    What a great double episode.
If I download the list of 50 things, there would be a lot of checks. You are so right about these things as I do work on a farm for meat, eggs and veggies. I have found a great niche at farmer’s markets by helping out with sales for the beginning rush- in exchange for food….They don’t need me the whole time. And I have created a sourcing list for each food I put up- it goes in order and farmers know if they are my first choice....Like you, I say yes to everything but especially to “b” grade things at markets. Farmers don’t want to truck them home so I help them out- always offering to buy them, but most times they are gifted. But it is education that I find helps out the most. When people are buying our blueberries and commenting on how good they are- I suggest they by twice as many, freeze them for later in the winter…I let people know that the tops of radishes are wonderful in a stir fry, and of course my favorite is that maple syrup freezes- so buy it in bulk…. I learned of your podcast through Diana Rodgers and have even purchased the broth book, it is awesome…thank you for sharing your wisdom…

Love this resource and the content so much
I have thoroughly enjoyed this podcast, learning, growing, and expanding my knowledge and nutrition. I am so thankful they do this podcast. My only complaint is volume. It is very inconsistent during the podcast; and unfortunately when another podcast comes on after it is so much louder it is shocking (due to having to turn the volume to maximum). Most of the time I can’t hear Andrea’s short comments, they are unintelligible even on the loudest setting. I truly want to hear everything said, and what they are saying/sharing is valuable. Thank you both for taking the time to share everything you have learned and are learning.

    Nourishment for the Soul
I started following Andrea over ten years ago. Through out the past decade Andrea has inspired me to make simple life changing changes that have made an impact on me and my family. During the "Slow Christmas" episode Andrea used the phrase "nourish the soul", and that is what this podcast is for me. I am able to reflect, learn from and be inspired by Alison's and Andrea's living. I look forward to each and every podcast. It nourishes my soul and home.

    The warm fuzzies!
I am a very young and new wife. I grew up with a very normal American diet and a working mom. I am working towards a slower, simplier, more luxurious kind of life for my husband and I. I love the tone of the podcast and the knowledge. This podcast makes me think of a fireside chat with a warm drink filled with simple luxuries. It makes me very nostalgic and much more inspired walking away to make simplier choices instead of something busier or that does not serve me or my family.

    The Ultimate Ancestral Podcast!
I recently found the Ancestral Kitchen podcast and have been going back and listening from the beginning. Every single episode contains a wealth of knowledge and a warmth and comfort in Andrea and Alison’s conversations. I feel at home listening to this podcast and diving into more of the ancestral wisdom of old. I’ve particularly been inspired to branch out when it comes to ferments! Thank you for all that you do!

    My new friends!
Alison and Andrea are not only a wealth of information on ancestral eating, they are also two of the most genuine people I’ve ever listened to. This podcast is up building and inspiring as well as practical. The Patreon community that is optional culturally diverse, friendly, and supportive. I am looking forward to years of supporting this community and the work Andrea and Alison are doing.

    Relateable and so informational!
I love how Allison and Andrea have different approaches to eating ancestrally that make it availabale to people in any living situation! We have a small homestead but I’ve learned so much from both of them and I love their easy dialogue and down to earth approach! Hearing what theyve actually eaten before each episode is fun but also so helpful and approachable! I met Andrea at the Modern Homestead conference and she was so kind and I can hear the kindness and fun throughout the podcast in both of them! Thank you, ladies!

    A Blessing
Andrea and Alison have become my new companions while cooking, cleaning, and walking. I am blessed by their knowledge and feel inspired and determined after every episode. They help to make a healthy, traditional lifestyle accessible to us every day regular folk who are just trying to live the best we can. I am ever so grateful! 💞

    Informative, comforting and inspiring
I have binge listened to this podcast since I found it on my health journey. I have learned so much by listening all the while being inspired and comforted. The interview style is very effective in getting information for the listeners but has a laid back quality that just is calming. I have found myself numerous times while listening getting excited about the subjects discussed. I felt like I have known Andrea and Alison for years even though we have never met. What a treasure this place is and it has helped me in more ways than I can say here. If you want to be inspired, get tips on healthier eating or just want to learn this is the place.

