30 minutes, some even less. This one offers long stories that are read in monotone, perfect for falling asleep.

    Great story telling
I’ve had to change my review because the ad that plays before the episode. It’s so much louder than the podcast. I don’t mind ads, the issue is the volume difference. It’s so loud that it wakes you up. I put headphones on every night and listen all night and I just can’t do that anymore.
  • Yamsies
    Used to be my favorite
Sadly, since Sleepy joined a podcast network they are playing some jarring ads at the beginning. If my podcast moves to a next episode, I get startled awake by the ads. It’s a bummer. I get that it’s a bonus of patreon subscriptions but it totally defeats the purpose of the podcast to have a loud Home Depot ad wake someone up you just put to sleep. I was a subscriber but I cancelled because while I adore Otis’s voice and readings, it’s kind of donk move to force subs like that. 😕

    Jarring ads
I completely understand needing to have ads, however the new ads are just loud and jarring. What happened to reading the ads so they stayed within the tone of the show? I used to sleep with headphones and Otis reading to me all night, I can no longer do that with the new format. I tried the paid version too, and could not find the paid rss feed so had to cancel. Off to search for a new podcast to sleep to, I feel like I’ve lost a friend.

Please. Fix vol on purpose show
Otis. Love sleepy. AND I understand you’re expanding and getting other supporters. The Purpose Show insert that suddenly appeared before your recorded podcasts is an abrupt and louder volume than Sleepy So if I listen to one of sleepy faves and drifting towards sleep suddenly Ms Bright Cheerful Louder Ms Allie from Purpose show blurts out a greeting and wakes me back up. 😡. Please adjust her stetting or choose a diff supporter to stop the jumpy flow. Best zzz regardszzzz
