Velvet's Edge with Kelly Henderson

903

Kelly Henderson began her career in the Nashville country music scene over 15 years ago, orchestrating her impressive ascent from the ground up. Working closely grooming and styling for country music heavy-hitters Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean, Riley Green and Jordan Davis, as well as media giants CMT, Billboard and more, Henderson has established herself as a go-to resource within the industry.  Henderson began offering an intimate insight into her work via her highly successful lifestyle blog, “Velvet’s Edge,” which began as a place her audience could find tips on fashion, travel, fitness, health and more.  As Henderson evolved, so her content has expanded. “People aren’t one dimensional, even though sometimes we try to live that way,” she says. With an ever-growing demand from her invested online followers, Henderson has now launched an extension of her blog in the form of a podcast of the same name via iHeartMedia. She uses her expertise and speaks from a decade long journey in 12-step recovery, intensive experiential therapy and other holistic modalities combined with her successful career as a tastemaker, artist and stylist to explore the deeper inner working of humans, celebrities and healers alike. The Velvet’s Edge Podcast normalizes hard conversations, “taboo” topics and people’s ever evolving journeys, while promoting healing, inner peace and the road to a happy and fulfilling life experience. The podcast is built on Henderson’s motto, “Everyone has a little Velvet and a little Edge, I’m just here to help people feel comfortable with that and hopefully get on the path to living their best life.”

New episodes are released every Wednesday and Friday, with Henderson leading the charge on Wednesday's on 'the Velvet' side of things- interviewing experts, celebrities and spiritual leaders in line with each monthly topic. She is joined on Friday's for 'the Edge' by co-host and friend, Chip Dorsch, to explore the lighter side of the things, laugh and connect with listeners!

    Interviews
I absolutely love the pod but I wish The Edge had less interviews. I love Kelly and Chip’s banter with each other. Also love love love astrologer Mark’s monthly episodes :)

    VERY informative & fun!
Honestly Kelly & Chip are so easy to relate to and fun! My fave podcast ever. I learn so much from them and when I need human conversation as opposed to music etc I go here every time. LOVE the new cover photo!

    👏💕
You know when you meet up with a friend for a quick happy hour but then time flies because you’re having too much fun talking it out and it gets deep but it’s also fun and light and when you do finally leave you’re feeling like your cup is full again and the whole world sparkles a little more? This podcast is like that.

Will Smith’s Obvious Trauma Reaction @ the Oscars
I’m so thankful somebody finally had the BALLS to go against the main stream banter that slams Will, upholds poor victimized Chris Rock and that in my opinion (for the most part) is just uninformed, ignorant and reactionary. I absolutely LOVED Kelly and Chip’s podcast where they had an honest conversation about what they both felt regarding the Will Smith/Chris rock Oscar incident. First and foremost I think it’s fantastic that two friends can have an open conversation where they may slightly disagree in what they think but they are still able to communicate and respectfully hear each other‘s points. What’s also incredible to me is it that often when we engage in conversation like that and instead of getting defensive and just trying to get a point across, if we actually pause for a minute and truly listen to the other person — we may realize that what they are saying is not terribly different than what we are saying. Both Kelly and Chip both adamantly agreed that Will Smith’s actions were unacceptable… I just LOVED that Kelly challenged us to offer a little grace and think deeper about what may have been going on behind the scenes with a person who obviously reacted impulsively in a full blown trauma reaction. Anyone who watched that go down in real time could see that something major was going on with Will as he was struggling to emotionally keep it together for quite some time after he reacted. Obviously — the dude was bawling his head off like a baby on live TV in front of the entire world!! He was obviously not ok. At no point did Kelly condone his actions, she just challenged us to think about what was going on behind what we physically saw. I know this is something I need to practice in my daily life, whether it be people I know or people I don’t know!! Ugh, our culture is just SO QUICK TO BE JUDGMENTAL. If I just strove to think a little more before forming an opinion consistently, and more people did that — this whole world would be a completely different place!!! Thanks so much Kelly and Chip — for continuing to bring honesty, depth, flair and humor to all kinds of topics. I love the balance of this podcast and I’ll be a loyal listener forever. Ignore the bitchy haters - they’re just jealous that they have zero platform so the best they can do is use negative reviews to get their nasty, toxic assholishness out there. Nobody caresssssss!!!!!!!!! Podcast on guys!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

You must be super insecure to take up for Will Smith

    My favorite
Love all episodes and how raw and honest Chip and Kelly are!

    Confusing and superficial
I don’t understand what these recent episodes are about. Kelly talks about a breakdown but there’s no real depth in the conversation. Seems like you are talking in code or being evasive. I understand you had a break up but that doesn’t seem to be the only issue. Really trying to resonate with this but the generalities aren’t helpful.

