Always interesting topics, great guests, really well done show hosted by veteran journalist Jane Perlez.

I thought this show would be a much more comprehensive look into US China relations, but in reality, it’s nothing more than western liberals interviewing Chinese liberals. Where are the communists? Where are the people that are supportive of China’s government?

This is a fascinating podcast that really makes the everyday American aware of how our country’s relationship with China has a real impact on our America. Each episode is presented in an engaging and digestible way. Very interesting and impressive! Highly recommend!!!

Comprehensive, enlightening, entertaining;

Easy enough for a non-specialist to understand, not too wonky, but deeper and more nuanced than the China takes you read on Op-Ed pages or hear in other podcasts.

This is a wonderful way to digest the US-China relationship. Jane Perlez is a wonderful interviewer and raconteur.

I learned a new way of thinking about China and how we should think about how the PRC may look at an issue. Learning how to look at an issue in a different way is a wonderful talent and Jane has it.

Very thoughtfully done. First season comes in around 4 hours total. Well worth your laundry folding time.

Enjoyed all 8 episodes. Look forward to season 2 for more balanced coverage of US and China

This is the best pod cast I’ve come across that focuses on the most relevant issue facing the US and China, and that is bilateral relations. I’m hoping for a season 2

Fantastic podcast with both sweep and terrific anecdotes

The consistent talk on main stream media of a zero sum game of endless competition between the US and China and the fear mongering is so depressing and uninformed. So grateful for Jane Perlez’s informed series that brings fact, nuance and common sense rather than hysteria to the conversation.

This is by far the best pod cast on China’s relations with the world that I have come across. As an international security expert I highly recommend this to anyone looking for in depth China insight. I particularly like the ‘break-down’ discussions at the end of the episodes.

The is an impressive and important podcast. It presents a leading concern of our time - the China -United States relationship -in a calm, adult, rational, balanced, educated, and yet still very listenable way. It’s very informative.

China is a formidable challenge to global economic coexistence and a military threat as well vis a vis Taiwan. Insights provided in these podcasts give the listener a better understanding of the potential risks the US faces today and in the future.

Jane Perlez knows China. Her perspective is helpful in understanding the challenges the US faces in its relationship with China.

Learned about this pod from Jane’s appearance on Sonica. Wow! What a great series! Not only engaging and informative, but perfectly illustrated that we need better policies from both governments to allow more, foot on the ground real journalism, can’t wait for the next episode!

Despite traveling to China in the seventies, Nanjing and Shanghai in 2019, and reading current books and articles, I have always felt in the dark about this global superpower. But thanks to Jane’s insightful, well-researched and conversational-sounding interviews, I’m feeling a little more enlightened. Listeners are taken on thought-provoking journeys. Ok, full disclosure: I’m biased because my book on Cold War/ CIA activity in China (Agents of Subversion) was fortunate to be featured in one of the episode. Putting that aside, dispassionately speaking, Face-Off is just fantastic, a tour de force of US-China relations, a must-listen when it comes to maybe the most important bilateral relationship out there.

This is one of the best China focused podcasts out there, and one of the big differences is the in-country and on-issue experience brought to by the host, the excellent Jane Perlez. Jane brings a lot to each episode, letting the guest carry the show but adding great insights all along the way. Refreshing also that the podcast does not have an agenda or spin, with really good expert guests and frank but no -ideological takes on the many tough issues in the US China relationship, the most important foreign policy issue of our time. Bravo!!

It would be hard to put together a better duo on US-China, and Face Off’s trailer makes clear this podcast will become a must-listen for those interested in understanding why we are where we are. Jane is already an incredibly gripping story teller. Coupled with the top-tier production, chocked full of real-life dialogue and immersive sound work, it is going to be hard to put this podcast down. Eagerly awaiting the complete series.

Veteran journalist Jane Perlez’s reporting on modern China is unparalleled, and this podcast will be no exception. We should all be paying attention — and tune in as she and Rana Miller talk to spies, diplomats, economists and more.

Layered, complex and foreign, Chinese politics and society needs an interpreter for the West. I know of no one who digs, explains and narrates a story better than Jane Perlez. Her “The Great Wager” podcast in ’22 is a gem. A long-time NYT foreign correspondent, Jane is a no-hype story teller who draws you in episode after episode and makes you, too, a sophisticated China-watcher.

Compelling trailer plus deeply knowledgeable narrator/host plus perfect timing on the topic suggest a don’t-miss series is poised for take-off. Hard to imagine a better pilot than Jane Perlez. Seat-belt fastened for a good ride.
