The best comic book podcast ever created!
Rob, thank you for the positivity and support for all comic books in general! This love letter to the comics industry is inspiring and made me run out and buy some of the books or titles I may have overlooked and it has lit the fire under my obsession for comics again. My first tattoo will now be the Liefeld chisel! Your story is inspiring and should compel anyone listening to follow their dreams. Thank you thank you thank you! -Mike

    Breathtakingly honest
I was there in 1992 when Youngblood first hit the comic stands. What an era that was. All of my favorite artist from Marvel had all decided to form their own company because they were underrepresented and under paid, considering they were the reason we bought the books in the first place. For the artwork and creative layouts and stories that would unfold as a result of their visual storytelling. I was a bit dyslexic in middle school and sometimes understanding what I was reading in my school books was hard to comprehend. Comics helped me with my correlation to the words within the word bubbles to the content on the pages. They helped me go from 7th grade being a C student to Honor Role in 8th grade. 7th grade was when I received my first comic from a classmate who wanted 50 cents for a giant cookie in the cafeteria. So for 50 cents he gave me his X-Factor comic with Madelyn Pryor and The Reavers and Marc Silversti pencils. I was blown away with comics from that day going forward. In 1992 I bought 3 copies of Youngblood issue 1 first printing at my local Vintage Stock comic store in Tulsa, Okla. and 3 copies of each of the following 7 issues after that. I love that Rob has so much history and has made history with his entry into comics at 18 years old and on. He has no problem telling us as the audience how things truly unfold in the industry and Hollywood as a whole. He doesn’t mince words and he means everything he says. Not from a bitter standpoint, but from an open one. He doesn’t hide his family dynamics or his career or bad blood (pun) with other creatives both past, and present. I didn’t find this podcast until the most recent 10 episodes and I’m so happy that I can go back to the beginning and have multiple hours of comic book history to geek out to and to release those nostalgic pheromones on. Thank you from every region of my heart Rob Liefeld. You’ve inspired me to finish my script for a world I’ve created to one day see on the big screen. Your families love for movies is the same love and passion I share for movies. They should be enjoyed in theaters. Kudos brotha on all of your successes.

    Often Excellent
Rob is one of the most impassioned advocates for learning comics history. He’s become the best ambassador-at-large for comics since Stan Lee. It’s for that reason I’m so disappointed at his affiliation with and promotion of Bolerjack’s exploitative documentary seeking to make financial gain from material that could have truly benefited Stan during his life. This has caused me to reconsider my review of the podcast.

    Must listen comic book history
I found the podcast shortly after finding a treasure trove of my late 80s and early 90s comics. Rob’s passion has reignited my own for comic books, and I have since become an avid reader and collector. His encyclopedic knowledge of the books and artists and insider view into the industry has made me appreciate comics so much more. In time to come, if not already, we’ll view Robservations as the seminal recounting of the history of comics and a celebration of creators.

It would be cool if you would do a one on one interview with Marc Silvestri since you compliment his art style so much.

Rob, I’m alway excited to get a new episode. Thanks for the show. My friends and I have been going as early as possible to every MCU release. Rob you are like the preacher who makes me feel bad about what I did Saturday night when I’m in service early Sunday morning. You speak the Truth no matter what! I struggle to come up with what’s good about the last 5 MCU moves. They were bangers but now it’s like I hope it’s just a good movie. I just saw Captain America 4. It was ok. It should have been a lot better. I hope the fantastic four is good. I love how your still a fan of marvel and the movies even after they treated you so disrespectfully at Deadpool /wolverine premier.. Thanks again! Big Fan always. Please tell Dave, I said hi. I have a lot to catch up on!
Just discovered this podcast exists, and after listening to a handful of episodes I can say this has already exponentially increased my knowledge and renews my enthusiasm for reading comic books. Highly recommended.

