micah2300Another Kind of Mind- the best Beatles podcast!I’m so glad AKOM is back. Love the show- best show about the Beatles I’ve ever heard. However in your latest series “Tune In: you constantly refer to book. And when you say “Tune in…..” during the episodes, it’s the exact words and cadence you use when signing off on AKOM. So throughout the episode as I’m listening, and after a pause, whenever I hear Phoebe say the words “tune in”, it constantly makes me think the episode is over!! I don’t like it, because I never want the episode to end. Thanks AKOM for all your hard work. Missed you- glad you are back✌️❤️

sevenwonders55Very Interesting!Admittedly, after listening to 15 minutes of this I left a very negative review. I decided to give it a second chance and have decided I was incredibly wrong. As a younger female Beatles fan I often feel almost victimized by the “baby boomer” crew at concerts, events etc (almost to the point of verbal abuse because we stand up and dance… not kidding). We were kicked out of a Ringo Starr concert in VEGAS for standing up and dancing and blocking the people’s view behind us - lol. How fun! I’m always looking for mindsets that are younger and more modern. It is surprising how little discussion of the Beatles there is out there that doesn’t come from middle aged men over 60. And honestly, even though I’m probably one of the biggest Beatles fan out there (I mean, I’ve been to Liverpool 12 times), I am typically ignored or blown off as not having any real knowledge of the group. The typical “you weren’t there, you couldn’t understand response.” This podcast is so refreshing because I feel like they talk about the Beatles the way I do with my friends. It’s funny and edgy. I only wish I would have thought of it! :)

Explorergirl67Great Podcast! If you’re looking for a Beatles podcast which rehashes all of the old tropes, this isn’t for you. Phoebe and Daphne look at the Beatles, and John and Paul in particular, with a fresh perspective, focusing on the relationships in the band and band dynamics. I also love that they look at the Beatles as real people, and are willing to call them out for not-so-good stuff they’ve done, along with praising them when they deserve it. Some people think the podcast is anti-John, but I haven’t found that at all. Phoebe and Daphne just aren’t willing to perpetuate the “Paul is inferior to John” stance that so many people in Beatles world have taken for granted, and repeated without ever examining it.

Chris K SagerDifficult to listen toLot of anger in this podcast, lot of tearing down every single person that has written about the Beatles, a lot of condescension, a lot of pro-Paul, anti - John bias. Very difficult listen. I thought the Beatles were supposed to be fun?

Okie 60’s GirlLove your podcast!Hi, this isn’t as much a review (but I love your podcast!) as it is to ask if you’ve read The Beatles 1963 A Year In The Life by Dafyyd Rees? It’s a day by day review of the whole year with interviews galore by everyday people who entered the Beatles orbit. My point is though that the author doesn’t seem to have a John bias and even says several times that Paul seems to be the leader.

EYEBALL HATREDWondrousI am so very much in debt to this remarkable podcast. Have you heard the word is love? Thank you for understanding the heart of the Beatles. May the joy go on and on.

therealtamishowFinally, the sacred cow is being examined.Time for a review update. I have obsessed about the foundation for much of Lewisohn's "facts" for quite awhile, and finally began listening to every interview I could find of him, and quickly became truly shocked at how fast and loose his stories were becoming. That the ground "Tune In" stands on is so shaky was bad enough, but between the clear conflict of interest issues and his stories and "facts" stated in interviews sometimes growing to near-delusional proportions, it was driving me mad... but there was no outlet I could find. He's treated with unquestioning reverence. Until now. This series on Tune In is so, so overdue. I know how scary it must be to take on the most powerful voice in Beatles' fandom, but unlike Lewisohn, the ladies are on solid ground. 🫡

Unhappy & FrustratedRefreshingReally enjoyed a fresh approach to their story. Focusing on the dynamic between the two main songwriters versus the usual trivia and anecdotes we’ve heard a zillion times was refreshing. Once the breakup arc they’ve been covering is over, I wonder where the podcast will go? Looking forward to the ‘’Jean Jacket Tears’’ when they reach a wider audience...

