minima morel'iaThis is some life affirming stuff! My entry point to Apology was the episode with Rachel Kushner, and since then I’ve listen to so many episodes. Jesse Pearson has a soothing voice. It is great to hear about so many inspiring artists and their relationships to books and non-books. Everyone from guitarist Matt Sweeney to Andre Gregory. Everyone seems honest and accessible. I am not really into podcasts, but this a good one.

Jimmbo2feetPerfectI’ve listened to every episode of this show multiple times since I discovered it a little over a year ago. I wish there were 10,000 episodes. Each interview is an unique look into the lives of interesting people whom already have singular insight when it comes to art or music or movies. The focus on literature leads each conversation into fun and rarified areas, even if you’re not a books obsessed nerd.

HattieheinIntelligence, honesty, calmnessA well-read host who actually listens to his guests. A solid half-read, half haven’t collection of guests and references. A calming feeling of respectful intellect.

jackthewolfetake your timei started with AS hamrah's episode and then did rachel kushner's and then did all the rest, but way too quickly. this is a podcast that one should savor. it's just cool people talking about books and then talking about life. it's almost precisely the sort of thing i've been looking for for years-- like a longer, denser version of those fun nytimes "by the book" pieces, but less schematic. i liked some episodes more than others (the episodes w/ musicians as guests are sort of mixed bag, though the david pajo interview is beautiful and unforgettable), but every one has something to offer, whether it's a great book recommendation ("miami blues" IS great) or just a bit of wisdom. thank you jesse

tylerstevenbartonAn absolute gift.I’ve been introduced to so many artists I would not have otherwise discovered via this podcast, and the guests I did have knowledge of, I had never heard them interviewed before, or at least interviewed with so much depth, interest, honesty and frankness. My favorite interview podcast.

PhillyGirl99Love Apology!I really liked the Apology podcast episode with New Yorker writer Naomi Fry, who loves to read, in which she walks you through her fave books, current reads (a dusty copy of Money by Martin Amis that she picked up at a thriftstore) and background in literature. More of this, I say!

emb3000Thank you JesseI had the thought the other day that I would like to send Jesse Pearson a thank you card specifically for this podcast, so since I don’t have his address, I figured I’d write a review. I’ve listened to every single one of these episodes, many multiple times, and they continue to get better and more in-depth with each guests as they talk about the books they love. Jesse doesn’t have an interview style necessarily since he meets each guest on their own terms and let’s then steer topics to what they are passionate about in literature. It’s really refreshing, and I’m always excited for each new episode when it arrives. This latest one, with Simon Critchley, was my favorite one yet and I ordered five books referenced in it. I wish there were more podcasts l that treat the love of reading with such reverence and intelligence as this one does. Thank god we have the Apology podcast. Thank you Jesse!

Stem ChristieReader’s DelightThis is an enjoyable, mellow podcast for book lovers. It’s nice that Pearson includes song writers here, although two of my favorite (Callahan and Oldham) seem to have never read a book by a woman, and that made these particular podcasts come off as kind of Bro. I was dreading the Ian McKaye interview for that reason, but that sweetheart focused on women writers and made my day.

boomisbiptatusDigs Deeper Than MostI love this concept of asking someone what they are reading or have read, taking the direct focus off of the subject. Ultimately, the conversation will reveal to people a deeper layer of the guest. We get to hear their reaction to a book, which leads to fantastic stories about their life and opinions. Interviewers have been doing failed attempts at this for years. Using literary favorites as a launching point is genius. Experiences and reactions to books are deeply personal. Listen closely and you will realize that no other podcast digs as deep into the psyche of the guests as this one. Not to mention, you get a lifetime of literary recommendations you get to walk away with! Love it.

liballoca podcast that honors curiosityi discovered Apology podcast when David Pajo posted about it on instagram and it's really brightened my life, introducing me to new authors and learning about the biographies of my favorite musicians through their reading history. I appreciate Jesse's anti-sobbery and his good energy; he gets guests to talk about subtle aspects of their lives and tastes.

mharkin042My favorite literary podcastLove this show and the magazine too. Great guests so far. Interviews are illuminating and have turned me on to several books I’ve really liked. Recently enjoyed William Craddock “Be Not Content” which I learned about from the Stephen Malkmus episode. Highly recommend this podcast!

Daly City Dollar TreeOne of my favorite listensApology is a great podcast that is based around literary discussions with an almost esoteric group of musicians, writers, a pro skateboarder, and even a psychiatrist. Jesse Pearson is a great host who has the gift of being able to maintain interesting conversation. Even when I am not familiar with a guest, Jesse is able to find a touchpoint that draws me into their world. Apology is a must if you are in any way interested in contemporary literature.

Reader of ThingsCan't Say Enough Good ThingsI love this podcast. I tell friends it's about reading, not writing. It's about what people are reading, what people like, what people read when they're young. It's not writers promoting their books, though some of the guests are writers. And Jesse's a great interviewer, easy, relaxed. I always finish an episode with a list of books I want to check out.

impatience impermanence mtnIf You Read, You Should ApologyApology consists of conversations with interesting people. That being true of most podcasts, Apology is different in that host Jesse Pearson focuses the conversations around the books that guests have read or are reading. Not only does this provide insight into how these interesting people actually became interesting, it encourages listeners to pursue those same interests by way of the wide-ranging list of books discussed. Dive-in and dig through.