From Spinner Racks to Legendary Message Boards
Rob these past 2 episodes on how you were treated by Marvel was disheartening and downright disgraceful. Next to Kirby nobody has achieved or created timeless characters that have just enough relevance now ad they did when you first created them 3 and half decades ago. I don’t Maverick ever landed the plane as Nathan and company has done and continues to do so. With all the mistreating and rewriting of the history you contributed to the house of ideas you stand tall, bright outlook and as always march to your own beat and pathway that many inspires for a fraction of what you have done in your 5 decades career. I believe things happen for a reason. Good, bad or indifferent there’s reasons to be. And this is your time to show and remind the world just how might and important the Extreme Universe is!! Us from the old message boards are fired up for what you have in store. We knew it way back when and we continue to know it now more than ever. From all of us from the boards we thank you for what you given to us and what is in store. 2025 is the year of Extreme and as always we will be there with our support and admiration. Godbless and continue to inspire and motivate. Sean from JerZ

What it means to be a creator
One of the best podcasts I’ve ever heard. Consistently engaging, funny, insightful, surprising, and even occasionally heartbreaking. Any comic fan of the early 90s will delight in Rob’s endless anecdotes and secret origin stories of comic book creators, publishers, and storylines. But even if you’ve never opened up a comic book, this show is the single best example I’ve heard of putting on display the highs and lows of what it means to be a creator. The challenges, frustrations, and pitfalls of creating for an often-critical audience, working with giant erratic companies, but never giving up in spite of all the setbacks. Robservations is a universally-appealing audio series from a charismatic, family-focused, positive-minded host (who also does a spot-on Todd McFarlane impression). Here’s to another 5 years (and more) of one of the best podcasts out there. Thanks, Rob!

    SHOCKING!!!
It’s heartbreaking to see how Marvel has treated Rob. He made them a billion dollars with his creation. One of the very few character not created by Stan & Jack to have true success in Hollywood. Yet, somehow instead of gratitude he is greater with disrespect and an attempt to embarrass him in front of his family. I guess Rob stands with a long list of creators who Marvel has treated this way. But it’s still shocking that things haven’t improved over the generations.

Every Cloud Has A Silver Liefeld
I’ve only recently started listening to Rob’s podcasts, after having visited his WhatNot show. He’s definitely the coolest Gen X-Man anyone could get to know. Not only is he gifted with drawing skills he has been honing from childhood, that brought him immense fortune and fame into adulthood, (and I use the term lightly 😉) but he is also fun and personable and always wants to see people do their best and succeed at what they love. I think what I like most about Rob is his genuinely positive affection toward other human beings and his huge, childlike soul and imagination that never ceases to amaze especially when he puts pen to paper. That is when I am continually blown away. I look forward to hearing the upbeat tone of Rob’s enthusiastic voice every time he shares his passion for comic books and the craft he excels at. He is a true inspiration to all of us, illustrators and adult kids alike, who can’t stop reading the comics. 🩷 Love For Good!

    Million dollar pages
Another great podcast. I could not have been more excited to see the new mutants page go for the price that it did! So excited for you. What an incredible auction that was. The bronco has been bucking for 40 years in the comic book industry, with more to come… incredible! Since Stan Lee’s passing, you are the number one ambassador for comic books. Keep up the great work. Stockbroker_Bill.

Robservations is a Dream Come True!
What can I even say that hasn’t been said? I’ve been a fan since New Mutants 87 and just last night picked up my copies of Last Blood 1 and 2. This podcast isn’t just about the comics, it’s about being able to relive these amazing moments in history with access we don’t tend to have. Rob is pulling back all of the curtains and giving us what we want to hear, and I can’t express how entertained I am listening to every word. Keep it up, man. YOUNGBLOOD 2025!

    Excelsior!!
WOW! What can I say other than EXCELSIOR! Man what a treat, five star all the way! Not only is this the number one comic book podcast, in my opinion, its the number one podcast, period! Rob Liefeld truly knows comics, he knows the business and his knowledge of such is just tremendous! Grew up with Rob and comics and he is a true inspiration to me, his art and characters inspired me to pick up a pencil and start drawing at a young age, can’t thank him enough for his hard work and dedication to the world of comics! Not only does he know what he is talking about, he is funny as all get out! His Todd Mcfarlane impression sounds more like Todd than Todd himself!! Keep it up Rob, listener for life!

    Thank you!
I just wanted to say thank you. I was born in 81 and have been a fan of your work since I was a kid. Cable has always been my favorite comic character. This year has been one of the most trying of my life. My wife is currently battling cancer. Your comics and this podcast have been a nice escape for me (as you mention at the end of each podcast). It’s helped me cope with all the craziness of life. Thank you for your creations and love for comics! Thank you for this podcast! God bless you and your family.

