🌸twiThis podcast is the GOATI love this podcast because it goes very in depth and is entertaining, especially the rare rage moments you have at various authors, movie writers or characters. It makes my day when the next pod drops. This podcast supported my first grader brain all through the pandemic. (like, 2 episodes a day) Also, you

swetummSooo unique, enlightening, riveting!Such a unique podcast! Brings me back to 10-yr-old me as I listen to stories that enraptured my childhood. LOVE hearing historical facts, tidbits and connections between Disney stories I never knew! Music is very pleasant. Would love to hear Harry Potter, Little Princess, Matilda, Mary Poppins or 101 Dalmatians!

ZelzegaI’ve learned a lotI very much appreciate that Paul branched out to all cinema instead of only Disney. There are so many movies I’ve loved over the years that I never knew were based on books. After listening to Paul talk about them in great detail, I’ve gone back and listened to the audiobooks which made me appreciate the stories even more. How much more have I missed throughout my life? Guess I’ll stay tuned for the next episode.

Korn12398Great showThis is a great podcast. I love listening to how the movie and the book differs and how they are the same. Good listen every time. I can’t wait for the rescuers episode!!

InfinitePts2GryffindorThank you, Paul! The host perfectly balances entertainment and information about each of these stories. The production, sound affects, research, and editing are all absolutely flawless. Every episode feels like an absolute treasure. It reminds me of when my dad used to tell me stories at bed time. I hope this pod lasts forever ❤️

tttttttttttttt100A Go-To Podcast Since PocahontasThis has always been one of my favorite favorite favorite shows since Paul’s first year of making it. To everyone who is listening, leaving hateful reviews full of spit and vinegar, PLEASE take a chill pill. There are 10 trillion podcasts in production. I’m sure you can find more than enough that like to be petty and vindictive without a second of reflection that you can enjoy. I go to Paul and his podcast for a layman’s take on classic/outdated/difficult-to-read stories as well as a thorough exploration of their plots and characters. I love the way he explains how these stories have changed overtime or been adapted into new mediums and I love to hear how some of the details of those stories have been manipulated or misunderstood over time. I laugh, I think, I learn, and I relax. I listen while I’m driving, when I have a migraine, when I’m doing chores, and when I’m having trouble falling asleep (or falling back to sleep). If you listen and it’s just not for you, cool. Take a breath and move on. For me, the show has always made the moment easier.

M Shelton987Wonderful podcastI’ve been listening to this podcast for years, & enjoy every episode. Even the stories I’ve never had any interest in are enjoyable in this podcast. I enjoy the different perspectives given between the written stories and the movies. I’ve listened to several episodes more than once. I have recommended to several others, as this is definitely one of my favorite podcasts. 📖📽️📻

Sleepy warriorLove thisHeartbreaking to see such nasty comments. I happen to stumble upon this podcast may be early last year and I have loved it every moment. The way he tells a story really paints a picture and I do like the hard work that goes into every story I hope everything gets better! Much love

Beaustuckinot a junk food podcastUpdate: years have gone by, the show now encompasses more than Disney and … it’s still the same excellent show it has always been. Out of curiosity I looked through the 1-star reviews and frankly they are embarrassing — most aren’t even in good faith. This remains one of my favorite podcasts and an easy recommendation for those interested in storycraft, cinema, movies, myths, Disney, or disquisition. —————— Entertainment meets education. Walt would be pleased. Of course it is targeted toward Disney fans, but anyone with an interest in storycraft, myth, or literature will find this thorough show worthwhile. I could see a couple of the episodes (Alice in Wonderland, say) being assigned listening in a college English course. Easily a favorite among the many podcasts I consume. And Disney fans ... it has all sorts of spunk and trivia. I also appreciate the way the show is able to poke fun at Disney without ever mocking or demeaning.

Nowhereman2121Hale Knows What He’s Talking About!Been listening since the days of the DSO podcast, and having this guy in my earbuds is like having a friend/fellow Disnerd/favorite professor discuss my favorite movies and books. Always a delight whenever I tune in.
-
Suckks12957Amazingly EntertainingI’ve listened to Paul re-tell many stories over and over again. His production level has always been unmatched! Easy, casual, and compelling listening. This is my favorite podcast!

T bomber9756My Favorite podcast by far!!!!!After reading some of the reviews, I am in disbelief. If you are a Disney fan or other children based film buff or have kids, this is a great podcast for you. Bad Dad jokes and all, the caster delivers a great side by side commentary and comparison to source material these stories are based with audio clips that make it very entertaining. Over the years we have saved up episodes for road trips! I can’t throw any more praise on this show except to say, I am always looking forward to the next episode drop!

