Widow 180 The Podcast with Jen Zwinck

25

When you become a widow, the heartache can be overwhelming. You feel lost. You feel broken. You feel alone. And you find yourself trying to pick up the pieces of your life and function. But I believe that every widow has the capacity to endure, that every widow has the power to overcome and the determination to create a new life filled with meaning and purpose. The Widow 180 Podcast is about turning tragedy, loss and fear into strength and creativity and a new passion for life. It's about self-reflection and realizing that we only have this one precious life to live and that a new life and a new you is achievable. Each week I will be interviewing widows, incredible survivors of loss. These women have taken the lessons they've learned and the insights they've gained and used them to grow and transform themselves. Some have started businesses, went back to school, run marathons, lost 100 pounds, and moved across the world! They made a choice not to be held down. How did they do it? How did they get through their grief? What's their secret? What lessons can we learn from them that will transform our own lives? How can we write our own story because our story isn't over yet? How can we begin our Chapter 2? I hope that you are as inspired by these women as I am. And maybe hearing even just one story will be life-changing for you.

    Thank you!
Jen, thank you so much for this podcast. I lost my husband of 29 years 2.5 months ago. I started listening 4 months ago while he was sick knowing I was a widow in waiting. He suffered from an extremely rare neurological disease for 3 years. The comfort and knowledge shared here has been indispensable and has brought hope and light in the midst of so much pain to me.

    Hope for healing
This podcast has been my salvation through my first year. I have just started my second year and I have to say the finality and realization that I’m never having my old life back is just unbearable some days. My heart just feels so heavy and picturing 20 to 30 years of living without Ed is just a nightmare. The flashbacks of his final days are haunting. I do find comfort listening to the podcast. I’m considering joining the group, although at 65 I may be a more “senior” member. Thank you for sharing your experience and guidance.

    WONDERFUL EPISODES, IMPORTANT LESSONS!
Only in a handful of episodes and I’ve walked away with valuable lessons, ah-ha moments, and feeling like I’m among friends. Although I’m a widower, a friend – Leo of One Happy Widow – was on Episode 72, I enjoyed the format and Jen’s ability to dig deep to reveal thoughtful moments. Since the loss of my wife, July 2020 after a 3 1/2 year battle with breast cancer, I’ve felt that grief and all that goes with it should be more common and better understood. When I was younger, grief and loss was a two week session of family gatherings, well wishes, and back to normal. But grief is so much more than that and Jen, with her well-chosen guests, are thankfully changing how it’s approached, understood, and lived. Well done, Jen, and thank you for providing this much needed resource!

    Widow who lost everything
I just recently started listening to your podcast. And I really enjoy all the stories. One thing that I wish is to hear about the financial hardship that many widows go through. My husband passed away a little over 3 years ago. It’s been so difficult, married for 33 years and after he died. I lost everything that we worked so hard for all our lives. Thanks for all these inspiring yet sad stories Joanie

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Jennifer. You are doing such wonderful work. Thanks, also to the amazing and inspiring women you interview.

Helpful when I needed it Most
I found Jen’s podcast within my first month of becoming a widow. I knew so few “young” widows, and was hungry to hear how others dealt with all sorts of things. At the time (especially since my husband’s death was so unexpected) podcasts were so much easier than actual conversations might have been. One of the things I appreciate the most about Jen’s way of setting up Widow180: All the stories (and the Widows) are so different. But there’s always something that speaks to me in each story. The podcast is uplifting without being “unrelatably” positive. Real stories, real people, real healing and progress. Well Done, Jen. I’m grateful for the time (and work) you put in.
