Intimate like radio, with a living library all wrapped up into one.
There are few broadcasts where preoccupation with image and dynamic sets take a back seat to adult conversations. Errol Louis leads fascinating conversations, not only because he aims at the root of NY, but because he IS, NY. He knows the history, the characters and their stories. The narrative makes itself. You wanna really (really) know what’s going on in NYC, the world? Don’t just watch the news, hear what the people shaping that news are sharing with Errol Louis.

    One-Sided Reporting
I just listened to Errol’s interview with Peter Beinart. A good reporter doesn’t let his own personal views get in the way of accurate coverage. Beinart’s view of the Israel Hamas War is very most certainly one-sided. But, Errol has once again failed to interview a second pundit with a contrasting point of view. He openly supported Beinart’s claims instead. This leaves the listener with only one side of the story. Errol did the same thing when he interviewed Henry Garrido of DC37 about New York City’s efforts to deny retirees from having the Traditional Medicare benefits they earned and were promised. Henry wants to use money going to retirees to replenish the union’s depleted slush funds instead. That’s money currently beyond the scope of auditors that was used for other than its stated purposes already. Henry pushed one lie after another over the air waves, and there was no one there to challenge what he said about how retirees wouldn’t be hurt by this. Henry is wrong. The courts have consistently agreed with the retirees. Eleven different judgements against the City have each upheld the retirees’ rights to their promised medical benefits. Why is this news not aired repeatedly on Errol’s shows?

    Cuomo series a must listen
A thoughtful and probing look at a giant of New York. The theme: the difference between politics and governing. For the first time I felt I heard Mario Cuomo, and thanks to the brilliant Errol Lewis, we understand why he was ultimately never interested in national politics. He did what he loved and cared about, making New York the best place in the world. Thank you for this holiday gift.

    Errol is a fantastic interviewer
He presses people in an extremely fair way, but he presses. He creates full preambles to his questions for exceptional context, which makes it difficult for his subjects to dodge.

This guy doesn’t understand how Democracy works
This guy apparently doesn’t think New York voters are capable of making their own choices. Sorry, I can’t support and waste my time listening to a clown who doesn’t seem to understand how democracy works. Hard pass.

    Loved the Dickens deep dive
Very interesting history of early 1990 nyc politics. I’d love to hear more pieces like that over different moments in the cities history. The show is great overall as well.

    My Louis Trip
This is my first podcast journey and I’m glad I did it with someone I’ve learned to highly regard. We didn’t start off as friends when he wrote about me in 1999 when I won a political party seat in Harlem, but longevity has its place. Interestingly enough, I got to work with Stewart-Cousins in Yonkers in the mid1990s when I served as the President/CEO of the REAPS Community Land Trust and she served at Yonkers City Hall.

    Fantastic Start
Errol Louis is the top journalist for NY, and he is off to a good start with the Haberman podcast interview. He seemed to think that the pod was too long, but I though it was too short! Also, I really want to hear from more local reporters who do not get the shine that a Haberman enjoys. For example, who is the top NYPD beat reporter? Or the top person on the NY prison system? Let’s hear from them.
