PDPiperTruly! This podcast is a gift! This podcast is absolutely a gift and a daily haven from the everyday distractions. Fr. Mike’s approach is very comforting and his analysis of the scriptures read that day helps to enlighten my understanding of how they apply to me and the world we are living in today. I have grown to appreciate the peacefulness of listening to this podcast. Highly recommend.

ShurtmaA highly quality guide through the Bible, but with a dose of CatholicismI recently completed the entire 2022 edition of this show. I should note that I am not Catholic. I knew going into this that I’d hear some takes on how the Bible relates to Catholic beliefs that I don’t hold. It didn’t really bother me, except to say that some of the assertions seemed like quite a stretch. These included assertions such as: for 1500 years every Christian accepted the deuterocanonical as part of the Bible; the belief in apostolic succession; and, of course, the idea that the Catholic Church is the only legitimate church. All that noted, it’s a wonderful overall survey of the Bible, and I do agree with that vast majority of theology presented in it (or at least see it as a reasonable take). That brings me to my last point. Sometimes in the episodes you get some good theology, and sometimes you get more sermonizing or self-improvement preaching. I am not being critical of that, but it’s worth noting. There may be passages you would really like a better explanation for but may get something else in the commentary. You’ll have to explore those passages in further study. Overall, a very high quality show.

SophieDog7Acts of the ApostlesReally enjoying the Acts of the Apostles. Learning about Paul and Timothy and their adventures. How courageous they were. It is really fascinating! And Father does such a wonderful job summarizing each episode and ends with a beautiful prayer. Thank you Father!

jacscaGo to the sourceIn a world with information available at the tip of your fingers, it is very comforting to be able to be offered a way to read, meditate and, get excellent explanation of the Bible. The accessibility of information has been exploited by those who are confused and want to divide, but only fundamental truths stand the test of time. Thanks for this podcast. It has been and extraordinary source of knowledge and brought me much closer to love and God.

Hyunjeong Lee

2023ParadiseI didn’t knowLike many wanting to read the Bible, I would become lost, not understanding the meaning behind things that were said or done. And never in my wildest mind knew that Jesus had a messy family just like many of us. Putting it in a time line gave me prospective of the events. Most important for me was to be able to listen to the Bible, I didn’t like struggling with words and what they meant. Thank you Jesus for bringing such a character as Father Mike 😀reading followed by explaining what was read. I know it may sound silly but …. I wonder how the book ends, then it hits me 😇 I look forward to each day, so I will have to start at the beginning next year. Unless you think there maybe a sequel 😇 Jesus Christ my lord and savior I’m feeling so blessed.
-

Stop it 1000Father Mike’s prayersYour reading the Bible is a blessing because we can catch up anytime and be reminded of the Word that we read but have forgotten some details. Love your energy and presentation. Do you know you chuckle every time as you begin to pray? If it is intentional I’ll get used to it😊🙏 Now it won’t take the review until I come up with a nickname…really, 25 names have already been taken?

Land WarfareThe whole truth and nothing but the truthOpen your heart and mind and listen to all of the books in the Old Testament, along with the New Testament, read in a manner that is easy to follow. Father Mike’s break downs after the readings are also incredibly helpful and insightful.

I am a Methodist but I really have enjoyed the readings, explanations, and insight into not only the Bible itself but of the Catholic religion. So many answers to questions I have had. Thank you Father Mike. I am on day 250 and will continue to listen.

DominigigiLife changing!I've always struggled to read and grasp the word of the Lord from the bible. Father Mike is a true blessing. Annie.TuI am so Blessed!I am so very blessed to have found this podcast “The Bible in a Year with Father Mike Schmitz”. Although I am not Catholic, this program resonates with my heart more than trying to read the Bible in a year, from Genesis to Revelation, ever did for me. This does not feel like another thing on my to-do list. My head, heart and Spirit are aligned in yearning to listen and reflect on each day’s Bible reading. I fully appreciate the teaching Father Mike provides after the Reading. I am now on Day 12 and now, more than ever, am understanding, as much as humanly possible, how much God loves me. What’s better is I feel myself falling in love with Him. Thank you, Father Mike and Ascension for all that you do in the name of Christianity! And, Father Mike, God Bless you for providing pre-marital counseling to my daughter and now, son-in-law. They have a marriage made in Heaven and are expecting their first child this year! Prayers and love for Father Mike and everyone at Ascension! Your fellow Duluthian, AT

MeghanPHSo thankfulI started this in January and I’ve been so grateful for this podcast. Father Mike is an excellent teacher and has given me new insight into stories I’ve heard many times before, as well as helped me through lesser known parts. I started this approx 4 months before I received a cancer diagnosis this spring. As a 45 year old mom and previously healthy woman, I was stunned. But….thanks be to God he was preparing me (and my husband) to take this walk with him. The daily scripture (as well as the hallow app where I was introduced to this bible study) has been my lighthouse in the storm. Thanks be to God!