    My New Favorite Podcast
I only recently found out about Rob’s podcast and have been diving in. As a kid who fell in love with comic books at the end of the 1980s and became a super fan in the early 90s with the X-books and Image Comics, this podcast has been a breath of fresh air. Not only does it take me back to my time loving comics in the 90s but Rob reveals behind-the-scenes stories, controversies, and details I had never heard before. Rob’s passion and excitement are contagious, and I’m loving every minute of it. Thank you, Rob!

    Liefeld delivers!!
Much like his pen and ink creations have brought me hours of enjoyment, I was delighted to find this podcast, and it lives up to Mr. Liefeld’s standards in every way! Being a lifelong comic book collector, hearing backstory and insight from behind the curtain is always appreciated, and Mr. Liefeld does that and so much more ! With inside info on the past , present and future of that sweetest of pastimes...Comics fans rejoice-this is 1000% worth your attention!

    Love me some Liefeld goodness
I’ve been listening to the show for the better part of two years, it’s the show that pushes me to go to my local comic book stores, flip through the back issues to find your Marvel, and Extreme work. The history that you share has opened my eyes so much, I’m only 24 years old, but I’ve been into comics since I was 11. Thanks for being awesome and supportive of your fans -Gabriel Piper insta @gabejp

Amazing Show for so Many Reasons Beyond Comics!
First. I do not listen to podcasts of any kind. I’ve tried from time to time but they just aren’t for me. That truth now comes with one exception. I listen to Robservations now. I love Rob’s excitement, perspective, and passion for the comics! And love hearing the inside stories. Although I’ve collected comics for more than 30 years, over the past few years, I haven’t been collecting or reading as much. Rob’s excitement about comics has contagiously transmitted through the airwaves and I’m getting back into the books I love! Recently, Rob did an episode about Ed Piskor. Rob’s heart came through on that episode. His transparency and honesty were powerful. It was undeniable that Rob not only cared for Ed and his struggles but he also cares deeply about his listeners and their struggles as well! Rob, thanks for doing the show. Thank you even more for your caring heart. I know your dad was a minister and while you may not be behind a pulpit every Sunday, I can confidently say that your show has aspects of ministry in it. The show continues to minister to me regularly. Thank you for that.

Your tribute episode is devastatingly beautiful.

    RE: Ed Piskor tribute
This is not a review. This is a message to the compassionate, beautiful human being that is Rob Liefeld. Rob: You did not just scream into “the void”. You were heard. I heard you. I heard you all the way from the northern suburbs of St. Paul, Minnesota. And I made sure my wife heard you. And my 14-year-old son. And my 11-year-old daughter. And—hopefully—onward from there. I was sobbing alongside you in my kitchen while listening to your pleas to humanity to do better. To be better. Thank you for sharing your rawness. Your compassion. Your empathy. Your gratitude. Your unabashed sense of joy and positivity. Your humanity. (And I know I’m not the only person who feels this way.) Sending you nothing but good vibes, love, and a big hug. And hopefully a little healing. To echo back to you: I’m rooting for you! I’m for you, man! I hope you take some time this weekend to relax and be with your wife and kids. Enjoy one of those big Reese’s peanut butter cups! Read a stack of your favorite comics! Watch one of your favorite movies! Whatever you need to do to recharge! I hope I get to meet you someday (maybe at a con) and get to shake your hand and tell you, “Above all else, I’m a fan of Rob Liefeld the person. The human being.” Love and respect— A. Richardson

    The Mensch with a Mouth
I’ve been a fan of Rob Liefeld’s since buying X-Force #1 when I was about 13 or so. Not only did his art thrill me but his enthusiasm for comics excited me. I read an interview of Comics Scene magazine with some strange characters on the cover. I could tell Liefeld was the artist, but who were these characters? They were Youngblood, and inside the magazine, Liefeld whipped me up into a frenzy with his plans for this new phenomenon. The interview had such an impact on me that I rebought the issue a few years ago just to read it again. This podcast is that interview but better. I’ve been wanting to express my appreciation for this podcast for awhile, and his latest episode memorializing the great Ed Piskor finally moved me to say something positive. “Uncle” Rob spoke to the broken hearts of Piskor’s fans when few others would and unlike anyone else could. I never thought I’d cry during a Robservations episode. But I did and it helped ease the pain. Rob Liefeld not only has the gift of gab, but he’s a real mensch too. The mensch with a mouth.

