a10555DisgracefulTony Richardson is a disgrace to the badge. That man lies and lies and does not own up his to his actions. A bully
-
Felicia3333Outstanding journalismThis is a devastating story of what, it seems clear by the end, was a rushed conviction with no evidence.
-
FlavorsOfKarmaJustice for Toforest JohnsonThis podcast does a well job narrating Toforest Johnson story. Spreading Toforest Johnson story because needs to be released immediately. He deserves justice.
-
Hargrove67Everyone should know about this caseGreat reporting. Sad case. These prosecutors should be ashamed.
-
juliephilippeEssentialWe all should listen and advocate for his immediate release.
-
Jj clarkeInvestigative journalism at its finestWonderful narrator, well researched & thoughtful discussions. This story is shocking, dismaying & really highlights a shameful abuse of our justice system. Not just for the innocent man on death row but for the poor sheriff’s family that got cheated out of justice & lied to. I hope this podcast can make a stubborn state recognize their errors publicly & do what’s right. People need to hear this! Also- shout out to Sinisterhood Podcast for shining a light on this podcast & story.
-
heartgalEveryone Needs to listenBeth Shelburne has uncovered a major injustice. This is a must listen and share until Toforest is home with his family.
-
Boo Boo 316Excellent PodcastThis podcast is fact-based, researched and interesting. You will want to help Toforest Johnson get out of prison.
-
Daryl5112Great podcast ! Must listen !Very informative and well done and will pull at your heart strings to help with this case and everyone involved
-
stephaniekidaSpread the wordThis is a very well done, well produced podcast about an astonishing miscarriage of justice. The host does an excellent job of shining a light on everything that went wrong here. Yet again, prosecutorial questionable ethics and outright misconduct by the DA office sent another man of color to prison for a crime he had no involvement in. Spread the word about this podcast and help get Toforest Johnson freed and back to his family and friends.
-
AaronPW82HeartbrokenThis man is clearly innocent and deserves to be set free! It made me so sick to my stomach to listen to this story! It has haunted me ever since!
-
AmwexGreat listen - really well told!I am always saddened when I hear a story of a horrific injustice. Our system is working as intended - finality given more weight than getting it correct. I hope accountability is done and soon.

911heyToo much unnecessary infoI've already lost patience with the first episode. Who cares that one of the suspects retrofitted his car or how he did it? That took about 5 minutes. We also hear about the last time someone saw the deceased and what he said, and of course the insipid question "How did you feel when you heard he had died"? Podcasters need to learn to tell the actual story, and not try to make it an emotional journey.

RobinAlabama205Incredible InjusticeFascinating dive into a corrupt system of injustice. Hard to believe this still happens.
-
VSG156Injustice revealedThis is a story we all need to hear. Thanks to Beth Shelburne and her team for sharing Toforest Johnson’s story and shining a light on the terrible injustice of his conviction.
-
Perfect VictimsEarwitnessBeth Shelburne did an amazing job uncovering the truth behind this murder conviction. The justice system failed on all fronts in this murder case. There are many more that were prosecuted and convicted erroneously and sadly, Alabama is the worst state in the nation to correct their wrongdoings. Our laws inhibit the testing of DNA, even when the evidence has never been tested. Prosecutors and law enforcement and Judges refuse to open the door for corrections to be made because of their own egos. Maybe they are afraid they will be sued for their wrongdoings. Hopefully, more attention will be focused on this wrongful conviction because of this podcast!

Hottie McTottieSad story, great journalismMy heart is so sad but the journalism was fantastic on this story. The state of Alabama should be ashamed of themselves for keeping this man on death row and not owning up to the terrible injustice they've caused.
-
tmon92Important story, great storytellingReally impressed by this story. So heartbreaking to hear yet another story of failed justice. Also frustrating to listen to police officers describe their hairbrained theories. Too many adds but that is to be expected these days for free podcasts.
-
Hud.ABinged in 2 daysExcellent story telling! Another horrifying case of injustice. There truly needs to be criminal justice reform in this country.

kaeli83Champion of ads ads adsGripping story interrupted by more commercials than I’ve ever heard on a pod. They’re embedded so even with a paid subscription you can’t get away from them. Iheart radio is by far the most ad riddled of the big hitters. Annoying enough not to finish.
-
4leebeeear witnessexceptional coverage of a death row wrongful conviction.
-
NullityMehGot two episode four before I unsubscribed. Just not enough to keep my interest.

