Bewildered

993

What if we stopped listening to the controlling voice of the culture around us, and instead learned to reconnect with our own true nature?

Sometimes we aren’t even sure why we feel so bewildered… and discontented… and even downright miserable. Often it’s because we have let the forces of society replace our own instinctive knowledge of what is right for us.

Now, it’s time for us to find that voice again—before it’s too late.

For Martha and Rowan, Job One is to live according to our deepest truths, making the commitment to feeling good even when it means looking weird. We believe that this is how we will reinvent our world—from the inside out— to create a society that’s kinder, more equitable, and more ecologically sustainable than the one we see around us right now.

This is the vision that we laugh and stumble and chat and feel our way towards here on this podcast.  Did we mention LAUGH? We want no part of personal and global transformation if it isn’t fun!

So if you struggle to find a place where people who are as idealistic and brokenhearted, as silly and deeply sincere, as bewildered as you are—you might have just arrived.

Welcome!

    Cahoot
I always love listening to Martha and Row. They have helped me to challenge culture on an almost daily basis. I especially loved the idea of a chahoot because challenging our long held assumptions is a little easier if we feel less alone and of course retain a sense of curiosity and humor. Thanks for always making my day!

    Hilarious and Real
A new episode of Bewildered always feels like a delicious chocolate I can’t wait to unwrap. Marty and Ro are so freakin’ hilarious just by telling their lives they way they are! This podcast (along with The Gathering Pod) has sparked a whole new lexicon among a few kindred spirit friends where we drop Marty-and-Ro-isms as shorthand for sharing moments of synchronicity or moments of following our senses instead of culture. In particular, I appreciate how Marty and Ro are obviously gurus and human forms of higher powers for our time, AND totally foibled neurotic hilarious nut jobs. Because how could you be latter day Buddhas and not be!! Thank you for sharing foibles and eternal truths in the same conversations.

    Freedom, for real
I have been spent most of my life trying to find ME, and part of that process has included following, listening to, and watching others who seem to have found themselves. Martha and Rowan immediately stood out to me as those kind of people. They practice and embody a kind of freedom and understanding of the world that is contagious and inspiring to me. As I’ve listened to their stories, thoughts, and struggles, I’ve found greater courage and access to finding myself and my own self-expression. It turns out this is a lifelong practice, and being in community with others who are on the same path is essential. My heart is full of gratitude for the generosity and wisdom of these two humans.

    Striving to be a ‘wildling’
“If it feels good and looks strange you’re on the right path.” The joyful recognition of another who is off the spectrum of culture in some way, as described in the episode called Blowing Up Your Life, is an absolutely perfect way of articulating what draws me to this podcast. The real trick is discovering what feels good to you - I’ll keep listening and learning. Thank you.

    Wildly charming & perfectly timed.
These are the conversations we should all be having! Science, insight, humor… funny animal videos… every time I hit “play” it sincerely feels like it. Thank you both. Love you both. 🖤✨

    Really Love This Podcast
Just listened to the episode with Karen - absolutely my favorite! So many beautiful insights - especially the parts about love being freedom and unconditional. Amazing! Please bring her back! Love the entire show and get so much from listening. ❤️

    Annoying and rambling
I have always loved hearing Martha Beck as a guest on other podcasts I listen to. But I was disappointed find that as hosts, there feels like no focus. I gave up after the first 20 min - they were talking about their life & anecdotes & a random joke and on and on. I just found the whole thing annoying. I guess I’ll get Martha’s content on other shows where there’s a host to focus the conversation.

    Love!
Toddler Jet Lag was my first episode and I’m hooked. Thanks for sharing deeply and exploring concepts that affect us all. And inspire us to individual action. I’m still terrified for our 10 months first flight but asking myself the question “why go” and coming up with some really interesting answers. Plus it’s only domestic.

    best podcast ever
I love ya Ro and Martha! Having your vibration available in the daily is such a saving grace for me in my life- and the best reminder to seat myself back into my integrity. Thank you for being so transparent and honest. 💙

    Spot on!
I’m new to the show but am so attracted to the intelligence, honesty, and straight talk. Doesn’t seem to be the often heard chatty proving yourself I am cute show. Rather the I am sitting with myself and you as openly and forthrightly as possible. Seems a show that can prompt real, profound, positive change. Thank you!!

