dleviThe Backlog is 5x5Tales from the Backlog covers indie and majors in a very approachable format, with a great host and very notable guests. Spoilers are separate if you hear a game you want to play, and when opting to listen to spoilers, that game you questioned might change your mind. Very thoughtful and well versed approach to all genre of the art we call entertainment.

Doug Core GamingGreat knowledgeable reviews!Where to start? This podcast is great. The host, Dave, certainly does his research and you can tell on first listen how much effort goes into each episode. As for presentation, this show doesn’t have the typical nerdy game reviewer voice/inflection or the drummed up anger etc that many gaming podcasts have. In fact, quite the opposite, as this podcast is done with a calming, charming voice at a pace that makes you feel like you are having a discussion with a friend. I often find myself listening to Dave’s thoughts on games I’ve already played because he has insights and opinions that I haven’t had on my own. The format of the show is great, with some information up front and guest intros and a nice flow into the breakdown of the game du jour. I also appreciate the way episodes are split - half no spoiler, half spoiler. All in all, can’t recommend enough. I’m always looking forward to the next Tales episode as well as Dave’s other much less serious Pod, “A Top 3 Podcast”.

KingPenelopeOne of the bestDave Jackson and his many excellent guests are a joy to listen to. For me, this is the right level of detail to talk about games at. He’s covered tons of games, both big and small, and I’m a big fan of some of the more obscure titles.

CoveltineOne of the bestDave hosts a fantastic podcast. The in depth deep dives into every game he covers is fascinating and always well worth a listen. And the spoiler wall policy allows people who have never experienced the game before, learn all about it without the story getting spoiled.
-
JalachanFabulous Show, Thorough TreatmentDave & his guests do a fantastic job covering all aspects of the game of the week. There's a spoiler wall so folks can tune in and learn the gist of the game safely (and can then go play it if they want). Always a lot of fun. Definitely recommend!

Jenneh_Thoughtful and thorough game discussionsNew listener here! I listened to two episodes: Chained Echoes and The Forbidden City. Great format and set up with a host and a guest discussing the game, the host does a good job in pushing the conversation along and redirecting if necessary. It could be the two episodes I picked, but I like when podcasts review media they actually enjoy, rather than spending 2+ hour bashing something. While there were criticisms of the games, those were thoughtful and made sense, rather than just complaining. The brief music breaks were good palate cleansers to move on to new topics without disrupting the flow of the show. I found myself nodding along to the commentary and agreeing with most of their assessments of the games – I’ll have to listen to one with a game I don’t necessarily like to see if I still agree 😊 As an aside, thank you for so thoroughly covering the Forgotten City and its endings! I started that game, played for awhile and LOVED it, but got too scared when I realized what was going on with the statues and had to quit. Great podcast! I’m subscribed and will definitely be checking out the backlog.

MYSHIFTKEYISBROKEI Laughed, I Cried, I Urged to Play the Outer Wilds DLCStumbled across the pod via the Spiritfarer ep and teared up a handful of times in the listen, which I believe is gaming pod listening first for me. A large chunk of the credit for those tears no doubt goes to the game itself, which is Niagra Falls Frankie angel throughout if you haven’t partook, but there’s no question that Dave and his guests’ emotional intelligence played a hand in it…and that’s good poddin’, folks. - Josh, Imperial Scrolls of Honor podcast dude

janan1216Backlog Warriors Unite!A stand out example of what makes a video game based podcast worth listening too, a man that really appreciates the medium. As a person with my own out of control backlog I can respect the hustle.

MatterofMDeep Diving with Handy Dandy Spoiler wallsThere’s no fear on whether or not you’re going to be spoiled on a game that is covered on this show. A deep dive into each game where no stone is unturned with a handy spoiler section mentioned and time stamped for you. This is a great way to learn if a game is for you or not. Highly recommend.

oldbrothergamingBefore Your Eyes - Will be playing because of them!Well, I have listened to a few episodes over the last few days. The Before Your Eyes episode has intrigued me and I actually stopped listening after the spoiler warning so I can go play, then pop back in afterwords! Dave, you have a soothing/calming podcast voice, highly recommended for all those interested in learning about games!

mike_163688Engaging PodcastDave and his guests give a fantastic entertaining synopsis of popular games. Clearly drawn spoiler breaks, allow you to stop if you plan of checking them out. The honest care he puts in describing the game as well as it’s shortcomings makes this an easy listen.
-
BatmanChalup@Deep dive into gamesDave and guests really go in depth about every game they cover. I love that they keep spoilers to the end so you can listen even if you haven't played the game yet. I've been wanting to play It Takes Two and now I know a little or what to expect. Definitely gonna keep listening!
-
@obeyer10❤️Loved the Returnal ep! Def one of my fave games from last year. Keep up the great work! - liv from Between 2 Gamers
-
RyanPlayerOneRepects Spoilers and Your TimeDave and his consistently phenomenal guests discuss the game of the week at length before diving into any story spoilers whatsoever and it's honestly hard to describre the value of TFTBL's "spoiler wall". This one element of the show has helped me both 1. knock games off of my backlog (because I know I wouldn't like the mechanics in it) and 2. Find some of the best games I have played in the last year without ever having anything spoiled. Every week this show offers deep dives with great insight, it's truly a gaming podcast that should be on everyone's playlist.

andrewjk93Time flies byThe episode may be long but you won’t even notice because the conversations are top notch. Dave does a fantastic job of hosting the conversation while letting his guests geek out about whatever game is being discussed on the episode. The spoiler wall is a great idea that lets everyone enjoy the show whether they’ve beat the game or not!
