Yamamoto-sanPimsleurThe teaching, learning style applied is very similar to the Pimsleur Approach, which is scientific and extremely useful, effective, and successful. I enjoyed the first lesson, Introductions, very much. As an applied linguist, this type of teaching, learning style is something I value very much. Terimah kasih! 😊

GJR1969A very nice, approachable way to start IndoenesianThe lesseons are presented slowly and methodically and give a good overview of some basis structures in Indonesian. You can tell that they put a lot of love in their podcast and really want pepople to learn. I bought the premium version and it has helped a lot!

Customer support?Great learning tool but no customer support!I really enjoyed the free versions before I moved to Indonesia, so decided to purchase the premium once I arrived to help speed my learning. Unfortunately the files are extremely large and the internet speed where I am in Indonesia is not able to download them. I have reached out multiple times for suggestions on how to access the content but have not received a response. Writing this review in hopes they will see it and reply! Happy to change my rating to 5 stars if I can actually access what I paid for.

bbsfanboyBuilds a solid foundationThis series of lessons provides an excellent foundation in Indonesian and makes a good supplement to any textbook. Very easy to follow, and the combination of verbal lessons and study guides reinforces the content from the speakers. Maybe more basic vocabulary would be good but that can but found in a number of other sources. Overall just a great program.

brischittafor everyday conversationI am brushing up because I haven't spoken Bahasa in 15 years, and with every episode I remember a little more and know that this is exactly what I'll need to hit the ground running. Thank you so much for this podcast.

AdAstraElizPerfect Pace and InstructionI've recently moved to Indonesian with my husband. While he is a native, he is not a good teacher. But these audio lessons have given me a very great basic understanding of the language. I'm hoping to take advantage of the premium package in the future. For now, spending a few minutes here and there to pick up the language has been instrumental. Absolutely recommend.

SS - Montauk, NYGreat Course in Indonesian!I just want to thank Shawn and Cece again for this free course! I planned a trip to Bali at the last minute and have been listening to the lessons every night before I fall asleep. I feel so much more confident as I go out and try to communicate with the Balinese people I meet. They are so gracious and it brings a smile to their faces as they see I am trying to be polite while visiting their country. Shawn’s style is so relaxed and the lessons are well constructed in bite-sized pieces. The only adjustments I would make: 1. Create a button on the iPhone ap to enable users to click to go to the next lesson or provide an auto-advance feature; 2. Offer a sort of summary option of each lesson, where you just hear the English and Indonesian, without extra commentary, so you can just drill. Great course and I will subscribe to the lifetime course if I feel I want to go more in-depth. Well done!

BrainbeatsPerfectJust enough to get you started at an easy pace… On lesson 5, one lesson a week for me,always looking forward to my lesson each Saturday morning with a cup of joe.

Zerogravity19BeautifulA beautiful App to learn Indonesian. Terima Kasih Banyak!
-
DCIndoFantastic podcastThis is podcast is exceptionally well organized, easy to follow and helpful. Lessons are broken up into manageable topics and last for about 10 minutes. They build on each other in a very logical way. This is the best self-study audio guide for foreign languages that I have ever come across.

Circus Of TrustGood Lessons, but...The lessons are useful and well-paced, but the non-native narrator (bule guy) should NEVER pronounce the Indonesian words. I think it would be best (5 Stars) if the native Indonesian speakers were the only ones to pronounce the Indonesian words. This is to prevent any inadvertent replication and/or mimicry of the bule guy's poor pronunciation (which is very American). Please do not misinterpret nor misconstrue this comment as anything other than a sincere suggestion coming from someone who would love it if everyone in the world learned to speak (and read) Bahasa Indonesia. No offense intended! Thanks for producing this great series.

reginaldisWhy did you stop?Good paced learning and helped me a lot in preparing for my trip to Indonesia. However, my only complaint is...why did you stop at Lesson 48? Are you discontinuing this podcast?

