The Balanced Parent Podcast

83

Parenting is often lived in the extremes. It’s either great joy or chaotic overwhelm. One moment you’re nailing it and the next you’re losing your cool. I want to help you find your way to the messy middle, to a place of balance. You see, balance is a verb, not a state of being. It is a thing you DO, not a thing you ARE. It’s an action, a process, a series of micro-corrections that we make, each and every day, to keep ourselves feeling centered. We are never truly balanced, we are engaged in the process of balancing.Hello, I’m Dr. Laura Froyen, and this is the Balancing Parenting Podcast, where overwhelmed, stressed-out, and disconnected parents go to find tools, mindset shifts, and practices to help them stop yelling at the people they love and start connecting all delivered with heaping doses of grace and compassion. Join me in conversations that will help you get clear on your goals and values and start showing up in your parenting, your relationships, YOUR LIFE, with open-hearted authenticity and balance.

    Amazing Resource
Sometimes parenting resources make us feel worse about ourselves as parents, but NOT THIS ONE. Lots of practical tools that have allowed me to connect with both my nuerodiverse child and my neurotypical child in ways we all feel good about.

Compassionate guidance from a parent and therapist who gets it!
Dr. Froyen understands how parenting stretches and challenges us, while helping us see how much harder the challenging moments are for our kids. I especially appreciated the recent episode on sharing emotional labor with our partners.

    So Eye Opening!
I can’t say enough good things about this podcast! It’s really opened my eyes to a new way of parenting and connection with my babe. I would encourage all mamas to just pick an episode (ANY episode - seriously, they’re all so good!) and give it a listen!

    So beautiful!
Episode #100 was so beautiful and life giving! I am seeing all new areas of my life where I play- things that I enjoy doing and make me feel like ME! And now I have ways to communicate to my children and my partner why these things are important to me. I especially LOVED how you mentioned about discussing this at the family’s weekly check in meeting- “How can we make sure that WE, the parents, get to play this week? How can I support you so that we can make sure that happens for you? Let’s schedule it!” Thank you so much for this podcast and this episode in particular!

Of my top 3 fav parenting podcasts, I listen to this one first
This podcast has helped me grow as a parent and person. It’s one of my top 3 and i listen to its new episodes first. I love hearing the reasons why (evidence based) kids act like they do (or how I act as I do) and this has really helped me think about my parenting, self and life holistically. Some of my recent favs have been the one on neuroscience/kid Brains and the one on hormones for birthing people. dr Laura has also introduced me via the podcast her ig to other awesome parenting experts whose perspectives have helped me survive (& thrive! Occasionally) in parenting 2 littles. A very positive voice to have in your ear.

    LIFE CHANGING.
This podcast and Laura and her guest speakers have literally changed my life. From learning how to forgive and hug the little girl that I once was to gaining new insights and tools on how to be a better mother to my three children to how to be a better wife to my husband and a better friend to myself. I look forward each day to her new material on the podcast and Instagram. Keep up the good work! And thank you. ❤️

Where I go for a compassion reset
This podcast was been the most important touchstone for me in the deeply challenging days of the pandemic and all the rawness that it exposed for my family. Although my compassionate / respectful / conscious parenting path had already begun, this podcast quickly became my safest space for the grace and self compassion and personal tools that would help me align with my values and hopes even in really rough moments. So grateful- I recommend this to all my friends who are in the parenthood journey.

    So helpful
I have learned so much listening to this show. Even helped my sister-in-law get her 9 year old to stop bed wetting completely, in only a few days of implementing the help from the potty learning/ bed wetting episode. I’m a much more compassionate and patient parent with my toddler now. I’ve also sought out more help for myself after finally recognizing my toxic patterns. I have done tremendous healing and have parented myself better, which I’ve learned makes me a better parent for my son. Thank you for this content. It’s life giving.

    Life changing
After suffering severe PPD, I thought my chance of being a great mom like I’d always envisioned was destroyed. I had started on my path of motherhood in a very dark place and felt helpless in changing course. I knew the kind of mother I wanted to be, but didn’t know how to get there. This podcast, this soul-saving, beautiful blessing, has helped me realize it’s never too late to become the mom I want to be. I love the mother I’m becoming with the help of Dr. Laura. My depression had gotten less severe, and I’m navigating my triggers with so much more grace. I can’t say enough how much I needed this. I’ll forever be grateful for this podcast and how it’s helped my family.

    Amazing podcast!
Dr. Laura is the most compassionate, kind and intelligent therapist out there! She has the biggest heart and truly wants to help all parents and children that are suffering. There is so much information in her podcasts and in her Facebook group. She has helped me change my parenting style when I had so much doubt in myself. She never makes you feel judged, she is only supportive and compassionate. I have taken several of her courses which have been life changing. Dr. Laura, thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me grow. I am so lucky I found you!

Consistently helpful; just what I was looking for
Dr. Froyen’s podcasts have been consistently helpful. My daughter is sensitive and strong willed. Much of the advice I’ve found elsewhere is too rigid in one approach and has not worked well for me. Dr. Froyen discusses strategies from different approaches which leads to a more flexible and balance set of tools. She gives concrete and actionable suggestions. She has helped me change my perspective of my child’s behaviors and my parenting experience. I have more room for learning and growth, but these podcast give me a sense of direction and hope.

The concrete answers we’ve been looking for
Woah, I just found you, and you’re giving us concrete things to do with our 5&7 year old that we’ve been asking since the oldest was 2! Thank you, thank you. We’re kindred spirits. Episode 27: I was looking for validation of my highly sensitive big feelings my whole life and married someone who was taught feelings don’t exist. I work for Promega and they’re also teaching mindfulness/emotional intelligence and started my meditation journey through work a few years ago. They’re based in Madison too!

    The podcast I’ve been needing
Oh my gosh. This is the podcast I’ve been looking for. I’m so happy I heard Laura on Allie Casazza’s podcast!!! Laura completely holds her own and provides amazing information that I’ve been wanting to learn about. It’s like she knows exactly where I want to grow as a person and a parent and shares resources, knowledge and strategies to get there. Love this podcast so much and cannot wait to keep listening. Keep it up, Laura!!! Thank you!

    Great advice for parents!
I was looking for a podcast that would be helpful for both me and my husband, since so many are geared toward mothers. The episode Getting on the Same Page as Parents was exactly what I was looking for! My husband really enjoyed the episode as well, and I’m excited to listen to more soon.

    So Happy for this Podcast!
I’ve loved Dr Laura and her community for a long time. Her advice and help (both in the group and specific to my family when I’ve sought her guidance) has always been spot on and helped our family grow in a healthy and wonderful ways. “Lunch Breaks with Laura” are the BEST, but my only problem was that I don’t often have the space and time to sit down and watch a video. This podcast is a dream come true since we get these amazing topics and discussions in podcast format for easy listening.

    Wonderful Parenting Resource
When my daughter moved from the baby to toddler stage, I started thinking a lot about the kind of parent I wanted to be and the kind of relationship I wanted to have with my child now and in the future. As I started learning about “respectful parenting” and looking for resources, I came across Dr. Laura Froyen’s Lunch Break with Laura weekly videos on Facebook about a year ago, and I found them extremely helpful for my parenting, my relationships with others, and my relationship with myself. Her perspective on parenting really resonated with me. Parenting is such hard work, and I am so grateful to have found a supportive, nonjudgemental resource to help guide me. I am loving the first four episodes and am looking forward to hearing more.
