SNewhouseAmazing PodcastI LOVE this podcast! I’ve been listening to it nonstop since I first found it. I’m not a usual podcast listener, but this one has grabbed my attention and kept it. Hunting with dogs, and just hunting in general, is very interesting to me, and I’ve learned a lot just listening to a few episodes. I love how they go in depth on various different breeds, their purpose, their development, and so forth. Dogs are a huge interest of mine, so being able to learn so much in such a short time is amazing. Truly one of the best dog centered podcasts I have listened to.

PRISMK9Worth the listenLove the intellectual approach. Pleasant to listen to. There is so much to learn that I could go back and re listen and catch new things. Still waiting to hear about my breed, the Airedale Terrier. I listen to at least a couple hours of podcasts every day while I work and have been doing so for at least 5 years now. This is the first review I’ve written. Just wanted you to know I went out of my way for HDC.

755347FlushersI like the show but it seems like they have forgotten that flushing breeds exist. This has me skipping this show lately because I’m tired of hearing about pointers.

DL ownerEpisode 32Another great episode by this team. Especially appreciate the explanation between the German system and American systems. In my opinion, if you want the best chance of getting a good hunting dog the German system eliminates the chance of failure with the puppy you get by its health, confirmation, and performance standards. Which, by the way, have been in place for 100 plus years of breeding. I personally own two Deutsch Langhaars which may make me somewhat bias. But, a good example of the benefits of the German system is the fact that not one Deutsch Langhaar in America has failed the VJP test which is the equivalent of the NAVHDA Natural Ability test. And my dogs are both great hunters and companion dogs. And as you stated in the podcast “I’m all in” with the Deutsch Langhaar North American Organization and their requirements. Really enjoy these podcasts. Can’t wait for the next one and Magazine. Both the best in the Upland experience. Great job as usual!

JLCellistHistory and Practicality! This podcast has been such a joy, especially to a new dog hunter like myself. My only experience is with the dogs I currently own and have this deep repository of knowledge has been invaluable and inspirational. Thank you to both of the hosts for undertaking this challenge and for doing it so very well! I look forward to each new episode like a new book from a favorite author or blockbuster movie release!

commodore markFascinating!I am fascinated by this podcast. I have learned a lot about dogs in general and hunting dogs in particular. The hosts do an excellent job with this podcast. They are knowledgeable and they do a wonderful job of explaining the history of hunting dogs. Because they are such good storytellers, the stories and narratives are as interesting as they are informative. I am always looking forward to the next podcast. If you’re interested in dogs, I highly recommend giving this podcast a listen.

Rick SojdaOutstanding Hunting Dog Podcast! Many of us know Craig as a wonderful storyteller and he is in his element talking about pointing dogs and bird hunting in these podcasts. Jennifer is the perfect host in getting him to share the depth of his knowledge and experience with us. I can’t wait for the next one. Great work all around.
-
horseitup! Not a hunter- still love itI don’t hunt, but this is such a cool podcast to hear about the history of different breeds. Super interesting to hear the historical accounts and the interrelationships between different breeds.

Acker152Fun showWell done!
-
brew_city_blue_houndsTerrible - definitely not subject matter expertsYour episodes on scent hounds, lurchers and long dogs are dumpster fires. I will not listen to an ounce more. You are terribly uninformed, uneducated and not experts on those types of dogs. Sounds like you read something on the internet and then did a horrible podcast. How about you HAD ACTUAL EXPERTS in those breeds and hunts on? Have you ever even been to a bear or coon tree? Seen a course for jackrabbit? Hilarious.

weber river fishermanI’ve never heardSomeone who knows as much about dogs.

Cabo StanIntelligent and Well ResearchedNow one of my favorite podcasts and I listen to a lot of different ones. Very intelligent and well researched with lots of inspiring information about “man’s best friend”. And with really smart and knowledgeable guests. Highly, highly recommended…especially if you are a dog lover and even more so if you want to learn more about sporting and working breeds. Wonderful. Love it!

ATuortoTop Flight PodcastJust finished the Terrier episode, my first, and was very impressed. Attention was paid to each working breed with clear and concise discussions about terrier hunting origins. I thought the piece on the Jagdterrier was particularly well done. Much like the Jagdterrier anomaly, both soft and hard-mouthed (maybe), this podcast combines hardcore dog talk with a gentle and even relaxing touch. Couldn’t recommend more! Please keep up the good work!
-
Jmoney1honeyGreat showCool show and such a change of pace from most hunting related podcasts. Looking/hoping for a show or shows about history of each setter.

