Guy67610/10This is the entire reason I have the Apple Podcasts app. Exactly the type of detailed deep dive into history I’ve always wanted.
-
NjgdtvjuffInaccurate, Euro-centeredI like the narrator, he has a personable tone, but his information is consistently coming from a Judeo Christian European centered vaguely racist perspective. Alternatively, I would recommend Tides of History or the Fall of Civilizations Podcast. Their information is much more broad in perspective.

alltheusernamesaretaken777Context is KingWhile I don’t listen on iTunes, Spotify doesn’t allow reviews, so I decided to leave this review here to further support the show. This podcast is excellent. I was concerned that it might be scant on info since Chris is attempting to illuminate history from the beginning of the Homo genus to the modern day, but I have since been pleasantly surprised by the - as I’ve described to friends of mine - apparent love affair with context. Even when discussing battles, Chris will take the history back to the first human presence in the area. Despite the broad ambition of the show, it is dense with information. Including the unscripted podcasts (which are more than worth it), there is enough information presented to thoroughly satisfy a master’s program in history. Add in the methodical and delightfully British delivery, and you have a show that is more than worth it’s value. If knowledge were wealth, anyone listening would be well financed for their time. 100/10

i<3mcvetThe History of the World Podcast is AwesomeIn searching for prehistory content on apple podcasts, I came across Chris’s podcast. The History of the World Podcast is Awesome! I started at the beginning, and am now through all of Volume 1. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Chris is a great narrator - very informative and engaging. He uses a lot of common sense in reviewing prehistorical periods, but is careful to point out areas of scientific disagreement or controvercy. I highly recommend Volume 1, and am looking forward to ancient and classical civilization up next!

Canada joe bobLove this podcast. So thoroughness and qualityChris, I long wished to go back and study ancient works history of my high school days, when I stumbled across your podcast about 2-3 years ago. I generally listen during my commute. Everything is wonderful about the podcast. You do such a thorough and fabulous job of guiding the listener through this absolutely massive subject! I recently finished the profile set on Julius Cesar. All such interesting stuff. And your job is only going to get bigger as we come into more modern times and there is more material and more to cover! This is a enormous project you’ve set before yourself. I’m a little late in coming to the poll, but like the battle sounds and voice of God features. I also like how you give geographical references to modern cities. This is especially important if one is listening from the car so we can later go and look at a map. I also love when you provide reference to ancient origins of modern day words/phrases/monuments, etc. Also super love the interspersed of focus podcasts, eg Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, Medicine in the Prehistoric World, etc. And I want to highlight appreciation for covering often lesser highlighted cultures such as South American prehistory, Asian, African, etc. Keep up the great work. We really appreciate you and the effort it takes to produce such a quality work of this size. Hats off to you

jv1121Came for the Australopithecines & prehistory, staying for the fantastic storytelling & the accent!I’m on volume 2, episode 17 and can’t step away. Thanks for this excellent body of work! I’m a huge fan of Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History - he digs into ancient & modern history really deeply. His latest is a 4-hour part 1 in the life & times of Alexander the Great. He’s not a prehistory guy, though, and that’s what led me to you. I’m learning so much & enjoying every minute. 😊💕 Julie in Pennsylvania USA

TaggeronGlobal world name option?Wonderful podcast, which takes us step-by-step through the journey of humanity on this earth. I have enjoyed it for years, been a member of his Patreon and was sure that I had already left review before. I guess I forgot that. Happy to rectify it and help support wherever possible. Also on a recent podcast, you were trying to figure out what you were going to name the next section. I like the term global world instead of trying to do the gunpowder world or something else. After leaving the medieval age, the world becomes more interconnected and global in nature.

PatrothLove your showBeen listening to the podcast a while now and I’m hooked. Currently on the Peloponnese episodes and it feels like things are starting to accelerate. Your humble dedication to this project is an inspiration. I also needed a soothing podcast to listen to when I got my first hemorrhoid and this hit the spot. Thanks Chris!

