The Ghosts on This Road

Using her own horror prose as an eerie foundation, writer Linda Wojtowick collaborated with fellow author Soren Narnia on this lo-fi conversational podcast series. In the first volume of 25 episodes (2020-2022), they play anonymous paranormal researchers calling back and forth from the road to report on mysterious phenomena. In the second volume of 15 episodes (beginning October 2023), they play very different unnamed characters: strangers attempting to piece together hazy shared memories of a faraway used bookstore that may never have existed. In both volumes, short and subtle tales of terror link hours of observations on fear, memory, obsession, and the wonder of things that cannot be explained.

The podcast’s companion book, featuring all of Linda Wojtowick’s stories as heard in the episodes, is available on Amazon.

    Abstract to a fault
This show can be frustratingly abstract. Even if it’s a creepy fiction, I’d prefer more linear stories, with less out-of-context poetry or conspicuously used wording and slow/rambling which doesn’t flow naturally, especially from the female voice actor. Her voice and script can be annoying. Knifepoint Horror is more linear and uses the slow-burn creep factor more effectively. Sometime the story is confusing and jumps around. It’s possible to listen to episodes and not actually know what some of them were about by the time it’s over. Some episodes just abruptly end with no clear reasoning as to why it was the end. I want to like this show but find it hard to.

    10/10
I don’t even know what to title this to capture this review. I’ve listened to this podcast in completion no less than 5 times. The way Linda writes and builds these slow burning, bizarrely calming and sinister plot lines…the absolute unparalleled chemistry of Linda and Soren- I have zero notes. This is a top 5 podcast.

    Kill me now!
This woman’s voice is so painful to listen to that I’m contemplating stepping into the path of oncoming traffic! Thus becoming the Ghost in this Road!

Very meta in a casual way. In the dreary tone that I love

    Droning
I understand what you’re trying to do, but your stories are getting lost in your pretentious language and writing style. Sometimes a simple story is best. This writing style and your droning narration (which often sounds like you yourself are unsure of what you’re saying) make it difficult to listen to.

    Top Tier Horror
Linda W. gives Soren a run for his money. Melancholy, atmospheric narration paired with truly frightening writing. 11/10 (the extra point is for the pants which will be scared off of you, yes, you)

    Incredible writing
I’m a bit swept away with the first episode. The writing is brilliant and the voice acting is too notch. Beautiful and eerie.

    Haunting
The writing is intoxicating. The whole thing is like a fever dream. I’m in love. Dark, moody bliss.
