    Outstanding season 3!
I found this series as I have often felt Gabby Douglas was waaayyyy underrated as a gymnast, and I wanted to listen to some old podcasts back from when she was competing. I found this instead, and I’m so glad I did. In recent years there has been much more exposure around the toxic culture of the sport, and I appreciated the focused lens this series took.

For Casual Fans. Serious Gym Fans, Look Elsewhere
Overall, the intention of this podcast was fantastic. But, there were too many easily fixed errors to ignore. It came across sloppy.

A great documentary podcast that everyone should listen to
This podcast was great!!! The episodes were informative and insightful. This shined a spotlight on many pioneers and trailblazers that people need to know about. I need this to become a full fledge documentary. As you said to Amanda Seales, I’m speaking it into existence for you.

    Compelling Story
Good first episode of American Prodigies! I know I’m going to feel a range of emotions this season, feeling joy for these women’s accomplishments and anger for the things they had to go through for being black and women. This is a story that needs to be told. I appreciate the host and athletes pulling back the curtain and shedding light on the black gymnast experience. This is going to be a season where I’m talking to my friends about each episode at the virtual water cooler. -SR

    Just keeps getting better
I loved season 1, but this new season seems like the best one yet. Really excited for the rest of it and whatever comes next!!

    Fabulous
This is an amazing story. It’s so well written, so well told and perfectly executed! I just loved it!

    Was good now terrible
Season 1 Jr and Season 2 Adu were great. The Rumor is garbage.

I love the podcast. Loved Ken Griffey.
I don’t agree with the argument taken in the fourth episode. The main reason why Ken Griffey isn’t remembered because he played in the era that baseball wants to forget. Griffey was clearly the best non pitcher from that era who didn’t take steroids. Baseball wants to sweep the individual accomplishments of the 90’s under the rug because they don’t want to get in the argument about what stats are tainted and what stats aren’t. Other stars from that era like Jeter and Mariano live on because they won World Series Championships. Unfortunately Griffey didn’t win a World Series and his individual numbers aren’t that great compared to the guys that were juicing. Had everyone been clean Griffey’s numbers would place him as the clear best non pitcher of his era.

    Taken back to the 90’s!
Absolutely mind blowing! I can taste the Pizza Hut I ate when I got the Ken Griffey Jr. home run cracking foam bat. What memories! I have set up my N64 and play regularly again after listening.

    Good Podcast but Not Great
The podcast was great but honestly, the first two episodes felt just thrown together without an end-goal in mind. I would say the real content picks up in episode three. Though KGJr never joins the podcast, it just seems to be quintessential Griffey that he didn’t. When compared to most podcasts, this was just lacking in structure and vision. It touched on Griffey some and then moves off in different directions quite often. It’s hard to figure out where the podcast is going. It’s a good listen but the podcast didn’t really have a purpose.

    My Oh My!!!
Loved the Podcast. Got Goosebumps listening to the game winning run call during the 95 NLDS. Hands down my favorite baseball moment ever. Twitter: HoosOn_First

I don’t care about kid sensation
The actual Ken Griffey Jr content probably could have been covered in one hour long pod. If there is a season 3 pick one topic and stick to it

    Suggestion for next one
I think it’d be interesting to cover Arvydas Sabonis or Brandon Roy.

    The Kid
Really have enjoyed these 5 episodes of American Prodigy: The Kid. This podcast has taken me back to my childhood and revisiting the pure admiration I had for The Kid. I tried to emulate his swing, wore my hat backwards in the cages and I always wanted his jersey (which I never got). This podcast really brought a side out of Ken I wasn’t fully aware of. Thank you to everyone involved in this project. I’ve really enjoyed listening to it on my way to and from games.

    Game changer
I definitely didn’t know that Griffey is the reason for Jackie Robinson day great pod 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

    Cheers to the kid himself!
What an amazing podcast! I grew up in the PNW and Junior still remains my favorite athlete of all time. The 90s was Griffey mania for me. I wore hightop blue Nike cleats, my hat was backwards, a gold chain never left my neck and I swung lefty with that tall stance and little waggle whenever I could. The 95 slide, the HR derby, the Spider-Man catch, his Upperdeck rookie card, Griffey baseball on SNES are a few of the many memories imprinted in my brain. He was the definition of cool. Over the years, I’ve consumed all content related to Griffey. I’ve been pretty confident that I know all the stories, however, this podcast proved me wrong! Grant and Kid Sensation’s lens on the man himself, kept me on my toes each week, waiting for the Tuesday release. I don’t know what I’ll do now, but thanks for the nostalgia guys. You made me feel like a kid again! Don’t miss this podcast! @parkerci

Griffey Forces Pitchers To See A Shrink
I was 7 years old. I’ll never forget that commercial because I didn’t know what a shrink was until then. @barackoboogie

    My, oh, my!
Thank you! Thank you guys for making this podcast. It gave me chills multiple times, and even made me ready-eyed a time or two. I was seven years old in 1995 when I fell in love with baseball thanks to “The Kid”; however, I was heartbroken, and have loved baseball a little less since the day he was traded to the Reds. It feels like you guys provided some closure with this podcast, so for that I am thankful!

Great Listen with a heavy shot of Nostalgia!
Really enjoyed Season 1 and learning the story and the trials that Freddy Adu faced but hearing Jr’s story and learning insight behind a childhood idol of mine and many like me was exceptional. As a life long Orioles fan that image of Jr hitting on of the Warehouse in Baltimore is engrained in my childhood memories, along with the countless hours mimicking his smooth left handed swing in the backyard (despite being right handed) and craving the opportunities to visit my best friend so we could battle each other on Ken Griffey Baseball on his N64. Thank you for putting this all together and stirring up a lot of fond childhood nostalgia for me in the process. Twitter: @bjunkin87

    Great Job So Far!
This past episode--What The F*** Is A Met? compelled me to write a review. As a history nerd I loved your breakdown of the relationship between the sport of baseball and the African American community. My Twitter handle is @TrickleUpKevin.

