The Infected Trilogy

The Infected Trilogy is a three-book audio fiction series from #1 New York Times bestselling novelist Scott Sigler. "Part Stephen King, part Chuck Palahniuk, INFECTED blends science fiction and horror into a pulpy masterpiece of action, terror, and suspense.” James Rollins, New York Times bestselling author of The Judas Strain and Black Order “INFECTED is a marvel of gonzo, in-your-face, up-to-the-minute terror.” Lincoln Child, New York Times bestselling author of Deep Storm and Death Match   "INFECTED is a bucking pulp pony that throws you this way and that, and just when you think you've got your balance, that ole pony bucks the other way. It’s one hell of an exhilarating ride." Joe R. Lansdale, World Horror Convention Grand Master and six-time Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Bubba Ho-Tep and Hap & Leonard SEASON 1: INFECTEDAcross America, a mysterious disease turns ordinary people into raving murderers who inflict brutal horrors on strangers, themselves, and even their own families. Working under the government’s shroud of secrecy, CIA operative Dew Phillips crisscrosses the country trying in vain to capture a live victim. With only decomposing corpses for clues, CDC epidemiologist Margaret Montoya races to analyze the science behind this deadly pathogen. She learns that these killers all have one thing in common – they’ve been contaminated by a bioengineered parasite, shaped by a complexity far beyond the limits of known science.Meanwhile Perry Dawsey – a hulking former football star now resigned to life as a cubicle-bound desk jockey – awakens one morning to find several mysterious welts growing on his body. Soon Perry finds himself acting and thinking strangely, hearing voices . . . he is infected. The fate of the human race hinges on the bloody war Perry must wage with his own body, because the parasites want something from him, something that goes beyond mere murder.SEASON 2: CONTAGIOUSThe brutal epidemic sweeping America is driven not by evolution, but rather by some unknown, malevolent intelligence. Standing against this unimaginable threat is a small group assembled under the strictest secrecy. Hulking former football star Perry Dawsey possesses an unexplainable ability to locate the disease’s hosts. Violent and unpredictable, Dawsey is both the nation’s best hope and a terrifying liability. Hardened CIA veteran Dew Phillips must somehow forge a connection with Perry if they’re going to stand a chance against this maddeningly adaptable opponent. Working with them is Margaret Montoya, a brilliant epidemiologist who fights for a cure even as she reels under the weight of endless horrors. This trio has kept humanity in the game, but when the disease becomes contagious, it triggers a fast countdown to Armageddon. SEASON 3: PANDEMICTo some, Doctor Margaret Montoya is a hero — a brilliant scientist who saved the human race from an alien intelligence determined to exterminate all of humanity. To others, she’s a monster—a mass murderer single-handedly responsible for the worst atrocity ever to take place on American soil. All Margaret knows is that she’s broken. The blood of a million deaths stain her hands. Endless guilt and crippling nightmares chew at her, take pieces of her soul, drown her in self-hatred so crippling she can't salvage her marriage, let alone be even a shadow of the warrior she once was.But Margaret is about to be called into action again. Because before the murderous intelligence was destroyed, it launched one last payload — a soda can–sized container filled with deadly microorganisms that makes humans feed upon their own kind.CREDITS:Presented by Empty Set EntertainmentWritten by Scott SiglerNarrated by Scott Sigler (S1 & S2) and Phil Gigante (S3)Audio engineering by Steve Riekeberg (SteveRiekeberg.com)Podcast production assistance by Allie Press and Evo Terra of Simpler Media Productions (Simpler.media)

    ✨casual misogyny✨
Thought I could listen to this and ignore the casual misogyny. But I can’t. I can deal with his writing when it comes to the male characters… but WOW, his writing of the female characters?! Straight up misogyny. I gave up when the female epidemiologist got horny right before doing an autopsy and the author wrote her internal dialogue as needing to get her **hormones** under control. To the author: please, don’t try to write women. Or, idk, maybe talk to a woman first? The writing makes me feel like the author hasn’t ever been close to a woman before in his life. And if he has, he hasn’t cared enough to ask about her inner thoughts. There’s an arrogance in his writing, as if he believes he understands women as a concept, so he shouldn’t have to bother with actually giving the female characters dimension. Straight up objectification. Sexualization. Subjugation. Byeee

Boss level misogyny. Ok scifi. Good descriptions. Terrible voices. Meh.
Started out ok with misogyny undertones, but Season 3 is a boss-level misogyny party. The female roles in this are constantly adhering to tropes and I can’t listen anymore after getting thru half of episode 2 of Season 3. Men are always the “bigger person” in this show and it is seriously gross. The plot is engaging and the sci fi aspects and descriptions of the “intelligence” and tech are killer. But the obvious deep loathing for the female spirit gets worse over time

    Great Idea with Shallow Writing
I’m almost done with book one and have enjoyed the general storyline. However, this reads more like a jock who aspires to be a writer rather than someone who brings complexity and nuance to a great idea.

