The Confessions of Anthony Raimondi

301

In 1978, Pope John Paul I was found dead in his bed just 33 days after he was elected. The official story is that he suffered a fatal heart attack. But in the years since his death, some have claimed he was murdered to cover up crimes in the Vatican. The question of the Pope’s death has never been definitively answered, but there is one man who claims to know the truth. A man from one of New York City’s crime families who has deep ties to the Italian mafia. He was there the day of the Pope’s death and witnessed his murder firsthand. Or, at least, that’s what he says. His name is Anthony Raimondi, and these are his confessions.

    It’s ok
The premise is great and sounds exciting but nothing is really delivered. My favorite episode was the last one which is with the author of Gods Bankers, which is probably more interesting than this podcast.

    Waste of time
Don’t waste your time listening. They wasted time making a podcast that goes nowhere. It’s all a lie. Find a real mafioso and let’s hear some real stories.

Enjoyed the stories, but the hosts, not so much..
I don’t understand why these people made this podcast if they were going to make Anthony out to be an attention seeking liar. It’s hypocritical to call Anthony attention seeking when you used him and his stories to get attention for yourselves. I can understand not fully believing in his stories but talking behind his back on the podcast and getting upset and frustrated about “not getting the truth” when you’re relying on random people, missing info throughout history and 40 year old memories, feels disingenuous. I couldn’t even finish the last episode because it felt so fake and pointless. We all have to make a living but at least be honest with yourselves and the people you’re using to do it. I enjoyed Anthony’s stories but the hosts, not so much.

    Interesting… but mixed feelings
I wish I could give a 3.5… it’s hard to say anything without spoilers but it’s a bit underwhelming at the end. However I will definitely be reading the book covered more in the bonus episode at the end. I wanted to love it, but it was honestly a lot of build up and ended kind of sad tbh

    Don’t waste you’re time
Jesh, what a bunch of garbage in this show. Absolutely a bunch of hot air that goes nowhere.
  • Bryzness Man
    Huh?
Spoiler Alerts ahead, Anthony made it all up! However… it’s not his fault because he grew up in a terrible household full of amoral parents with hollow Catholic values. A neighborhood full of white kids picked at him mercilessly until he was forced to become a violent member of the Mafia. The Catholic Church is to blame here, they were even in cahoots with the evil colonists in the west helping them suppress a Communist uprising in Italy which would have lead to a Utopian society. In summary… Catholics and Capitalists bad, Commies good. Preach my Brooklyn Comrades!

    Meh, mediocre, bogey
A whole lot of nothing. It certainly didn’t reveal or uncover anything. And if you are looking for a human interest story, it lacks in that area also.
  • OverIt…
Entertaining mostly because it sounds like family members of mine who are long gone!
I’ve really enjoyed listening. Maybe parts are true, maybe they aren’t. I do have to say I feel like Sammy the Bull told a very similar military story about being sent to Vietnam on his podcast called Our Thing! Also entertaining!

I was hooked after 10 minutes. Such a fantastic story and the flow was amazing! I just wish there were more episodes!

    Highly entertaining
“We’re gonna take out the Pope. But in a nice way.” Hilarious! Great storytelling with unforgettable characters.

    Engaging and well done
Love the style, the pace as well as the content. Stayed hooked throughout

    Anthony’s story is incredible
However the host always trying to verify everything takes away from it. Who cares if it’s true? It’s a story. Sheesh.
  • Curious Lo
    Fascinating well told tale.
I followed the story of the corruption surrounding Vatican bank for a few years and if I had to wager I would bet that the murder of the pope took place more or less the way he described it, whether Anthony was involved or not
  • TravelPro247
    Interesting draw.
The story is interesting. The subject is colorful. If there's anything to complain about, it's that I hoped for more on the Church conspiracies that never appeared. Still, it was interesting enough to finish the series.