    We want The Kid
I saved my yard mowing money to buy a Mariners hat and took advantage of an opportunity to purchase his Upper Deck rookie card for $45. I consider it one of my finest investments. Spent countless hours playing the Super Nintendo video game on rainy days when I wasn’t trying to become a ball player myself... And this is coming from a hillbilly from West Virginia. I was beyond elated when I heard he was coming to my Cincinnati Reds. A lot of captivating stories I had forgotten and some I had never heard. Not too much I can think of that got left out. I hope somehow we can hear from The Kid himself before it reaches a conclusion.

    Great pod
True definition of 5 stars. Remember the Griffey Jr. candy bars at the baseball card shows in the late 80s?!?! @straightouttahp

    Disappointed
Was looking forward to hearing more about some untold Griffey stuff. Should’ve been two episodes that was dragged out and the last episode he’s mentioned for a whopping two minutes

A great series on Junior and the things affecting baseball
Grew up watching Junior and this series does a great job of intertwining Griffey, family, personal relations, and his legacy as well as what happened around the sport when he played and even now. @jeremybrahm on Twitter

    The Kid is the best
KG jr. is the man and this provides a fascinating look at not just his career, but his life off of the field and the scaffolding that made (read: makes) him so iconic. The call on Martinez’s double that scored Griffey in the 1995 ALDS always gives me chills. My IG handle is @nicholasstobbe. Keep up the great work!
  • nitemere
    Really interesting
Very good so far. One point of contention: the double in the alcs occurred in the bottom of the 11th, not the bottom of the 9th.
  • ccevans1985
    Perfect swing vs monitor
The story of Jr. hitting a playback monitor with a bat was the best Ken Griffey Jr. story I’ve ever heard. He was and still is the COOLEST athlete I’ve ever seen. Hearing about him getting so frustrated he destroyed a TV makes him so much more relatable and just makes me love him even more. Love the podcast!!

    Great sports narratives
I have really enjoyed both seasons of the show. This one is hitting hard, though, bc I’m missing my BFF who was the hugest Griffey fan and Reds fan. We drove to the first home weekend in 2000 and saw home run 399 while freezing to death. And he would have loved listening to this so much, but unexpectedly had a heart attack at 42. @carigervin and pls do Jennifer Capriati next

    American Prodigy Griffey Jr.
As a Yankee fan, refuse to lose still hunts me. Griffey was an amazing athlete, I still see him running up the wall making that catch and that swing is so sweet to watch. Keep it up Grant, good stuff. @psolly0108

    Strange
I don’t get why there is any talk of the rapper in this podcast. I was excited about Griffey and loved the Freddy Adu one but this one is a miss.

Griffey gonna take the party to another level!
I grew up in Ballard and Everett which at the time were deeply working class parts of Seattle. My dad and I had a huge love ove both Griffey and Kid Sensation. At the time I was in in Ballard. One of the earliest songs I memorized at the age of 6 was “listen to the way I swing” and my dad and I would trade verses. It’s bigger than baseball, but that was the bond that made it happen. My dad would always call me “GRIFFEY BOOTY!” when I was swinging my bat at the plate and we’d rap “Seatown Funk” together after.
  • War Eagle Beagle
Why do I care about Kid Sensation?
The Griffey stuff is alright, if not insufficient. They jam journalists in who remember Griffey as a cultural icon more than people who ever interacted with him. An early 90s rapper with 80k streams on Spotify positions himself as Griffey’s best friend & foil and it’s almost insulting. Stay away from this. Go read a book.

    Seattle’s Finest
I love this podcast! Griffey was my favorite player growing up, I continue to collect his baseball cards to this day with my four sons. Baseball and Seattle hip hop was my childhood and it was super dope coming across this. This joint was super nostalgic and took me back to some good times. Well done fellas! @jimmybible

Ken Griffey Jr is an all time great
This podcast is both timely and way way overdue, if that makes sense. As a kid, Griffey was larger than life. The video game, the commercials, the shoes...and how he played the game! So far, I’ve really enjoyed the descriptions of how Ken Griffey Jr became “The Kid” whether that’s showing how he came into his own on the field or dealing with celebrity. - @dna_logan (Twitter)

    Awesome!
Always looking for great stories and details about the athletes that elevated their sport, and this one hit the spot! Love the smashing replay monitor story and can’t wait for the rest of the podcast. Ryanpete4 (Twitter).

    All Time Favorite
Ken Griffey Jr is my all time favorite athlete. I’ll never forget watching him go 1st to 3rd to beat the Yankees in the 11th inning of game 5 of the 95 ALDS. The image of him and his big smile at the bottoms of the dog pile is one of my favorite sports pictures or all time. So far this podcast has left me grinning ear to ear learning new things about Jr and brining back childhood memories

    The way I swing
Favorite Griffey memory was him hitting bombs off the brick building at Camden Yards during the home run derby. Never heard the kid sensation Griffey banger before, new favorite song. IG: @lukefitzpatrck

Huge smile on my face while listening!
Just listened to the first two episodes of the KGJ series. Xola and Alex have managed to combine theee of my favorite things: baseball, hip hop, and 90s pop culture into a podcast! I’m loving it. Thanks so much guys.

A great exploration of the life of a great man
This is such a fascinating exploration of the life and story of a prodigy superstar, Ken Griffey Jr. The Kid played in the first baseball game I ever went to but I was too young to remember that. I’m excited to learn more as this season progresses! @trentsouthwick (Instagram)
