Life is Short with Justin Long

by Wondery

Is it just me or is time flying by? How do we make the most out of our short time here on Earth? That’s what we’re here to find out. I’m Justin Long and I’ve been an actor for most of my life, so I’m used to getting inside the heads of the characters I play. But now that I’m getting older (I’m 41 now, yikes), I want to peek inside the heads of real people to learn how they find meaning in life. I’m also very curious what their favorite snack food is, and what emoji they use most often — ya know, the REALLY important stuff. Every episode I’ll get personal with all kinds of people, from actors to musicians to deep thinkers who fascinate me. My brother Christian is on hand each episode to keep me honest, and occasionally remind me about some of the embarrassing things I’ve done over the years. Join us, or if you have more important things to do, that’s okay too — life is short!

    Too long!
Podcasts are too long, please make them shorter

    One of the Lucky Ones
Was gonna 5 star and bounce, but I saw some bad reviews so. This and Armchair are my go-tos. Josh is a high quality artist and when interacting with other high quality artists it’s a bit of magic. He understands the process and the business well enough to ask great questions and have a fluid conversation.

    Love Justin and this podcast
This podcast has really gotten me through the pandemic! Justin has interesting guests (Dr Jane Goodall!) and he doesn’t ask the same boring questions that always get asked in other interviews. He’s genuine and corny and comes across as someone the listener would want to have as a friend. I love the dynamic between him and his brother, and anytime Jerry O’Connell calls in is just a bonus. Life is indeed short, but this podcast is definitely worth your time.

    If you like monotone...
If Sal Vulcano wasn’t on this podcast I would have never heard it. So monotone, and SO boring who is listening to this after one episode....
  • Megan Phoenix
He seems like a nice guy, but he’s not bright, funny, clever enough to carry a good show.
  • Kay Birdie
Is it just me or is he a twerp?
Justin seems to let his nerves get the best of him on the regular and always lets the interviews fall flat with a “oh cool!” “Huh crazy” type comments:/ he doesn’t really seem to be invested in who he invites on and the podcast only works when the guests are eccentric people that carry the episode themselves. Only reason I gave 2 stars instead of one was because for some reason the female guests are always so much more interesting and Justin does a better job interviewing them.... usually. Also I saved my insult for last but does anyone else think he has the whole “out of touch entitled actor thing” doing on? Drives me nuts

    Could be so much better
I’ve been a listener since the first episode. Justin needs to learn to not interrupt his guests. His impressions are HORRIBLE. But he and his brother have a charming way about them and I love how much family means to them. This could be a great podcast. FYI During the Rachel Ray episode 1) Christian it’s E.V.O.O. Not evou as you pronounced it. 2) you should have told Rachel to stop using the word literally. She must’ve said it 30-40 times.

The first time I ever had crab we caught them with my Aunt at Myrtle Beach. My thoughts exactly. I feel like as a white person I’m not allowed to identify as indigenous. A few years ago I found a drawing done by an Englishman of an American native of North Carolina that looked just like me and heard there were actually white tribes in the Northern Midwest. I think Iran Glass did an episode on them. I’ll check out this horror stuff you’re doing but wonder what you’d look like with long braided hair hunting wild hogs deer or duck in a reality show. If you do research, wild boar and deer are actually threatening farmlands across the country. I think you’d bring some real grace to screen with this if you took it seriously. Make your own moccasins. Approach yourself with reverence.

What is the cost of privacy?
Dear, Hello! Worth its weight in broadcasts, this podcast. Thank you, radio gods, for some truly epic times. Getting down to the nitty and gritty of it all, didn’t turn away. Does everything except ignore or miss, no “sinning” from you. Praises and praises, as you like it. Sincerely, Jogger Chris

I think that clown emoji is making a comeback 🤡
Nothing wrong with enjoying a funny clown every now and then. Rachel Ray is super humble! That’s the long and short of it.
  • BrittKay3
Rachel Ray was super annoying. Was hating her at the end, she’s so full of herself and loves to brag. Love Justin and his brother though 💛 great podcast
  • suefern
Love the podcast but Rachel Ray not so much!
Omg, I’m 5 minutes in.... does Rachel Ray ever shut up???? Geez, Louise I’m exhausted listening to her ramble on from one story to the next! Worst. Guest. Ever.

