Rude Tales of Magic

Leisure #42Games #8

Branson Reese and his jester's retinue, Christopher Hastings, Carly Monardo, Tim Platt, Joe Lepore, and Ali Fisher, buck and bumble through the magical backwater world of Cordelia. One hopes you enjoy both japes AND scrapes, because honestly, it would be impossible to disentangle one from the other, given their profound entwinement in this particular piece of entertainment. Produced by Taylor Moore @ Fortunate Horse.

An amazing improvised comedy podcast in a surprisingly enjoyable D&D wrapper
I’ve never been into D&D but found this podcast through friends and am obsessed. The characters are hilarious and the way the actors play with each other is brilliant - love the Bellow and Albee storyline, the StirFry and DeBonesby history, etc. Lots to love!

    Pretty good
I would give it 4 out of 5 stars because for a podcast it’s “pretty good”
  • DoubleA-Reviews
Vulgar, insane and laugh out loud fun
Rude tales is hands down the funniest D&D podcast I found to date and has had me laugh aloud more in public more times than I care to admit. The worldbuilding is fun , the cast is the best and have such great chemistry, not to mention a DM who’s more than happy to up the zany factor, you simply can’t go wrong with Rude Tales

Please give this show a chance. It’s so good
I have never actually become a patron on Patreon for anything else but I love these guys so much I just had to get access to the bonus content so I could laugh more

    Bless Us Hell Rules
A very funny very well produced podcast about a band of misfits going on a journey! Totally new AP podcast plot!!! No one has done it before! But seriously, sound mixing and soundscaping is crisp from the get go. The character voices are amazing and it's the perfect balance of serious and funny. (Also, I would die for Stirfry. He's the only really this is getting a five star review.)

    Delightfully Rude
I would DIE for Stir Fry

Makes me feel every single feeling
Even feelings that I don’t think there are names yet. You will laugh, cry, fall in love, all of those things and even more with this cast of loves people scamps. Each member of the cast is terrific and brings something extremely important to the show, whether it’s Ali Fisher’s deadpan humor, Joe Lepore’s wonderfully earnest line deliveries, Carly Monardo badassness (if you are looking for awesome female representation in fantasy, look no further than Ali’s Cordelia and Carly’s Albee, their friendship is incredible and they are amazing characters in their own right), Chris Hastings throws himself into his (hilarious and well thought out) character without fear, and Tim Platt is utterly charming while, at the same time, being addictively absurd. With Branson Reese to lead them into his world of surreal characters, situations, and just...being, it’s like meeting a group of friends you wish you had. It’s all wrapped up in a beautifully produced package by Taylor Moore. Give it a try! If it’s not for you, that’s okay, but if it is for you, isn’t it cool to know now?

This is the best dungeons and dragons podcast. These folks are incredibly talented improvisers and the production value is fantastic.

Can’t stress how hilarious this is
I’m a big fan of actual play podcasts and uhhh toilet humor? Or whatever kind of humor that’s in this podcast. It’s absolutely LOVELY and if you’re a fan of Dungeons and Daddies or TAZ: Balance, you’ll love this improvisation and character development (not to mention the very sexy cool and creative combat!!!!). Give this a listen! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

    This is my favorite podcast
I listen to a lot of podcasts (yes before the pandemic too) and I’ve listened to a lot of actual play podcasts, and most are not good. Acting is cringe, things could be cut out, they don’t edit the audio at all to add background music, sounds or effects (podcasts are an auditory experience if you’re going on an adventure help me be there). This show does it all, it really is less of an actual play podcast and more a story told through it. In behind the scenes talks they said they cut out boring stuff and it shows cuz it’s all good. The humor is rude and laugh out loud but somehow at the same tine the story and world are very engaging and interesting. There are several moments I actually paused because i was crying. You know what else i hate? Re-listening to something but i did that for this whole series it’s that good, music and sound effects done smoothly and not annoying they just bring the world out. Acting is good, and they work together well. No time is wasted, there is no boring part of the show.

    The best TRPG podcast period
This is the funniest ish of my whole life but it’s also a super engaging and enchanting story and the music is fantastic. I want everyone to listen to this podcast tbh.

    Your Next Favorite Actual Play
So this was recommended to me from a fellow Adventure Zone fan, and since I’ve been looking for another great Actual Play podcast to binge during quarantine, I decided to jump right in. And I have absolutely zero regrets. This podcast is amazing. The acting & inter-player chemistry are incredible, and the show hits that glorious balance of laugh-out-loud, tears-in-my-eyes funny and also knowing how to stealth-punch me in the feels. This podcast might not be for everyone. There’s a lot of scatalogical grossness & body horror, which normally is a big no for me. But I think it says a lot about the quality of this show that I’m willing to invite the rudeness for the sake of the magic. (I’m just saying that I’m very squeamish. So for me personally, a story with a lot of grossness has to clear an extremely high bar of enjoyment, or else I will nope out at the first opportunity. But RToM has its hooks in me deep, and I eagerly look forward to each episode! Which is saying a lot, for me.) In short, this is my new favorite actual play podcast. So give it a shot! Maybe it’ll be your new favorite, too!
  • Unusual times
I have almost died several times listening to this while driving. Make sure you are in a place where you can laugh hard enough for your face to contort into a mask of blind delight.

Is it unhealthy to listen this much to rude tales?
Possibly the coolest people on this earth. Thank you guys for the content you create! I’ve listened to everything probably 4 times at this point, my friends are already tired of me telling them to start listening😎 and of course, the obligatory love for stirfry!

    Love the show, hate Stirfry
The show is amazing. Stirfry is the absolute worst and I skip it every time. If their patreon has a “no stir fry cut” I would subscribe.
  • travisisjoking
    Consistently Great
This has quickly become my favorite podcast. Completely ridiculous but with a lot of effort and attention to detail put in without taking itself seriously at all. Just A+ all around. Obligatory would die for stir fry.
  • voodoodawl
    You'll forget it's a game
This podcast and campaign are so good and the comedy is so well timed you'll believe it's scripted. When I realized I had relistened to every episode two or three times I was glad to give to their patreon for even more content. Keep up the work rude crew!
  • Dj handbooks
    It rules
This podcast made me text my friends saying “I think I want to play dnd” that’s how fun this podcast is. I save the episodes for when I’m traveling for work so I can listen to them while I’m driving my rental car because they’re so good. I hate driving, it makes me so anxious and this podcast really helps calm me down in the car, I often find myself laughing out loud. Flipcup must be protected at all costs. If you wouldn’t die for Stir Fry at this point, we have nothing in common because you are a monster.
  • morganislaaame
    good show is good
i loved it from the beginning but ep 9 cemented it i was fully laughing at the gym
  • mangus42
I have never played a table top RPG, but it doesn’t matter. I haven’t laughed this hard listening to a podcast in quite some time.
  • Not Michiku Kakutani
the actually clever and funny DnD podcast
There's something special about people with real comedic chops playing DnD (and actually knowing the rules for bonus points!). Cohen Edenfield said it best: "...when they tell a joke it doesn't feel like they're trying to disarm a bomb." If you've written off DnD actual play podcasts as aimless and cringe-y, do be sure to give this one a try anyway. Branson Reese is an inventive and refreshing DM. Even the potty humor bends back and becomes poignant plot points later.
  • Schwallay
    A lovely listen
This groups dedication and balance of improv, well written scenarios, and bubbly dynamic keeps me listening every time a new episode drops.