MudgeMusicMy favorite Beatles Pod!I’ve loved every series you’ve made and I hope you never stop! I’m excited for the new series examining “Tune In.” I loved the book when I read it, but I did notice some bias towards John and a lack of focus on George and Ringo. Now that I hear you mention it, I did pick up on his different way of writing about Paul but I think I just disregarded a lot of it, I “tuned out” that bit.
-
OverZooshMy favorite podcast.Love all the research done. The humor we Beatles lovers like our humor. Great show. Very informative.

NaomiCampellsAssistantPotentialThis podcast has some great insights and potential to be so much more dynamic but unfortunately after a few episodes it begins to feel tortuously redundant. AKOM is in what I call the “In defense of Paul” genre. I think the problem with this genre is that they focus way too hard with speaking to the lowest common denominator of Beatles fandom—- which isn’t even their listener. We now understand how bias Beatles history has been against Paul and how many pro-Lennon falsehoods exist. The majority of their listeners are in agreement with them, so why constantly focus on the silly assumptions of ignorant Lennonistas? To defend Paul so consistently they also white-wash Paul and gloss over the complexities of his character, making him boring and one dime spinal, while also completely ignoring George and Ringo’s takes. It makes for a stale story and sometimes feels childish when Phoebe becomes so emotional, yelling into the mic to defend Paul’s honor— a billionaire/near billionaire who is beloved and still sells out stadiums. Babe, he’s doing pretty well, he’ll be okay. AKOM perpetually circle the drain of the break up, rehashing their previous points with no new insights. The format of bold dominant host with the yes-woman sidekick is another part of what makes this podcast feel redundant— like two people locked in a basement recycling their own air. The fresh energy this podcast needs is some new expansive topics, some debate/disagreement, and maybe some guests to bring new perspectives. My fav eps from last season had guests, like May Pang! They did so well in an interview discussion style than they do in their usual redundant rant style cohost chat.
-
Tanya ReaderThe VanguardAKOM is spearheading the long-overdue overhaul of 5 decades of Beatles’ opinion. “Yawn” Wenner and his like (what AKOM call “the Jean Jackets”) have had their day, and a much more nuanced and balanced appraisal of the group’s history is starting to take root. It’s thanks in no small part to the writers here.
-
extremely_unique_nicknameMusic to my earsAKOM has quickly become one of my favorite podcasts, Beatles-related or otherwise! Phoebe and Daphne (and co) have awesome chemistry, and frequently make me lol. Like, actually laugh out loud. Their depth of knowledge is super impressive, with excellent sourcing practices, and they cover topics that are actually fun and interesting to ponder — no boring gear-head talk, no rhapsodizing about chart positions or album personnel. They offer insightful and nuanced takes on old Beatles narratives that were in desperate need of reexamination, and offer emotionally intelligent interpretations based on facts and evidence. Can’t get enough!

DinseaKRefreshing (yet factually based) take on the BeatlesI really love AKOM and appreciate the fresh take on the Beatles’ mythology and dispelling some of the tired tropes about them (especially Paul) that have been repeated mindlessly for decades. The show is well researched to support their ideas, views and theories, some that seem so obvious now. They’re funny and lighthearted while being very respectful. I really enjoy this podcast and especially love having women speaking on the subject.
-
ATLoloRefreshing and well researched! This truly is a gem of a podcast. After decades of people repeating the same Beatles tropes, this podcast takes a deep dive into new topics and revisits old topics from a new perspective. The show is exceptionally well researched, yet it doesn’t feel formal at all - the hosts manage to feel like old friends! 5/5 stars!
-
dpt1213One of the bestI love this podcast. The Beatles stopped revording in 1969 but the story is alive and keeps evolvimg with every new generation. Thanks to fans like you.

