Great pod, even in the early days
Listening to the early episodes 4 years later is a reminder of how progress often is slow but also how big things can be done with consistent effort.

Why hello, I also hate cars. The War On Cars makes me hate them more! Academic, philosophical and funny. They take fun creative risks, too.

Great podcast taking on intractable issues
Don’t be put off by the title: it’s tongue in cheek, based on the vitriolic reactions to those activists who are simply seeking safer ways to bike around their communities, and safe routes to school for our kids. Car culture is ubiquitous. But it also kills, pollutes and isolates us. Almost every episode of this podcast is riveting, with great and informative guests to hopefully open you eyes, make you see our car-covered nation as full of possibility for something better: more choices for ways to get around and between stronger and more life-affirming communities.

Cars are bad but blaming Elon is stupid
Elon has mentioned that suburban sprawl and parking lots are horrible. He knows that cars aren’t the solution. We still need electric vehicles, although they’re not the solution, they are part of the solution. I live in central Florida and I’m completely aware of the destruction that suburban sprawl has brought.

    Tune in Today!
This is the “culture war” that everyone should be paying attention to and honestly dissecting. The hosts are great at choosing a wide variety of content, bringing in fantastic guests and bringing a whole lot of humor to the table.

Once Good, but now Insufferably Woke
I loved this show when it started a few years ago. The three hosts shared my interest in sustainable transportation and walkable, bikeable cities. They continue to exhibit those traits, but they’ve added over-the-top progressive political correctness to the mix, degrading their podcast as a result. I first noticed this trend when they had a guest who describes every complaint he disagrees with as a moral panic. While the guest was right about exaggerated reactions to bicycle advocacy, he was completely delusional in denying that free speech is under attack on college campuses. In the most recent episode, the problem became more prominent when they interviewed a self-described “fat cyclist.” While advocacy for bicycling by people of all sizes is commendable, the show became a ridiculous celebration of trendy phrases such as “intergenerational trauma” and “identify as.” Worst of all, the hosts and their guests repeated the nonsensical claim that there is no relationship between obesity and health. While body size and fitness are not perfectly aligned, denial of any link between the two is denial of medical reality. At this point, I’m checking out. I discontinued my Patreon support a few months ago, and I doubt I’ll listen much anymore. This show had so much promise, but the hosts have hitched their wagon to a woker-than-thou agenda that will only serve to alienate part of their audience.

A fantastically fun and important podcast
It’s great that someone is tackling the insane car-centric culture of America. A great listen - especially on my work commute by bike! 😄

    Happy Walking-Cycling-Public Transport
For me and many others, our daily enjoyment of life is inversely proportional to how dependent we are in a car. The hosts do a great job of educating us all on how getting out of our cars is good for all of us and how our cities can always do better to make it so

    Great podcast—both informative and entertaining

    Cars a garbage
America has to take out the trash. This is the message for our time; best podcast: war on cars.

    Thought provoking and entertaining
I’ve always been a fan of public transportation and cycling, but my jobs location requires me to commute by car. I’d resigned myself to a stressful and expensive morning commute. This podcast truly exposes the depth of American transportation issues, with an informative and entertaining bent. It’s inspired my family to give up our second car and find more sustainable transportation options.

    Excellent guests
I particularly enjoyed recent episodes with Beth Osborne and Cory Doctorow. Osborne enlightened us on Congress’s broken infrastructure funding process: that it’s primarily a mechanism to continue building new highways and create photo-ops for senators while failing on accountability, maintenance, and the climate change. Doctorow eviscerated Uber and the foundation of fantasies on which ride-hailing systems are based. The War on Cars may sound like a suspect premise, but the more I listen to this podcast, the more I agree with their slogan, “cars ruin cities”.

    I’ve found my people
I love your podcast! I’ve been pro-transit since I moved to New York City years ago and your podcast has radicalized me in the best possible way. Incredible discourse, well produced, and always interesting. Keep doing what you’re doing!

    Hooked
Listened to one episode and now I am hooked. So happy to find people who want to have cities that are beyond cars and listen to their stories and what is going on in their city.