Thank You For Ed Piskor Tribute
Rob, Your show is a regular part of my mental, spiritual and creative nourishment. I’m a 90s kid, so your work has always been a part of my imaginative landscape. What you and your colleagues accomplished with Image Comics sparked my creative fire and continues to fuel it. But Rob, I’ve never been a bigger fan of yours than I am now as a regular listener of Robservations. Thank you for the joy and perspective that you bring into my life on a regular basis. And, most of all, thank you for your sincere and powerful tribute to Ed Piskor. Thank you. THANK YOU! I cried the entire time. Especially at the end when I had to sit down to process some emotions. I’ve been coping with Ed’s loss the last week while dealing with all of the usual struggles of life that you’re always sure to mention. Cartoonist Kayfabe was another of my regular sources of creative and spiritual nourishment. Your deeply emotional homage to Ed and his work was a perfect rendering of my own feelings of grief. There’s a big hole in all our lives, but at least we have each other to fill it. One last time, thank you Uncle Rob! Please keep your Robservations coming. - Len Kody

    If You Only Knew
I’ve been a fan of Rob’s since I was 12, I’ll be 44 this year. The last 6 months of my life have been exceedingly difficult due to a divorce I am going through. I have been in some of the darkest corners of my own head and heart. Rob’s sincere reaching out at the end of this episode have touched my heart. Too many moments than I care to recount have I considered taking my own life…..You are not your worst day will echo in my head. Thank you Rob

Robservations is fresh, fun, and most of all, factual!
Incoming Fax: Hey Bud, greetings from Oakland, CA! I mention this because before listening to Robservations, I had no idea that Rob was discovered at the Oakland Comic-Con back in the day. Little tidbits like this is why I keep coming back to this podcast. Robservations is the ultimate backstage pass to the underbelly of comic book and pop culture industry and history. Rob speaks to topics that always start from the perspective of a fan first, industry insider second. Because I was only 10 years old when I started reading comics in the early 90’s, I was only aware of what was happening IN COMICS. But after listening to Robservations, it’s amazing how much was happening AROUND the comics industry. If you’re a fan of comics, toys, TV, movies, and pop culture, you’ll be delighted to add Robservations to your playlist. If you’re not into comics, you’ll find something of value in the 300+ episode library. Rob’s perspective is fresh, fun, and most of all, factual (he brings the receipts every time). Seriously though, when are we going to get “The L Boys” streaming show? I need that ASAP! And yes, Rob’s impression of Todd is worth the price of admission alone. Thanks for jumping on the mic each time and sharing your vast experiences, industry knowledge, and some drama with your fans. Hope to see you at one last Oakland (or Bay Area) convention in the future. Cheers!

Just found your podcast and loving it!!!
Rob, I grew up with your art, with your comics! What you and team were doing to form Image comics made it to the east coast during my formative comic book years. I recently found your podcast, after a long hiatus from comic books (work related), and it has rekindled my love and interest in comics. I thought I knew a fraction of comics, but I am continually learning more and more about artists/writers/pencilers/inkers/feuds/you name it! I especially like your hidden gems segments and find them very insightful. All of this is coming at a time when my son is becoming a little person, with his unique mannerisms, thoughts, feelings and opinions (you know how that is). He artistically inclined and is learning to read, so this is perfect timing to begin laying the comic book foundation of his life🙂. We are reading comics, going to our LCS and ending each week by watching a comic book/comic book inspired movie after my wife and daughter go up to bed. He loves Spiderman and Wolverine, of course. But last weekend when we were discussing what to watch, Deadpool was brought up, which prompted my wife to yell downstairs “you two better not watch Deadpool”…..This brought about smirks on our faces. We both said in whispers to each other “we’re watching Deadpool”, and I have been in trouble all week. lol. A moment that was totally worth it, and not possible with you buddy! Thanks again for creating a fun and informative environment.