Llanny22Absolutely Amazing!I’m obsessed with this podcast! I’ve been a Beatles fan for a very very long time and as many of you can probably relate to, it’s been a long and interesting journey. The Beatles are unique in so many ways; their history and relationship between the boys, (I still call them the boys 🥰) captivates you like no other band. I love listening to this podcast because you guys have touched on many interesting topics that many shy away from and have definitely changed my views on certain things that I held on for so many years! Thank you for sharing the Beatles story like no other! ❤️

Mike in Jeff ParkIntelligent, Brutal, Hilarious Beatles ScholarshipLadies, you’re a one trick pony. Very propaul, very anti john psycho babble. Your obsession with their queer identities, which neither of them ever embraced, exposes you as lurid speculative fictionalists. IM still waiting for the George/Maureen Ckeeves interview Remember that?

littlelambdragonflyBest Beatles PodcastI had a moment about 3 years ago when I was reading a Beatles book when I read some anecdote, and while the author did not make this leap, I had a moment of realization: John LOVED Paul. He LOVED him. They LOVED each other. Romantically? Sure, how could it not be? But also just this wildly deep friendship. And things that had been very mysterious to me before (what happened in India?) were no longer quite as mysterious. And no one wanted to talk about it, haha! My poor friends. Anyway, I love AKOM because they recognize this in their relationship too and they recognize how meaningful it is. It’s beautiful and tragic. I appreciate the research they bring into understanding it as well. Other Beatles scholars could NEVER. They are maybe the only genuinely cool people doing a Beatles podcast. Also honestly I didn’t love Paul that much, was very turned off by Phoebe’s intense Paul Apologia at first, but she converted me and now I am also a Paul Apologist. Very grateful for that actually! It’s sad to think about the years I lived without Pipes of Peace Lolol. Thanks y’all!

Elly JaybirdnahThe hosts constantly say things like "If [whoever] had wanted to do [thing], they could have just said/done [xyz], but they didn't, so obviously I am right about their motivation being [other thing]!" Such a bizarrely terrible technique of psychological analysis, not based in any kind of human understanding that I recognize. More and more they seem to spend longer amounts of time basically writing their own fan fiction on-air and it's weird. I have nothing against fan fiction but this is billed as research based historical analysis and it just... isn't. They constantly accuse everyone else of picking and choosing what to focus on and distorting the narrative to suit what they already believe, while constistently refusing to see or acknowledge that that's exactly what they're doing as well. And not for nothing, but their ideas aren't even that original. If you've been in any kind of online beatles community with women in it, you've heard most of the points they make, and better articulated too. I don't know. They do have some interesting and decent points, but the hosts get so exaggeratedly outraged, particularly when John does or says something mean about Paul, that the good points get lost in a sea of whining about things that a dead guy did fifty years ago. Being passionate is fine, obviously, but this podcast needs to have a little perspective when it comes to things like getting so so so mad that John once said Paul was trying to write his Bridge Over Troubled Water when he wrote Let It Be. It was forty years ago, guys, you can let it go a little bit.

ArtloverncWonderful!Only partway through the first episode and blown away. Yes! Probably one of the smartest and most unique Beatles podcasts. Also- a women-run show!? Brilliant. Thank you for this! I LOVE this show.
-
WLedgerHilarious and WiseThis podcast makes me laugh out loud. It’s so refreshing to hear these women giving their honest, empathic, well-researched takes on the Beatles. Kudos!!!
-
Prudence64Interesting perspectiveI love exploring the Lennon McCartney dynamic and this podcast definitely pulls you in. Some great insights.
-
tem4w5Great conversation , fresh perspectivesI’m a longtime Beatles fan drawn back in by Get Back and I’m so glad I found this podcast! It’s entertaining, really well-researched and always provokes me to look at the Beatles story and music in intriguing new ways — ways that get beyond the clichés and often ring true. But even when I might disagree, it’s always a fascinating, fun listen!
-
Texas Beatles FanWell done be girls!Your enthusiasm in studying the John and Paul relationship is infectious! Keep it coming, cause I can’t get enough!! Bravo, bravo, bravo!!!!