Jenmart805Gripping story of an innocent man still on death rowI do a lot of driving so I listen to tons of podcasts. This one is one of the best I’ve heard in years. Journalist Beth Shelburne knocked this story out of the park and left no stone unturned. Just when you think the story can’t get more unbelievable, the State of Alabama doubles down. Twists and turns, interviews, and incredible story telling. This is the podcast of the year!
-
grjejeuebeGreat storytelling, maddening situationFantastic podcast. Beth is a wonderful interviewer and storyteller. As a native Alabamian and resident of Birmingham, I think this should be required listening for others in the state— to bring needed attention to both Toforest’s story and the injustice done by the system that is supposed to hold people innocent until proven guilty.
-
TBS011Every American Needs to Hear This! You do not have to look outside our country to find trumped up charges and innocent people incarcerated, or worse yet, executed, despite their innocence. And it’s happening in real time, not the distant past. This podcast covers all the bases and left me feeling shocked and despondent regarding our justice system. If you wish to hear how charges and witnesses can be shifted to fit the current need (or even bought!), and how justice in certain courtrooms is just an illusion. It’s eye opening, and the innocent person at the center of this dark tell is a real man, one who has been on Alabama’s Death Row for over 25 years. His youth and his freedom was taken, and now they want to take his life. Listen and weep.
-
Thunderchicken5Binge thisShocking. Beth Shelburne is an amazing reporter - episode 7 is unbelievable. Such good storytelling. I couldn’t wait for the next episode.
-
BOB94707A must-listen compelling podcastThe investigators of this monumental miscarriage of justice did years of extensive research and interviews to uncover the repeated use of testimony (to put it mildly) provided by unreliable witnesses and concealed exculpatory evidence. The perceived urgency for prosecutors to find and convict the murderer(s) of a law enforcement officer fueled their flawed investigations and practices which they then covered up. Make listening a priority, then share Toforest Johnson’s story.
-
FhdohdoysWowReally compelling story. Awful that this is happening in our society and most people don’t realize. What can we do to get the word out? Thanks for your thorough investigation.
-
TChampBhamBest Podcast of 2023I listen to more podcasts than I should admit, and this is hands-down the best investigative reporting out there. It’s so hard to listen to such a miscarriage of justice, but so eye opening to the flaws in our systems. How many Toforests are out there?
-
Podcast lover 82Outrageous injusticeCompelling storytelling documenting an outrageous injustice in Alabama. You won’t be able to stop listening and will be left wondering how Alabama can so shamelessly be working to kill an innocent man based on zero reliable evidence. One of the most shocking true crime podcasts I have listened to.
-
dđjdjGreat podcastIncredibly well done podcast with excellent reporting and audio clips. It’s a must listen podcast about a truly awful injustice in our court system.
-
Fish in my shortsHard to Listen to.I found it difficult to listen to due to the injustices portrayed. Such a shame. Also, it was literally difficult to listen to due to the narrator’s “newscast” style and inflection. I really wish it was narrated in a storytelling format, like typical podcasts and not like a TV broadcast. So annoying.
-
Señorita KianaAmazing reportingLove that the reporter went to great lengths to get a full picture of the case and everyone involved. I cringed at some of the interviews because I honestly don’t think I would have had the courage to confront people, like the prosecutor, who is now retired.
-
BradeeeeeeeeRiveting!!So so so good, highly recommend listening NOW!!!
-
nataliejane38So good!I was hooked from the first episode. Excellent journalism. Loved all the interviews the host was able to get and how it wrapped up with the kids. Hopefully this will help get Toforest off death row.
-
cltgt554Wonderful Podcast!!Thank you for exposing just how horrible of a law-enforcement officer detective Richards was!
-
drunksrd's pathExcellent!I listened to this based on Crime Writers On’s recommendation. I binged the whole thing in one day. Such an interesting case & so we’ll told. A must listen!
-
H.MinassianShockingly Clear!A clear and compassionate deep dive into the ripple effect of an injustice.
-
akisrael14RivetingSuch an extraordinarily well done podcast. And such a tragic story. Thank you for your hard work trying to right this wrong. It’s not too late…
-
MusiqLuvherLying DeputyListening to that Deputy Richardson lie about that discussion with the young lady was hard to sit thru. Great investigative work.
-
zelle no buenoShould be shared widelyExtraordinary podcast.
-
rothstercaesar12UnbelievableI’m not a true crime person or a podcast person but this was extraordinary. It’s also well edited and easy to listen to (no unnecessary tangents, no vocal fry).
-
holmannnnSo frustratingI just finished this podcast and I have so many emotions. I was hanging onto every word. I can’t believe my ears and how unjust this situation is. It seems so easy to fix because all of the information they have to get him out. I wish I could do something. Seems just so unfair for he and his family. You did an amazing job bringing this to light!
-
SandyCPAInfuriatingI listen to a lot of wrongful conviction podcasts but I think this might be the most infuriating. How in the world did juries find them guilty? And why would detectives not want to find the person who killed one of their own? Because there is no way they thought they had the right people. Excellent reporting - a story that needs to be told.
-
lindy luvs musicExcellent reporting!I knew, after listening to the trailer, that this case was going to make me angry. Beth & her team do an excellent job of investigating & breaking down the obvious corruption in Toforest’s case & others. It’s appalling! Toforest needs to be released or at the least deserves a new trial.
-
jjtmocAmazing story that needs to be heard! The way this story unfolds is so well done. The injustice is heart wrenching but the journalists, attorneys and everyone working hard to bring justice to this situation is inspiring! I very much hope Toforest can come home soon.
-
MomNNPExcellent! One the best true crime podcast I’ve listened to in years!
-
TbmeadeUnbelievable travestyI’m absolutely stunned, saddened and sickened by this case. This “witness”, Violet, needs to be brought to justice along with the district attorney and all the detectives, for the frauds they have committed. Shame on all of you.
-
Midnightstar3233Awesome!This podcast was definitely intriguing you did a great job! My first podcast I ever listened to! 😌😍
-
