Movie degreeToo woke for meYou’re worried that Effie, from Maltese, is called angel and darling? You shouldn’t do these reviews if Sydney Greenstreet being called the fatman upsets you. How ridiculous to compare a 1941 film to your woke sensibility. You’ll always be disappointed, then.

TgdghuyrFun and insightful review....but....Please do not give spoilers to other films! Loved the podcast on “Vertigo,” and you state that during the pandemic you got to watch a ton of Hitchcock films. Well, I am looking forward to watching also; yet, you are dropping a bunch of spoilers on the other Hitchcock films. Had to skip through much of podcast fir thu reason but still caught some of the spoilers. The age gap adds to the film as it adds to Scotty’s obsession over a young, raw sexual goddess, further distancing him from Midge.

BmofoshoVery narrow mindedListening to the Mikey and Nicky pod, I heard the term “toxic masculinity” more times than I could count as if that’s what the film is about, and I didn’t hear the word “relationship” once. This film explores human relationships as well or better than emu film ever made - to the extent that almost everything else about it is inconsequential. You could say this is a film about toxic masculinity to about the same extent as you could say this is a film about the mafia - as I said, inconsequential. I wish this podcast were called “the critique of toxic masculinity” because this was an extremely narrow-minded take in what is a fascinating tale of two extremely complex characters with an even more intricate and compelling relationship. In fact, the relationship between every single pair of characters in this film incredible. Yet the hosts reduce it all down to ‘a film by a female director about toxic masculinity’ - when what it really is, is a film directed by a genius (notice I didn’t say female) about human relationships. I turned this podcast off with about 30 minutes to go, frustrated with the marginalization.