The Left BlankWell DoneI like this program. It is just the right level of information for someone who knows nothing to sound intelligent. Plus the presenter’s personal asides make him seem like a friend to choose for a lonng roadtrip.
-
bolyburgPrehistoryI enjoy this podcast. However I very much believe in a young earth creation. I believe that the observed data fits creation much better than evolution. However I do appreciate the, as far as I know, the accurate depiction of current evolutionary theory. As a creationist I should have at least a basic knowledge of what evolution teaches. I very much enjoyed the latest history in this podcast, especially the one about Cahokia mounds. As to manner of speaking, I grew up near Chicago and later in life moved to Wisconsin near Green Bay and there are subtle but noticeable differences in that distance and find that interesting.
-
daddyoroksFun and interestingI enjoy the podcast after my American ears adjusted to the accent it is very knowledgeable and interesting I listen everyday on my route as I deliver the mail!Thankyou for your time in giving us this podcast!!

Samed227Top shelf history podcast!I had discovered this podcast a few years and as a truck driver it is thee BEST thing. I study history in my free time so it’s great to have this resource to come back to. Very informative and unbiased information and the host Chris is great. I assumed you were Australian at first but now that I’ve listened through enough episodes, I know you’re English. Cheers ! Keep it up and I can’t wait to catch up to the most recent episodes !

Ferngineer F.FantasticAlready through Vol 1-3. Unbelievably great. I’ve had this in my ear every moment someone wasn’t talking to me or sleeping since finding. Can’t wait to get caught up.
-
Nyarl de la ThotepEven-keeledThat’s some good historical presentation. In response to another review that took issue with how Chris framed evolution; I really don’t know what this is about because I listened to the early episodes and didn’t see any deviation from the dominant theory of evolution as characterized by the modern scientific discipline. I think it’s all a fine job of presenting a survey of the predominant conclusions of various field’s experts.
-
J1BJKDGreat Content; thanks Chris! Thanks Chris, you’ve given me hundreds of hours of great content and I love you for it.
-
disappointed1976!BrilliantChris is a profound lover of history, and that passion shows in every episode. His podcasts are throughly researched and lovingly presented, and he is an engaging, likable and unassuming host. I'm 30 episodes in and I'm not stopping till I reach the end
-
Crowell iTunesUmI’m sorry to be negative - it’s just that I came to question the reliability of this podcast early on. First, the podcast makes several references to Charles Darwin claiming that humans came from monkeys. No, he did not say anything of the kind. Ever. It’s a very uneducated thing to say. And monkeys are simians and the last common monkey/ape ancestor was more than 25 million years ago, so it’s just silly. I still hung in there for a few episodes but a few other things seemed a bit suspect. However, the host may be a true expert on other things. I just couldn’t trust it.

Desert Dog Sr.Finally! Finally there’s a history podcaster with the work ethic to match my addiction for history podcasts. This guy turns them out like a machine. The quality isn’t as polished as others I like, but some of those take HALF A YEAR OR MORE to come out with a new episode. To me that extra production value is not worth it. Quantity over quality for sure on history podcasts, especially because this is still a high tier piece of informative entertainment.

Seattle Lifelong LearnerIncredible! My husband and I just discovered this extraordinarily well-researched and entertaining podcast. We are riveted and learning SO MUCH! Bravo Chris!

Tenn_WillExcellent podcast for my commute!I’m curious but relatively uneducated about paleo anthropology. Chris continues to capture my attention while on the road for two hours each day. Most of all, I appreciate the effort he puts into the work so the rest of us can enjoy!

An admirer from renoEasy to understand & entertainingLove this podcast. I listen nightly to relax. Covers a lot of ground in every scripted episode.. Stays away from editorializing —- gives you facts. Keeps it understandable, entertaining, clear and consise. Love it… five stars

Econ GeorgeVery well doneI recently began to listen to this podcast and have finished volume 1 and am 7 episodes into volume 2. Chris has set a daunting task for himself and has done a wonderful job. I am a college professor in the U.S. and have been impressed by his skill in framing, researching and telling "our" story. It has not only informed me, but also a class that I am currently teaching. Thank you and well done!
-
hkl456MonasticismI was disappointed that so little attention was given to female monastic orders, and their unique contributions to western history and society. Specifically the teaching and nursing orders that contributed significantly to the idea of public schools for all and public hospitals. There was also no mention of the desert mothers, so the story as tall seems like a very male story, when, in truth, that’s not quite the case.
-
OmgnfwWell worth your timeI am constantly searching for informative fun and interesting history content and this is one of the best podcasts I have found. Chris is great and I love the scope and format of the show along with Chris’ enthusiasm and openness and even his absolutely wonderful accent.
-
DanP Laguna BeachAmazing!!!Such an incredible pleasure to listen to. Beautifully presented and extremely well researched. For those of you that are fans of In Our Time, that are amazed at Lord Braggs granular knowledge of the material, Chris meets or exceeds that test. Thank you for this amazing resource. Ky RussMr Howard NolandAbsolutely one of the most interesting and enjoyable podcasts I have found thus far. Information presented in a non dogmatic approach allowing the listener to make up his or her mind on the subject. Need more podcasts like this one.

