    Fun, well done binge
Found this series late- obviously aware of the story but never actually did a deep dive. This was fun to put on for a cleaning day- ended up listening to almost the whole thing and my house is clean! The scenes were cheesy and overdone, but I could imagine that being intentional, and I didn’t mind them. Fictionalized conversations between real individuals should be represented in this way to remind they’re fictionalized. I actually only wish it was even a bit longer!

    Very, very bad
What others said: the dramatizations are very bad. Very, very bad.

    Better than Netflix
After trying -and failing- to get into the Netflix version this was exactly what I was looking for. Not over the top but clearly telling the story of Anna -and keeping me entertained!- I devoured all 6 episodes today

    Interesting podcast
Anna was intelligent, did her homework and was very cunning.I can understand her longing for success and making her dreams come true. I can also understand the people she met wanting to believe in her; but using people was inexcusable. This podcast also highlighted weaknesses in the system and human frailty.

The whining voice and bad accent
Story line could be okay, but the voice actors were really bad, especially Ana.

    farce of a podcast
Oh, this is just a audio play (re-enactments) about the story. Not an actual journalistic approach to telling the story. Not going to listen beyond the first episode. It's all made up (I guess an homage to Anna??).

    Morocco
I still think Rachel is a stupid girl!! she used her friend Anna! Anna only had intentions to have fun with her and have a friend! Anna felt lonely and had no one to turn to! Rachel and all the other girls Anna talked to are not friends they’re just money hungry jealous girls! They probably thought Anna was a one way ticket to the rich life! Rachel just leaves her in Morocco alone?? If She was a true friend that cared I wouldn’t have left her in Morocco alone!!! Rachel is not a true friend and she just sounds fake and jealous when she talks about Anna you could just hear it i her voice she has resentment towards Anna.. even before she took her money the way Rachel moved was just selfish..

    Laughably Terrible
Who wrote, directed and cast the re-enactments?? They all need to find other lines of work, because they’re incredibly bad at their current ones.
  • Schelin1964
    credible & jaw dropping
Contains interviews with people actually involved with real life Anna. The re-enactments are excellent. Bottom line is where netflix left me confused, this podcast has all the answers.

    Loved it
This is a perfect companion piece to the Netflix show and you learn the actual trajectory. Highly recommend.
  • Marge321
    Incredible
Loved it. So perfect. Combo of drama, actual audio clips from witnesses, and reporting.
  • Ladymcquaid
    This had so much promise
The re-enactments were unfortunately so so terrible and embarrassing that I couldn’t make it through half of an episode. YIKES.

    Great listen
Can’t believe the depths at which people deceive other people.. How do they sleep. Wow!

    Don’t waste your time!
The moral of this podcast seemed to be to fantasize over parts the journalist didn’t bother to research. This is the lowest level podcast, clearly made with very minimal effort. I’m out at episode 3. The story itself is fascinating so I hope someone else puts in the work to actually tell it in the future.

    Very enjoyable
I’m glad I didn’t pay attention to the negative reviews. I found this a very informative and entertaining podcast. Loved the music too. Definitely give it a listen.

    CRINGE
    Annoying all of it.

More a radio drama than real reporting
This felt like the bare minimum effort put into reporting and focus was instead on the “dramatics” of the “actors”. Which was as good as my quotations suggest. Good if you sleep with podcasts on at night but otherwise, pass.

    It’s not fiction
I found this under the fiction section. I was expecting an audiobook type podcast. It’s some sort of reenactment of a true story with “fictionalized dialogue”. Two thumbs down.

    Strained accents
The dramatized scenes were too painful to listen to - the phony American accents sounded stilted and petulant

    Excellent Podcast!
Excellent podcast! Compelling, true story and very well produced. *Interestingly, the best podcast acting/dramatization I have ever come across. -Gabriel New York City

    Superb
Five stars. The narration and re-enactments spot on.

    Great story - Horrible Re-enactments
Should have saved the music licensing budget and spent it on better actors and a screenwriter. Sounds like a 14 year old wrote these scenes.
  • AdvocateBLM25
    So intriguing!
Love the blend of documentary and acting in this podcast and the music too! The story is absolutely unbelievable, so crazy that it really happened. I can't wait for Netflix show to come out!
  • rosa manzo
    I liked it
I don’t know if the dramatic scenes were necessary.

    Ugh. The ridiculous dramatic acting..
Fascinating story, but the unnecessary dramatic acting and terrible accents are enough to make you stop listening! They should edit this podcast all over again without them, then I would feel comfortable recommending the show to friends.

