    My favorite podcast
Been listening to this podcast for years, I absolutely love how in depth Jason and Ashley get with their episodes, even got me excited for a few projects I either had no idea about or didn’t even really care for until I listened to their podcast about it. Plus the top 5 episodes and the ones that break away from their regular formula are always a treat as well. I’ve recommend this podcast more times than k can count to friends and family. Love what you guys do, I’ll always be a listener 🤌🏽

    A must listen
Céad Mile Fáilte fellow Geeks. This is a must listen if you're trying to get up to speed on a Geeky topic before you go see the movie/TV show/Streamer, gonna buy the book or go the the (insert theme) cocktail party. I know I'm 12 too late to ask but any chance of some Judge Dredd or any other 2000A.D. characters. 5 star review you'll say anything? Looking forward to hear you read the opening. Love this show
Hi! Thanks so much for making this podcast. This is my favorite podcast of all time. I really love the X men and I found your episode on Emma Frost after that episode I was hooked. I look forward to a new episode every week. It’s a great stress reliever from a long day of work. Keep up the good work!

    Fantastic
I love this podcast. As someone who just recently found an appreciation of podcasts, I was very happy to find one that I could connect to and held my attention. Ashley and Jason have such great chemistry. I was very surprised that I served with Jason in the Kansas Army National Guard and subsequently was on the same deployment in the early 2000’s. My hats off both of your insights into the world of comics and all things geek.

Show that used to fill me with joy
This was my go to multiple times a week, I felt invested in the hosts lives, and I thought they cared about me as well. Unfortunately, as my partner says all the time, “Stay offline. Online friends are not real friends and don’t care about you at all.” Now the show just makes me sad

    I miss the old theme
The new theme is all build up and no release. It needs that ending flourish! Also Batman Beyond when?

    Late to the party!
Finally found this podcast and it’s amazing! Finding it late does have its advantages. I have a huge library of episodes to choose from. Good information and the “guest stars” are hilarious! Hopefully they can do an episode about Marvel’s Hercules.

    Great pop culture podcast!
I’ve been addicted to this podcast since I’ve discovered it. Listening to 6-7 a week! As a writer, I really appreciate the creative insights Jason, Ashley, and their well curated guests bring to the table. I learn a great deal about the characters I love, and the choices creators made that help made them as wonderful as they are. I’d highly recommend this for anyone looking for a fun, entertaining, engaging, thoughtful and inspiring lesson on the history of global pop culture. P.S— As a black creator and fan, I have always felt safe listening to this podcast. Jason and Ashley make an effort to honor and incorporate diverse and inclusive perspectives into their work, and I really loved the Black Heroes Matter podcast. I wish this podcast and the creators continued success. Excelsior! -M

Great podcast for all geeks and nerds!!!
Love your show. Great format where you give the ten cent origin, meet cute, and then the deep dive. I appreciate how you touch on different franchises along with Marvel and DC. I don’t know if you haven’t done an episode of He-Man and/or GI Joe but I would enjoy hearing one or both. Thank you so much and keep up the great work!!!

    Here’s 5 more stars!
POD is amazing. Super interesting and informative. It’s like each pod is its own story about each characters stories. It’s really impressive. I’m not sure if it will work with the formula but would you consider doing creators as well? We all know the stories of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, but what about a pod on Darwyn Cooke? Thanks again for all the content. Darwyn Cooke pod or not, I will continue to listen.

    Amazing Podcast!!!
Hi, Jason and Ashley and thank you so much for the podcast. I’m Cuban but I live in the states only recently, and believe me, being from a country that’s basically separated for the rest of the world makes it really hard to be a geek, is almost impossible to find comics, so I had to find the information about all the nerdy things that I love from whatever I can get. So of course, when I start living here and I find your podcast it was like I just found a hidden treasure. Your lessons not only teach me about history but I also think that I’m learning a lot about storytelling, and you two had given me so much ideas to play with, since one of my wildest dreams has been to create my own comic book universe. Say hello to intern Brego from me and from my own personal interns that always listen to the podcast with me: Ellie, Bucky and Captain Jack Harness. PS: sorry for the long review, but I would like to suggest an episode on Spawn and also one on all copycat characters that marvel and dc have stolen from each other and why some work better than others

