This podcast has potential, for sure. However, holy cow, Michael doesn’t let his wife Jessica get a full sentence out without talking over her, doesn’t laugh at her jokes, talks down on her intelligence, and completely ignores her takes and thoughts on the show. Like for instance she wants to talk about how feminism impacts the show, how she views Laura Palmer’s suffering, and he just completely shoots down what she says and disregards it. This is a woman who doesn’t like it as much as he does, but is committing to watching and trying to interpret and understand it, and he doesn’t respect that at all. Unrelated but she deserves better, I honestly hope she leaves him. I’d still say overall not the worst podcast on Twin Peaks- but if you like women and don’t like when men constantly talk over their voices, then I wouldn’t recommend listening to this show.

Jess is so much fun, and Mikey has a lot of knowledge but… he interrupts her… incorrectly mansplains things to her… ices her out if she embarks on a feminist topic… refuses to laugh at her jokes… He keeps referring to Andy as “a cop” and how he barely serves “the force.” It’s a sheriff’s department. He’s a sheriff’s deputy. This is not a police force. And you claim to know this show. I’m trying to power through and I hope it gets better. If not, you deserve better treatment, girl. —— Nope. You cannot find a moment (other than her reading the descriptions) where he is not talking over her. He even interrupts her as she’s trying to say of Lucy, “They let her finish,” and he does not see the irony. It’s… ugh. Someone please punch this man.

This is the only thing that's motivated me to watch Twin Peaks (or anything currently). I usually don't listen to movie or TV discussions although I hear Helen Zaltzman (The Allusionist, Helen and Olly (Answer Me This), frequent guest on The Bugle) does one that's far better than watching the actual show. I have fuzzy plans to listen to it since I'm a fan of Helen's. I love the chemistry Jess and Hemant have on The Friendly Atheist; no surprise Jess and Mikey have good chemistry here since they're married.

When I heard that one of my favorite podcast hosts (Jessica of “The Friendly Atheist Podcast”) was starting a new show about one of my favorite television shows of all time, it sounded too good to be true. Thankfully, episode one totally delivered! Jess’s great on-air personality and ability to contextualize so well for the audience combined with Mikey’s deep well of Lynch-knowledge and film knowledge makes for a great listen. A high recommend for Twin Peaks fans of all levels.