I look forward to the daily podcast every morning.

14carmThank You!On May 1, 2022 I made the commitment to learn more about Jesus. As a Catholic I always felt ignorant about the Bible. I was scared and nervous about opening the Bible. But Father Mike made it easy to understand the lessons. I’m so grateful for Father Mike and everyone who takes part in the podcast/Hallow App or YouTube. Today was day #365 for me. I am so happy that I finished. But, I’m happy because all the knowledge I gained about knowing Jesus Christ.
-

tigress28_usmcLife changingIm not a catholic, but Christian. I have struggled reading the Bible in a year on my own I’ve tried all sorts of different things. I’ve struggled with the Old Testament, I’ve read the New Testament, but couldn’t get further than Joshua in the OT I’ve tried for decades. Fr. Mike’s reading than the further explanation and doing a mini dive into each reading has taught me so much that I haven’t received at church. It’s invaluable to me and now I’m sharing it with others. It’s got me looking into the Catholic Church more and more. I can’t express my gratitude for this podcast, the insight I’ve received and my gratefulness for Fr. Mikes Commitment to this podcast for all of our benefits. This is exactly what I’ve been searching for and has led me to other catholic places to gain knowledge of the word. After this year, I may just have to start all over again. What a gift technology is in this moment. I have found a stronger faith, I have drifted away like a lost sheep and I feel like I’ve finally been found. I want to learn how to pray better, I am hungry for Adonai’s word and I have found a blessing in this podcast. I also appreciate that Fr. Mike says if you miss a day or two it’s ok just pick up where you left off. Sometimes it’s hard to go back once you’ve missed a day, but I find it’s not. we aren’t perfect we are human. Now I must go listen and learn about day 119 because wow, 118 was amazing information that somehow I instinctively knew!
-
mountainhealerToo fast!!!!Finally, I am able to read the Bible and understand it! Father Mike’s commentary after each reading each day is invaluable!!! This is my second time around. I’ve disciplined myself to listening every morning and in doing so, have learned so, so much. And I’ve also come to appreciate Father Mike’s rather fast rate of speech. My ear has grown accustomed to how he gets the job in a relatively short time, done clearly and concisely. Thank you!
-
KJStaraceGratefulGrateful for this great work by Father Mike.

Soup WomanWhat a Gift!A true gift. I was behind in my readings but got caught up. I feel so anchored after doing the readings each morning.
-
AustinHoughFound This Podcast Via The Matt Walsh ShowI was an atheist for the first 52 years of my life and then went on a year-long spiritual journey that led to one day in 2021 when I awoke from a night’s sleep, sat up in bed, and realized I had been wrong about the existence of God for my entire life. That morning I realized three things: there is a God, our one and only creator; Jesus Christ is his son and my Lord and Savior; and the Holy Spirit had been tugging at me for decades and I just wasn’t paying attention. Fr. Mike Schmitz and the Bible in a Year podcast helps me start each and every day with the word of our Lord and for that I am truly grateful. God bless Fr. Mike and Ascension.

CatharkDownload issue with 116FYI: Day 116 didn’t auto download to my IPhone as episodes always do for me as a subscriber or “follower.” My other subscriptions did. I went to the podcast page “See All” and it said it had been out 3 hours. I could listen and download myself. Coincidentally I downloaded the latest upgrade IOS 16.4.1 yesterday evening. I thank you for all the work you’ve done to get this out. It has been a wonderful thing on my life.

lunarfantasy79Thank youGod Bless you Father Mike! I have struggled with reading the Bible, but you make it so easy. I love how you walk us through after reading the verses, help us decipher and understand the word. And how that pertains to us and our life now. Thank you.
-

Noogs941Perfect for LearningMy family is Catholic but rarely attend mass. So I never had a real knowledge or understanding of the Bible. I always wanted to learn more because I’m the type of person that has questions about everything. Listening to this podcast has been perfect in answering my questions and even giving me new ones. It also has helped me to know that it’s ok to struggle with and not understand Gods word sometimes. I’ve always had faith but especially nowadays when it seems like I see something or someone that tries to poke holes in religion or completely debunk it this podcast has helped me stay faithful.
