    My Least Favorite Casefile
The narration is horrid. The style of this podcast is not what I’m accustomed to with Case file. Typically the podcast is structured in a way that they’re telling you the story and giving you information and each section builds on the other and moves you forward in the story. This podcast does not do that. It jumps around to seemingly inconsequential occurrences and doesn’t tie back how those occurrences contribute to the case that the podcast is based on. So much of this podcast feels like the writers wanted to reminisce about their days listening to music and clubbing and Brent’s story almost seems secondary to that. I’m trying to get through the whole podcast. I’m to the O.J. Simpson episode but I don’t know if I’m gonna make it.

    Horrible narrator
The narrator has an incredibly annoying lisp which makes it impossible to listen too no matter how interesting the material is

    AI robot voice - Lazy
Someone wrote a podcast and then fed it to a robot to read. I couldn’t get past the first 10 minutes. It’s a shame a great podcast like casefile would ‘present’ this.

Pass. The description sounded so good so I’m disappointed.
  • this show used to be good
    Boring liberal garbage
Typical of nose in the air liberal pod past nowadays. You can just hear the virtue signaling in the trash.

    Well Written and Researched
Thankful to see (hear) someone finally doing a deep dive into this case!

    This Can Be Solved
Deep Dive from people who lived it. Unbelievable this case has never been solved. This Podcast has a real shot at breaking the case, by bringing the story and evidence to the the masses. If you were part of this early 90’s Hollywood scene …. Spread the word for this podcast. Someone knows something.

    Meh
It’s very slow moving and jumps from story to story. It’s dragging on and on and I’m only on episode two. This really could be summed up much quicker. Just not holding my interest so I’m unsubscribing.

    It was a good idea?
I was excited to listen to this, but I have never heard someone speak as if they were so bored with something in my entire life. Her monotone voice spewing with boredom is too much even for me.

    Can’t do it!
It’s her voice and cadence. This is not her story. Your narrating rand interviewing rockstars… at-least try to sound normal.

    Great podcast
    Interesting listen. Thanks for making!

    Worth the listen
This was a well done podcast. If you have a 4 minute attention span you will not like it. If you need lots of stimulation instead of listening, you may not like it. It’s a deep dive. Well done. Took me right back to those years. Makes me very curious about who murdered Brett Cantor and why. I feel for his family. What a sad story.

    Truth is Stranger Than Fiction
It's crazy to see all the fake negative troll reviews, which are deeply disrespectful to the victim, Brett Cantor, and his family. The podcast focuses on a detailed 3-year cold case investigation into the unsolved murder of music executive and Dragonfly nightclub owner, Brett Cantor, on July 30, 1993, led by two retired LA homicide detectives. It follows the history of his case from 1993 to 2023. The series offers exclusive interviews with Brett's family, friends, and the original homicide detectives assigned to the case. In a chilling twist, just two weeks ago, on July 30, 2023, a bouncer from Dragonfly was murdered — marking the exact 30-year anniversary of Brett Cantor’s 1993 murder. It's a heartbreaking story but a must-listen.

    Waste of time
I kept waiting for it to get better…..but, no. Lots of extraneous talk, talk, talk, with really no relationship to the story. Narrator talks to S-L-O-W and has an annoying voice. No thanks.

Narration is distractingly bad but interesting story
The upspeak is awful. Odd phrasing … and intonation - where all \ sentences? are questions with… weird pauses?

    Creepy narration
Flat AI voice, no thank you

    Reassembling a puzzle
A great deal of care, research, and love has obviously gone into creating this podcast. There is a picture painted that leaves an indelible images of past eras, and those who helped create them. Thank you🙏

    AI
The whole thing AI voiceovers. It’s jarring. Just pay some folks to read lines. Or hire people who dont sound like robots

    I liked most of it…
But not sure how Harvey Weinstein (supposedly, as he was accused of sexually assaulting Rose McGowan but a federal judge threw out/dismissed her case in 2019) warrants so much gd real estate in it. While RM did later “date” Brett Cantor for a very short period of time before his death, HW is/was completely irrelevant to the storyline. IMO, it seems like it was dropped into the podcast for no other reason than pure shock value and lack of other substantial content. There are a ton of podcasts about HW and if I wanted to listen to stories about that creepy, predatory oaf, I would. Aside from that, it’s a little too rehearsed and stuff in the delivery but I’m still giving it 4 stars because it contains enough interesting info about life in LA/Hollywood during the 80’s and 90’s.

    Really Well Researched
Great Personal touch and super deep dive! RIP Brett

    Scripted
Everything is read from a script totally awkward. Even the people being interviewed are reading badly from a script.

