Wine Face breaks down the ins and outs of wine: how it’s made, why it’s important, what you should drink, and why people often make it so elitist. Wine Face features thoughtful interviews with chefs, winemakers, celebs, and some exciting enthusiasts, as well as entertaining opportunities to help listeners learn a new fact or two for their next trip to the wine shop, or even to help plan their next dinner party.Helen Johannesen is a partner at Jon & Vinny’s in Los Angeles, and the owner of Helen’s Wines, the gem box retail wine shop in the back of Jon & Vinny's locations. Helen is the Beverage Director for all Jon & Vinny’s associated restaurants. She hosts wine classes, runs a curated wine club, and was named Best New Sommelier by Food & Wine in 2016.

    Love wine? Get into this!
Not only is Helen’s voice soft and soothing, her knowledge sharing is unpretentious and full of passion. I’m loving the helpful information on which wines to select and what language to use when inquiring about wines. I feel smarter already with my fresh wine face. 🍷

    Where’s the wine?
Used to be more emphasis on wine education but lately too much food not really even pairing and celebrity wines disappointing

Helen’s Wine Brand as a Whole
It’s easy to listen to the podcast and think - Helen knows her wine, and I want to support her business and purchases her wines. Don’t do it. The customer service on the business side is awful, read the online reviews. I placed an order for a gift box well in advance, Helen’s wines forgot to ship it, shipped it late and then fed me some dishonest story that didn’t align with the documented order or shipping details. Offered nothing to make the situation right. In one episode Helen bashes Wholefood’s wine. I will say, my customer service experience is hands down better at Wholefoods than Helen’s wine shop. Listen to the podcast but actually buy organic wines somewhere else where the business is gracious for its customers and provides honest stellar customer service.

the podcast that actually made me pay attention to wine
My husband is obsessed with wine podcasts and I generally find myself a little bored with them. Helen makes wine exciting and fun to learn about and love the entertaining tips!! She’s of course introduced us to some BOMB wine, I am actually in love with Meinklang Frizzante Rosé - thank you, Helen! Hoping for new episodes in 2021!

    Wine Face Love!!!
I love how Helen breaks down all things wine & she doesn’t sound like the typical wine professional -she brings the good wine & fun to the party! Plus she introduces her audience to other women entrepreneurs in L.A. It makes me feel connected to the city which I plan to visit as soon as the Corona vibe is gone! I can’t wait to visit Helen’s Wines & dine at Jon & Vinny’s!! Thanks Helen for being so bomb.com!!! And when can we expect more episodes?? Soon I hope!!! 💖

    Want to love
I found this podcast. Listened to Chenin Blanc episode and got so excited. Great information and delivered in a fun spirit. I love Jon & Vinny’s books and their restaurants. I couldn’t wait to listen to more. I saw the Brit Marling episode, I thought this can’t get better. I listened. I felt really bad. Helen decided to go into some rant about how she wouldn’t touch a wine from Whole Foods and for no reason calls out 48 year old women as “Martha Stewart’s”(who’s is in her 70’s). It felt judgemental, mean, weird , ageist and not supportive of women. She just made me feel irrelevant for being over 45. Total bummer. I wanted to get hooked. I’ll listen more to see how more episodes unfold. Helen, please support women of all ages.

    Amaze balls
Helen has the ultimate cool girl snob-free approach to wine. I’m learning so much about wine, exploring things I didn’t reach for before, and am being more intentional about which producers I’m supporting. Helen, please open a shop in Seattle and be my new BFF. Thanks!

    Quality Pod!
Many podcasts are way too freewheeling and LONG winded. The genius of Helen J’s show is that it’s informative yet succinct, and also sprinkled with her fun lingo and humor! Wine is such a perfect theme for a podcast because there really is so much to learn. I’m enjoying the snack sized portions and I’m looking forward to hearing more!

    Best wine podcast
Every week I look forward to what Helen has up her sleeve. Wine face is an informative podcast that helps navigate you to understanding wine in ways that are enjoyable! From different regions, grapes, producers, food pairings to friends just chatting it up about their business’ while drinking wine. This is a total gem.
  • bonjour_it's_me_charlotte
    Finally a good wine podcast!
If you need a Coronavirus social distancing binge podcast, this is it. Helen has a way of bringing confusing wine topics/regions/grapes to an understandable level without oversimplifying or skimping on necessary information. It’s digestible yet substantive. After listening to the Women in Wine episode I want to say THANK YOU for reminding people that women wine professionals are just that - professionals - and yes we’re sure when we make a recommendation. Thank you Helen for making wine accessible and talking about stuff that matters!!
  • Lilanjy
    Informative and Fun
Helen is knowledgeable and interesting while being inviting and opening up wine knowledge to a wider audience. A must listen if you want to know what your drinking, what your seeing on a wine menu or if you’re interested in wine related history!

    Helens Wine Face
I first got the chance to see Helen at the Nashville food and wine festival. love, love, love her fresh, honest, vibrant and non pretentious outlook on wine ... and life. I have been listening to her podcast ever since. P.S. I’m not a young millennial but just a passionate traveler and want to understand wine more. She is refreshing!!!