A Superhero for the Superhero fan
I am out on maternity leave with my first child and Robservations has been my go-to entertainment during late night bottle sessions. It has been great listening to the passion Rob pours out into each episode. Each episode is meticulously crafted and detailed and it’s inspiring and refreshing to hear all at once. I particularly enjoyed the 350th episodes which included an in-depth look into the X-Men Animated Series that I grew up watching. The animated series was everything to me at that time and it started my love for everything X-Men. I look forward to future new episodes and will be exploring the backlog of episodes. Just wanted to say thank you for your passion and the inspiring words you leave us with.

Hey Mr Liefeld! Delighted to have discovered your excellent podcast, and your knowledge and passion of one of my 3 great loves on this godforsaken mudball called earth (comics along with hard rock music and pro wrestling) quickly made your podcast a weekly staple for me! Now full disclosure, I first stopped reading comics in 1991, after feeling a bit taken advantage of by Marvel first releasing X Force # 1 with 5 variant cards, and by the time Jim Lee’s X Men # 1 dropped I only made it through 2 cover variants then fell off in all honesty, but listening to your podcast opened up many other doors I passed by. I had never even heard of American Flagg for instance. Anyhow, 5 big stars for you my friend, please keep it going! Matty D from Pacific Beach

5 star review - the sequel
What I love about this week’s episode is it is such a great example on how Rob can tell a very personal story framed within the context of comic book history. Truly speaks to his talents as a storyteller. Forgive me for sharing, but Rob speaks about the Bicentennial so frequently, Id think he’d enjoy my debut novel- Brooklyn ‘76, about an Italian-American family’s struggles and misadventures in the Bicentennial. Ive also been curating Bicentennial memorabilia as a companion on my webpage anthonyausiello.com. I’d love to forward Rob an advance copy or ebook if interested. I think he’s enjoy it. Again, love the podcast - anthony

    A selfish indulgence - an inter-generational portal
Listening to Rob is literally a selfish indulgence for me. The inspirational era and influences Rob speaks of with such passion and insight are the same stories and artists that resonated with my youth. One of the most enjoyable aspects of listening is hearing the cultural context these comics were released in - what was happening on television, in film, in society as a whole. Comics reflect so much of our society and those aspects of the art form are too often overlooked. Rob paints those pictures, and as a 59 year old man, his history and context resonate with me. Beyond that selfish indulgence is this inter-generational portal that Rob provides. My two adult sons were exposed to comics through my love of them - but it would be Rob’s characters that would inspire THEM - and now we all listen to Robservations - from our various residences across two states - and text and call about the episodes - and often get to dive deeper into our respective experiences and inspirations - “do you remember when this happened? Did you have a copy of that? I didn’t know you ever followed that character/artist/writer…” So…my gratitude for Robservations. My gratitude for the work you do, and the passion you exude as you do that work. These platforms are often used for negative and critical efforts - I am grateful you sow the seeds of positivity and encouragement you do. My sons and I will continue to enjoy your Robservations - as long as you are willing to share them!

    My Fave Podcast
Love Robservations. Rob is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable host and lays down the knowledge of the comics industry. Not just about the time that he spent in the industry, but also he brings the history and obscura of comics to life. As I have been a comics fan and have been able to fully fund my comics habit since the early 90s, right at the time that Rob and Co left Marvel to found Image, these podcasts are occassionally a blissful trip down memory lane, and more often, an insight into issues and artists I am not familiar with but need to be. Rob is a great guy and loves his fans and it shows! Give him a chance and he will inspire you to find or rekindle your love of comics.

    Fun Listen
Unlike so many of the listeners to the podcast I have not really followed Rob’s work either his Marvel work or Image work. But I get a kick listening to his stories about his stories making and reading comics. What I find refreshing is Rob’s positivity on his show. In a time when everyone goes online to complain about the shows, movies, music, or comics they read or watch, it is refreshing to listen to someone who enjoys what he reads and does not go out his his way to bad mouth or complain about the stuff he doesn’t like. Even if I don’t see eye to eye on Rob’s take on something he’s still great to listen to with fascinating insights into the comics industry, and makes me want to read the comics he’s made.
