Heavy Things Lightly

53

This “Enlightened” New World utopia isn’t turning out to be all it was cracked up to be. Society is disenchanting, but are the only alternatives hiding out in the hills or burying yourself in books? With an air of levity and a touch of humor, John Heers teaches how to examine the confusing New World by calling upon the mind and wisdom of oft-forgotten Old. Heavy Things, Lightly.

    Love this show
John is a great conversationalist and most importantly is curious about the important things. A great listen.

    Sorely needed
Why do I have a huge smile on my face and a twinkle in my eye as I walk down the street in the joyless wastelands of suburban New Jersey? That’s right, it’s because Im listening to WATAR. In this podcast, John Heers consistently finds new ways to remind us listeners that we are much more than our minds would have us think. Do yourself a favor and reinvigorate your heart with a periodic dose of honest, authentic, and sorely needed talk.

    A fresh perspective
John never fails to breathe life into old conundrums with his Old World/New World lenses. This show has helped me cultivate a deeper respect for the myriad other ways that humans have been thinking throughout history (and today). He definitely has a heart for all people, and it comes through in his conversations on the show.

    Favorite Podcast
This podcast knocks my socks off. I love listening to John talk about heavy things lightly and his playful attitude towards new ideas gives me access to a powerful new perspective. The guests on this podcast are awesome for Christian folk - Pageau, the Russian author of Laurus, and the field workers of FTF have great insights. Episodes spent discussing Dostoevsky are nicely interwoven with appearances from a contemporary Raskolnikov-like thinker, Uncle Seth.

    Awesome Podcast!!
What is so enlightening is the fact you have completely different views on many subjects with some guests (Uncle Seth for one) and you have civilized conversation about your differences and still have love and respect for each other no matter. This is gold and is a great example of a better today! Well done and well worth a listen !

    Kingdom perspective
I’ve heard people talk a lot about bringing a kingdom perspective to politics. I know very few people that are able to do it and sadly none of them are Americans. I’m just starting with this podcast but is a banger

Great pod! Much to ponder on after each listen.
John Heers takes the listener on a comparative journey of two approaches to a topic everyone encounters. John uses his experience travelling to, what "Light People" or enlightenment people, would call 3rd world countries, philosophy, theology and the art of asking questions to compare the old world way of thinking vs this current new way (new since the enlightenment). You will learn something with each episode. You will be challenged. For fans of symbolic thinking, ancient wisdom and humor (we're talking about heavy things.... lightly).

    Check this out NPR fans!
It’s smart and thoughtful, while uniquely going further, by connecting to John’s expansive knowledge of history in a fun and provocative way. I am a self-professed podcast snob and this is a gem.

One of the best podcasts ever
This is one of the best podcasts ever. It is a must listen for anybody who wants to make sense of the world we are living in. I enjoy listening to it. By the way, I come from the Old World. Great job and well done John Heers!

    Easily my favorite podcast
Every single episode I walk away feeling like my worldview just expanded and I’m permanently seeing everything around me through a different lens, making different decisions, and prioritizing different values. If you’re anything like me, you’ll be shocked at how this podcast impacts you

    Words of hope and wisdom
Heers is a voice of wisdom and truth. He is a great individual and his foundation (FTF) is doing great things around the world. He’s in my podcast repertoire alongside Jordan Peterson, Jonathan Pageau, and Bishop Barron.

    Clarifying in modern day
John’s readership and intellect ring true as he walks you through his own journey towards a return to the heart. This one will take some vulnerability, and it will be worth it. This, all coming from a scientist doing a PhD as I write this...

    Worth your time
This guy talks about “heavy things lightly”. Heers has been thinking A LOT about those questions that we hide in the closet. Very refreshing, very academic, very honest.

    Aha Moments Abound
This is a smart take on how we got to where we are. Why has no one told me this stuff until now? What does it mean to be human, what’s our end purpose? Listeners will find that those questions sure as heck can’t be answered only through a lens of modernity. Highly recommend.
