The Leading Edge in Emotionally Focused Therapy

105

Helping therapists on their leading edge of learning so they can help clients on their leading edge of healing. In each episode, we try to focus on parts/moments of the counseling experience through the lens of Emotionally Focused Therapy, developed by Sue Johnson. We share how we are being pushed in our growth process and things we are learning from our clients in their growth process. We are also thankful for the many EFTSupervisors and Trainers who share their learning nuggets with us to pass on to you. We invite you into a brave space as we all push our leading edges of learning and healing.

I absolutely love this podcast and I’m so grateful to have access to these conversations. Thank you!!!

If you want to grow in EFT, listen to these guys!!!
I was lucky enough to do Core Skills with Drs James Hawkins and Ryan Rana and that’s when I first heard about this podcast. Since that time I have listened to every one of their LE episodes and I can’t say enough great things about this podcast! I hold their voices with me to help me stay focused (and remember content is a TRAP!) in sessions and the things I’ve learned from them through this podcast have exponentially grown my understanding of EFT. If you are a baby therapist just starting out, these voices with help you find your footing. If you are a seasoned therapist, these voices will help remind you that you still have room to grow (and when EFT humbles you, that’s normal) and help keep you going when you start to get burned out. Thank you SO much James & Ryan for all you do!!!! Sending you so much gratitude from North Texas!

    Fantastic
I am kicking myself for not listening to this podcast years ago! I am about 6 years into practice of EFT but just completed core skills and started supervision this year, and this post has been SO helpful! I especially appreciate the breaking down of some of the foundational concepts such as TEMP and the attachment dilemmas (just to name two). Thank you so very much!

As a certified EFT therapist and supervisor, this is a great podcast. I often send my supervisees to listen. Keep the content coming.

    Stuck series
I always get a lot out of all of these podcasts. Been enjoying specifically the stuck series though. Being able to reset and reestablish roles with the meta-ladder is a life-giving process to take in so grateful for all who contribute to this podcast. Keep up the great work

James and Ryan = EFT Ride or Die
James and Ryan you have been able to create supportive EFT culture through your podcast. I love tuning in and feeling at home. Your passion and dedication is reflected in your high quality episodes. Also, my favorite podcast to recommend to anyone interested in EFT.

    My favorite podcast!
I am endlessly grateful for James and Ryan for sharing their EFT expertise on this podcast- I am a better therapist for it! Topics are relevant and I love their use of examples from their own clinical experience, images, questions that invite self-reflection, and tactical strategies that therapists can use in their sessions right away. I’m also a monthly subscriber to Success in Vulnerability, their other EFT project, and I’ve purchased an SV Live as well. I could not recommend them highly enough for any EFT therapist who wants a resource that will allow them to grow in their work every day. Every episode is engaging and a really fun listen. Thank you for all you do, James and Ryan!!

Like supervision in your back pocket!
If you love EFT, or are new to the model and want to continually sharpen your skills, the Leading Edge is a great resource for pushing yourself to grow and transform your practice. I’ve felt so grateful for this resource, whether I’m looking for last minute supervision before a tough case, or I was just thrown a curveball and I’m shaken, this podcast has been more than just a buoy in the storm…it’s truly the voices of stronger, wiser others that can resource you up so you can embark on this epic adventure with more compassion, confidence, and clarity in the therapy room. Thanks to the LE-EFT team for all you do.

    My favorite therapy related podcast
As a new therapist working primarily with couples, I often struggle with feelings of self-doubt. I stumbled on this podcast last year, and it has been an integral part of my growth as a clinician (and human). Working as a therapist can feel isolating at times, and this podcast supports me in feeling like I am part of a larger community, and that I’m right where I should be at this part of the journey. Even though I’m not strictly EFT, the topics of the episodes are useful in all of the work I do.

    Great Content!
Just listened to the episode with Jill Belconis and she had some great insight into lessons she’s taken from her years of experience in working in mortgages and now as a coach! Eric asked just the right questions for her to respond with detail on his amazing life experiences - a true testament to his hosting. I loved how applicable this episode was to those outside of the real estate industry.

    Incredible podcast for couples’ therapists!
I am so thankful for this podcast! I am learning the EFT model and recently started working with couples. This has been such a source of support and clarity as I learn to use EFT more skillfully.

    Treasure!
MORE PLEASE! I got EFT cold feet after a few cases went south and was reinvigorated after hearing the episode about FOCUS. Focus is what I’ve been missing and each and every episode is helping me feel sure that if I trust the process and lean in to the leading edge, my couples and families (and even individuals!) will heal and connect successfully. I have honestly brought moments from these episode IN to the room with me and SEEN the difference! More please!

Practical guidance to use in every couples session
Ryan and James do an amazing job breaking down the most common and sometimes complex parts of EFT into manageable bits which I can easily apply in my next EFT sessions. EFT can look like magic at first glance but Ryan and James demystify. James and Ryan make excellent EFT coaches as I continue to hone and improve my skills in this beautiful and difficult work with couples. It’s also an excellent resource I’ll be sharing with my supervisees and EFT community Thank you Ryan and James! Michelle Puster EFT Supervisor HOUSTON, TX 😊

I’m so grateful for y’all!

    Future podcast?
Hi! I listen to these very often and they’ve been exceptionally helpful. I’m wondering how EFT can be adjusted to tele-health? There are lots of references to the body in these podcasts, and I’m wondering how we can be more in tune with that if we’re doing distance counseling and are often limited in view. Also! How to adjust for couples that join from different locations. (Ex. Three individual screens instead of just counselor and couple screen). How do we foster connection between the couple with three screens? Would love a tele-health podcast to address the changes because of COVID!

    Helpful, sharp, great flow
It’s rare to find a therapy podcast this good. Ryan and James are fantastic couples therapists and the podcast is smart and enjoyable to listen to with how naturally they banter. It shares EFT into deep but also digestible pieces. It feels human and philosophical. Thanks guys, keep it up!