zazenfriendNot too fast, yet not too slow: the "goldilocks" way to IndonesianI am very much enjoying these "Learning Indonesian" lessons. The methodology used makes learning so enjoyable that it's no work at all. As a matter of fact, I've fallen in love with the language and – in all sincerity – feel that, if any natural language deserves to be touted as an easily learned international language, it's without a doubt Bahasa Indonesia! You really ought to give it a try.
-
shansanwangMsi scanned through all 48 lessons in three weeks. It is a very good source of learning Indonesian for beginners.
-
leadorPractical and helpfulBefore beginning formal language study in Indonesian, I wanted to find a way to learn some useful words and phrases. Learning Indonesian uses a logical progression to move learners from words to phrases. They also include helpful review in each session. The words and phrases are things that I need to know in order to communicate. If I weren't going to begin attending language school soon, I would strongly consider buying the full program.
-
arlducA wonderful free resourceThis podcast has been recommended to me by an American colleague who now lives in Indonesia. The audio + PDF guides are so clear and helpful. Great job Shawn and Cici!
-
leahg510Learning Indonesian at an easy paceI'm totally enjoying these podcasts. I have no complaints, whatsoever. I look forward to my little trips around town since that's when I get to listen to a new lesson, or review an old one. I tend to listen to 2 new ones, then go back to re-listen to the most recent-. I guess it's the two steps forward, one step back, two steps forward.. method :) Thank you for your thoughtfulness in putting this together in such a digestible format!
-
krapyjIt is designed as a helpful and interesting! The two hosts are well-cooperated and have helpful manners to effectively review what I've been learning. I am an intermediate learner of learning Indonesian but it has been a while I haven't reviewed vocabs so I needed a reminder. Along with the language learning itself, cultural stories are also helpful to keep up my learning. Regardless of whether you are a beginner or a bit advanced learner of Indonesian, this lesson definitely will be helpful for you!
-
keittoExactly what I needThis is a great course for learning the basics of Indonesian. I started with absolutely zero knowledge of the language, and after only 15 lessons (so far), I feel at least like I have something to work with. The explanations and study sheets are great. Highly recommend this podcast!
-
M1m!Love it!I am trying to learn this language. A friend has this particular podcast, and I liked the easy to follow format. Also what is helpful is the study guides they email you if you sign up for them on their website. Totally worth the five stars.

Nomadic PandaExtremely Helpful Learning Indonesian PodcastI love learning languages and when I found out that I would be moving to Indonesia for my husbands work for 4 months I immediately jumped online to learn about the language. Because I will only be there for a short time I did not want to invest a lot of money in learning material so I searched around for free lessons. I must say, unlike Spanish, German, French or some of the more "common" languages there was surprisingly little offered for free Indonesian. It's easy to find words/phrases but without any audio, as a complete beginner I have no idea how anything is pronounced. This Podcast has been a god-send! The PDF files are very helpful to be able to visualize the words and the podcasts are truly wonderful because without them I would have no idea say any of it. And, it's great that they have a native (female) AND a non-native (male) speaker saying the words so I can hear how they sound from two perspectives. I haven't gone too in-depth yet, as I'm only on the 7th lesson, but so far I love it and I'm so thankful that there is such a wonderful FREE resource out there! Terima Kasih (Thank You), Shaun and CiCi!

