This podcast is awesome for the simple fact that I love reviewed things and horror movies. Great topics covered. Always love a good top 10’s list, the remake episode was awesome to hear. Not everyone should start a podcast. If running a popular IG page full of horror reviews wasn’t enough of an indication... And In case actually starting a horror podcast wasn’t a strong enough sign... Listening to the inaugural episode should be enough evidence that you’re in good hands with the Screaming Cinema Podcast. It is a great introduction to the insightful and knowledgeable sort of discussions we can expect from our hosts. Max and Tyler run through their top ten all time horror movies. Our hosts are fairly inclusive across the many eras and subgenres of horror, which is pretty great. There’s a lot of love in that room. They run the gauntlet taking turns to explain the personal significance (Halloween costumes/sneaking into theatrical showings) as well as the ‘whats and why’s’ for their choices. They also dive a little bit into where their picks fit within their franchises without losing momentum. Whenever there are movies on both lists they still discuss it both times without being repetitive and again, without losing momentum. So the quality of the content is solid. “What about the production quality?” you might be whispering to yourself. Most shows I listen to start out a little rough. As we do things we tend to grow and improve. And that’s perfectly acceptable to me. I’ll grow with someone who cares about what they’re doing. Based on what I’ve heard in this first episode, Max and Tyler have established a good system of recording. There are no wildly amateurish sounding moments. I would guess this is not their first time doing a podcast or they’ve put a lot of work behind the scenes to make sure they deliver a certain level of quality. (I would guess it’s both?) Sound recording and editing are a lot of work. There are a lot of variables and a whole lot of room for error. From what I could tell there weren’t any issues while they recorded and there weren’t any jarring editing choices. The levels all sounded great. They have audio clips from movies and they’re placed and blended in, perfectly. Never a sudden jump or dip in volume. Any criticism of the sound quality or editing would be some serious nitpicking and that ain’t my jam. Definitely looking forward to hearing the hosts focus in on single subject shows and seeing what other segments they have in store for us. If the show continues like this, it will be a smart, fast and funny (and maybe a little punny) part of my regular rotation.
