molly38754DisappointedAs a future BCBA who is passionate about the community I work for and cares deeply about disabled rights and activism, I found the first part of the series responding to criticism of the field very disappointing. As a field that is founded in science and focuses constantly bettering our methodology, I found a lot of these rants to be centered in an unproductive mentalistic approach to critique that was founded more in the offense that was felt rather than thinking about tangible ways to respond to the criticism in measurable and observable ways. The field is changing for the better as new voices are centered and it is imperative that we, as BCBAs and others who work with populations with disabilities, are not reactionary but take a critical look inward as we determine ways to be better, more ethical, and more empathetic.