Swass!Fantastic podcast!I discovered the Cinema Story Origins podcast thanks to the Walt Disney Sleepy Hollow episode—which is informative and entertaining! Paul gets into the history behind the original story by Washington Irving as well as the animated version we ultimately saw on the screen, as well as the differences between the two. I stuck around for several more, and this is such a lovely, thoughtful labor of love, and that comes through episode after episode. Paul speaks with a warm, friendly, and comforting tone, and he also is clearly having fun getting into the nuts and bolts of the story. Can recommend this one highly enough—just look for an episode or topic that grabs your attention (hey, I’m a sucker for gluttonous, colonial New York pedagogues who get weirded out by a little ol’ Hessian out there lookin for a top to chop).
-
Stockerfam5Disney/History/StorytellingI can’t recommend this podcast to people I know enough. Anyone into Disney at all or even just good storytelling is going to want to add this podcast to their playlist. Not only does Paul offer comparisons between the books and movies but his insight and analysis is smart and thorough. I rarely post or comment but Paul’s show is worth a little effort on my part to put some words out in support of his dedication and time for our edutainment.
-
rchlutherFavorite podcast!I found this podcast back when there was only a handful of episodes and I have listened faithfully ever since. Paul is funny and informative and has even made me change my mind about a few of my less-favorite movies! He’s got me to go read books the movies were based on and deep dive into other aspects of movie making. So much fun to listen to!
-
JuysdnsnshhssbbzbCSO is my favorite podcast!I love The Cinema Story Origins Podcast. Paul does a great job of researching the stories. I love his story/character interpretations and his humor. You should give it a listen.
-
BCALWAwesome storyteller!I have been a avid listener of this podcast since he first came out. If you’re always curious as what the background to any story to a movieis, specially Disney, you can find a hidden gem in this podcast. I’ve always enjoyed the way he gives us a full story like background of how movies were developed made, and what the actual story behind them is. Great work. Keep it up. For those of you out there who think if something is not for you that giving it a one star is helpful. It is not. If a podcast is not for you, but you still commented that it is amazing amazing in your review, you can, and should be labeled to troll. Thanks.

Irishmama2So enjoyableI have listened to this podcast since the beginning and love love love it! Paul does an amazing job with research, I feel like I'm in a college lit class, except it's super fun, informative and clever. I especially like listening to Paul read excerpts from the selected works, he is a wonderful storyteller.
-
CDiFrPaul’s Content is untouchedI’ve listened to Paul since he first began his podcasting journey and he’s been terrific since day one. Regardless if it is or isn’t a Disney film I learn so much. I feel as if I’m in a cinema history class. And I love it. Please never stop. 🤟🏻

Others may disagree. I hope you understand that you have a amazing podcast I bet it just doesn't feel right to me or for me. I don't mean any harm or to be rude I am just giving my opinion on this podcast. Please no hurt feelings. ❤

Senior BisonMy Favorite Disney and more podcast!!Hello… long time listener first time caller… this show is easily the best and most informative as well as entertaining show on the origins of stories compared to their books for our favorite franchises starting in Disney and now beyond with CSO!!! I cannot recommend this show more!! Paul is witty and informative and his production value is ridiculously high for something he claims is a small operation… If you are a fan of the idea of learning what the real stories behind the Disney classics are because like me you know they’re sanitized for modern audiences and you want to hear the Grimm back origin of fairy tales compared to a modern light… this is the show for you!!! Sincerely, Another podcast that is all about that Nerd life Distance NERDing

HKA10001One of my favs!I absolutely love this podcast! I think Paul does a fantastic job breaking down the history/story origins, the books themselves and the films. I enjoy his commentary and various points of views. I feel like I’ve learned something from each episode and I love hearing about my favorite stories and childhood movies! 😊
-
jmjradfordStill Amazing!I happened upon Paul and this podcast (in its Disney iteration) several years ago. It has the quality at or better than the well funded podcasts that are served up to everyone in the suggested podcast feeds. There is so much good stuff to review about. The world needs more content like this, produced with the love and care that Paul gives it.
-
mllrprincess5Great Story Telling PodcastThis is one of the first podcasts I ever starting listening to. The time, effort, research and love for the subject matter comes through in every episode! And haters…if you can’t handle someones opinion coming through once in awhile, maybe go check yourself! I have listened to episodes multiple times, and highly recommend this podcast not just for Disney fans, but fans in general of fun, heartwarming storytelling!!
-
BongoB-@&INTERESTING CONTENT AND ATTN TO DETAILIve been listening for years. One thing i like about this pod is that the maker DOES GO BACK and edits out all the ums and ahhs (unlike SO MANY OTHER PODCASTERS). Keep it up!

caitlin_psI love this podcast!!This is such a great podcast. I had gotten out of listening to it a little bit, but just started up again with the Willy Wonka/Charlie and the chocolate factory episode and it’s just so good. I’m glad that Paul has gotten to branch out into other favorites out of the Disney catalog. It’s a joy to listen too and super interesting.

HEVK94Amazing PodcastTruly a great podcast! It’s apparent that he has a passion for Disney movies and does thorough research before a recording. The soundtrack he incorporates with each episode really brings the “Disney” feeling to life! There are a few rants here and there about his personal life, but it really brings to light the struggle that comes with pursuing a career in the field of media. The author of this podcast has pure talent and I am just waiting for the moment to hear that all his hard work has paid off! He really has so much potential and talent which makes each and every episode a pleasure to listen to!
-
StJohnsDSMamazing, lovely, wonderful, beautiful, intriguing, interesting, and overall the best thing ever.If you’re like,” omg so bad, immature rant about bloggers, ugh so gruss.” Get out. No one likes you. It’s rude, childish, and slightly abusive. This show is amazing, and your ‘critique’ is just hate. Shut up. But seriously this is literally the only podcast I listen to and I have zero ways to make it better. Period sis.

rmb25000Pretty good but…Give me the facts not your opinions.
-
kt323232232Fantastic and CharmingI’ve now almost caught up with every episode that’s been released and continue to be so charmed by this podcast with each listen. The amount of effort to research the stories, draft a script, and find the right sound bites is straight up impressive. I feel like this show is so well produced. If you are a fan of storytelling, this really is perfect for you. The comfort and coziness (for lack of better words lol) of the episodes make you feel like you are back in elementary school sitting in a circle on the floor while your teacher reads you a story and you lose track of all time. Keep it up, this podcast is such a gem.
-
