JUrteagaGalindoIncredibly uplifting.Professor Perlin is a natural interviewer. He gets people talking about their paths in a way that sounds like a coffee shop conversation rather than a podcast. The breadth of experiences he features and the depth the interviewees go make this podcast extremely beneficial for any law student or lawyer. It can be discouraging to be in professional school or after and not be absolutely certain about what you want to do. This podcast is the hug and pep talk we need and deserve.

NB2214Wonderful source of knowledgeI love this podcast! Jonah’s kindness and spot on questions help guide the discussion. And there’s a wealth of knowledge to be had here, not just for those in law school, but even beyond.

A DC AttorneyOne of the only podcasts I listen to multiple times!Jonah Perlin’s How I Lawyer Podcast is one of the best legal podcasts - best podcasts, period - out there. I regularly find myself listening to episodes multiple times for the wealth of insight they provide. His broad range of guests represent all facets of the legal profession, reminding us why we joined the profession in the first place. And Jonah is an excellent interviewer, drawing out insight from guests with his characteristic “say more about that.” As a longtime listener and one time guest, this is the podcast I most look forward to in my feed each week!

KBWFLValuable Resource for Law StudentsProf. Perlin’s chats with practitioners from a variety of practice areas provide a valuable resource for law students. Students can listen to episodes with lawyers working in areas of interest and get a sense of what that practice area is really like. My students are reporting on episodes in class, giving students a glimpse into practice areas they are considering and other the students didn’t know existed.

HR3313A+ for How I LawyerJonah Perlin is a delightful and thoughtful host for this excellent program exploring the legal profession. Helpful for law students and practicing attorneys alike, How I Lawyer is one of the first resources I share when asked for career insight. Keep up the great work, Jonah!

Wilson F. SwaggerExcellent podcast!“How I Lawyer” is always at the top of my list of recommended legal resources. It is particularly useful for young lawyers interested in learning about the range of opportunities in the legal profession and the various pathways into such roles. Engaging host, interesting guests, and plenty of advice/tips for both aspiring and accomplished lawyers. Will continue to listen/recommend and suspect anyone else who gives it a listen will do the same.

MekaramInterested in Law? Follow “How I Lawyer!” And “How I Law School” by Prof. Jonah Perkins! If you think that you might want to become a lawyer, I cannot recommend Georgetown Law Professor Jonah Perlin’s two podcasts “How I Lawyer” and “How I Law School” highly enough! As a retired Georgetown Law alumnus, who mentors individuals interested in law, I have followed Jonah’s podcasts for about 6 months and am consistently impressed by the quality of his work. How I Lawyer will give you an ide of what it is like to be a practicing lawyer in a given field. How I Law School will help to demystify the law school experience and provide excellent tips on how to be successful in your law school journey! Proud that Jonah is a Georgetown Law alumnus and professor!
-
Clevy_LawInsightful JourneysJonah’s podcast does an excellent job of sharing the myriad of journeys that others have taken within the legal industry. It is a masterful series and one that I cannot recommend highly enough.

StormEntityOpens new worlds! This show is fantastic—it’s an insight into different possibilities in the law that I’d never imagined, and it gives great tactical advice for those following more well-trod paths. Highly recommend it to any law student or person considering attending law school.

whereisheatherentertaining and educationalI loved Partner Track Netflix series, did a quick search across social media platforms and found Jonah’s podcast with author Helen Wan. All the questions and topics of conversations were exactly what I wanted to ask her. Then I started listening to other guests on other episodes, very entertaining and informative, even for someone 20+ years in the business. Looking forward to hearing more!
-
cmaaanSome good content, but interviewer puts words in their mouth..As in the description line — he goes far overboard putting words in his guests mouth, so it is continually like Jonah: “ you mean (long winded description) XYZ?” Guest: “uhm.. (thinks how to graciously say no)”
-
ml2058Legal culture fluencyBeyond mapping various career paths, this is an incredible access point and tool for legal cultural immersion. A lot of law students who might not be as fluent in the language and lingo will benefit. Professor Perlin also doesn’t have an annoying podcaster voice which helps!
-
NCaliDadGreat podcast for law studentsJonah interviews leading lawyers and learns about their practice. I wish I had this when I was a law student and young lawyer!
-
Yi Song GeorgetownGreat insight for how law is practiced in the U.S.Jonah’s How I Lawyer podcast provides unique insights of how the law is practiced in the U.S. from stories of real practitioners in almost every practice area. The content is invaluable to internationally-trained lawyers from around the world. Many of us come to understand the American legal system through legal TV shows and movies, and spend the rest of our career correcting our impression from American TV lawyers.
-
ReviewGoodOrBadExcellentThe podcast is thoughtfully geared toward law students and new lawyers, but I’ve been practicing 20+ years and still enjoy it.
-
ArtificiallimbolikewhatwhatGreat for lawyers and non-lawyers!There are myriad different kinds of lawyer and this shown is a great way to learn about them. I never miss an episode.

