    Fascinating new favorite
Soothing and stimulating at the same time this podcast is so refreshing. I just started piano lessons at 40 and learning about the lives of famous classical composers I’m learning to play feels so approachable. Jade Simmons has an expert but inviting way of telling these stories. I love it!

Please sir, may I have some more?
I have been waiting a long time for more Jade Simmons! There is no other podcast like this and no other host like her. I still can’t really figure out what kind of trick she played with time to allow her to pack so much beauty and insight into each episode and how to narrate them in a way that was so mesmerizing.—please, listen to it and tell people about this treasure. What a marvelous show!

A secret weapon of the Cold War...
Was riveting, inspiring, and produced much reflection. Black composers of all tiers of performance from streets and churches to opera houses are not sufficiently honored for the dynamic musicality of America, which they most assuredly created and / or greatly influenced. I loved hearing the history of how it came to be staged, and knowing Gershwin actually researched the sound to make it authentic. I loved this show, which I just happened to be among the many choices of my Your Classical on Black History sent via email. While I am not synced to the modern podcast audience nor am I African American, I need programming like this to enlarge my view, and the views of others, to all the beauty and diversity in our world. Thank you. Now, off to hear your other podcasts....

Thank you for this loving homage to classical music! This sweet and interesting podcast illuminates the humanity and universal passions of classical music, and gives loving treatment to composers, their compositions, and the historical and personal events that spawned them. As per Schiller via “Beethoven’s Ninth,” “Seid umschlungen, Millionen! Diesen Kuß der ganzen Welt! (Be embraced, Millions! This kiss for the whole world!)”. Edifying Inspiring, and illuminating!

Listened to this whole series in one day
Every episode I learned the history behind all my favorite classical music pieces. My favorite episode was about Clara Schumann and Tchaikovsky. This definitely helps me understand how to interpret their music and contributions more. Composers that I would love to hear more about: Schubert, Brahms, Chopin, Rachmaninoff... please continue this podcast!

This is the classical music podcast that the world needs.
Having gone through years of typical music history classes in undergrad, this is how western music history should be taught. I was learning new things the whole time I was listening! So poignently written, the first episode brought me to tears. It was the only time I have ever heard a teacher say that a woman was not just a footnote in the history books, but one of the great composers. Finally! This podcast pulls back the veneer of the whitewashed male dominated western cannon and brings out the real stories of classical music. As a music teacher, I’m going to be incorporating this into all of my classes whenever possible. These are the classical history lessons we need right now. Aa a violist, my favorite composer is Rebecca Clark. It would be amazing if you could find time to make an episode of her! Thank you so much!

Thank you for bringing life to music history!
As a professional orchestral bassoonist, chamber musician and music educator, your work here brings so many of these historical giants in the field to such a new and vivid life. I’d love to hear a podcast intertwining Stravinsky, Diaghilev and Nijinsky or on anything from the musical world of late 19th century-pre WW1 Paris or even on Kurt Weill/Lotte Lenya Berlin between the wars. Bravo and I look forward to more podcasts!
  • treblegirl2003
    Fabulous!
As a music educator, I thoroughly enjoyed this series. A non-music colleague told me about it, and I passed it on to another musician friend. All different kinds of people have found value in your work. Thank you!

    Fascinating and uplifting
I love this show! So fun to learn about composers - and Jade tells theirs stories in such an engaging way. It’s inspiring to learn of all the challenges they faced - war, fascism, homophobia, and more - and how they rose above. I’m very grateful for this series during this time of panic and isolation- thank you for making Decomposed!