    LOVE
Sorry about those cranky pants that gave their crabby reviews. I love everything about this podcast. I’m obsessed w/ cons and I’ve listened to many versions of Anna D. None of them compare- From the music to the HIGHLY annoying (and perfect) voice of that ***hole Anna delvey. Yep- that voice is totally cringe- as it’s supposed to be! 💜😂💜😂😂💜💜

    New fan of Vicki Baker
Providing these podcasts was no small task. I listened from beginning to end in an afternoon. Provides different reporting. The accents of actors are believable. The main subject and comments , as acted , are credible... I could “ hear” maladapted people I’ve met in my life. No judgment on those “ Anna” hoodwinked . She was , initially, a master at manipulation and lies.

Could have been a great story
Very interesting story, awful narrative and production. There is no in depth story telling here, really poor acting d as no overall unimpressive. It could have been so much more...
  • JPATC
    Great story- poor production
The previous reviews are spot on. The actors could have spent a little more time learning the American accents, or avoided it altogether. Comes off almost like a caricature poking fun at them. Kitschy soundtrack.

Fake Heiress was real to me
I don’t know how I missed this story when it happened but I happened onto this podcast and could not stop listening. Anna Delvey pulls off posing as a rich young heiress in the NYC even though she was a young working class Russian immigrant to the UK. Journalist Vicky Baker and playwright Chloe Moss work together to creat this stage worthy podcast.

    Interesting story, bad podcast
The story is fascinating but this podcast is cringeworthy to listen to. It’s an exercise in self-discipline for me to get through each episode because of the very distracting lame fictional dialogue that peppers the actual reporting. It makes the production feel very cheap and I feel it compromises the integrity of the journalism. It sounds more like a particularly bad Lifetime movie about superficial high school drama turned into a podcast, if that makes any sense. I feel like it makes more a mockery of the story than anything else, which is a shame because it’s actually quite interesting. I found myself googling articles to read instead.
  • Beka_Bo
    Too noisy
I was interested in listening to this but their background sounds and songs were too distracting. I had a hard time hearing the actual story.
  • BudLightDarts
    Different but good
I’m not sure about the “acting” part but I enjoyed on my morning work from home walk.
  • Soft Whisper
    Ok
Interesting story but the voice of Anna was hard to listen to. Otherwise, this is a well done podcast and I enjoyed the soundtrack.
  • Orwell2611
    Interesting Story
This story is very interesting, full of twists and turns, and flew under the radar outside of New York (I’m an American but not a New Yorker). The narration is great, loved the music. The acted parts added to the narrative. My only issue was the lack of authentic American accents. Normally, I don’t pick on details like this, but couldn’t the BBC have used American actors? It was so distracting to me. I get that everyone criticizes foreign actors feigning accents, but because this is an all audio platform, I found it grating - strange NYC accents, funny lilting, weird use of American slang that didn’t go over well (“axed”? Really?).

    I’ll save you some time
I was going to listen to this but right in The opening it clearly States there are fictional parts of the story. Disappointing and not my thing. I’d be interested in the story without fictionalization

    Very Fun
    Entertaining & a really good listen 😊

    Lazy
Super lazy reporting.... this feels like someone read the articles around this fascinating story and then made up some dialogue around it... Bummer.
  • asqwrfwrfsrt
    Terrible voice actors
Couldn’t make it through the first episode
  • Newba04
    Cool story but cringeworthy
Listening to the voice of “Anna” was like nails on a chalkboard. So cliche for a vapid 20-something. The story itself is fascinating but this form of storytelling left much to be desired.
  • sfn177
    Awful
This is laughably bad. Whose idea was it to ruin a good story?
  • AvidLstener
    Very bad idea
This story should have been done as straight long form journalism . All this music and nonsense dramatisation is a cheap (literally) alternative to real reporting!!! You are insulting the intelligence of your audience!!!
  • clsullie
The worst. Don’t waste your time
Oh, man. So disappointed. What a compelling story. Seemingly impossible to mess up. This “podcast” managed. If your into Sesame Street you might like it.

    100% guilty pleasure
Can’t believe the podcast’s score isn’t higher! It’s totally addictive. Binge-listened without taking a pause!
  • handbag_hobby
    Loved it!
First, if anyone has HEARD Anna speak on tv, etc.; this IS how she sounds!! The actor on the podcast played it perfectly, in my opinion! I’ve followed Anna’s tale, read Rachel’s book, pretty much whatever I can get my hands on and this podcast was icing on the cake! Hit all the details while keeping succinct, I highly recommended it!
  • PW from GR
    Engrossing story but...
I thought it was just me but Anna’s voicing was ridiculous. She sounded like a spoiled brat airhead who never would have commanded the attention of powerful people.
  • courtcase1128
The actor accent of Anna ruined it for me
I really wanted to like this podcast, but by the third episode I just couldn’t take the actors accent of Anna any longer. Had to unsubscribe..
