World Corrupt

The world’s most-watched sporting competition this year will not be a feel-good affair. FIFA, soccer’s corrupt governing body, awarded the 2022 edition of the World Cup to Qatar via bribery. The teams, players, and fans of the game must now grapple with the complexities of an ethically fraught, morally bankrupt tournament already soaked in blood and oil– a sportswashed public relations exercise for Qatar that has cost an untold amount of migrant workers their lives since the announcement was made. This dilemma is at the core of World Corrupt, a joint effort from Men in Blazers and Crooked Media. The series will be hosted by two friends, Men in Blazers’ Roger Bennett and Pod Save the World’s Tommy Vietor. Roger’s deep understanding of football history and Tommy’s geopolitical analysis will combine to help listeners understand the tectonic plates shifting under the sporting events they love, and empower them to simultaneously revel in the sporting genius on display, and take action against the grave injustices that have been wrought.

One of the best podcasts I've ever listened to
FANTASTIC pod - I wish it was a regular series! The hosts' dynamic is magic. Great reporting and insight on the intersections between sports, politics, and human rights. Wish I could listen to this every day.

Each Season Is Better Than The Last
I am looking forward to future seasons to come of this podcast. The hosts vibe off each other so well and I want to laugh and cry while listening to the history. They both are such excellent storytellers and human beings. This is a must listen if you like sports or politics, or history!

    Thanks
Thank you both for continuing to beat the drum on these issues and making it a bit more difficult for the footballing world to ignore how the sausage is actually made. Cheers 🍻

    missed opportunity
unlistenable. the tone of this podcast is so off ... i don't get the jovial wisecracking approach to this topic. i think chatty podcasts with hosts who think they are simply hilarious ... not my bag

    Season 2!
I didn’t start listening until season 2, and I am so happy I didn't miss more! After having gone back to listen to season 1 and starting season 2 I can say this is the most entertaining show that talks about rather unfunny things. The hosts have such a good repartee and I am constantly learning and laughing

    Interesting podcast
I’m not very familiar with the topic so it has been a great listen so far. I started with season 2 and then headed back to season 1 to catch up. I love the conversation but I’m a big fan of PSA and PSW! Similar format with great dialog.

    So Fascinating and Heartbreaking
Love the podcast, but it kinda breaks my heart to know how effective athletes, owners, and sports fans could be at putting pressure on political and social corruption and how little they choose to use their influence. I was truly hoping all free democratic countries would boycott the Qatar WC. Money must really talk. Heartbreaking 💔

    Could Have Been Much Better
I’m writing this review after the World Cup has been completed, & I never watched a single game. This podcast had so much promise of trying to better highlight the tremendous issues around this World Cup (human rights, corruption). The hosts spend so much time chatting and lengthening the ad reads; we all understand the basic idea of sponsorship, but read and get it done so we can get back to the topic. There was not a lot of depth to the topics, most of what I managed to listen too was in published articles and the headlines. Maybe I was not the target audience, I try to read as much as I can find when I topics of corruption come up in the news. This is just an opinion from one person, but I still VERY MUCH appreciate the effort of the hosts to attempt this podcast; even if the podcast was not “my cup of tea” it’s good that is available to the masses.

    Meh
Light on facts and info, very heavy on commentary. And barely a mention of the NY trial of FIFA officials, which was certainly relevant here. A decent listen overall, but not nearly as good as RB’s series on the US Men’s World Cup team. And Rog can’t miss an opportunity to heap praise on the vulgar/obnoxious and overrated Megan Rapinoe, which he does here, apropos of nothing.

    The real World Cup story
Roger brings soccer and Tommy brings global politics and together they are insightful, hilarious, and inspiring. A great listen, thanks. PS Hope there’s one more episode to capture the amazing final match.

    Love the content
I love everything that Crooked Media puts out, this included. I love Rog’s commentary but honestly find him annoying to listen to. Just being honest.

    Great chemistry!
This has become my favorite podcast, and I don’t even like sports. Rog and Tommy have the best chemistry of any podcast hosts, and they’re so dang funny!

    Exposing deep-rooted corruption at FIFA
Kudos Roger and Tommy for exposing the unimaginable level of CORRUPTION at FIFA. I hope this and the Netflix series helps change this.

    Infotainment at its finest
Solid information and insight with just enough humor to help process the dark absurdity of FIFA and Qatar 2022