    So great!
I loved the episodes on 50 ways to save money! Super helpful. I don’t think the PDF has been updated with the entire list — do you have that?

    Life-affirming
I live by myself in the woods in California. It's beautiful, but can get lonely, so I lean on podcasts. Had to break myself of my true crime podcast habit and I stumbled upon Ancestral Kitchen. These women are so lovely and feel like good friends. Now instead of filling my head with ugly crime stories, I am cooking up soaked oats, tending my sourdough starter, making bone broths and cleaning my dishes while listening to their wise and comforting words. I wish they were two hours long. Haha. Thank you Andrea and Alison. <3

    Encouraging!
Never do these ladies make you feel like you are “less than” or “behind” in your health journey. Just honest discussion and great tips and tricks and years of experience. I look forward to every episode! Also. Their cookbook is lovely and full of inspiration! - Justine

    Fantastic podcast
I can’t stop listening to it while at work (in a manufacturing environment while building and testing machines) or at home while cooking, cleaning, gardening or even while jogging. Love it!!!!

    Thank you!
I want to thank you Alison, and Andrea for taking the time to create this lovely podcast! I live in rural Downeast Maine USA, where my husband and I are carving out a “new” life for ourselves, being as self sustaining, and healthy as we can be. I so appreciate listening to the two of you discussing the options that are available. I am extremely skeptical of the “food “ in the grocery store, and use them only when absolutely necessary. I’m hoping to completely eliminate them at some point soon! We currently raise chickens, and vegetables, and have been connecting with all the local micro farms in central and Northern Maine, and feel healthier than ever. I just finally bought a pressure canner, and I feel like I’ll be able to set us up completely with locally sourced food, and ferments. Thank you again! Sincerely, Andrea Swanson

    Wholesome Podcast about Wholesome Food
I stumbled upon this podcast, drawn in by Alison’s beautiful radio voice and Andrea”s delightful quirkiness. These ladies draw you in and dive deep on ancestral food topics, from preparation to the history to the farming and food production means needed to sustain truly wholesome nutrition. I truly look forward to listening in on their conversations and have picked up many new ideas from the show. Highly Recommend!

    Motivating and eye opening
I have tried to focus on healthy eating for many years but got to a point where I was so bored with cooking and felt I had lost whatever creativity I used to have in my kitchen. In a random podcast search for some type of food inspiration I stumbled upon this podcast and it completely opened me up to a whole new world of food. I am so inspired by Andrea and Allison. The creative juices are turning again! As I begin to implement some of the things I’m learning I find that so many nutritional questions I had spinning around in my head are beginning to have answers. Ladies- I hope you will keep this podcast going forever!! Thank you for inspiring me!

    Demystifying Nourishing Traditions
Prior to finding your podcast I had bought a copy of Nourishing Traditions. I had thumbed through it, only to be intimidated by many of the recipes that contained ingredients (like whey) and processes (like stewing something for 24 hrs) that I was unfamiliar with. The book just sat around looking pretty! Your podcast broke down all of this for me and gave me the confidence to forge ahead. Now my copy of Nourishing Traditions is permanently in my kitchen and is filled with post-its of recipes I want to try or that have become favorites. Thank you!!

A true gem in the natural health world!
I am so thankful I found this podcast! This is actually the first Apple podcast review I took time to write because it’s well deserved. Alison and Andrea are a joy to listen to and are both a wealth of knowledge on the ancestral eating lifestyle. Also how crazy is it they have never met in person but you’d never be able to tell that by listening to their chemistry! Can we get a fundraiser going for the big Alison & Andrea Ancestral Meet Up!? You guys are great, keep it up!

