Katjeslex1231Let Scott Speak!!This is an absolutely amazing podcast. I would give it 5 stars but JD is just too much. I tune in to hear Scott Powell teach. JD comes in and interrupts, argues, and generally slows down Powell’s dynamic exegesis. He has to often be corrected and we even hear at times that JD’s random and unrelated questions take time away from Powell’s explanations. It’s absolutely obnoxious, and I have spoken to many listeners who feel the same way. Please, please, please get out of Powell’s way.

143LisaDisapointedSo shocked to hear JD swear throughout this episode… I don’t think I can listen anymore. Thank you Scott and Kate for your insight and maybe I will tune in again when the shock wears off

47071911EXCELLENT! Subscribe now.It is so great to hear Dr. Scott Powell on a podcast again explaining scripture. This podcast follows the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church, but the Bible is for all and Scott Powell explanations and unraveling of The Word is gentle and down to earth. Dr Powell teaches at a level that a primary school child can understand bringing depth and life to the word of God. Thanks to JD, Pillar and Scott and for hosting this awesome, always with me Sunday School class!

BovineNoisesBring it back!I obviously don’t know the metrics behind the show, but I love the breakdown. As far as season go, I think Romans is the strongest and Psalms the weakest, just because letters are better suited to the format than poetry. Perhaps this, or something like it, can become a subscriber incentive?

JATBosAwesomeI listened during my Camino de Santiago and learned much of Jesus Christ and my faith - thank you!!

Long distance fiancéHelpful and insightfulThis is a solid podcast (I’ve listened to the season on Mark twice as well) and I find Dr Powell’s insights to be enlightening. The only improvement I would suggest is to remove the level of banter and interruptions. At the beginning is one thing, but there are several times when Scott is making his point but has his thoughts interrupted by jokes or unnecessary comments.

allentowntigerRomans Sunday SchoolExcellent content. Even though the content was clear I will be listening at least once more (and probably more often) to absorb the many great points. Thanks!

ceekay48Letter to the RomansI really wanted to like this podcast series and learn about the Letter to the Romans, but it is hard to get to get to the point of the passages because of all the laughter, frivolity and interruptions. I think I am looking for a more straight forward instruction.

LongfordboyRomansToo much buddy boy bantering before discussion O have noticed other podcasts do the same Very childish and distracting

:)MayaRSpiritually EnrichingThis show has been such a blessing! The way that Dr. Scott presents the information is so accessible and really emphasizes God’s love for humanity. I love learning about the historical and linguistic nuances in the Bible, it greatly enriches my own prayer and relationship with the Lord. Plus, JD gives some great analogies and asks the kind of questions that I had, too. Keep it up!

AndrewcjfosterSuch a great podcast!I have listened to Dr. Powell ever since his days on the Lanky Guys and have loved this podcast since I have started listening. The mini season on the infancy narratives of Luke was incredible! It was so nice to go slow and deep in the passages even though they weren’t that long. There aren’t very many Catholic podcasts that walk you through the Bible this way - definitely worth a listen!
-
SouthernRunnerGreat podcast on the Bible! It’s so fun to have Dr. Scott Powell back on the air. His depth of knowledge is amazing and he and JD have a good rapport. I have to admit that I do miss the Lank. 🤣
-
sursuum cordaThe best!Excellent bible commentary!

@DC3Thoughtful and accessible!Been missing Dr. Scott Powell from the Lanky Guys podcast. So happy he’s back with the incomparable J.D. Flynn doing his typically insightful teaching on sacred scripture! This podcast is sharp, witty, funny, and exceptionally accessible to my untrained mind. Thanks to The Pillar for giving us this wonderful show!

Grace_from_the_pewGreat bite-sized Bible bitsI LOVE Sunday School! It takes me back to my Scripture classes in college. Each episode Dr. Powell dives into something new to to me that helps the Scriptures come alive.
-
2030catlinExtraordinaryIt's hard to say how incredible this podcast is both educationally and spiritually. I hope Dr. Powell and J D Flynn will have sessions on the other Gospels and other books of the Bible as well. Learning the contemporary history and the correlation with the Old Testament truly brings Jesus to life in a different way.
-
Alli ShambroHighly recommendThis podcast is enlightening and easy to listen to! Dr. Powell is a great teacher and I have learned a lot. Really hoping they continue to cover other books of the Bible!

someonehastobemarthaCan’t wait for the next episode!Engaging and enlightening. This podcast provides the depth I’ve been looking for. I appreciate JD’s questions and his willingness to be wrong. Scott’s explanations are clear and thorough, going down just the right amount of rabbit holes to be fun while still keeping his focus on the point of the episode. I have learned so much already. Thank you! Nice reading, Ed. Excellent all around.

HeyMegRowDeep Biblical KnowledgeI loved Bible in a Year because it got millions of people reading the Bible cover-to-cover. I'm loving this podcast for the deep dive into scripture. I'm learning new things from Scott and enjoying Ed's proclaiming God's word. JD does a great job hosting, of course. Thank you , Pillar!
-
Dr. SherAbsolutely excellent!I love the format of this podcast and appreciate the deep Bible teaching! I love that we are able to get into some great biblical analysis. I can’t wait to go through every book of the Bible with this podcast!!

Creechcr8vBest podcast EVERI am learning so much; thank you!

More Like MaryFinally!!It’s isn’t hyperbolic to say that this will be *the* best Bible podcast ever produced. Dr Powell taught me so much about the Scripture Story through his previous podcast (Lanky Guys) but I always felt the lectionary format was scattered and left me wanting more. This is exactly what I was wanting. The conversational style is perfect for learning in an accessible, casual way. Dr Powell’s vast knowledge and ability to break things down at a level I can wrap my brain around is unmatched. I appreciate the beautiful oral reading of the passages and also the time stamp given so I can easily skip it if I’ve read the passages myself. The Pillar designed this format perfectly and chose the perfect team to deliver it. Well done. This will bless me and so many others with greater knowledge and love of the Word.

H EccentrifugeGreat Catholic Bible StudyI’m so excited for this Bible study. Having listened to the first episode, I’d say this podcast is what it must be like to enroll in a Scripture class at college—without having to read dense exegetical/historical texts or write papers. So easy! And free! Plus, the conversational style between Dr. Scott and JD is very easy to follow, as opposed to listening to a college lecture-style commentary. (Those are good, too, but this is better.) A+ reading by Ed, A+ commentary with JD and Dr. Scott, F for the irritating transition music. Super excited for the rest of Mark’s Gospel, and the biblical books to come.
-
DianeSHVInsightful and fascinatingSunday School strikes a fantastic balance of scholarship and insight with everyday language, so I don’t have to be a scholar to understand. I could do without the doodley doo transition music - reminds me of Wayne’s World. 😆 That said, I learned a ton and can’t wait for the next one!

Coach MahrGlad Scott is back in the airBeen an avid listener and reader of Dr Scott Powell for about a decade and glad to see him re-emerge to share his insight. Great context to help understand the word of God
-
S. ArnauA must-listen!Engaging, enlightening, both down to earth and luminous… a marvelous offering by The Pillar, for which I am deeply grateful. Thank you, JD and Ed (wonderful reading), and of course Dr. Scott Powell.
-
Karen SanDiegoThe Pillar Sunday SchoolCongratulations on a fabulous first episode! Everything from the reading in Ed’s expressive, melodious voice to Scott’s clear explanations to the keen repartee between JD and Scott is engaging and compelling. I’m eagerly anticipating what’s to follow.
