I know this is a painting podcast, but it would be cool if you could interview some sculptors. Great show!

    Invaluable
I cannot tell you how many times I’ve found myself nodding in agreement with the discussions, being gobsmacked by the art, and running for a notebook to write something down that I want to remember for my own art. Jeff is an interviewer extraordinaire, and for me, the opportunity to (virtually) meet so many artists I admire, is just invaluable. Please never stop this podcast. Update: just finished the 100th episode. I wanted so badly to jump through the screen and join you all! I crave the kinds of art discussions you were having. Thank you for this little bit of camaraderie! Pure gold.

    The Undraped Artist
Jeff Hein gives a lively, information packed, clear podcast. He’s invested in his guests, he clearly is in awe and excitable. He learns, but WE are learning so so much from every podcast. Great show, great guests.

    The Ali Cavanaugh Interview
Jeff I am one of Ali’s Aligators. I became aware of you and your career from attending 24’ portrait Society. I’ve been following you and listening to your interviews since April. I have learned such valuable insights into techniques, approaches, and how to live happily as an artist from your conversations. I am not a great artist. I am a new artist. And yet I feel so in tune with the people that you speak with. Lately you have been asking what is art. To me it is never just about the finished product. The product becomes art when you feel and know the story or the person behind it. It may have been beautiful before, but after it is always undeniably richer. This is something I also felt about your family portrait at the society this last April. Your interview with Ali was definitely art. I’ve had the great luck and honor to get to know her a little bit over the last year or so. She always surprises me. But after this interview with her, my appreciation of her is undeniably richer. I honestly find her to be a international treasure. I am so glad more people can get to know her through your podcast.

    The best artist podcast!
Jeff Hein is a master painter & modern day Renaissance man, but he’s also a smart & engaging host of this unique artist podcast. And you don’t have to be an artist to be entertained by the insightful conversations between Jeff & his talented guests. As a painter, I’ve learned so much just listening to the artists & art professionals talk about their craft. With Jeff’s humor interjected & unique style of interviewing, the Undraped Artist is definitely worth a listen! I highly recommend following & supporting Jeff’s podcast!

    Inspiring!
Jeff Hein is incredible at the long format interview. Due to his high proficiency as an artist and instructor; his questions are of a high magnitude. His ability to be curious and dig into the technical aspects of the artists he has on is second to none. The opportunity to listen to artists of a high caliber each week talk about craft and expression is incredible. Podcasts like these have the opportunity to build up the artist community and inform it on such a deep level.

    I’m not an artist but…
But I love this podcast. I just like to learn about the background of these different artists and why and how they do what they do. Jeff Hein is a great artist and interviewer and talks to artists that no one else in the podcast space is aware of.

    Favorite art podcast
Undraped Artist is by far my favorite podcast, I have been following it for years and I can tell you it just gets better. Guests that Jeff invites are successful artists and inspiring people. I love the unique structure of podcast: first half discussion about artist’s journey, second half - discussion about art making, nuts and bolts about technique, process, meaning behind paintings, which is accompanied by visuals ( you don’t want to miss that part, and for that you must watch episode on youtube channel). Can’t wait for next episode!

    My studio companion
I love this podcast, I listen to it while I’m in my studio. Usually I have to reserve listening to it when I’m doing something that requires less concentration (like setting up my palette or cleaning brushes) because there is SO much valuable information being delivered in every second of the show, that you almost need to be taking notes while listening. In fact, I have a little journal full of technical tips and quotes that I have come from these interviews. I’ve loved every guest Jeff had interviewed and they truly are top tier artists. With Jeff being such a talented artist himself, it’s no surprise that the artists he chooses to interview are phenomenal in their own right. What I love most though is that the podcast isn’t just limited to technical information, but goes deep into each artist’s story and journey. It’s in that part of the conversation where we as listeners get to hear echoes of our own journeys while getting to know those interviewed on a deeper level. All in all, this podcast has blessed me and brought a richness into my studio that wasn’t there before. Thanks Jeff!

    The best!

    Amazing Podcast!
This is such an amazing resource for Artist of all kinds! Jeff has tapped into one of the most positive aspect of technology which is our opportunity to learn from working Artist around the world! His podcast provides us a window into the daily lives, processes and thoughts of our contemporary Artist. He has provided a platform that I feel the guest Artist really appreciate and feel comfortable with. I think this allows them to really open up and maybe talk about aspects of being a working Artist that are not so glamorous, more, the reality of it. Truly eye opening! Bravo Jeff! Great job!

One of the best podcasts for oil painters!!
Jeff is an amazing host and really asks his guests insightful questions. He only interviews the best of the best, and they cover how the artist got started, how they make a living, why they paint, they dissect different pieces of art, and it’s all really helpful to seasoned and aspiring artists. Keep up the good work!

Invaluable conversations with artists, for artists
I can’t say enough great things about this podcast; Jeff Hein’s conversations with contemporary realist artists working today have become required listening in my podcast rotation while I paint. You’ll learn about working methods, professional experience, and receive inspiration in the process. As a host, Jeff is incredibly generous with his knowledge and information, and with his time! I’m not sure how he manages to be a weekly podcast host in addition to teaching and being an amazing painter, but he’s covering it all. Thank you, Jeff, for making these conversations happen, I’m very grateful!!