One of my top favorite podcasts
Living an alternative healthy lifestyle is isolating enough, especially when it is for health issues that most people don’t comprehend. Diet is such a huge topic in our day and time, and people make all kinds of exceptions for special occasions, but some of us can’t ever do that due to severe consequences. I say all that to say, sometimes it can be isolating. Podcasts like this one are a HUGE help to me emotionally! I feel so kindred to the things they are speaking regarding a traditional healthy diet and I don’t feel so “weird” or “extreme”. THANK YOU for all the time and effort that goes into this podcast. I need it! I have loved every episode and learn new things and laugh along with you.

    Love!!
This podcast has been life changing and such a joy to listen to as I’m carting my kiddos around. I’m excited to add things back into our diets/lifestyles that I saw my Nanny doing while I was growing up. Excited to do Alison’s Rye Sourdough class to start the adventure into sourdough! Thank you ladies—this is needed and you do it so well!

    Timeless
This show is fantastic and I’m usually listening in the car with my one year old son (who now recognizes your voices) or cleaning my kitchen after a long day of cooking, I like to think that if our female ancestors had radios this is what they would be listening to while scrubbing their cast iron and rendering their tallow and it makes me smile to think about whilst bringing me closer to them. Always look forward to an episode, thank you

    Simple and Down to Earth
This podcast has quickly become one of my favorites. The hosts make ancestral foods simple and down to earth. They don't make me feel like I need a farm, a fancy kitchen, or a new linen apron to eat ancestrally. This podcast helps take the pressure off and simplify. I love the different perspectives too - city vs. farm, european vs. american, bigger family vs. smaller. Between the two of them, you will probably see your own life somewhere in the discussion.

    Simply, the best!
I am a HUGE fan of this podcast. The I information really is simple and the steps given are so helpful. It makes me strive to be better in own my kitchen and the ways of the world!! I SO enjoy listening to this, it is like a comforting chat with old friends. So cool that they are literally halfway around the world from each other! The information and practical steps show how attainable this lifestyle can be. And doing some of these practices is better than doing none. My guess is once you start, it just keeps on rolling from there! Even if it takes time, that is completely OK. Wonderful show and content ladies, please keep it up! 💜

    Like family
I love this podcast! Even though I’m on the beginning of my ancestral health journey, I really love listening! I often feel like I’m sitting down for a chat with my sisters! ❤️

A fast favorite that will keep you coming back for more!
I can't say enough good things about this show, where to begin?! I've learned so much that I can turn around and put into practice in my own home & kitchen that same day, what a blessing! Andrea & Alison are so fun to listen to and it's amazing to hear them share the things that are working for them both even though they live in totally different parts of the world. My family has been blessed so much by what I've learned from this show, 10/10 recommend! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

    Great show!
I recently stumbled upon the ancestral kitchen podcast and I absolutely love it. I’ve learned so much by listening, and I’ve gotten so many new ideas for the kitchen. I’ve also taken to putting schmaltz on my bread (so delicious) and I'm looking forward to trying more of the talked about dishes. I mostly listen on my long drive in and home from a very stressful job, and the discussions help me to relax, be in a better mental place, and plan future meals! Thank you both for sharing!

    Well done!
Very rarely do I anticipate a new episode from a podcast: I usually can take or leave most shows. But this pod has been lovingly binge listened, and I can’t wait to hear what you two do next! Thank you so much for such a wonderful podcast!
  • No party for old women
    Yes!!!
I’m so excited to have found us. This is something that I’ve been looking for for ages. After you’ve poured over Nourishing Traditions for years, what do you do then? You listen to this! Lots of encouragement and support.

    Love this show
This show is so life giving and encouraging. And these women really care! Keep up the good work :)

    Encouraging and Informative
I learned of this podcast from the Wise Tradotions podcast. It has encouraged and inspired me to dig in to ancestral eating more than I have been. I have owned the Nourishing Traditions book for years…but, sadly, have not completely followed its principles because it can be overwhelming. Thank you Alison and Andrea for simplifying it for me!