Maureen Van NesteUnique insight into the practice of lawAs a law school professor, I regularly assign and recommend episodes to my students as they sort through what kinds of lawyers they want to be and think about what their day-to-day practice will look like. The insights of practicing lawyers across a diverse range of practices will interest students and lawyers alike. The podcast is also incredibly well-produced. Professor Perlin is a pro!
-
@TheLawFirmGCExcellentThis is a refreshing and excellent podcast. While an amazing resource for law students and new attorneys, ever episode provides valuable insights and perspective for seasoned lawyers too. Keep up the great work Jonah!
-
Barney434I always learn something newI wish I’d had this podcast when I started law school. Every week, Jonah really leans into the “How” of the legal profession with his guests. The variety of practices and approaches gives listeners a chance to learn about what works and what doesn’t, to borrow ideas for their own day-to-day, and to think long-term about the many (and often circuitous) paths lawyers take in their careers.
-
KirkJNAlways interesting and usefulA great series. For young and old lawyers as well as people thinking about a legal career.
-
Caylea BGreat resource for law students!I just recently found this podcast, it’s such a great resource for current law students! I listened to episodes #40 and #38 so far (interested in environmental law) and they have so many great takeaways and are filled with actionable advice.

Grant79349Great Podcast- Applicable Beyond Just LawI’m not in law school, but med school. However, this podcast impacted the way I study, write, and think about material learned in my school curriculum. The guests are each unique. The stories of their journeys and the advice they give can be applied to anyone entering a professional field. I truly believe some of the thought provoking content will one day help me bring a unique perspective to, and leave a greater impact within the field of public health.
-
Antipasti16Top podcast for lawyers (and non-lawyers)Jonah’s podcast is terrific - from engaging guests to spot-on questions, the conversations flow and make this one of the most engaging podcasts. It’s great for lawyers and law students, or even those curious about the stories behind some of the most notable lawyers in America. Well done!
-
Lulhoftso helpfulSuper helpful for clarifying what exactly lawyers do while working in different areas of the law. Reccommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about what lawyers do but also to anyone who is applying to law school and feels a little unsure about what direction to go in and if they're right for the profession. (p.s if you fall into the latter category: you got this!)

DE PetersonExcellent Podcast - Not Just for Law StudentsI’ve always had interest in law and our legal system. This podcast was recommended by a Legal Writing professor. I listened to the recommended episode, then I subscribed. I started at #1. I just listened to #62. I enjoy listening to Professor Perlin and his guests. gahindinExcellent podcastI am a mid-career attorney and I recently stumbled upon this podcast. It is very thought provoking and covers a wide variety of topics, so everyone should be able to find an episode deeply relevant to them. Jonah is an excellent host, who asks very thoughtful questions. I recommend this to anyone interested in becoming a lawyer or anyone currently practicing law.
-
hurricane hammondWonderful Podcast!Jonah is a fantastic interviewer. His interviews focus on how the interviewee developed their careers. I really appreciate hearing about that. I wish I had discovered this earlier in my career.
-
nate kostelnikGreat podcast for young lawyersI wish I had this when I was starting out. Deep, thoughtful perspectives from a variety of lawyers, practice areas, and experiences.
-
QwertyuiopnAmazing podcastAs a rising second year law student, I’ve loved listening to this podcast and learning about the breadth of law jobs that exist - which law school usually doesn’t teach you about! Will certainly keep listening.

RLwilliams2012Must listen for first gen, prospective law studentsBottom line up front: The host asks thoughtful, pragmatic and interesting questions of prominent attorneys in a myriad of practice areas. Background/ perspective: The only lawyers I “knew” growing up were LT Daniel Kafee & Atticus Finch. I start law school in a few months. I’ve tried many law school niche podcasts and was pleasantly surprised to find one I genuinely enjoy listening to. Highlights: I’ve found this podcast to be an efficient (45 min at 1X but definitely able to listen at 1.5X) and quality way to learn more about different types of law. Since listening, I’ve had a noticeable improvement in my own abilities/ confidence in conducting my own informational interviews—- as that’s essentially how the host structures each show. Not currently in law school but plan to continue listening as I decide which type of law I want to practice. Audio quality is 💯( it’s professionally produced) Host is a Georgetown law professor