THE NARRATOR HAS A VOICE FOR PODCASTING! KEEPS YOU HOOKED, INTERESTED, EXCITED TO HEAR MORE AND MORE AND MORE!
  • From LA!!
    Intense!!
This dude is wild!!! Was hooked after ten minutes? The story is wild of how he was raised and how that impacted his ‘career’ choices 🤪 Share this wide and far guys!! So much intertwined between the mob and government.
  • Jen A all Day
Ehhhhhkkkk… is there a more annoying man on the planet?
I couldn’t even squeak through episode five. If I had to hear, “good question” from that bumbling buffoon one more time!!!!! These women are far too good for this knocker! And again I say, ehhhhhhkkkk to this dude. He’s beyond annoying. Ladies, please step away from the dating apps.

    Looking for Mr. Conman
I struggled thru the first episode hoping for one of those stories where you’re drawn in by the charming, skillful and manipulative con artist fooling a vulnerable woman. But this was just a story of a woman who “connected” with a mentally ill liar because she couldn’t find a real connection with anyone else. It might be an interesting podcast if approached from that angle—why does she pick these losers? Ugh.
  • KateJessie
    Spectacular
The quality is stellar. What a story and what courageous wonderful women. I have to say I am waiting for the podcast with Kathleen and her parents! That bit was delightful!!
  • jmccoy209
    Desperate
This woman has a PHD but goes along with a guy giving all typical “I am a con man” answers & yet she gives him another chance with her “stern” I told him I was going to fact check everything he told me”! Clearly she didn’t hold true to this line or didn’t fact check very well! Makes me think these women are afraid to go out and get a real job so theyi just work on producing a podcast.
  • mad 4 drp
    too many mouth sounds
boring. Nothing exciting to make up for the saliva being aggressively swallowed every 5 seconds
  • truecrimegal2020
Well be produced but not a lot of substance
Sounds like a guy that is a perpetual liar. The women take no responsibility for choosing to continue to be involved with this guys life. Also equating what this guy did to sexual abuse is ridiculous (unless as the consumers of this podcast we just haven’t been informed that he actually did assault someone, then yes go seek justice but so far I haven’t heard this). The show lacks a story and doesn’t really have much. The podcast quality and production is well done.
  • Sashamaus
    Great Storytelling
There are a lot of podcasts on this topic right now, but this one stands out. Wonderfully paced with well-revealed twists, the show still does a great job of the subjects tell their own stories. It’s a truly bonkers con story told with humor and sensitivity, and an incredibly enjoyable binge.
  • acdhdueb
    Boring
So many great con stories why choose this guy? It’s hardly a story at all… and some of these women have the most unbearable voices and it doesn’t sound like they hold themselves accountable at all. Hard pass. Sexual abuse? What a slap in the face to real SA victims.
  • retard_alert
    “survivors”
a bunch of self involved deeply sheltered libs think rape punishable by the law is the same as a guy misleading you to get in your pants.
  • Bellamammal
    Mental illness
Cool. So it’s ok to capitalize on mental illness as long as your personal friend was a victim. Got it.
  • appleacid
    Not particularly interesting
Too many con stories and this one is not special at all. It’s a person with metal illness and you grilled him for an answer. Even if it was just to voice your frustration for your friend, it’s just not the way to do it. What do you expect? Con man is a con man, he is not going to change after this interview. Let go. All you can do is to continue warning other women to avoid being hurt.
  • Sinor Jefe
    Great content.
Stories about women making bad decisions and not holding themselves accountable for it! Love it!
  • Noraleigh66!
    Damaged people
This story was just outrageous. Mordecai is truly despicable and downright disgusting. I’ve seen his picture, and I have listened to his voice and conversation, and I can’t even believe anyone would let him near them. It’s just so gross. It is clear that he targeted very vulnerable damaged women, who, although had hearts of gold, they need to accept some responsibility in this situation. So many red flags, and just weirdness from the very beginning‘s. Why on earth would you let someone like this into your life a second or third time. And if you have never met a person in real life, they cannot be your best friend. It is such a sad state and comment of our current society. But seriously, it’s almost as if they all deserve each other and the misery that comes from it
