    Hope + History = Perfection
This podcast delivers. I’m not surprised, given that I devour everything Jon Meacham does, but I had to write a quick note praising the quality of this podcast. (I’m happy to see the History Channel getting back to its roots. They had me worried for a while there!) Give us more!

    Fun Learning
I usually have trouble staying focused on anything audible—books and such—but Jon Meachum’s Hope through History has captured my attention. I look forward to listening every day. It’s usually my morning listen, and I’ve begun listening while running/walking. Looking forward to the next series: It Was Said.

Loved this podcast, insightful-great story telling and Meacham’s delivery is bang on. (I also thought the background music encapsulated the title/the theme incredibly well).

Great show, needs a different narrater
This show is really captivating but they need a new narrater because he’s so monotone and his deep voice makes you want to pass out.

    Beautifully Raw and Inspiring Refections
I loved this podcast. John Meacham’s brilliance in spoken word is as powerful as it is on written page. HTH is a captivating, informative immersive dive into some of America’s greatest challenges — thru a lens of perspective that inspires hope in the most crazy times. It’s full of powerful storytelling, primary source narrative from esteemed historians…and a whole vault of original soundbites I had no idea even existed! So great 🙏

    One of my favorite podcasts!
I love his voice!!! And I love history! This podcast is perfect. Hearing the episode of Bloody Sunday was chilling. I knew of this story but not this in depth. This country was just terrible for black people then. How did any of them live with themselves hating people for the color of their skin? So sad. Thank you Jon for telling important parts of history.

    Hopeful
There’s no one I would rather listen to than Jon Meacham. And probably no one else could do as much justice to this theme as him.

Dr Fauci? Please give me a break. He is at least partly responsible for millions of deaths around the world for funding gain of function research from US tax dollars.

    Biased History
Meachem is no historian. He is a partisan hack who has lost all legitimacy when his secret partisan far left extremist work was revealed.

    Fills in the blanks!
This podcast fills in the blanks from bits of history that I am familiar with but never really studied in much detail. The more contemporary topics gives texture to events I lived through, but was busy raising a family and nourishing a career to get the details and rich background! I love to listen while mowing, gardening and doing daily tasks as a public school teacher retiree in rural Missouri. I crave the sanity and inspiration this podcast provides! Thank you!!

    A true sources of hope
I'm eager to learn about American history. It makes me feel true hope how Joe Mecham presents the positive aspects of American History. It let me see the good under all the current events.
  • SoupNazi312
    Far too partisan
I’ve listened to several episodes and it is clear the narrator feels the need to insert partisanship commentary which clearly aligns with Democrat talking points. Shame.

    A Teacher for us all
With every episode, it’s like us listeners have a clear understanding of everything that is highlighted and explained. Each episode is crafted so well that by the end, you want to listen to the next, or know what happened next in the years after the event that was featured. Season 1 got me emotional in a few points, and Season 2 started off with a bang, also. I sincerely hope that this podcast continues for seasons and seasons to come. Citizens of all ages can benefit from the history that is told and explained in this podcast.

    Stellar
I could listen to Jon Meacham read the telephone book for hours, but hearing him explain and analyse American history in such detail is a true pleasure. The episode “Death At Sea,” about the sinking of the Lusitania, especially the very beginning, is one of the most beautifully written and read history lessons I’ve ever come across.

Average content with a decidedly leftward slant. Too bad.

    Brought me to tears
Just heard the Bloody Sunday episode and it was beautiful. The excerpt of LBJ’s speech combined with the speech of John Lewis at Selma before he died were so touching. It reminds me of the best about our country. The line that billy clubs, horses and tear gas were no match for love and non-violence stopped me in my tracks. Well done, sir.

    Biased analysis
I do not appreciate your political commentary. It is a shame, It ruined it for me.
  • Alhday
    Annoying
Too bad you can’t just present history. You ruin it with political garbage!!

    Ronald Reagan final speech
I really enjoy this podcast, as a former history teacher I enjoy hearing about history our history books devote little words. However, I do not appreciate the political commentary. You tell the history, I will fit it into my political view.

    Thank you from Michigan
There are precious few opportunities to listen to a fact-based, authoritative summary of history-especially at such an important moment in our own history. Thank you, Professor M! And know that we who seek truth and are living in a reality based on demonstrable facts are deeply grateful for your talents!

So much potential... but foolish parallels to modern presidents
Reagan was a great president. No president will ever win 49 states again. Way too negative pretending to create nuance where there was none. And there is no need to make useless and irrelevant comparisons to Trump. Trump, Kennedy and Reagan all hated establishment government. More in common than not.

  • Wings4Women
    Reagan’s Farewell Address
Generally I like most of these podcasts for their content - but, specifically did not like this one for the personal - political slant of the commentator as to comparisons (in the negative context) to President Trump’s speeches- I.e., relative to border crisis… Because the truth is we do have a major southern border crisis in 2021, as we did all throughout the Obama/Biden administration. If your personal opinions are such that 7.5 million offenses (according to G.A.O. during 2011-2016) committed by illegal aliens, costing US taxpayers 15 Billion to imprison these criminals... then your journalism is swayed by your personal political position & that’s no longer journalism... it’s jaded opinion.