klock316Described in three words: Absolute Top TierI first stumbled across this podcast via the YouTube channel The Study of Antiquity and the Middle Ages. Which, on a minor side note, is something I recommend checking out, very much. The videos were made by a gentleman that is on sync with the Narrator to a degree that I was surprised to find out they weren’t made by the Narrator himself. They add something special to an already exemplary production. This makes me chuckle in retrospect, but after watching all the YouTube like 3 or 4 times I thought “I wonder if there may be more available? What’s this Podcast thing he’s referring to?” I am 40 years old, been connected to the smart phone scene for 10+ years now, voraciously consume history documentaries, and had never actually listened to podcasts. I know, ridiculous right? That has all changed thanks to Chris Hasler. I went from V1E1 to the Alfred the Great episode in maybe two weeks. This podcast is so exceptionally put together that I, and I’m not joking when I say this, nothing came out of my AirPods besides THOTWP until I listened to every last word of this podcast. Chris opened my world to podcasts. Turns out there are all sorts of people interested in the same sh*t as me, and have interesting opinions to share. Thank you Chris, and a big thank you to Nick Barksdale, who’s infectious love of history turned me on to Chris. Rest In Peace Mr. Barksdale. The world is just a little bit better place of a place because of you. Now on to my favorite Chris Hasler colloquialism: “where she fell pregnant.” This makes me laugh every time. Whenever I hear Mr. Hasler talk about a queen or concubine becoming blessed with child, I hear “ The Lady was traveling down the path, where she stumbled upon her husband’s exposed member, where she then fell pregnant. We may never know what her husband’s member was doing there in the first place.” Anyone who is familiar with Chris’s cadence and oration style will probably both be able to hear this in their heads now, and probably never be able to unhear it again. That was my light hearted and jovial gift to the group. You’re welcome everyone. I was always told to leave on a high note, so, with that? I’m getting out while on top. Cheers!
-
Merediths BoyfriendReview from VermontA stunningly in depth reflection on world history with the perfect balance of factual evidence and personal theories. His passion for history is evident while he doesn’t allow his personal opinions and influence to erode any accuracy in his reporting. Cheers Chris, you do a truly brilliant job.

InsultingRetardGoing the distanceCan’t believe someone is taking on literally all of human history. Doing it with good fun and light heartedness too. Really great stuff for history lovers