    Yellow. No, blue! Ahhhhhhhh…..
Just finished book one. I read a lot and listen a lot, my job allows listening while I work. I rarely comment on most of it. But this was surprisingly good. Scott, don’t let people get to you about your lady voice. You did a great job of making it quirky and at the same time as uncomfortably dark as Stephen King’s toilet finger or Rant. Like a written version of a Feast film with a touch of the Illuminatus trilogy. Listening to this I can envision how it would make a really visceral television series, or may even just an art house trilogy. Great work, and can’t wait to start book 2.

    Absolutely engrossing!
Excellent storytelling from beginning to end. The action and creativity never lets up. Actually, it just gets more intense. I love Scott reading his own work but totally enjoyed Phil’s voice acting. It’s just a very different vibe. I think some of the grumbling is because, for 2 books, we got used to the characters as presented by Scott. The change in reader for the third was like changing all the lead actors in a sequel.

    Awesome story
Same as other reviews the first two books are amazing and fun. The last book Scott doesn’t read and it just feels like it drags out. No emotions and dull!

First two season are great. Third not so much
When Scott narrates, the story is amazing but in the third story he brings in someone new, and that guy is horrible. I just couldn’t get into it so I couldn’t make it past the first episode.

    Interesting and fun.
Really enjoyed the twists and flow of the story. The action was great and the journey Scott takes you through as he explains how the infection comes to be and effects different people was great.

    Awesomely addictive
I liked the Alive trilogy so I thought I would try listening to this one, I am not disappointed listening while I drive to and from work. The story has me on end can’t wait to listen to the next chapter, I had to buy the next two audio books to finish the story and see how it ends, I’m a binge listener. Love the book I definitely recommend listening to these and giving his other books a try so far I’ve liked everything I have listened to from this author!!

    Implausible seems Plausible!
I don't take most of this genre seriously enough to be bothered but this got to me. He's the only author who disturbs me on a deep level, probably because so much was plausible AND he explained it. Yikes! I've listened to a few of his novels, start to finish but I can't this week. Nope. Not now.(January 11, 2021) Thanks Trump & cult. I'll stay home in my little liberal, "too liberal" said a woman we named the "Jeebus Woman" (WTF‽ MYOB! Leave my hometown alone!) Boulder bubble. Scott Sigler (sic) could do a fine job turning the MAGA-Cult more monstrous than they are, based on the morphing and manipulation he succeeded creating with less. No scaries taken on willingly this month. The rest of the genre is child's play; this author is the podcast master. How does he do it and remain sane? (Is he sane? Probably) Thanks for showing everyone else what it's supposed to be.

    Fully entertained!
Became a fan of Scott’s writing when I stumbled upon his series, Underwood and Flinch” on Audible. I’m only about half way through “Infected” but have been thoroughly entertained the entire time. Really great writing with fleshed out characters whom I can really see in my minds eye. Absolutely worth a listen!

Love the science-fiction feel of the story
I don't really like blood and guts stories, but I really really love the sci-fi feel of this story. Sure there are tons of swearing, sexual things and blood and guts in it but this story keeps me coming back. Scott writes really well. who would ever think that an alien would grow inside our bodies in the form of triangular shaped welts.

    This is only the beginning
Scott is an awesome writer and narrator. This trilogy is one of my favorites. Great character development along with blood and gore makes it awesome. Mr. Dawson reminds me of John tweety from Scott’s other awesome books of the GFL. They are also a must listen or read. Look up The Rookie. To you the reader of the comments before you listen or buy anything. Give it a try, I was you about year ago now I’m a junkie.

    Great Audio Book
One Of the best audio books I’ve ever listened to. Wish they had the two sequels

    Terrible narration
This story is interesting but it would be so much better in text. The narrator is awful. I listen to a ton of podcasts and this is the worst narration I’ve ever heard- by far. All of his voices are over exaggerated and ridiculous. I couldn’t stand it and stopped listening a few episodes in.

    The best
Scott you're my favorite author and podcasts. The only author I have actually purchased in years. Keep the amazing stories coming.

    Totally Loved It!!!
Be warned, Infected is NOT for everyone. If you have a weak stomach or are offended by strong language, then this is not for you. But if you are a fan of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Walking Dead or Alien, you should give it a try. Scott does an excellent narration, and the theme music is so apropos, I was already into it before the story even started!

Self mutilation fetish and aliens? Really?
The vast majority of this is covering a guy cutting stuff out of himself. Maybe if there were more of an actual story line I wouldn't mind. Or a less predictable ending. Disappointing listen after hearing We're Alive.

Great Story but Hard to Listen To
I am a little late to the game, but I found this a few days ago and am hooked on the story. This story will definitly capture you interest! It’s well written and has in-depth descriptions of the disease and the path it takes to do its damage. The only drawback is the reader. Sorry, but hire a voice actor, please. The falsetto female and children’s voices are ridiculous and hard to listen to, and the male voices are weird. I still don’t know why the Latina has to have a Mexican accent and the Black guy sounds so black. Stereotyping all characters is a rookie mistake. The author shouldn’t be such a control freak and let someone bring his story to life in a way that makes it AMAZING not just passable.
  • Saraliz312
Terrible and hard to listen to.
I had to finish this book because friends were reading it. It was torture. Great idea. Meticulous in depth explanations of the disease. Absolutely atrocious writing.