Yorkfaas5 Stars Hands DownIf you enjoy researching dog breeds and understanding the history, this is the podcast! When I was younger I memorized a couple dog encyclopedias, I knew every breed in the books and their descriptions. I was a little obsessed! Now that I am in my late 20’s listening to this podcast brings be back and makes my understanding of dogs even better. I have really been enjoying it! Thank you Jennifer, Craig, & Project Upland! This is 🔥

EdKodyPodencosTook y’all’s advice and watched some podenco videos. Awesome stuff the bounded reminded me of when my springer would get turned around in tall grass and spring up and down looking for me. Pretty pups.

cocoflintaA request about MünsterlandersI love your podcast and I never knew that dogs had so much history.(I loved the one with the Münsterlander, because I have a kleine Münsterlander named flinty, but can you do a podcast dedicated to Münsterlanders?
-
dguyzEducational podcast with great qualityI’ve really enjoyed this podcast and the in-depth history review and education I’ve received from Craig and Jennifer. Really can’t wait for the new magazine and will definitely be getting your book! Curious on upcoming shows of you will ever touch in some of smaller breeds like teckels or jagdterriers.

MachborzoiAbsolutely wonderfulThis is easily my favorite dog podcast. I’ve been a constant student of dog related knowledge for about 20 years and it’s very rare I find a source where I’m constantly learning new information, but this podcast has so many wonderful gems. Even though the host’s book is mentioned often, it never feels like he is trying to sell it to the audience or teasing about what information is within it. That said, I absolutely must purchase it!! This is podcast is truly a treasure within the dog community, especially for those interested in the sporting breeds.
-
Earth's EndFascinating!!If you love hunting dogs, or just dogs, or even just hunting, you need to listen to this podcast.

1bervinHunting Dog Confidential- Breed Origin SeriesBy far the most accurate and practical explanation of pointing dog origins I’ve heard. Craig breaks down each breed by region and expertly weaves together history and tradition while explaining what he learned about these dogs by actually traveling to the areas they come from. I really enjoyed the series especially as it relates to how dogs were developed to mirror the people and history happening in the regions around them. Awesome podcast!
-
rgebhartBreed origins seriesGreat information! Very well done, thoroughly enjoyed the series. I have often wondered about “Setter” and now I know! Thanks again, keep them coming.

Robb MooreWorthy of multiple listensWith an hour-plus commute 2-3 days a week, I listen to a fair amount of podcasts. While I’ve enjoyed several others immensely, I’ve never before now gone back to listen to podcast episodes multiple times - both to scratch the itch while waiting for new episodes and to further digest the rich material presented in each episode. Jennifer and Craig make a great team, structuring the series, asking great questions, and drawing on a wealth of sources to fill out for listeners the complex history and rich and varied cultural contributions that bestowed on us the wonderful array of highly-bred gun dogs available for us to enjoy today. Bravo and please keep these coming! My commute is 100x more enjoyable and educationally effective because of them.
-
Joe KabetogamaGreat Podcast!A very descriptive podcast about hunting dogs that dives deep into the history and traits of the different breeds. This has become one of my overall top podcasts and you will likely want to listen to each episode 2-3 times due to the content. This podcast will leave you waiting anxiously for the next episode to be released! Thanks to Craig and Jennifer for all of your time and effort!

Butchcassidy7Thoroughly EnjoyableI am thoroughly enjoying this podcast. Jennifer Wapinski knows how to ask good questions and guide a good interview. Craig Koshyk gives knowledgeable and enthusiastic deep dives into the history of gundogs, the ins and outs of what makes them tick, and a worldwide perspective on the joy of hunting with our best friends. The recent revelation of the terms for French pointing dogs was fascinating. I won’t give it away and I can’t spell some of it, so, listen to the podcast and enjoy.

Hunt*Fish*EatIncredibleI have scoured Craig’s book for a few years and heard him at the NAVHDA Annual Meeting and when I found out that he was doing a podcast with the Project Upland people, I couldn’t sign up fast enough. I didn’t know Jennifer but from the first episode, she seems knowledgeable and articulate. Cannot wait for the next episode.

EbvondGreat information!I just finished listening, as a owner and breeder of Braque Francais, it was great to hear more detailed information of hunting and how the breeds came about in different regions. I look forward to future episodes, and learning new information.

bird hunter and bird dogsRefreshing new format! This is a great shift from conversational podcasts and into more specific content driven reporting. The history is mind blowing and I cannot wait to hear more of this series! The knowledge and credibility is impressive to say the least. There is no doubt that Craig is a true historian on the history of hunting dogs. Project Upland raised the bar once again!