    New Favorite Pod Cast
I got into this show when I ran across them on my Instagram discover page. I notice they had a mega episode on Blue Beetle. As someone who identifies with Ted Kord, maybe a little too much ;) and also having a 4 hour drive ahead of me I decided to give it a listen. I’ve been hooked ever since. I love how Jason and Ashley present the information as well as their own personal connections to the topics each episode. Please do a Batman Beyond episode if you haven’t already! Best Wishes, Bobby McGruther

    Great Show… just woke 🤦🏻‍♂️
Very good information just wish the host would keep the political correctness out of covering the content and Ashley’s laugh is 😝

Informative, fun, comforting, and caring, like an old friend
Geek History Lesson and the Mind University have been a constant on my podcast feed since 2015's Darkseid episode. The energy, fascinating facts, and hilarious skits that Jason and Ashley (and research assistant Diego and intern Brego!) bring to each episode make it a must-listen each week. The bonus episodes where they talk to creators, analyze (or mock) character lists online, or review episodes of the Justice League cartoon series (with Mind University faculty Jeremy) are well worth the $5 a month for patreon access. Plus, the discord community they have created and currated is one of the nicest and most positive places on the internet. Quick shout out to my cousin Alex, who recommends me great comics and keeps asking what GHL episode he should listen to next. Go for the Darkseid episode! I can guarantee it's a lasting starting place. Thank you Ashley and Jason! Lots of love, Russ Walker, Lord of the Chickens

    Needs more summarizing/editing
The history lessons themselves (especially prior to ~2017) are good, they give a lot of information on the discussed topic and are especially good at breaking down often convoluted comics timelines in a way that makes sense. Unfortunately more and more fluff has been added in over time, to the point where episodes have gotten way longer and are typically only about 50% the lesson, 25% banter and off-topic tangents, and 25% ads and self-promotion. I respect the hustle, but the amount of talking about their Patreon and various side projects is absurd. I don’t know of any other podcast that has nearly as much or that has the same air of entitlement, and it is sprinkled through the episode rather than grouped in one place.

A Valuable podcast in a sea of podcasts
Informative, but the banter is often juvenile. Ashley brings a great contemporary perspective. Jason phrases too much material as a guessing game, which is exhausting and annoying. The show offers a wide range of topics, from cult films, major franchises, and fun dives into comic and sci-fi properties. Their dives are wide and deep, without getting lost in obscurities. Their angle is refreshing: a basic course on major properties. Perfect for the Daredevil expert who knows nothing about Green Arrow; the Teen Titans fanatic with little familiarity of The Scarlet Witch. Here is an observation: modern takes on fantasy and science fiction tend to be aspirational and inclusive, while traditional storytelling throughout the ages can be stark and severe, offering a brutal take on a brutal way of life. This disconnect results in criticism of some older material for being prejudiced, when it could be argued that such material was simply being sophisticated and reflective of cruel realities.

    To my battle buddies
Yall are freaking awesome! If this was the Games of Thrones.. yall two would be sitting on the iron throne. This is Gracia again from the lonestar state. Hailing from Fort Hood Texas. I am not going to put in any request but since we are on the topic can we talk about Castlevania? Thank you for all that yall do.. I always feel like I have two friends to talk to when I listen to yall. And when I feel alone, like no one understands what I'm going through, I remember my friends who get it.” – Miles Morales

    Raven
I love this podcast but do you think you could do an origin of Raven from dc comics or Jericho (deathstroke’s son)
  • Wriopel
    Great info!
I love the information about the characters and topics they go really in depth. The only thing that detracts is the random political views they try to sneak in randomly. It really takes you out of the episode.

    Love the show!
Love the show guys! Really enjoy the deep dives into characters. I’ve told all my nerd buddies to give the show a shot, they won’t be disappointed.

Used to be one of my favorite pods.
This show has been great for a long time, but has become very snarky over the past year or so. The anti-US comments really detract from my enjoyment of the material. It’s gotten so bad I’m considering unsubscribing.

