    Wanted to love it
I find the actual content and overall story itself very fascinating, so imagine my disappointment when I was unable to even finish it because of the AWFUL structure used to tell the story. It’s all over the place and not an easy listen at all.

Great story, but not all is told!!
After beginning your podcast, I looked up YouTube and started watching other stuff on the BBC and you start off with this Ron Levin being murdered or missing, but what you don’t tell is how Ron Levin played the BBC and a scammed the scammers, which would lead to his death!!

    Cringe
This podcast ( or should I say “radioplay”?) is so cringe I couldn’t finish the first episode. The reimagined scenes are so cliché and hokey that I feel embarrassed for the writers. With so many excellent reported podcasts around, I won’t waste my time on this. Pity. It seemed like a promising podcast with an interesting subject.

    Very well done
And shoutout to Tracy Pattin, who truly has an excellent podcast voice and elevates anything she narrates.

    Done Better
These were terrific episodes of a subject we all thought we knew well due to many movies etc about the BBC…. There is so much more to know…. Wondery is one of the finest podcasts out there.

    Complex But Worthwhile
Yeah the timeline was different, but once it’s understood that this is the storyline crafting, then it becomes a rather riveting vehicle for better grasping the full viscous nature of the main character, and the narrative arc that brought him to his destiny.

    Excellent Podcast
This was riveting!!! Very well done.

Writing is subpar, story itself is good
The pacing is pretty bad and the timeline is confusing, plus the prose can be… cringey at times (looking at you, Darwin section of castles and queens), but overall the story it itself is interesting and honestly captivating enough to be worth a listen—like reality TV, something to put on in the background to pass the time.

    It’s just so boring
I listened till halfway through the second episode. The people in the story are so vapid, their concerns so meaningless, it’s like—why should I care about any of this? And what others say about the overacting and speculation. Pass.

    bad foley artist
A good lsiten but the foley artist seemed to posses only one skill: pouring drinks into a glass. My gawd it sounds awful and they just kept doing it. So bad I had to stop the podcast to write this review.

    Timeline
The way it was laid out was very confusing. I couldn’t figure out where we were in the story.

If Joe had wanted to testify then he would have. The lawyer does not have the final say in that matter. I wonder if it would have made a difference. I agree about the narration and the flashbacks- timeline was way too confusing.

    Flow is confusing
I appreciate the story and the narrators, but the flashbacks while listening to what’s happening in real time isn’t the same as on TV and just lends to confusion. I wish they would’ve gone with the basic format.

    No journalistic merit or integrity
If you want to listen to a fictional suspense novel that’s somewhat based on true events, this is your podcast. However, it’s pretty irresponsible that the writers felt the need to inject fake dialogue into what they assume (or want listeners to believe) were the actual thoughts and conversations that took place. Wondery basically distorts two real-life murders into some type of twisted suspense soap opera simply so they can profit off people’s boredom and obsession with true crime. Wondery has absolutely no journalistic merit or integrity.

    Hard to follow
Good story but the narration is way too hard to follow. There are Way too many changes in the time period.

    Joe
If Joe Hunt went into politics “it would all be legal” Murder? Send drones, missiles, reopen federal execution, withdraw from Kurds; Greed? Change the tax code, have federal events on your own property; change regulations, fund raise off everything in sight; Cult? Convince millions to go against their own best health, economic, & cultural interests; Honesty? NEVER believe you can lose even in the face of all evidence; Some politicians get caught, but MORE get away for years. Think not this applies to just 1 political party or 1 politician. We are “lucky” Joe didn’t run for Congress, Senator, Governor.

    Way to many sponsor ads
For the most part I enjoy the show with a very big downfall way too many sponsored ad in a short period the story was being told. Unfortunately because of this I no longer listen to any from the creators.

    Riveting. And, told so we’ll.
An incredible crime story like no other.

    Good story, dramatics were unnecessary
Loved the story but the dramatics were distracting from the story. Plus, way too much editorializing of what people were thinking in certain events. They gave the POV of one guy way too many times considering he was dead and there’s no way of knowing what he was thinking. Took away from the credibility, which is hard knowing how well Wondery normally does.

    Wonderful
I feel like the use of 2 narrators helped me distinguish between past and present events. Riveting podcast

    Narration
Narration style is cringe to say the least. Not a fan
  • McSilver612
    Intriguing but jumpy
I agree with others. Having two narrators and bouncing back and forth between time points was a little confusing. The story is fascinating and well written, as most are from Wondery.

    Binge Worthy
This podcast made my drive from Georgia to Texas a lot faster recently. I wasn’t familiar with the subject matter so I really enjoyed hearing about the BBC and subsequent legal trials. I highly recommend this podcast!