    Full of goodness!
Listening to this amazing podcast will lead to an increase of satisfaction in your belly and mind… You’ll have more mason jars in your fridge and on your counter. And your spouse asking, “what is that bubbling thing?” Your gut health will increase as will your budget for books. Plus you’ll make more friends because you will probably start lingering at the farmers market. This wealth of information will expand your mind and encourage you to use your kitchen more and your phone less. These ladies and their guests are a joy to listen too and so knowledgeable. I HIGHLY recommend!

    Informative and Inspiring!
I recently discovered this podcast and am loving it! I am a novice in the ancestral cooking world but have had an interest in it for a while. I have only dipped my toe in the waters of fermenting but this podcast is inspiring me to keep going! Andrea and Allison are honest and down to earth, and it's great to hear from people who are actually cooking and living this way and making it a practical lifestyle.

    Homemade soup the soul
Listening to Alison and Andrea feels like having afternoon tea with two good friends. They’re as inspiring as they are down to earth, and every episode I learn something new about ancestral food, bodies, careers and everything in between. Keep up the amazing work!

    Just Marvelous
I’m so grateful for Andrea and Alison’s wisdom and grace as they share their hard won knowledge. If you have the means to become a Patron it’s worth the investment. Their bonus episodes and videos are excellent.
  • Skyler Aisha
    Beautiful podcast with one caveat
I love this podcast immensely. The energy of the journey is warm and soothing and the wisdom and experience of these women blows my mind. It has been such an inspiration to hear their projects - “failures” and successes both - and to try my own. The only issue I have with this podcast is Andrea’s cackling at her own jokes constantly. I don’t know how to say it nicer; she laughs every few seconds which is incredibly grating and distracting. Often, her cackles leave no room for conversation or keeping the pace of the episode going. It is hard to keep listening to someone laughing at their own jokes over and over. My hope is that her loud laughter can take a step back and leave space for more engaging and intelligent conversation.

Found what I was looking for
I couldn’t stop listening Ancestral Kitchen podcast for a couple of hours upon discovering it. Everything resonated with me so much! I later had to go back and listen to the same episodes again, but this time with a notebook and a pencil. I have recommended this podcast to my family and like-minded friends. You ladies are so inspiring! Keep doing your great work!

    Love this one
I love this podcast, especially for living the ancestral eating style. Informative and fun hearing about sourcing food in different countries. I just wish Andrea would stop trying to talk over Allison.
  • Very Special Agent Dinozzo
    Grateful for this podcast!
I typed in ancestral cooking and found this podcast and I love it! Great information delivered in a non-intimidating way. It does feel like you’re hanging out with some international besties. The only reason I took off a star was because it is really distracting how often the hosts interrupt on another (especially how much Andrea interrupts Alison). I completely understand the cross ocean thing making for a delay in the recording process which maybe accounts for it but it’s incredibly annoying and feels like it halts the flow of conversation.
  • CKMilla
I was thankful to find it!
I do love this podcast. I am in the beginning stages of my journey and I appreciate that they talk about their own journeys and at the same time are still learning and growing, yet to be experts. It encourages and challenges me at the same time. The only thing I would change is how much Andrea cuts off Allison. I know she is passionate, but she often interrupts and especially in the episode about giving up the supermarket, it was distractingly so.

    A Pure Delight
I LOVE this podcast. Alison and Andrea are so much fun to listen to and learn from. I feel validated, encouraged, and motivated every time I listen. Their conversations always make me feel like I’m sitting at the kitchen table (or working in the garden) with them as they discover and discuss aspects of ancestral kitchens, health, and life.
  • hannahkatlyn
    my new favorite podcast!
I have been absolutely enjoying Alison and Andrea’s new podcast. I’m in the very (very) early stages of learning more about ancestral foods and eating, and they both bring so much knowledge to the table from their own diverse experiences in a really fun and accessible way. I’m so excited to continue listening and learning!