    ✨💖✨
Loved the audio book! I am a fan! Highly recommend this author! I have listened to Infected, Contagious, Ancestor, EarthCore, & now Nocturnal ... Even purchased Pandemic (eBook) all within the last month! 👏👏👏👏👏

    Might make a great book
I could not finish this because the narration was AWFUL. The story line was very good, so I tried, but I just couldn't do it. He should really have other people voice the characters, as he is horrible.

THE audiobook for fans of gory sci-fi!
I admit it - I am “infected” with the need to be entertained by wild, bloody, gory, violent, far-out science fiction. This story has it all! Plenty of twists, turns, and surprises. Definitely not for the squeamish. No, Scott Sigler does not have a great handle on voice characterizations, especially female voices. Luckily, I found this more laughable than annoying. LOVED ‘Infected’, LOVED ‘Contagious’! What’s next, Scott?
  • goatherd75
Catch the Sigler bug. Innoculations are for wimps.
Seriously. If you are new to podcast audiobooks, this is an excellent place to start. Also, for all that you are worth, start the Rookie today as well. You will love the GFL.

    Wow
One of the best authors around! Not many people can weave a story like Sigler!! And not many authors can read their own book and sound as good as Scott! Master horror/sci fi/ survivor storyteller!!! Keep up the great work dude !!

    Inspired!
In a world that is repeating the story lines our parents thought were old hat, here comes this work of creativity. I appreciate the talent in the voice acting as well. Thanks for sharing your talent so freely, Mr. Sigler

    …..Sickening
If you like passing out while listening too something then this is for you! I almost passed out, but that is because the detail and story telling is tremendous.

    Loved it
Like all sigler audiobooks the story is very engrossing unlike some people I liked Perry as the protagonist and the very dark road his character takes in this book It makes the second book more enjoyable in my opinion
  • Alura_84
    Loved it
    This was an amazing story!
  • dencla
    No voices, please
The plot itself is OK, although Sigler takes a loonng time to get to the point. Perry is not a very likable protagonist, and I do find myself wishing that the Triangles would manage to bring him down. The main problem with the audio format is Sigler's reading. The author's narration is really off-putting: a cacophony of the weirdest regional accents I've ever heard. The characters rarely maintain the same voice from line to line. Maybe Sigler has been taken over by the Triangles and they haven't gotten the hang of dialects. This book might be more enjoyable in print.

Absolutely LOVED this book! It kept me enthralled and wanting more the entire story :)

She Was Born in Cleveland, Ohio. She's Not a Foreign Exchange Student.
I got to chapter 10 and called it quits. The story was pretty good, but the characters' believability are as important as the plots' believability, and there's a Spanish female character who the author says "finds it funny men think her exotic since she was born in Cleveland, Ohio"--yet every time he reads in the character's voice she has a heavier accent than any of my Spanish friends who were born in Spanish-speaking countries and only been here a few years. It's crazy--she sounds worse than a foreign exchange student. The author's ignorance in voicing this character killed the story for me. I just couldn't get past it no matter how hard I tried. NO ONE born in America to a Spanish-speaking family sounds like this. It's beyond absurd. It's the worst character-voicing I've ever heard, and I've listened to A LOT of audio books. It's like he went "OK, she's Spanish, better do my best to mimic that wacky Spanish accent I heard on Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago." It's cartoonish and childish in execution and kills all believability of the character and every scene she appears in. For all the work the author seems to have put into researching and inventing the science behind this book, it would seem he put no effort whatsoever in researching culture. If the only people you know about is middle-aged white men, stick with writing about middle-aged white men. I tried to get pass it, but every time the character spoke all I could think about was how uncultured the author was and how ignorant he sounded voicing an American-born character like a foreign exchange student. The characters are as important as the story.

    Words to lust for!
I hate reading and I hate books. My ADD, prevents me from enjoying every book, until Scott's master pieces began to unfold before my eyes like the unfolding of a budding pink rose for the first time in the eyes of a virgin. I yurn, no I lust for these visions Scott implants in my brain. He will lure you into a fantasy world of pure bliss!

It kept me awake on the long, long drives!
I really liked this book and just downloaded the sequel, "Contagious". At first, it was difficult to enjoy the author's reading of the story since I have listened to many audio books read by professional actors but, as the story unfolded, I found Scott's naration had improved immensely, fuelled by his own enthusiasm for the story...and then I was hooked. I'm really looking forward to the sequel. (Hopefully, Scott will improve on his female voices. He tends to speak high-pitched instead of smooth and sultry like the professional narators..."please, Scott?").

    Loved it!
I just listened to Scott Sigler on a recent episode of the Nerdist and he sounded like a really cool guy. He talked about how he released his books as podcasts and I thought I would give it a try. This was a great book. I listened to it over 2 days and jumped straight to Contagious after finishing this one. Scott Sigler has a new fan!

    really good book
the book its self is really good and almost has a realistic feeling to it despite scotts atempt at the different voices. They can be pretty hit and miss but the overall quality of the book is really good