  • Champine53
    Basic
I do not understand why this podcast got so many good reviews. This is a somewhat boring tale that takes entirely too long to unpack. You could summarize the entire podcast arc as such: Despicable serial abused preys on caring, fragile women. And also, somehow the cops should be blamed.
  • staceyyyyn
    Smh
Another podcast about desperate women who ignore red flags
  • castls123
    He doesn’t have BPD
Usually symptoms don’t continue to present that late in life. He is not a nice man, but I can’t imagine why that is worth an entire podcast. I have family members who lie like this and I’d be devastated if someone created a whole show about them. Waste of time and seemed exploitative to me, tbh.
  • MNBree
    Not that interesting
So Aria dates a man a few weeks finds out he is a liar and goes back for more. Then goes to the cops because (and this is truly shocking) he lies some more. Some of the women are sympathetic and some like Aria make foolish choices. The host is not very interesting. The man is a liar there is no big mystery to uncover here.
  • jeffnanna
    Wow!
Thank you for opening my eyes to what to beware of and look for. Great podcast!!!
  • raisinggirls23
    Disappointing
I cannot believe she said all of the women were progressive so they were more compassionate because of that. She also made a point to keep saying how smart these women were. They seem pretty dumb and desperate to fall for this obvious conman. This podcast is embarrassing. The women tried to say he sexually assaulted them because he misrepresented himself. Wow. Take some personal responsibility. This podcast makes women seem so stupid.
  • 24mongoose
    Fat shaming
They keep being like “she was so nice that she dated this guy even though he said on his profile that his body type was ‘normal’ when really he was fat” like stop characterizing it as “her kind nature” that she let her date a heavier person that’s messed up
  • bingeybecky
    Hmmm
So far so good but it is Adam HoroVITZ not WITZ re the Beastie Boys!
  • Cave99
    Put children first
How about not dating when you children are young and put them and their safety first instead of your own selfish needs and inserting strangers into their lives after the devastation of a divorce. And we get it your liberal, blah blah blah. That seems to go hand in hand with this shallow behavior.
  • mitorr234
    So good
If I taught a podcast class, this would be an example of one that’s so well done. Wish they could all be this good.
  • MylissaR
    What?
All the women were loving and kind so they must be progressive? Give me a break. And the gushing over Trudeau was disgusting. A good podcast ruined.
  • Hachuchu778
    Criminal charge?
Hello! I believe one of the victims has a case for “digital kidnapping” which involves taking photos of other people’s children and pretending they’re your own. Please look into it!!
  • coollonita
    Meh
I read a lot of recommendations for this one on various forums and online searches.. I guess I was expecting it to be really good, I heard it was compelling and interesting. I found it to be really bland, boring and containing a lot of useless filler chatter. More than several times huge chunks could be skipped through basically 10 or more minutes at a time on a single meaningless pointless topic. There are plenty of other catfish/scam podcast which I found a lot more interesting. This one was basic, predictable and not very interesting. A guy using a false name, making up various fairly boring but elaborate backgrounds.. it’s very sad that he tricked several women, and I guess the fact that he sits down for an episode is kind of unique for a long scam podcast like this but not really, the show catfish does that every episode and in their 30-60 segments they are more interesting than the sit down they did with him. I don’t know, it really was kind of boring and pointless. I feel bad saying that because of course I feel awful for the women who were tricked but really it’s not very interesting. Podcast are good time wasters/fillers in general but I ended up feeling like even just the free ear I spent listening was wasted. I wouldn’t recommend as far as scams/catfish stories this one was pretty boring and there are many others that are much more entertaining.

    One of my Favs!
I've listened to A LOT of podcasts and because of that I'm now very picky about what I listen to - this one is worth my precious attention! The story is riveting and I love the way they laid out the story. So well done! Thank you for this podcast. It's compelling and bingeworthy!
