    Loved the “culting” episode!
Loved Stephen Carter’s take on high stakes causes. This feels like such a useful paradigm to ensure we’re interacting with groups and causes in a healthy way. Thank you!

    Thanks
The Sunstone History of Mormonism is excellent. It is enlightening, refreshing, informative to hear truths from other points of view and to deal with white supremacy.

    Unbalanced
This podcast is highly biased as it courteously demonizes and paints a distorted picture of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. For the sake of full disclosure, I am an active, believing member of the church. I have experienced my own faith crisis and come out the other side with my testimony strongly intact. And yes, this is after being honest with all of the facts. In doing this, I have had to look at the criticisms from both sides. The problem with the majority in the apostate community is that they do not evaluate “problems” with the doctrine and history in an objective way. The proclivity is towards an angry & negative group-think mentality that spirals downward. Just know that going in and beware!

    Love this
Although to be fair, December 25 is Santa’s holiday. It is that Jesus fellow who is the interloper and needs to find another day in the calendar. :)

I love less angry John Larsen :)
I have taken a break from Mormon themed podcasts for a few years. I think I only listened to Mormon Expression a few times and it wasn’t my cup of tea but I’m loving John Larsen on the Sunstone podcast. He’s smart, funny and wise and I’m learning just as much from his commentary as I am from his guests. (Maybe even more.) I don’t know know if he’s changed or I have. Maybe it’s both of us. At any rate, thank you for podcasting again!

Just when I had run out of all the archived podcasts -Larsen is back!
Perfect podcast when we are done dealing with the anger of a faith transition and ready to move on without ditching the things we once loved.

I love the opened, diversity of topics, guest and ideas...
Not being familiar with John’s past podcasts and coming from a “prejudice” mental place with Sunstone. As a teenager growing up in the 80’s and attending BYU, after graduating mid-year in California, I had always heard to stay away from Sunstone because it was only a place for “anti-Mormons.” It was so pervasive, that it took me until 2016 to attended the annual conference and I was slightly nervous and felt a bit “sneaky.” Of course all of the negativity, rumors and “anti” was misguided. Like with all things that include not exclude there will be a range of ideas, thoughts and ideologies. So far, this is just that... the show is a splattering of topics, some have never occures to me existed. For some, that will be to uncomfortable, for others like me, it’s adventurous and exciting as I explore more deeply Mormonism. With that said, i recommend listening at at least 10 mins of every show, the title may not resonate but it might just hit a chord in you that could become a symphony. With that said, I’ll end with now “reduced” in voice and optics, for being his non-linear and wider in his inclusiveness, Apostle Dieter Uchtdorf: “Your background or upbringing might seem different from what you perceive in many Latter-day Saints, but that could be a blessing. Brothers and sisters, dear friends, we need your unique talents and perspectives. The diversity of persons and peoples all around the globe is a strength of this Church.” As the church has painfully become aware, I use pain as we are losing so many. That is sad. And if Christ would leave the whole 90 and 9 (99) to seek after the one (1). How can anyone profess Christianity and think any different but sadness and an sense of overwhelming love for each soul, regardless of the who, what and why’s. It is because God loved first without us doing a thing... is what proves his unconditional love.

I’m not sure what he’s getting at?
This felt very disjointed and hard to follow. I couldn’t even finish it. I get the context of what he is saying, embrace your heritage and your rich tapestry. Ok, but then what? He makes it sound like he can fix all the issues, but I’m super confused as to what exactly he is suggesting we do? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Kind of a let down after all the hype.

    Great but...

I gave it an honest try.
The return of John. We've heard all this before, John leaves podcasting... AGAIN. Comes back AGAIN... But this time he truly shows no growth, or evoultion in his journey whatsoever. It's like he is the same exact guy of 5-10 years ago. It's a shame really. Oh well. I suppose it's just a matter of time before he alientates those around him and rage quits again.

I really like hearing John again. I was going through the worst period of my life with awful depression and had absolutely nothing going for me and those Mormon Expression podcasts were just about the only thing that made me laugh and they made me laugh a lot!

Excited to see how this develops
Thrilled to have John Larsen back and discussing new developments in Mormonism! He's a clear-eyed commentator who's always been great at giving everyone a fair shake without pandering or platitudes. The podcast and Sunstone in general is a bit dated; I know they said in their teaser episode that Sunstone is for everyone, but there's still kind of a "your parents at a rock concert" vibe. Would love to hear from some younger, millennial voices as well going forward. Looking forward to see where this project is headed!

I love Larsen’s analytical approach to Mormonism
When Larsen was with Mormon Expression it was there to look back at our religion and laugh at some of its ridiculous points. For many of us this laughter was healing. In the Sunstone podcast, John takes a more thoughtful tone at reflecting on different aspects of the LDS church. I loved Mormon Expression and so far I’m loving the Sunstone podcast. I definitely plan on donating to help make sure it continues.

    John is back!
So happy to have John back. I found him when I was searching, he was leaving. His mind picked apart so many things for my newly religious leaving mind to think about. I can’t wait what he has to say now.