Luce 2Learning IndonesianShaun and Cici have done a wonderful job. I have studied Indonesian in several formats and schools over the years and their Premium course is the best I have ever had. They do a great job of teaching you the most essential vocabulary and sentence structures and do so in a way that is friendly and encouraging. One can go at ones own pace and there are just enough challenges in each lesson to keep one interested and moving forward without being over-whelmed. They also offer an excellent flash card program and the opportunity to ask questions about word usage and grammar in a way that is personal and also helpful to others. Finally, they are truly available, whether to help with computer glitches or to share information about Indonesian. I couldn't be happier with the program and only hope that they offer a more advanced course in the future.
-
Eric-1986Very helpful, a must-have for anyone planning a trip to Indonesia!I just returned from a trip to Indonesia and this podcast proved to be an invaluable resource in communicating with the wonderful people of Indonesia. Every lesson is packed with useful phrases -- each of which is pronounced by a native speaker -- and basic grammar is covered in a natural and easy-to-learn way. This is, without a doubt, the best resource available for learning Indonesian.
-
California SuzyGreat!I am planning a 3-week trip to Bali and am using Learning Indonesian to gain a very basic knowledge of the language. I'm finding the materials engaging, helpful, well-paced and, amazingly, they are free! I am up to Lesson 10 and spend about 30 minutes 5 days a week (while I'm on the treadmill), adding one lesson a day. The text and the audio are mutually reinforcing and, with only one exception, the material is presented in exactly the same order on both so it's easy to follow. I find each lesson presents just the right amount of material for me to digest. I'm very grateful to Shaun and Ceci for generously providing such a helpful tool. If I were going to be in Indonesia longer, I would definitely become a Premium Member but I suspect the 48 lessons I have will be more than enough. Incidentally, I perused some of the other Indonesian language programs and this one seemed by far the best. I hope their business prospers.
-
Am-and-jjWonderful!I listen to these in the car with my five year old. The lessons are easy to follow and both of us are catching on quickly and loving it! My mother was born in Indonesia and I hope to travel there to see her birth place, so I decided to learn the language.
-
bennyfilmEasy to use and to learnI have really enjoyed Learning Indonesian with these lessons. My wife who is Indonesian downloaded them for me for our first trip back to Indonesia and I have run through all the free lessons now. I find I can express myself and carry on a simple conversation. It find the pronunciation particularly helpful and have really expanded my vocabulary. I would definitely recommend these lessons.

MNDeeLanguage Lessons in an Easily Digested FormatThese podcasts are organized in easily digested segments that don't overwhelm you. Each podcast focuses on 4 or 5 main phrases and then brings in elements from previous lessons. Supplement your podcast lessons with the excellent study guides at the "Learning Indonesian" website and the associated flash cards from the linked site on Quizlet and you have a truly integrated learning experience. A big "thank-you" to the developers for coming up with this great resource.
-
boyscout301AmazingIts's amazing! So much easier than other programs. easy and within the the first few podcasts, along with the instructional sheets, this is amazing
-
aslipapuaGood Stuff! As a 1st language Indonesian speaker I found this podcast very useful. I'm always looking for something that I can offer my friends who are interested in learning Indonesian-whether they want to learn simple phrases or more. This podcast is very helpful in that it does not present the hypercorrect Indonesian, which is more than a new learner needs to worry about. Shaun and Cici keeps it simple but effective, and teach words and phrases that are very practical and can be used across the far ranging dialects of the Indonesian archipelago.
-
ERJordan10OutstandingThese courses are incredible and easy to follow. While it is clear to see that a lot of thought was put into each lesson, the material flows smoothly and is simple to comprehend. My new wife who is Indonesian, was very surprised at how much I'd learned in the short time I started studying the lessons. I look forward to each new lesson and building on what was previously learned, Shaun and Cici do a great job at building that foundation. I highly recommend this course to anyone that is serious about learning Indonesian and would like to have fun doing it! Terima kasih banyak Shaun dan CiCi! Sampai nanti, ERJordan

latinericLearningIndonesian Podcasts are GREAT !!!I spent 2 years working in China and trying to master Mandarin, unfortunately I can only speak "yi dian dian"; Now I am moving to Jakarta, while I have been visiting there for the last 10 months already. I downloaded the LearningIndonesian podcasts to my iPhone just before the first trip and BAMN !!! like magic, it just clicked; I "bisa bicara bahasa Indonesia" pretty darn well already; I can get around and converse with the locals. The podcasts are just really GREAT, it works; thanks Shaun and Cici for entertaining lessons that work. I wish I had downloaded your podcasts for Chinese back 2 years ago... thanks, eric