    Interesting Podcast!
I loved this podcast! Dragonfly reveals the finding of their 3 year cold case investigation into the 1993 unsolved murder of music executive Brett Cantor. The series follows the history of his case from 1993 to 2023 and highlights other high profile crimes Brett’s case may be connected to. It also features several interviews with his family, friends, music promoters, and the original homicide detectives assigned to his case. I found all the information fascinating and hearing about the new leads that may help solve Brett’s murder. Another excellent podcast from Casefile. I binged the whole series. I hope they solve the case. RIP Brett!

    goes nowhere
phew this thing really goes nowhere. and i agree the OK detour is unnecessary i skipped most of that as if we don’t know the OJ story come on now…sticking it out bc need something to listen to but it’s a slog

    Not up to Casefile Standards
I was so disappointed. Brett Cantor’s case deserves a better effort. A Casefile produced podcast should be better than this. Many of the participants sound like they are reading from their books. There are weird tangents into topics with limited relevance (ok, Brett’s murder came up in OJ trial, but we don’t need a thesis on why the jury voted they way it did). I’m not sure how River Phoenix fits in. It’s like a winding road through Hollywood scandals. Not worthy of the Casefile name.

Not what I expected from Casefile (in a bad way)
Casefile is one of my favorite true crime podcasts, so seeing this Casefile Presents miniseries I expected the same quality that I know (and pay for). Ugh, it’s not even close. Firstly, the narrator needs to take a radio communications class, or a class that teaches you not to put weird and distracting inflections on the last syllables of words!! Other reviews were probably saying her voice sounds like AI because it appears she doesn’t know how end words without a falling inflection. The subject matter is actually quite interesting, although this podcast should have been 7 episodes MAX! We did not need an entire episode about OJ Simpson’s trial to introduce the fact that his defense lawyers used Brett’s death to try and introduce another suspect. We also didn’t need the writers to harp on that fact for half of the episode (we get it— his lawyers did that and you guys clearly did not like it). The Rose McGowan detour after she investigated Brett’s death was also not necessary—did you focus on her life story because she was marginally famous at one time??? Things like this made me skip chunks of the later episodes. I will be hesitant to listen to another Casefile Presents episode in the future, however, I still will be a faithful listener of Casefilez

    Excellent deep dive
I was in high school when all of this was going on. So, the connections between all of my favorite bands and famous people is astounding. This is the stuff I never knew was going on at the time, so it’s intriguing to listen now.

    Casefile’s standard of excellence continues.
I binged all of the episodes of Dragonfly in one day. It is a fascinating story. It is so tragic and interesting that I had to listen to the next episode, like a great book I just couldn’t put down. The episodes are very well written. The presentation is very much up to Casefile standards. The narrators somewhat somber tone is perfectly suited to the events. All in all, very well done at every level.

    Dragonfly; Brett Cantor murder
The content was great. i’m sure people know something and hopefully they’ll come forward. I hope Los Angeles Police Department are following up on this information to help solve the case.

    Awesome podcast!
I love this podcast! Professionally produced and engaging. Very cool to hear about the club scene in Los Angeles in the 90’s and to hear Brett’s story. Definitely recommend!

    So boring
Surprised how boring this story is, especially since Casefile is actually interesting. Yikes…
  • Jennilee57
    Is the reader AI?
I wanted to listen, I tried to listen. I couldn’t listen. The cadence and draggy weirdness were too much.
  • SOOOO tired of calculus...
    Narrator
    Chick’s voice is intolerable.

    Good But Falls Short
Really interesting subject matter & context of the larger scene is helpful, but the long detours into things like the OJ Simpson trial and Rose McGowan’s rape at the hands of Harvey Weinstein were wholly unnecessary. Lots of filler to make it into 9 episodes. On a technical note, the music is pretty distracting & the narrator just doesn’t quite have the podcast thing down. Her delivery is weird, but most odd was her pronunciation of Cantor.

    Interesting story, unbearable narration
I was only able to handle the first 5 minutes of this podcast. I was so hopeful after hearing it promoted on Casefile but the narration is unbearable. It sounds like this was recorded using A.I.

    So GOOD!!!
I have ALSO been waiting for this podcast to come out! It was very well done! RIP Brett! I really hope this case gets solved!
  • Momtotgj
    Is the voice synthesized?!
It’s so hard to get passed this voice. I’m sticking with it because the material is so good.
  • Grett45
    Eh
Never written a review before, but felt like I needed to for this one. Story is well produced and the narrator is ok, but it’s soooooo slow. It feels like it’s a podcast of people from LA being name droppers and who they where connected to including the narrator…

    Best Podcast Series in Years
I have anticipated the release of the second season of the Dragonfly podcast for awhile now. The first season was one of the most professional, polished, engaging, and perfectly executed podcasts I have ever listened to. There are too many attributes to even list and it’s a podcast that is beyond binge-worthy. So much so, that I re-listened to each episode in the first season multiple times. The thoughtful research that was obviously put into the production of Dragonfly is evident throughout. I have no doubt that Dragonfly podcast will incite the public interest and attention necessary to help solve the murder of Brett Cantor.
  • BrookeNotaFan
This voice is too painful to listen to.
Super interesting topic, but awful and excruciating execution. Bummed, I can’t make it past first episode. It’s like it’s a synthesized lady robot voice.
