Seattle Nice

13

It’s getting harder and harder to talk about politics, especially if you disagree. Well, screw that. Seattle Nice aims to be the most opinionated and smartest analysis of what’s really happening in Seattle politics available in any medium. Each episode dives into contentious and sometimes ridiculous topics, exploring perspectives from across Seattle's political spectrum, from city council brawls to the ways the national political conversation filters through our unique political process. Even if you’re not from Seattle, you need to listen to Seattle Nice. Because it’s coming for you. Unlike the sun, politics rises in the West and sets in the East.

    Needs a better progressive voice
The host/moderator is doing double-duty being the thoughtful progressive as well because Erica seems content to do drive-by social media takes

Well-informed conversations among people who know a lot about Seattle

    Erica C Barnett
Her reporting on and knowledge of Seattle and regional issues is unparalleled. Make sure to sign up for her amazing local-news newsletter, PubliCola, as well.

    Left Meets Right
Ericka always comes to the show with direct reporting and evidence and Sandeep makes up for his lack of these things by emphatically swearing and inventing anecdotes. What’s not to love about this show?

Fun and dynamic conversations about the nitty gritty Seattle politics

    Getting tired of format
They are pretty predictable - Sandeep testing out his political talking points, Erica constantly asserting that she’s a real journalist. It is not really informative or entertaining. Wearing a little thin…

Easy and entertaining place to catch up on Seattle politics
Seattle Nice is one of my favorite podcasts. Great way to understand Seattle politics. Only wish it came out more often.

    Love this pod
Love this show. Sometimes I think Erica is delusional and sometimes I think Sandeep is too much of a political consultant but always I love it. I recommend to everyone I know who lives in Seattle and loves podcasts.

This pod has improved and is worth a listen
I’m sure conservatives give 3-4 star ratings because there aren’t many places outside of their TVs tuned to Faux News where they get to giggle when a bomb throwing conservative spits out right leaning talking points. Lucky for them they have Sandeep. When this pod started, I was harsh on Sandeep on Twitter because he tended to offer little substance. When he leans in on local conservadem thinking or strategy , it’s a far better show. He’s done more such analysis than early on, and thank goodness because otherwise only Erica and David are to be taken seriously. That said, like her or not, Erica is the consistent rock on this program. David is busting his butt at NPR, but needs to referee here more. Sometimes it feels like he walks into the booth and tosses out a topic and then runs away. Just a tiny bit more buttoning up (and adding guest interviews, imho), and this program would have legs, and one more star in my rating. I wish them all well because there’s nothing else like it in this market, and it is a good source for info about local politics - as maddening as local politics can be.

Great podcast for Seattle politics and events
I always enjoy hearing more about what’s happening in Seattle! I appreciate that the hosts don’t attempt to plaster over their differences with niceties.

    Gets to the real dynamics

Informative and sharp at Seattle’s confounding urban politics
Sandeep and Erica are my favorite frenemies

    !!!
One star less because of Erika, I do not think she is living in the Seattle reality, oftentimes she does sound like someone who has never been to Seattle… it saddens me how twisted her view on city’s current absolutely horrifying situation. The more I listen to this pod, the more I realize she must be live in delusion… or she just cracks b2b jokes. Either way, I gotta zone out whatever she says because its pure madness. I appreciate Sandeep on the show… at least we have someone who does understands what’s happening around us. Great voice of the people of Seattle!

Great episodes lately! I wish some candidate interviews would be done more often.

The only source for Seattle political analysis
If you have any connection to Seattle it’s a must listen

    Please replace Sandeep
Erica and David are great. With these two alone, this is a 4-star podcast. One less star because community of color interests aren’t really represented here, and when so much of seattle politics is about the displacement of those communities, it feels like a real oversight. Three less stars because Sandeep is cruel and mean-spirited. Additionally, his political analysis is often hollow and he constantly shifts the frame of the debate whenever he feels exposed. He spends almost the entirety of his air time being defensive, attacking leftist activists instead of making a positive case for what he believes in. I’ve listened to almost every episode and I couldn’t tell you what he believes in — other than serving as a good spokesman for clients.

    A great show!
A must-listen for any Seattle dweller. Goes deep into the local/regional issues with insight and humor.

    Sandeep has gotta go
Politically, I think I fall closer to Sandeep than Erica. But wow wow Sandeep is such a bad faith debater. Luckily Erica is terrific at not letting him get away with everything, but it’s infuriating that as soon as he starts to lose an argument he changes the topic, makes ad hominem attacks, etc. He may have a long list of startistics to bring up, but he debates like Trump and dodges any question or argument once Erica starts to point out the flaws in his logic.

    Sandeep makes this show unlistenable
If I wanted to hear a reactionary man argue in bad faith for 45 minutes straight I’d give my grandfather a call

    Actual factual debate!
We need more of this in the world. While the right vs left war is fought through so much emotional posturing for votes, Seattle Nice gives us a much more useful conversation on specific issues with agreed upon facts.

Entertaining and takes me outside the new media echo chamber
This podcast has moved to the top of my list because I love hearing the different perspectives on what's really happening in Seattle and other places.

    Go deeper
I love staying up to date on Seattle politics. Erica and Sandeep are great foils for one another. It’s so rare to see actual well-meaning disagreements on any political shows these days, local or national. As the moderator, David needs to push on his co-hosts more, Warren Olney-style, to press them to respond to the point the other person made and not just go back to talking their book. Also wish there was more county/regional politics. Seattle gets all the ink.

    Unite Seattle with Nice
Apparently where you listen to your podcasts matters theses days. Who knew? Apple Podcasts continues to be my preferred platform. Thanks to Seattle Nice for bridging the ideological chasm between Seattle’s activist-left and center-left. Keep up the good work! Yes, I’m trolling you.

3 stars are for Erica C Barnett
I was excited for a pod that could breakdown current events in our region. Sadly, only Erica offers clear concise analysis. The other guy is sadly a condescending, name-calling mansplaining blowhard. It’s not a matter of disagreeing or not with him. It’s tone and arrogance. Life is too short to subject myself to this guy. So I either skip the pod or fast forward through his toxic blather. Get someone less “Crossfire” to join Erica in a constructive discussion about the issues facing Seattle.
