    Fun and Informative
I gain so much from listening to this podcast! I’ve had 4 family dogs as an adult and two years ago I brought home my first puppy. This time, it’s just me raising and training a dog. Marissa’s podcast reminds me to listen to my instincts and intuition. As a result, my dog and I have become a good team. Very grateful for the wisdom offered here!

    Wonderful Podcast
I've been following this podcast since its inception and it's a favorite! Marissa is knowledgable, compassionate and experienced in working with both ends of the leash. I always come away with deep insights as well as thoughtful tools to support myself and my pup. I am a better dog parent and person for listening 💜

Love the Paws & Reward podcast for so many reasons. Marissa talks about both her work with pet parents and sheltering from the heart and in a compassionate way. The relationship with my dog and myself have grown so much through the Paws & Reward podcast.

    Platforms racist ideas
The idea that “urban shelters in high crime areas” have “no good dogs” is deeply ignorant and racist. People espousing these ignorant views shouldn’t be given a platform.

    Blatant racism
Wow, the disgusting conversation in episode 66 should have never seen the light of day. So a dog is good if they come from a rural predominantly white area and bad if they live in predominantly black urban area? The host should be ashamed of having her name attached to this podcast

    Such gratitude
I’ve long been an avid lover of this podcast, and am feeling inspired to write something here after listening to the latest episode, A Tribute to Sully and a Lesson in Grief. Firstly, Marissa, my deepest, deepest condolences and I am sending both you and Sully a lot of love. Coping with the passing/transition of a dog is something where no words feel adequate, but those are some I’ll offer. I’m so grateful for the honesty, vulnerability, and complexity you’ve shared— not an easy task, I imagine. I’m also grateful for ways you’ve been expressing for a while how grief has been showing up for you while Sully aged. I have a dog--or maybe she has me— who is aging, and I have felt (and routinely feel) that pre-emptive grief that bubbles up. It’s hard to express how helpful and healing it is to feel seen and connected to others who’ve lived through this too, even if it’s across the bounds of the internet and we don’t actually know each other. Chestnut and I form a sweet little family together, and I can echo your sentiment that I’ve learned more lessons from her than can be listed. She’s around 11, has lived a hard life before the last two years since we’ve been together, and has a complex health landscape that’s more layered than a Jackson Pollock. That “not enough”-ness you describe feels resonant; it’s in the triumph of responding to that part of ourselves with love and compassion where I find hope. Whenever I worry I’m not doing enough for my canine companion, I try to circle back to the knowledge that, in being together, both of our qualities of life are so unfathomably better than they were before. She’s completely transformed my life (among the many things that she does, she helps me as someone living with C-PTSD) and I know that I’ve transformed her life as the most loving, attentive, and responsive caregiver she’s ever had. Thank you, Marissa, for what you’ve put out there; it’s an honor to get a glimpse of you and Sully’s relationship. And something I appreciate about ALL of the work that you do is your attentiveness to the *relationships* between people and dogs not as something one-sided, but as something mutual, abundant, and rich in lessons for *all* of our interpersonal relationships. I hope other people out there who can relate feel some connected-ness, too. Thank you, Marissa and thank you, Sully.

    Good company for the journey
As Marissa likes to point out, being a pet parent is amazing and can also be incredibly difficult. I’ve found this podcast to be such great company for that journey, from its compassionate approach to supporting pet parents to tactical tips for training and management. The guests are amazing, especially her conversation with Patricia McConnell. So grateful this podcast exists ❤️

    Reframing my views
I have yet to listen to every episode but totally intend to do so. So far with each episode I learn so many new ways to think about my dog and behavior. Mine. The episodes I have devoured so far (and some i need to go and relisten to) have given me a larger, calmer, realistic lens to see life with my “reactive” (and it is a negative label to me but does describe a set of behaviors) so now I just say he has opinions. Marissa’s POV is compassionate and intelligent-the scope of the show is larger than other dog podcasts I listen to and for me it is really filling a void. It’s not problem solving, mechanics, sport, cc+ds and it’s not really about fixing. Just listen!!! You will see what I am trying to get at. Love it!

    An old learner
I’m a trainer and someone who felt that they were stagnating as an individual in the last year. Through these podcasts put out by trainers bad behaviorist I have found new meaning and understanding in dog behavior. In the year 2020 when I thought my empathy had been run dry. I found this podcast and began to learn anew. Learn to trust the dogs and people who seek your knowledge and care to become better.

A must listen for anyone that lives with dogs
I wish this podcast was required listening for all dog parents. The Paws and Reward podcast is filled to the brim with helpful information for anyone that shares their life with dogs and wants to have not only a healthy and positive relationship with their dogs but with themselves in the role of dog parent as well. This podcast is like sitting down with a friend (or two) in that it is comforting and compassionate. Highly recommend!