Allie_WIncredible Show for Law Students and LawyersWhen is a podcast like having a personal legal career mentor? When it’s How I Lawyer with Professor Jonah Perlin. Every episode features uniquely relevant information about the art of lawyering presented through an engaging conversation with legal thought leaders. I just finished the episode with Professor Heidi Brown, and I think her perspective is a game changer for law students.
-
farmer_lawyerIlluminating PodcastProfessor Perlin has an absolutely star-studded lineup of guest speakers. This podcast has greatly expanded my view of what I can do with a law degree. He is also a great follow on Twitter!
-
Connor34349898Fantastic Podcast, Invaluable for Law StudentsAs a first gen law student, I came into law school with a really narrow idea of what “being a lawyer” looks like. Listening to interviews with attorneys from such a wide range of practice settings and career paths has really opened my eyes to the exciting breadth of possibilities within the profession, and I’ve found that to be invaluable. In addition, the conversations themselves are just as interesting and wide-ranging as the slate of guests. How I Lawyer is a must-listen for anyone eager to learn more about the legal arena and the lives of those working within it
-
uva0LInvaluable for Incoming Law StudentsAs a first-gen incoming law student, I have found Prof Perlin’s podcast to be an incredible resource, one that’s allowed me to explore a variety of legal practice areas and career paths!

Alex 2LStandout PodcastThere are a ton of law student/junior attorney oriented podcasts out there and Professor Perlin’s is a standout—it's not overdone, it's honest, and he consistently succeeds at extracting unique, actionable advice from guests.

True_Country_Fan“Must Listen” podcast for 1LsI’m a 1L going through the summer and post-grad job search processes. The in-depth conversations and insightful interview style of Jonah Perlin keep me coming back. My school’s career services professionals are top notch, but the 1-on-1 talks between Jonah and his guests are a crucial supplement. This is a must listen for all who seek to learn about the legal industry’s practice areas, professional best practices, and career development opportunities. It is clear that Jonah also has direct access to the interests, anxieties, and questions of current law students … and he does the lord’s work by addressing those in this podcast.
-
yutrahyutFull of wisdom and great informationHighly recommend Professor Perlin’s podcast for all attorneys and students. He asks all the right questions of amazing lawyers across dozens of practice areas. I take a great deal from each episode, even those unrelated to my practice. Side benefit is the positive and encouraging tone of the podcast. I arrive to work energized and excited about the law.
-
Young(ish) LawyerCan't Miss for Law Students and LawyersI wish this podcast had been available when I was in law school, or for that matter when I was contemplating going to law school. There is so much about the practice of law and business side of the industry that one never learns as a student or as a young associate. The myriad perspectives - from leading litigators to senior in-house counsel - offer useful tips on what drives these highly accomplished practictioners to continue their work as notable figures in their respective fields.
-
FreelanceLawMomAmazing Podcast for Law Students & Lawyers Alike!I’ve been a litigator for over a decade and recently found this podcast through #lawtwitter and I have absolutely enjoyed every episode I’ve listened to so far. It’s so amazing to hear about the different paths many different lawyers have taken, what it took to get there, and what their work looks like now. Would highly recommend to law students considering their futures, lawyers looking for a career pivot, and also lawyers like me who mentor other law students and young lawyers, as the experiences of these diverse attorneys is incredibly insightful!
-
Samantha JeffreyNecessary listening for anyone entering the profession (or even considering it)The most powerful thing a mentor can share with you is their story. In each episode of this podcast, Professor Perlin interviews a lawyer. They then share their professional journey and describe their typical work day and it’s tasks. Together, Professor Perlin and the interviewee also suggest how an aspiring lawyer may consider and approach the same or similar work. All of that in less than an hour! Absolutely essential listening, particularly for those who may not know different types of lawyers, or are struggling to choose between different opportunities.
-
Jack.LawHelpful for recent law graduatesA big thank you to Professor Perlin for putting this show together. These episodes are a great resource to think through future career options, even when (or maybe especially when) my takeaway from an episode is that I have no interest in the interviewee’s day-to-day work. The episodes cover a wide variety of legal careers and clearly reflect a lot of work by Professor Perlin.
-
Bold Women LawyersFascinating discussionsI really enjoy listening to these podcasts. I especially like the breadth of topics covered. No matter what your area of practice you can find something to like on this podcast.

saurabhis@Every episode is gold! This is an absolutely fantastic podcast for lawyers at all levels. It has several practical tips on how to navigate legal profession, law school, networking, legal advocacy, ethics, clerkship, and above all mentorship from the best of this profession. Legal profession is so much more than just the law itself and is filled with very interesting people who bring their varied experiences with them to this profession to make a difference, in their own way, on a very human level. This podcast exposes the audience to those experiences and rekindles ones belief that law is a tool to make good things happen; that failures are just steps to success; that help others if you want others to help you. Jonah has done a tremendous job on collecting timeless wisdom in one place from the legal giants.