badbadbad apppppExcellent podcastDeeply researched, engaging and enlightening podcast. One of the best podcasts never mind Beatles related ones.
-
Usvaldo deLeonFantastic Podcast with Great IdeasAnother Kind of Mind does an amazing job at tackling tough subjects concerning the Beatles and discussing them cogently with empathy and humor. They look at underlying behaviors and causes to discern what is happening behind the masks the band showed to the public. Fascinating

YupsicleFresh perspectives - an A+ Beatles showLots of Beatles podcasts out there, but few will make you rethink your preconceptions more than AKOM
-
Woke up, got out of bedLove this show!Really enjoying listening to your podcast with the deep dive on the Lennon/McCartney relationship, was always fascinated by these two. Keep up the good work!
-
Cine-maticGot To Get Them Into Your LifeAKOM is far and away one of the best Beatles podcasts out there. Phoebe and Daphne are insightful, deep, and freakin’ hilarious. They always have the kind of well researched and emotionally intelligent perspective on the endlessly fascinating phenomenon that is The Beatles, that makes diving deeper into their story fresh and compelling and fun, like solving a mystery together with a couple of your coolest friends. Highly recommend!

RJH928Giggly Girls PodcastOmg….do u drink during ur podcast or do u seriously giggle that much sober??? I tried to listen to part 2 of breakup episode and had to turn it off. Poor analysis and constant laughing was annoying.
-
francisreaderFantastic!Insightful, funny and passionate podcast. I've been completely won over by their arguments re the Lennon/McCartney relationship in the 2nd half of the 60s. Essential listening for Beatles fans.
-
SiennalilyRob SheffieldI love In My Life. Rob Sheffield-not so much. So sad to hear that he’s the official Beatles expert at Rolling Stone.
-
Mezz MesirowIt’s about timePhoebe and Daphne and co are brilliant ladies who meticulously and sympathetically explore the Beatles’ interpersonal dynamics. They are also fearless in their determination to set the record straight, especially when it comes to exposing some unpleasant truths about John Lennon and, even more so, his cult-like army of male acolytes. Amazing that it’s only taken 50 years to achieve a candid and balanced narrative. It demonstrates to me that we’ve been sorely lacking in women’s voices when it comes to Rock criticism. I love this podcast and eagerly await each new episode.

Danny_JosephThe Name is accurateThe best thing I can say about this podcast is that the name is accurate. The other kind of mind is a condescending, hyper-feminist “woke” approach to interpreting the Beatles’ story. I didn’t think it was possible to take the joy out of Beatles music. These hosts manage to do it. The main focus of these discussions is to re- interpret history and apply their own 21st century worldview to past events. They do this by attacking all previous Beatles books- dismissively referring to authors as “fan-boys” and “jean jackets” (whatever that means). This they accomplish by setting up straw-man arguments, without citing specific sources- usually signaled by the term “tropes.” The episodes I listened to sound like two amateur therapists analyzing a client- in this case, 4 clients- from 50 years later, and without the client being there. They rarely even mention song, or the joy and fun the Beatles created. Again , I did not think it was possible to make the Beatles boring - but they do. There are many better- and much more informative Beatles podcasts out there.

LG-DocWhoAn Insightful and Fun Look into the BeatlesAn excellent podcast that goes beyond the usual lazy Beatle tropes.

ear rationalRefreshing, Smart and InsightfulAlso hilarious. An antidote to the Jean jackets 👍

globalStefferI’ve been pulled inI started down a bit of a rabbit hole worthy of Lewis Carroll starting with Get Back - my prior knowledge of The Beatles was cursory at best. It then felt like sipping the ocean through a broken straw - while simultaneously trying to connect with complex relationships, themes of creativity, leadership, betrayal, communication, fame, class, culture, gender - on top of pure musical appreciation. I have to admit to being fascinated by the incredibly powerful (yet confusing) relationship between John and Paul. I stumbled into AKOM and have shocked myself with how just how addicting it is - thoroughly enjoyable, deeply insightful, incredibly well prepared and delivered without being at all stiff or rigid. I listen while walking dogs (dogs appreciate because the walks have gotten longer) and feels like I’m sitting around with friends having an animated conversation. Highly recommend!

