sherpa285A “C” for effortThis podcast isnt terrible, it’s pretty standard fare: Two guys who really like music and do a shallow dive into every album an artist does. Because they cover some bands I really like a lot, I was willing to overlook the two-guys-riffing-it approach that I normally stay away from, but the first crack in the wall was the Black Flag episode where there were enough misconceptions shared that a few times I thought, “I should be telling these guys about Black Flag, not the other way around.” I hung in for another dozen or fifteen episodes, but the one that killed it was the Velvet Underground episode where the pretty much both say they hate VU and Lou Reed for many reasons. I certainly understand that, but what I didnt understand is why they were even doing a VU episode….which lead me to wonder why I was listening to this podcast. And I didnt have an answer. Good luck, guys…I mean that. My best advice is to spend more time in prep and less time feeling the need covering bands you dont like just because theyre supposed to be important.

guywhoinventedfireMy favorite podcast!Absolutely the best music podcast I’ve ever heard. I’ve been introduced to so many bands I never would have heard of because of this podcast. I’ve also heard honest, comprehensive reviews of albums I would never have known existed! Mike & Alex are fun to listen to, and pretty swell guys as well.

bluepotatoVocabulary from 10 year oldsI’m all about great podcasts that celebrate music with good critique and the depth of knowledged to draw you in to every episode. But unfortunately, these guys, cannot make a consistent thought in anything they talk about on their podcast. In fact their dialogue goes revolves around “great f’ing song” or “boring song” and goes nowhere for over an hour. Seriously reconsider how you approach drawing listeners in next time…it’s time to move out of the 3rd grade.

IForgotToPutInTheCrystalsToo much swearingI like the concept of this podcast but each episode would be half its current length if the boys didn't pepper their commentary with an F bomb every five seconds. Nonstop swearing is not a mark of intelligent people -- sorry lads.

1983JamsDeep dives and beautiful bickeringRegardless of whether Mike and Alex mutually or exclusively love or hate a given artist, album or song - it’s a blast hearing them give their unfiltered opinions on the music. They really know their stuff too.

CastDisRiteHereMore of the sameThis isn’t even personal. I think the podcast world is simply plagued by low effort amateurs, because it is still in its infancy and the podcast fans will practically listen to anything. Look, what’s the point of listening to this or any other such genre podcast (music, movies, whatever)? Do the hosts have some particular knowledge that will entice my curiosity and enrich me somehow? No. Do they have an unusual way of analyzing the music they discuss? Nope. Are they funny? Nah, I can listen to comedy if I wanna laugh. So why should I listen to this? Just two guys who did some basic research and then put out some run of the mill opinions about it. Sometimes you agree, sometimes you don’t. Who cares. This is absolutely forgettable. For what it’s worth, they missed the point of Type O’s famed “live” album. Who doesn’t enjoy hearing songs they have heard countless times being brought to life in a live environment? Did they not hear the insanely funny, subtle changes in the gang vocals during the “I know you’re…” hook? haha Anyway. Nice guys. Less annoying than most. No fart sounds or sound effects. This may be good for the 16-24 year old working class crowd but for anyone expedient actual substance, it’s nothing special. Sorry.