    I tried
I hear your lively voices and appreciate them. The whole bathroom stinking discussion on the one I heard really turned me off. What is it with people now having to discuss and cover all of these areas of life as nauseum- it's so bad- and doesn't make me laugh ever. I'm sure my 17 yr old grandson would not agree w me but he would never listen to a podcast where you are interviewing Amanda Knox, for example. So sorry guys- I can't accept this new age let it all hang out without disgust and disappointment. I really wanted to listen. I guess I'm too old for your sensibilities
  • Amsdiva817
    Less verbal fillers
You gotta let people speak. You react so so much that it interrupts the conversation and is annoying to the listener. Let them speak and finish. Then you can dote.
  • Julia Rehcheck
    So wonderful!
Justin is such a great interviewer and always asks the questions I want to hear about. His guests come from so many backgrounds that it’s a joy to see who I get to learn about each week. Fantastic show!
  • Agejo
    So much fun
Just listened to Sal Vulcano. what a tremendously nice guy. Have to watch his show. Never saw it. Love this podcast.
  • CindyB72
    Love the show!
This is such a fun show! Christian and his brother have so much fun together and they include the listener in their inside jokes and stories. The interviews are insightful, light and fresh. You feel like you’re part of a conversation with old friends. 😉🤣

    Good Guests, Mediocre Interview Skills
I want to like this podcast because Justin Long seems so nice, but I found myself repeatedly skipping it when new episodes came up. I think it boils down to interview skills leaving something to be desired. Often a guest would start to make a point I was really interested in, and then they’d get interrupted and never make it back to that train of thought. Oh well.
  • justin rules
    Love it
I have been hearing this podcast for some time now and I find it so entertaining.. even the guest that I’ve never heard of, Justin has good way to interview them.. I’m enjoying it for sure! Recommend
  • michael_weho
    Interview with Dr Jane Goodall
An outstanding and illuminating interview with “Jane”. She’s 86 and sharp as a tack. Justin did a fabulous job of interviewing. Also, Dr Goodall’s sounds of chimps is both enlightening and hysterical.
  • MamaHollz
Louie and you need a road trip series in which you drive around and share kindness and love with the world. I could have listened to you two for hours more. Beautiful grace and remembrance of your loved ones.

    Just saw your Intel ad
Just saw your Intel ad. I just unsubscribe Dom your podcast. Just plain offensive..
  • Scragglewart
Re Amanda Knox episode: I believe Amanda is trying to make a point about people believing what they want to believe without having a deep understanding of the facts. People’s ideas about events can be led by click bait media and authorities with an agenda other than the truth. And then the host turns around and blurts out opinion as fact based on the same kind of thing. The other annoying thing is that the intro session is way too long.
  • Rhpos
    Anthony Mackie
What a sexist and misogynistic guest. The way he talks about girls and women makes feel bad for his wife and mother and sisters. Justin - Maybe call out guests when they very clearly express this sort gross mindset. Ugh.
  • Maximclaire
    Louie Anderson
I really enjoyed your interview with Louie Anderson. I especially liked your references to “signs and reminders ” from loved ones who have passed. I also liked the rapport that you both had during the interview; I could have listened to you for even longer.
  • SeriouslySnapeAlwaus
    Enjoyable pod 🤩 buuutttt....
My only request would be to see a balance in the gender of guests. I know it’s probably about who Justin knows, has worked with, likes, and wants to talk to—but it would be great to hear him speak with a comedian like Nicole Byer, actress Kat Denning, or Sarah Chalke. Heck, I’d go with more of the scrubs cast even, or Zoey Deschanel... just to see more variety than white male comedian/actor. Even some of the Big Bang Theory cast would be cool 🙌🏻. I know booking people might be hard but just my two cents. Also, another interview with Jamila Jamil would be fun. One other person, Jonathan Van Ness from Queer Eye would be interesting too.
  • Tims chick
Just found your podcast and has become a favorite I keep looking for new guests. One of the things I really like is the post interview discussions on talking about how you felt.
  • Dan Connet
    Testosterone regiment.
I love the podcast! Thank you for the excellent content. I think Anthony injects testosterone in himself and his wife?! Just a guess. Thanks again boys!

    I love the intro song!!!
  • Big Mo Dizzel
    Great pod cast 👍🏽
Great podcast, terrible intro song..... 😆🤷‍♂️💯 and you’re ads sound faker then a knock off high end purse 🤦‍♂️ but I’ll just skip and obviously never take you’re word on a product....

It wasn’t Richard Dean Anderson that played Dylan’s dad it was Josh Taylor 😉 Love the show!

    Room for improvement
Justin Long is very likable. He has good guests and is endearing! But it stresses me out when he keeps guests past the agreed time. I also don’t like most of the the questions he asks at the end... except the emoji question. That one is unique!
  • Calvin 20
Except for the hosts, it’s a good show
Poorly prepared hosts ( my kids knew Jeff Corwin had snake tattoos!!) who ask inane, shallow questions & interrupted the guest repeatedly & made a bigger deal about his accent than his life’s work. .. but I really enjoyed hearing Jeff Corwin & his commitment to bringing about changes for conservation.