Pappy Drew 90Somehow the opinions are worse than the audio qualityHard pass

FuschiaLove this show — thank you!As a woman who went from being a casual Beatles fan to wanting to dive off the deep end following Get Back, I dipped in to a range of podcasts and didn’t feel like I’d found a home until I found AKoM. Love the combination of deep research, willingness to question received truths, and absolute fun the hosts have. Although I am still finding my way in this fandom, I feel like I’ve found a great community here. Thank you!
-
TumpoverLittle Lamb DragonflyFirst, I've been enjoying your podcast tremendously. Thank you! Little Lamb Dragonfly has been a favorite of mine since college in the 70s. The emotion in Paul's voice always gets to me. The dragonfly is said to symbolize growth, transformation, hope, and love.
-
JedishampooRefreshingThis podcast goes to such logical places in the Beatles’s story, you’ll wonder how this is not mainstream information and what all those writers have been doing all these years (listening to one John Lennon interview, I guess). This pod will definitely give you another viewpoint on the history and interpersonal relations of the Beatles! They do their research, too.
-
anniecmacA+ for research and entertainment valueBest researched Beatles pod I’ve found. Informed, interesting, thought-provoking commentary shared with bluntness and humor. Prepare to have your preconceptions challenged! Also, mind the explicit warning! These women don’t pull their punches, lol.
-
NoopysmaI tried…..I’m giving this 3 stars b/c it seems like the hosts know at least as much as I do about the subject but the one who does all the talking ( don’t know which one she is) has a voice I just can’t listen to very long. She sounds like my friends college-age daughter….lol. I kept wishing the other woman would contribute more b/c her voice is much better for this type of medium. Beatles Naked is the best podcast about the Beatles, in my opinion.
-
tickywritesRecent attempt to be “neutral” was a failureIn a recent episode, they claimed they were going to try to discuss Paul and George in Get Back and be “neutral” about it. Well, they failed. Most of the episode was them defending Paul and putting down George. They claimed George has never publicly admitted being wrong…meanwhile these podcasters never discuss some of the things Paul has done. (For instance, Paul telling a costumer how long Jane Asher’s skirts had to be or the paternity suits against him in the early 60s — I don’t think that sort of thing is ever discussed on this podcast because it’s too hard for them to spin those things into nuggets of pro-Paulness.) I like Paul. Paul is awesome. But if you’re not going to be objective about him, then just say so. Don’t say you’re going to try to be neutral when you obviously are not capable of doing so.
-
lightningbugTherapy for Beatle peopleThis show is like you have a couple of therapists who are funny, kind, mindful, and tough when they need to be. Only, instead of helping you understand your life, they help you understand the Beatles. Which, if you’re a Beatle Person, might be the same thing?
-
KWolkyFor Beatles nerdsRequired listening for the Beatles fan who wants to understand the (real) McCartney/Lennon relationship beyond the traditional narrative. Every episode blows my mind a little or a lot!
-
digmyearthA Better Kind of Beatles PodcastThis is simply one of the best Beatles podcasts around. The level or research, depth of analysis, and careful consideration is unparalleled. If they transcribed and printed their shows, it would be your favorite Beatles book due to their unique tales and thought provoking revelations. It’s easy to be entertained by a Beatles podcast; it’s unusual to learn something or to have some preconceived thought challenged by a show. This show does that in an entertaining and informative manner. Start at the beginning and enjoy the ride.