The best Art podcast out there
Simply the best art podcast out there. Not only is Jeff an accomplished artist himself but the quality of artists he gets on the show and the questions he asks are like getting to listen into two master artist’s conversations. Additionally, adding the video is next level and you can follow along as they talk about the art they are discussing.

The best art podcast out there!
Learning so much from all these awesome interviews.
  • Halcyondaz
    The best artist interviewer
The best studio visit isn’t a tour around an artists painting space but the tour around their inner methodologies, this podcast gives you a deep dive into what the artists are thinking. The best bits are the candid thoughts of angst and frustration, and how they problem solve. Highly recommend!!

    Inspired and Encouraged
I’ve enjoyed each one of these interviews. I have usually listened to podcasts while working or driving but I’ve found myself going back and watching the videos too. Some of the talks have opened up my eyes to ways of thinking about painting from life, Plein air, color, and more! For perspective I live in a fairly rural area but the conversations here have given a reinforced sense of our community as artists. My art hero’s sound like peers as they discuss the same battles and thoughts so many of us have in the studio. The curiosity and quality of specific and technical questions Jeff asks are exactly the things I wish he would ask and sometimes questions I didn’t know I wanted to hear! It’s awesome and I’ve learned things and realized there were resources out there I didn’t know about. The content is so excellent! I love this and look forward to every episode.

    TIME WELL SPENT!
Pretty much every interview has been a good investment of my time. Jeff is amazing at getting great insights from his guests. At times the content is so good that I feel like I need to get a notebook out and take notes…which I do. I have paid good money to attend multiple conferences for artists and will continue to do so, because they have been great and I love the face-to-face interaction with other artists! But when it comes to learning about individual artists, their background and experiences as an artist, and often times, even, technique and processes, Jeff’s podcasts interviews rival anything that I have ever heard at a conference. And all from the convenience of not having to go anywhere. no plane ticket. No hotel room. No conference fee. No meals on the road. Just an awesome conference right in the palm of your hand… Or on your desktop. Do yourself a favor and take some of that money you didn’t have to spend on planes, trains and automobiles, and contribute what you can monthly to the the podcast so that we can keep getting such great content!

    Unparalleled Art Instruction
Jeff Hein is a very talented listener and artist giving him the ability to truly hear his guests and pivot as the conversation opens to new futures. Jeff’s broad understanding of the academic art world, from art schools and galleries to commissions, gives him the ability to ask very insightful questions that benefit the listener immensely. Having a practicing artist interview a very well curated group of other practitioners make the conversations much more rich with important information than many interviews with art journalists, curators or historians who’ve never picked up a paint brush. In The Undraped Podcast you’ll hear and connect with current artist’s life stories, their formation in the arts and working methods as well as the variety of business disciplines in the arts field. Occasionally Jeff also includes conversations with “dead artists” via interviews with Micah Christensen a rare art historian more interested in the working methods of artists than, as many art historians normally are, how many mistresses they had. As an artist currently in pursuit of being “so good that they can’t ignore me” this podcast has been more helpful than my art college was. Thank you Jeff for your hard work and dedication to bringing this often lost information to us! Caroline A. Reynolds

    I’ve learned so much
I sit and listen to the podcasts as my dad is recording them and learn so so much. Every artist he talks to has a different story and a different background and one way or another they all succeeded in doing what they love. They all are very unique and I learn tons about the artists individually and about how they draw and paint. I definitely recommend if you are wanting to to learn more about art and how to do it, or even if you are just interested in the life of an artist.

The holy grail of art podcasts
Just wow. I’m an art-podcast-aholic and have listened to what I previously thought was the best, but Jeff Hein’s podcasts blows everyone out of the water! I LOVE THIS PODCAST and I haven’t even seen all the video versions yet, so I’m gonna listen (and watch) a second time. What a way to learn about artists’, their process, their inspirations- so many new ideas to explore. Lightbulbs going off like crazy! Every interview is super authentic and gets me super excited to paint more. Learning so much! Keep going, Jeff! You’re a pro!

Your questions were spot on. It’s now marked in my favorites to listen to while I create. I actually purchased some mentor sessions with Joe and am learning SO much (I highly recommend). Favorite Painting Podcast
Jeff Hein is a great interviewer, really getting these amazingly talented artists to open up about their careers, their motivations and specific works of art. I listen to the audio version when am driving or working out and then go back and watch the video version to see the specific paintings being described. As an amateur painter looking to improve, this is easily my favorite podcast about painting.

    Top notch
If you enjoy seeing art, this one is for you! Fascinating way to hear the mind of the artist. We get to visually see their work but this is a way to understand at a depth you’ll never read off a description label next to their hanging art work. It’s motivating, humbling and educational all in one! Great listen.

    This Man Gets It!
Jeff Hein has really done a wonderful job interviewing today’s top realist artists. Not to be missed. Jeff asks thoughtful questions to better understand his guests point of view and does so like a pro because he is one of the top living realist artist himself. Amateur or seasoned artist will enjoy!