    One of My Faves
I love the brotherly banter and Justin is an incredible interviewer and conversationalist. So many interesting guests and he connects so easily with all of them. He certainly has a few quirks and I’m surprised by all the negative comments on here - I find it all endearing and enjoy the energy you bring to everyone and their topics (and letters!). Keep doing what you do and much love to you all and your gran ❤️
  • 4ESH!
And only good. I’ve skipped through a few episodes but there’s one thing I dislike that missed the 5 and that’s the rushing through interviews. I’m locked in on a line of questioning and all of the sudden boom, switch before the story or answer is completed. As a non anxious person (yes hello I know I’m a rarity in 2021), this pisses me off. I don’t move that fast. Shut up and let people talk. This review went south quickly and I apologized if you read this Justin.

    Katie Couric 🤮
Love the podcast. It allows guests to show who they really are... Katie Couric and David Cross tie for the biggest d0uchebags. What pompous fukkks. Love you Justin and Christian! So happy to have gotten to hear Grandma Jodie!!!! Rest in power 💪 💔
  • Listen to this podcast now!
    One of my favorite podcasts
I’ve been a fan of Justin’s acting since back in the “Ed” days. I love how genuinely interested he is I’m each and every guest. This podcast makes my week a little brighter when I listen to it. Thank you Justin and Christian!

    Miss Grandma Jodie
So sorry about grandma Jodie. Loved her, and love you guys. Life is short and so glad you had her in your life. She made wonderful grandchildren. Love
  • LCMR35
    Love it!
This became one of the two main podcasts I listened to during quarantine, brought to me by Armchair Expert. My favorite parts are listening to Justin and Christian banter (you don’t both have to agree Christian and Justin are awesome)- but the guests are great too. Justin just comes off as the sweetest and there is definitely a different vibe to this podcast. Easy and comforting to listen to with some laughs along the way.
  • lizislistening
    Keep listening for the guests
Good guests, but Justin isn't a great interviewer. He speaks over the interviewees and can't wait to add in his own interpretation, rather than just listening to thoughts develop. Additionally, his banter with his brother is not actually charming or even interesting. They both seem like the kind of white guys who think they're more intellectual, sensitive, and hip than they actually are.
  • ChelseaFCNC
    Interviews Solid
Most interviews are good if you like the guest, but Justin and his brother can drag on at the beginning. I fast forward 8 minutes every episode.
  • justbe05
Love the show- just one thing
I have literally listened to every episode since day one and you guys only get stronger. Your chemistry is great and I love the very end where we hear “a day in the life” recording with your family. It is so fun to recognize voices and feel like a part of it all, not in a weird stalker way. My one thing is when you both do that “weird” thing when each of you agrees on something. To be honest, you both get a weird tone and speak so fast it is hard to understand and annoying. I may be a “party of one” with this comment and it certainly does not stop me from listening. I just know it will end soon and the rest will be amazing. Thank you for making me laugh out loud on may way to and from work and for always looking forward to the next one. You should develop some “merch” as well. It would be a great way to support the show.

    Katie Couric Interview
You guys are awesome! I just finished listening to your Katie Couric interview and am now listening to your post-interview reflection. I love how “normal” and “human” you are! There were so many times that you have reflected on the exact same thoughts I had while listening to the interview. You reflect on Justin’s nervousness that picks up especially when Katie asks him a question. 😂 I seriously was so nervous when she asked you about your thoughts on Michael J. Fox’s book. 😳 But you did great!!! I felt like your long-winded answer helped affirm your stance and admiration!! I was actually relieved and thought you did great! 👍🏻💕
  • 3boyspml
    Love the podcast but...
Katie Couric🤮🤮🤮 -I hope you don’t have her or anyone like her on again. I really love this podcast but if the guests will be like her I will have to stop listening.
  • Dfales
    Love Justin and Christian! 😎
Great podcast. Change the intro music please 😉And stop the lightening round questions. Awkward....And ANNA Faris. Please do not let her ruin/take over another episode. Too weird. And not in that good Amy Sedaris way. Very off-putting. Katie Couric does not deserve your gushing. She is soooo out of touch and arrogant.
  • Meg.Gem.
Giving a five star review bc (well I love the pod) but I fell asleep listening to the recent episode talking about Boy Scouts and had a dream about zip lining with Justin and Christian in the white mountains (spoiler alert, Justin and I fell in love). So thanks for the great pod and creeping into my dreams and making them lovely and full of adventure 😂😂
  • abluebook
More eps w just Justin and Christian!
Found this podcast from WWHL while in quarantine and I love it! But tbh I love when Justin and Christian talk amongst each other and when Justin talks about when he was on various shows and movies! Less guests and more J&C! You go Genzlinger! 😃
  • Lorenz12
    Great / interesting guests!
One critique: Be aware of talking over your guests with the conversational “uh huh(s)”, “yeah(s)”, “how interesting(s)”, etc. It cuts the guest off and becomes distracting for the listener. I just listened to the “Michelle Wolf” episode and found it hard to hear or focus on her sometimes. Otherwise fun and entertaining!