    Too woke!
I used to listen but DANG they act like their woke liberal views are better than anyone else’s. Super disheartening to listen to. I quit completely and do not recommend anyone starts listening. Nobody cares about their political stance. Huuuuggggeee mistake sprinkling that in.

I love Kelly and Chip, but it’s obvious they don’t love us
I used to love these podcasts…. But the repeating of episodes, or the no notice of not having a new episode is pretty annoying. Also, the topics are so boring on the Edge side when they used to be HILARIOUS! I hope Kelly can fine herself back to the funny fun loving host… because her vibe is definitely bringing me down.

Act Casual while your mouth is on the floor 🥰
This podcast is real, open and honest! Listen and learn things you didn’t know you needed in your life.

    Smart & Funny
Kelly has a voice for podcasting. Having moved here from Northern VA and Denver, it is refreshing to listen to a woman that encourages women to be strong, equal with men. Nashville is a beautiful city but tends to be full of extreme conservatives.

    My favorite podcast
I love this podcast so much. It’s the perfect mix of amazing interviews with insightful people with Kelly and her guests on Wednesday’s, and the hilarious stories and nonstop laughter on Act Casual. I look forward to listening every week and honestly can’t stop laughing with Kelly and Chip on Friday’s.

    Act CASUALLLLL
I live for act casual on Fridays. Kelly and Chip are so relatable and hilarious. Their willingness to be candid about topics others shy away from is so appreciated. ✨

    The language is repulsive
Wanted desperately to listen to this podcast but the repeated foul language is just a major turnoff. Elevate your language - it’s much more attractive. Total let down.

    Act Casual
I only listen to the Friday show Act Casual but it’s so good! Jelly and Chip are very relatable and they share things that not everyone is willing to discuss. I appreciate their candor!

    Authentic & Real
Love the variety of topics that Kelly discusses on her podcast series! Never one to shy away from the hard parts of life, she meets them with genuine grit and grace and that shows up in her conversations and through her curiosity and teachable spirit. She also knows how to laugh and be playful in her interactions and I appreciate the balance and levity that her humor brings to any conversation. Five stars from me!

    Fun Listen
Entertaining and funny, but with depth and vulnerability. This podcast is worth a listen. Grab a cold beverage and enjoy some relaxation and insight listening to Kelly during these hot summer days.

    Love this Podcast!
Coming from someone who isn’t the biggest Podcast fan in general, this one is incredible and the only one I listen to. Kelly is hilarious, smart, and compassionate. Every podcast is different, interesting, and relatable! Love love love this podcast!

    Long time listener giving up
I’ve listened to this podcast since the beginning which is why I’m giving a 3 instead of a 1. I always enjoyed the conversations but holy crap every single episode is now about either relationships and sex or mediums/horoscopes/tarot type stuff. Just not my thing and incredibly boring. I delete almost every episode now.

    Kids aren’t content
The children whose lives are described in these podcasts are my children. As their mother, I’ve repeatedly asked that their experiences not be used in this way. The children have also asked this of me and their father- they have explicitly stated that they do not want to be discussed in a podcast. It is disingenuous to talk about empowering women while exploiting this new relationship with these girls for personal gain.

    This podcast is the worst
Honestly, if you can get over the nails-on-chalkboard drawl of Kelly’s voice you will be vastly disappointed by the shallow content and downright dangerous advice she presents in her podcast. If you want to listen to the immature ramblings of a privileged white girl who was obviously never forced to do a hard thing in her life, this is the podcast for you. Be forewarned, the only way to listen to this podcast is drunk.
  • Kellynne
    Not for me
Don’t like this podcast at all. I only listened to a handful of episodes hoping it would get better. But the discussion is shallow and the voices get on my nerves pretty quickly. Also, a little disappointed that I heard about it from the Bobby Bones folks, because the topics and language are somewhat R rated at times.

    Not worth the listen
Honestly not worth the listen. Don’t waste your time.

    Lacks intellectual stimulation, poor editing
There have been very few podcasts I’ve enjoyed and while I Think Kelly is so sweet and funny I just think a lot of the feeling of these podcasts is more like a late night gossip show than an informational/educational or even enjoyable podcast. The topics are mostly very surface or high school. However I have enjoyed ones where entrepreneurs were interviewed or nonprofits. But again the questions seem to not be researched ahead of time and they’re just very surface. I think Kelly could benefit from shadowing another podcaster or from reading a journalism book. I really wanted to like this podcast but it just wasn’t intellectually stimulating enough for me...

Needed This Podcast with Melody Godfrey
In a season of my life right now where this could not have been a better episode for me. And the beginning of the episode Kelly was so open with a lot she is going through. So authentic and vulnerable with her listeners!! The BEST!