S.a.mVincentLove this podcast!Just finished s3 ep6 of your podcast and I am addicted! You have a away of telling a story that’s easy to follow and loaded with information. I can’t wait to catch to listen to the rest. Keep up the good work. Thank you so much.
-
OlkabiedronkaLove this!Greetings from Newark, Delaware, USA (aka the 1st state!), I was a history major/anthropology minor in college so naturally I was drawn to this podcast. I was looking for something that went to the very beginning, but it was difficult to find since no one went in chronological order (I realize history doesn’t happen in a straight line but this does a great job of grouping events into periods). I’m very glad I ended up finding this. I process a lot of documents on my computer and listening to this helps pass the time and every so often I learn something new. Thank you for taking the time to research and record this, with such a long timeline this is no small feat! Keep up the amazing work!
-
Chaz DraperLove the podcast!I’ve been listening for about 3 weeks now catching up and I’m on the unscripted series in between 3 and 4 already! Only really was looking for pre-history and got hooked on your podcast right away! Just wanted to say keep up the amazing work and can’t wait to catch up to the current episodes!
-
Dinosaur boyThank youThank you for this. I am on Volume 2 the Phoenicians. At this point you are like an old friend with whom I don’t have to make small talk.
-
M. SnerdHistory of the world podcast - my new best friendFinally… a history podcast that is NOT a rambling, fast talking textbook. Had enough of that in mega collage lecture halls. Entertaining, educational, captivating and very well researched. Chris’ presentation is well paced, clear, organized, does not talk at or down to the listener and you need to love that accent. Highly recommended. Keep up the good work Chris - CHEERS! JL NYC - USA
-
Jimaginator¡Wonderful!Absolutely the best history podcast. We waited a long time for someone to cover it all, and here it is. Love the topics and the objectivity. Very well researched and presented. ¡Keep going Chris!
-
woodeyeglassA gloriously told tale of Humankind’s epic storyThis is a very long overdue 5 star review, as I have listened to every episode through to Volume 4… many episodes I have actually enjoyed multiple times, gathering new info from every listening, and I just wish that history had been told like this when I was back in high school! Chris’s work joins the likes of Kevin Stroud’s History of English as essential listening if you want to understand the true roots and formation of the modern world. Undoubtedly there are other podcasts that shine lights on the perspectives of other cultures and language families, and I look forward to exploring them… but as an English speaking American without a strong sense of connection to where my family came from, the combination of listening to Kevin’s History of English and Chris’s History of the World has given me a much deeper appreciation of the long and tumultuous human story and how we became the peoples we now are. Thank you Chris for your incredible, humble, and engaging approach to telling this tale. You are like a friend I just haven’t met yet, but your voice has constantly joined me as I walk and work, and even when I have run out of new episodes I can always be happy to know there are tales aplenty that I can scroll back to and enjoy yet again. Cheers to you Chris, thanks for all your amazing work to make this podcast a reality!
-
Mom_of_fourFantasticTruly amazing show. Chris’s episodes are well-researched, well-written, and well-presented. I enjoy learning about the History of the World and I really appreciate Chris’s hard work and enthusiasm for the podcast and our history. I’m on Volume 2 and learning so much!
-
MilkyPirate99999Be Good! This podcast is simply amazing. I discovered it during Christmas week when a lot of other podcasts were on a break and I needed something else to listen to. I immediately became addicted and have spent the months of Jan and Feb bingeing all 200 episodes. I am now sad to be caught up and can’t wait to spend the next 5 or 10 years listening week by week until we reach the modern day. I, like many listeners, am ashamed to admit how little history I knew, and how little I thought history interested me, until I discovered this podcast. Chris makes learning history fun!!! Why couldn’t history be taught this way in school?! I would have paid much more attention! Before I found this podcast, I knew that Aristotle, Caesar, Napoleon and Picasso were important historical figures. If you had told me they all lived in 500 BCE, I would have believed you. If you had told me they all lived in the 1800s, I would have believed you. Chris’s podcast has allowed me to place historical figures into their proper historical context, and to truly finally understand history step by step from the very beginning. Thank you Chris for taking us on this amazing journey, I have become a Patreon member as well and am honored to support you and your cause. I can’t wait to keep listening! The only outstanding question is: Will we reach Christopher Columbus by the end of the year 2023??? Can’t wait to listen and find out!
-
EJ ArubaCant get enoughAmazing podcast that is presented in a way where you only want to know what happens next. Started in January this year binging on my commute to work, now finishing volume 2. Appreciate all your work you do. Greetings from Aruba
-
j sonnenbergGreat podcastI have been looking for a history podcast and I’m not disappointed. The host speaks slowly and deliberately making it easy to digest all the information without adding his own spin leaving the listener to make up your own mind. Please keep up the good work
-
ceevee1234Great podcastI’m really enjoying this podcast. Chris has such a relaxing and clear way of speaking and is always interesting. He’s very professional and entertaining yet never becomes annoying by trying to be funny as some podcasters do. It’s obvious he is smart and loves history. Thank you Chris!

Kim VanderWaalJust what I was cravingThis is an excellent and addicting podcast. I always wanted an interconnected history of the world, that draws both parallel and interdependent timelines across ancient cultures. I am in season 2, and my only complaint is the amount of attention paid to British archeologists. In my opinion, their contributions to archeology are emphasized (disproportionately from historians from other countries), without acknowledgment of the extractive/exploitive nature of foreign archeologists in the age of Imperialism. That being said, this is a small point and I overall love listening to this podcast.