    So relatable
I am a scientist a lesbian, and have ADHD- this podcast has been a real comfort to me because I relate so strongly with the quirky, smart Martha. And, I am inspired by the love and acceptance shown by Rowan for her in all her glorious oddness. I loved Martha’s book The Joy Diet years ago and this podcast was a special find. She is teaching me self acceptance and even pride rather than shame for the way that I am. And I have to say that although I’m happily married to my own wife, I have a crush on Rowan with the cute things she says and her inflections - I can’t get enough of her saying that we should leave a review “especially if it’s Apple” and that she wouldn’t object to our leaving 6 stars- so here they are! ******

    My New Favorite Podcast
These are among my most favorite people to listen to for wise and thoughtful commentary, and sense of connection and community. I am delighted to have found this podcast. It is soul sustenance.

    One of my favorite podcasts!
This podcast provides so much light in my life. I love listening to Martha and Rowan’s conversations and musings about culture. The way they laugh together always makes me laugh. It makes me want to hang out with them and have cool conversations. I always look forward to new episodes. As a mother of two young boys, my days are spent listening to stories about farts and video games. Thank you for breaking up the monotony and giving me the interesting discourse I so desperately need!

    Witt and joy delight
I don’t think I am “bewildered” but listening to your podcast I wish I was. Having been on a quest to reconnect with my true essence for years I find your conversations both reassuring and enlightening. Your podcast is a real gem, a perfect match of wisdom and humor. I always feel welcome.

    A podcast for the ages!
I was trained as a Like Coach-Master Life Coach model in 2007-09 in the early days of Martha Beck’s coaching program. Her insights and training transformed my life but most importantly equipped me to transform my own life during the perpetual change process over the past nearly twenty years. The recent episode about Square 4 of the change cycle and the never arriving-ness resonated.

    My People! Hilarious and Helpful
I LOVE and so appreciate the episodes where Rowan asks Martha to “fix her” because I can generally so relate to how Rowan is feeling - especially being a 40yr old toddler mom, myself! I love listening to these episodes in the morning. They make me laugh and help me start my foray off with less negative self-talk. And, I love binge listening to these on plane rides. So good! Thank you, both! You are a treasure!

This podcast is amazing. It makes me really think about things I always just assumed were weird things about me. Turns out they are totally normal! I love being my authentic self, and this podcast makes doing so much easier. Thank you!

    Love These Two Together
This show is hilarious and entertaining. Although I do sometimes get overwhelmed by how fast they talk - I think that’s just me. It is smattered with bits of wisdom, but I can’t decide if that is the main thrust of the conversation. I think humor might be the keystone of this podcast. It’s funny in a smart, spiritual, spirited and very liberal way.❤️

Completely addicted with joy and delight
I am not a podcast listener!! But…chasing an IFS interview..I just discovered these two ladies (and their dear ones at home) 5 days ago and I have listened to them non-stop ever since. It is crazy, but I do trust them due to their honesty about their weaknesses, their aspirations to express their creativity in love, their lifestyle of fumbling through life, and their deep commitment and appreciation of the ridiculous.

    It’s me!
OMG guys! I always loved the song “At 17” but never saw the applicability of it to my life. I remember on the eve of my wedding at 19 thinking “after tomorrow it will all be over, I won’t have to think about anything.” I was also 29 with 3 kids when I finally left. I’ve lived as an out lesbian for 31 years now. There’s more commonality here but I’ll save you from all those details. Thank you for sharing your lives and talents with us. Thank you especially for this episode.

I am always both taken deep inside myself in a way I couldn’t have anticipated and never fail to laugh right along with Martha and Roe who make it all accessible and fun. Martha is so knowledgeable and a profound spiritual guide—Roe has great stories and relatable wisdom to share. A great couple. I come away feeling like I might just be a little more wild, or at least allow myself to be bewildered as I feel things shift in my long-orderly life. Thank you both! LindaMarieL