AmericanFredNothing but PraiseAs a human needs worker I'm working on my third language. I'm not saying that after three months I'm a natural at Bahasa Indonesian but I can say that I've never had this type of material in any other language or media. This material is easy to follow and the pronunciation is as authenic as it comes. I live in Indonesia and I know. The material is well worth the time and effort. The premium material is even better.
-
qfordpSimple and Memorable!I've been able to absorb more Indonesian through this podcast than I thought possible! The presentation is very simple and easy to follow, and the pronunciation break down leaves me feeling confident that I will be understood. Great work! Five stars!
-
dctadpoleNice Beginners Course:I *just started* using this course and have not yet upgraded to either of the two-tiered pay course agendas. The free course agendas, so far, have been excellent. I commend the teacher pair (Shaun and CiCi, a bule and native Indonesian) for their vocabulary selection and for the clear dialogue. The lessons are well thought out and the repeating excersizes are good. I would, given my druthers, remove the idle chit-chat and I would also focus more on the grammer contruct (although I am only on lesson 7 or 8 now so....). Overall I would give the program an extremely high review and I will likely upgrade to their subcription service level when I have more time to focus on the course.
-
greenleafEasy, affordable, fun! These podcasts are fantastic. Â I am going to be traveling to Bali soon, and I have been able to learn so many Indonesian words and phrases. Â I listen to the podcasts during my morning and afternoon commutes, and I find the length of them just perfect for learning a few new things each day.
-
Kian ThelenAmazing PodcastThe lessons aren't too long, and you get introduced to the most useful vocabulary in conversation. I love how new words are introduced with explanations of how they're used in-context, so that you can apply them in multiple situations. Lessons are well-organized, so they're easy to review when I forget. This has been an amazing podcast, and I can't believe that it was free. I just took a trip to visit my family in Indonesia and used this podcast to prepare for about 2 months prior. It felt so wonderful to recognize the words people were saying, even if a little.... I'd never been able to break up the language like this before (i'd wanted to speak Indonesian since I was young, and my mom is a native speaker, but I could never get far). I am considering purchasing more of the resources so I can become fluent, and I cannot wait for more lessons to come out. Terima Kasih Banyak! Thanks so much, the Learning Indonesian Team!
-
Mr daves TouchAbsolutely Great Podcasts !!!!I just want to say Thanks To Shawn & Cici for providing a truly valuable learning experience. I got a short 2 month notice that I was going to be living in Indonesia for 6 months. I came across The Learning Indonesian Podcasts & listened to them everyday while driving home in 2 hours of traffic. I can't say how fortunate it was for me to have even some basic vocabulary. I recommend these Podcasts to all my friends. Terima Kasih Banyak !!!

00111Learning indonesian ReviewIt is a very clear program. It guides you with baby steps and suddenly you are talking indonesian. It is trully a great way to learn Indonesian. Thumbs UP!
-
ZencatsVery good learning tool! Good music too.I'm planning on going to Jakarta for work. Though my work does not require Indonesian, I thought it'd make the experience more fun. I found this podcast and am having a lot of fun at it. Shaun and Cici both have excellent clear voice. The pdf are helpful, too.
-
makkaylearning IndonesianI have studied several languages over the years and Indonesian is my asian second language. it is one of the simpler languages to learn considering the fact that they share the same alphabet with european languages. the grammar is pretty nuch straight forward, so the key is vocabulary. i really enjoy the learning indonesian podcast because they dont overload you with words but help you add a little bit of usefull information at a time.
-
CarismeaVery user friendlyI'm 6 lessons into The Learning Indonesian program and amazed at how quickly I'm picking things up. The lessons are very easy to follow and the audio is extremely clear. I get the sense the hosts really care that I learn! I would highly recommend this podcast course for anyone who wants an introduction to Indonesian. You can also download and print lesson plans from their website. I may even sign up for their extended learning program - as I'm impressed with how organized and efficient the lessons are. Great stuff!