At last I’ve found you! It’s a genuine gratitude I feel, that I can have my own angry, explosive, formerly personal attitude explored with sensible, humorous, expansive, intelligent content. Thank you!

In depth transit coverage that I can’t get enough of
I read the paper and listen to the news every morning but coverage of the transit (the top contributor in the US to our emissions) is feebly reported on. Honestly, this podcast is one of my most important sources of news.

Erosion of cities or the attrition of automobiles
More than a half century ago, Jane Jacobs wrote that we had a choice between the erosion of cities or the attrition of automobiles. Today we know she was right, and that not only cities but our lives have been eroded by cars and car ownership. The War on Cars is a renewed call to reclaim our cities, to improve our lives, and to fight back against the industries and politicians that don’t want us to engage in such low-cost activities as walking and cycling. The title is wry but the subject is deadly serious. Long live The War on Cars.

    The Car War on Humanity
Another title for this thought provoking podcast might be “The Car War on Humanity”. Each episode features a mix of skepticism of the status quo, good banter amongst the hosts, and powerful interviews with influential people. If you’re just happy with car life, and drive everywhere and enjoy new cars every few years, you’ll still enjoy this show. Indeed, it is geared to you. It might help you see other ways, that could save you thousands of dollars a year in costs, and maybe even save your life. If you’re a bike riding transit user, listen too. You will feel OK about your lack of a car and learn while being entertained.

    Great info & engaging hosts
I’ve purchased books mentioned on this podcast and researched further into topics they’ve discussed. It’s informative and straight-forward but still with a hope of a future with fewer cars.

    Join the War on Cars!
This podcast helps you see the world in a whole new light. Cars are everywhere and yet we give so little thought to how they influence our politics, culture and environment. The War on Cars shines a light on these things using smart commentary, humor and expert guests in a way no other podcast on the subject does. In fact, there’s really no other podcast that tackles this subject that I can think of. Worth subscribing and supporting.

    Happiness on wheels.
Your episode on the “love of cars” was the best. Understanding our how marketing influenced our thinking. The bicycle in my life helps me see how I am manipulated. Mostly to act against my own self interests. Tom

    Subscribe and join the fight!
Insightful, informative and even funny at times. This is a great podcast about something most people never feel the need to give much thought to: cars and the ways in which they dominate our lives. It will cause you to look at the world around you in a whole new light. Highly recommended!

    Ban Cars
Sarah Goodyear says in one of the episodes something like “the second golden rule is ‘Ban cars’”. To envision abolition for cars is not to simply imagine a world absent cars, but one with a transit infrastructure so good we would never look back to owning a personal car. The War on Cars is envisioning that future. Highly recommended!

    Ironically...
I listen to this podcast in my car. But always a good reminder that even though electric cars are better than fossil gobblers, I rather not be driving at all.

Who are the streets for? Who are cities for? Are they for cars or people? The War on Cars dives into topics you won’t hear discussed anywhere else. A must listen.

    Groundbreaking
This is the podcast we've all been waiting for. It manages to be upbeat and hopeful in the face of so many challenges. Every time an episode comes out, I bump this podcast to the top of my listening queue. It's so refreshing to hear people talking about the truth no one wants to hear: that our car-based lifestyle has permeated our lives to the point that they are unrecognizable. We don't know our neighbors, don't exercise (or drive places to exercise...), don't play outside anymore. The streets aren't safe for our kids or our elderly -- whom cars have relegated to being homebound because it's too dangerous for them to walk. I can't praise this podcast enough.

    For the righteous and compassionate
The War On Cars is a fun, serious, and caring series about hows communities are working to achieve transportation equity. The title is a joke as we are not actually in a war on cars, that is just how car activists try to marginalize the voices of regular people trying to help each other move around, be it by walking, biking, wheelchair, or transit. The production is fun and the conversations are empathetic and timely. The show is great for both people new to transportation advocacy and grizzled livable streets activists still in the game.

    Bike Tribe
As a car-free person, finding The War on Cars was like finding my tribe after traversing the Sahara desert. On every broadcast The War on Cars illustrates the viability of bicycling, and how cars have degraded modern life. I listen to every podcast, and look forward to the next.