    Love!
I love Helen’s podcast because there is so much information in a shorter format. I find myself listening again and again to help me remember everything in each one, and they are so relaxed and entertaining, I love listening to them over and over. And it’s easy, since they are shorter to listen to while walking to work or doing the dishes, whenever! Got 15-20 minutes? Get some wine knowledge from Helen! Thank you, Helen!
  • Jebrown951
    💕LOVE💕
This podcast is excellent! Helen’s relaxed style has allowed me to learn so much about wine and the wine industry without feeling like I’m studying. Each episode is jam-packed with information, and Helen is so hilarious that she makes learning fun.
  • lli19
    Great podcast
Personally prefer the episodes that do not have guests and are more focused on wine education. I’d also be really interested in learning more about Helen’s (and any guests’) experiences working in the food and wine industry, and about the wine industry generally.

    One of my favorites
This is the first review I’ve ever felt compelled to write. I listen to so many podcasts for work and personal growth, but this is one that’s purely for enjoyment. I love turning it on while I’m cooking (and having a glass.) Helen has a way of describing wines that brings them to life in a fun, accessible, but still polished and educational way. Thanks for sending me down the rabbit hole of Beaujolais cru and pet-nat, and supplying me with an unending list of wines to try. Please come back to NYC and host a tasting! One request — any way to do a periodic/seasonal show on favorite value wines for those of us on a budget? Love your show!
  • smaaaaaas

Helen is smart, beautiful, kind, and beyond talented. She inspires and keeps you thirsty for more! New to wine, or if wine is an old friend; this podcast will keep you learning, laughing, and will make your mouth water!

Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about wine
Podcast of my dreams! I’m constantly telling people that I love wine even though I know nothing about it, and have been meaning to take a class for years. This podcast is full of wine gems, and Helen is so relatable and easy to listen to!

    ORANGE WINE
Honestly I am a wine lover but I never knew how much more I could love wine until I started listening to wine face. Helen thank you for podding and teaching us your wine wisdom. I titled this orange wine because I finally found one to try and I have been telling everyone about it. I feel like the smartest person in the room explaining what orange wine is and why it’s orange. Thank you Helen!

I love this podcast so much. Helen takes on a thousands-year-old industry (wine) and makes it accessible and fun. I couldn't recommend this more.

I look forward to it each week!
I found out about Helen from following Ashley Streicher on Instagram and I was interested in learning more about wine! Helen makes it so much fun! She is funny and knowledgeable and breaks everything down in an easy to understand way. Her podcast is very relaxed and she and her guests make it seem like you’re talking with friends. Love it!

    “Bananagrams”
This podcast is appointment listening. It’s TheSkimm of wine— Helen makes a traditionally stuffy and exclusive conversation current, interesting and accessible. I never thought I would know as much as I do about terroir. Keep up the great work!

I can’t stop looking at my hand
Helen breaks it all down for you in refreshingly plain and enthusiastic language. I really enjoyed the overview of the main French wine regions and I’m looking forward to hearing her explain them all in depth. There is no snobbery here, just passion. Can’t wait for the next episode, and I kind of wish I had only found out about this some time next year so I’d be able to binge-listen her wisdom all at once. This podcast is the next best thing to actually living in LA and getting to stop by her shop and hear the stories in person. Keep up the great work!

    Did Helen read my mind?
Last week I said “why is there not a wine podcast by a cool young woman who will teach me about all things wine?” - this week, I discover Wine Face. Fate? Super natural juju? Whatever it is, I’m pleased. Please teach me about all things WINE!
  • Tessinator47
    My Natty BF
This pod is everything I ever wanted in a natty best friend. She’s the one who will give it to you straight, make you laugh, encourage you to have another glass, and make you smarter in a beautifully far-from-condescending way. Here for it. Two suggestions? 1. Wine Face Travel Troupe 2. Can we get a list in the details (or elsewhere) of the wines or winemakers you reference?

    Wine Face Is Solid
Helen knows her wine and her food. Her talk with Courtney, a chef at the hip and popular Jon & Vinny’s in Los Angeles is illuminating. Can’t wait for more episodes to learn more about organic, healthy wine.

    SO GOOD
Okay, I love this immediately. IMMEDIATELY. It's so accessible and informative. And feminine! I've been listening to another sort of hipster podcast about natural wine and it was so bro-y (even though one of the hosts is a woman) and almost kind of hostile towards its listeners.... that I couldn't listen anymore and it bummed me out, BUT WINE FACE IS THE SOLUTION!!!!
  • Lallllllllliuo
    Helen is amazing
So so excited about this podcast. Everyone needs to listen ASAP.

The Podcast I Never Knew I Needed
I love drinking wine, but now I can actually have a real discussion about it too
  • HolsK89
    SO REAL! <3
I have been waiting for this podcast for weeks and Helen does not disappoint! I know just enough about wine to drink it... but nothing more. I love how real Helen is about wine. I mean lets talk about the big D... the rhea or about certain wines being the McDonalds Chicken Nuggets. Mind Blowing! I mean it makes sense but no one talks about it. Oh and thanks for educating me on my 1 glass hangover cause! I can't wait for a new episode every week!
  • Pmp87
    YESSSSS!!!
    SO excited about this!!!!!!!