    Love love love this podcast
This was great story and I’m glad I listened to it before I watched the 2018 movie because the movie made Joe seem like the “good” and Dean the sociopath which I know was changed. I recommend this podcast as well as all others from Wondery.

    A- Podcast
I give this podcast an A-. It has typical high quality Wondery narration and sound editing. It's a fascinating story too. The narrative jumps around in a way that is hard to follow, at times, as others have noticed. There is also a bit of speculation as to what people were thinking/focusing on that a pure historical retelling would be foolish to include but which I find an acceptable part of the dramatic retelling style of this type of podcast. I really liked it and have recommended to others.

    what is Wondery doing???
One by one I’m unsubscribing from all their podcasts. Someone reads a script that infers allllllllll kinds of emotions, dialogue, situations and probably even facts—who can tell? Feels silly and just became unlistenable. Unsubscribed and will continue doing so to the others that are similar—OF WHICH THERE ARE MANY!

    Terrible Format - Questionable Details
This podcast is produced in a very confusing way. One that intentionally intermingles different dates and times to make the listener conflate two different events. A chronological timeline would have made this probably a 3 star review but Wondery’s team did a terrible job with an otherwise interesting story. Also they state sometimes things that happened in 1983 that they happened in 1982 or 1984 and even in their own story in two different episodes they mix up dates when things happened. I.e they said Joe did something on the Chicago exchange one year after he’d been kicked off. I would not recommend anyone who is interested in this story to waste their time listening to this terribly lack-luster production.

    Cool story, confusing lay out
Well done over all. Can be confusing at times as the story line jumps backward and forwards in time making it hard to follow. Does a good job building characters so you feel like you really know them by the end of it.

    Long Haul Truckers Ideal Podcast!
This was a riveting story that was told in a way that draws the listener in. I could see the characters in my mind’s eye as the voices of the narrators came to embody each of the individuals involved in the story. I LOVE this type of podcast because let’s face it, long haul truck driving is boring in the extreme. This well told type of story allows my mind to stay stimulated for many hundreds of miles. This was an excellent true life story that is incredible in its facts, that gave me hundreds of very mind-stimulating miles. Well done!!!!

Like it but also hate some things
Overall this is a good podcast. I don’t like the woman’s voice. It’s a fake , overly sincere put on type. It reminds me of girls in high school who acted in a few plays and then carried their “acting” skills into their everyday life. Seems very juvenile.

    Good story
Good story but.... The storytelling was very confusing. The narrator jumps back and forth in time constantly. Someone is dead then they are in meeting. If not for this I would have given it four stars. The other thing was disappointing was the inclusion of too many details the storyteller couldn’t possibly know, like what someone was thinking. It therefore seemed like modern fiction.

Found myself distracted, sorry... it’s not like I wanted to not like it, I tried a few times and have no idea what I was listening to or where I lost it... which means it’s not interesting

    Superb!
Every one of your productions are enticing. Will you please do a series on Michael Peterson and the the staircase trial?

    It’s ok
The story is interesting but very hard to follow, jumps around a lot. If you find it hard to follow in the first episode, just quit. The whole season is this way.
  • James69-420
    Great story but horrible timeline
The timeline of the story is all over the place and hard to follow. This could have been a great podcast given how interesting the story is but the way they go back and forth from one event to another is incredibly confusing.
  • merrredith chaffin
    Great story
Liked the story, but was confused due to the timeline that was jumping back and forth way too much. It was also a bit disturbing that there were too many narrators because when I heard a different voice to start to tell the story my brain just switched off.
  • Crummy Girl
Really good but wished it was in chronological order
Really good story but was getting confused because they would go back and forth in time. Maybe it’s just me 🤣

    Transporting...
...Right back to fourth grade historical fiction. The dramatization detracts more than it adds.
  • tylerkski
Great story but jumps around too much
Well done podcast, but I have no clue why the storyline keeps jumping between a time period four years apart. I understand the jumping happens when the narrator changes but It’s really hard to follow the time period that it’s in throughout much of it.
  • Brien Elwood Washburn
    Fascinating, but poorly managed chronology
This was a fascinating series, and for the most part I really enjoyed it. I absolutely recommend it, but be prepared for a bizarre decision to jump all around the timeline without much—and mostly no—warning or indication. I really can’t understand the need for this, the story is fascinating all the way through. I’m guessing it was used to keep people engaged and listening to the end, but it really wasn’t necessary. That said, listen to the series! You won’t regret it.

Very good podcast but annoying to get to episode 6 to find it’s unavailable.

    Highly highly recommend
Seriously unbelievable production. I was stuck to my seat listening every day. I am so lucky I only found this podcast now when all six episodes were already aired because I cannot imagine waiting to hear the next one. Highly highly recommend.