Love this podcast and the hosts are fantastic. As an old-school comic book/ geek fan it’s a great way for me to relive some of my favorite geek moments without having to dig up my collection lol.

    Does help
I don’t listen to every episode but these two have helped me from living in the dark to coming into the light with the knowledge they bring. They make it fun so you’re not just listening to someone talk for however long and the hosts are relatable

    Pros and Cons
Pros; Rob’s take on the history of comics, comic book artists, pop culture and his heyday are interesting. Cons; Rob is very arrogant, his patting himself on the back is difficult to take at times. He struggles to get his sentences out, stumbling and stammering through his thoughts, and just fast forward past the parts where he tries to read something. Despite the short comings if you’re a fan of comic books it’s worth a listen, just take Rob’s Robservations with a grain of salt.

    Updated: Great Podcast!
With a few more listens as well as relistens, I have realized that any of my previous critiques were unfounded so I wanted to redo my previous review with a more educated opinion. Truth be told, this is one of the best places to get information on everything in Geek culture in an extremely entertaining package. Even when I think that I know everything there is about one of their subjects, I still come out learning something new after listening in. Jason and Ashley have a blast talking about la vida nerdy and you can really tell. Take a dive in, you won’t regret it!

    Absolutely Fan-Freaking-Tastic
Ashley and Jason are a fantastic duo and know so much about comics it boggles my mind. This is my go to podcast for comics research whenever I need to figure out what to read next or do some research for my own podcast, Dude, We Should Make a Podcast (shameless plug). Keep up the good work you guys are an inspiration to all of us. Ps. I am patiently awaiting a Multiple Man episode.

    The Variant
I started listening to GHL about a year ago. I listened to all the episodes and then ended with Kang. I loved all the episodes so much I went “back in time” to listen to them all again for the first time. In the process I created a variant who stopped listening after RoboCop and he became a futuristic hero who has saved the world several times over. Thank you Jason and Ashley for creating a real life time cop.

Geek Stuff For Geeks Who Aren’t Annoying
Okay so honestly I’ve tried to listen to other geek/nerd/fandom based poscasts and sorry not sorry but a lot of it is like bad dudes being gatekeepy and annoying. But GHL is fun to listen to and I don’t feel like I’m being talked down to or that like they’d ask me to name three DC villains if they saw me at a con. Great work, keep it up.

    My Absolute Favorite Podcast
You asked if listeners listened to podcasts with their pets? The answer is yes! My German Shepherd Narsil and I listen to every one of your podcasts and we love all of them, although she and I are certainly partial to the Lord of the Rings episodes. I drive a lot as a police dog and service dog trainer and Your podcast helps fill the time. Thank you for an awesome podcast.

    Truly Exceptional
Two years ago, I decided to try out “podcasts.” I wasn’t sure where to even start so I just went to the search bar and typed in comic books. Immediately, GHL popped up and I’ve been an avid fan since. Comic books aside, Ashley and Jason are exceptional hosts with natural camaraderie. The oneeeee thing I would suggest however, is more Marvel content. I love DC as much as I do Marvel, but I wish this podcast dived a little more into the other half of the big two! Exceptional podcast, exceptional hosts, exceptional everything else in between. Thanks for making my life a little better. - Liam Willis P.S. Ashley is an amazing host, any of these reviews that say otherwise are just triggered by assertive women!

    The Best
Hey Ashley and Jason! I’ve been listening to this podcast for YEARS now, since I was in middle school. I used to watch Jason on the DC Nation shorts and I got introduced to Ashley through the podcast. I’m in my second year of University now and it’s always a joy to listen to the two of you talk about a topic I was already aware of, or one that I have no reference for. It’s always my first stop when I need to learn about a new character, story, or period in comics. Thanks a bunch. P.S. I was lucky enough to run into Ashley at C2E2 2022, and there we talked about Nightwing, comics, the show, and I dropped how in working on trying to work in comics and draw for them. She wished me luck and parted ways, and since then I have been working on sequentials for editors to look at. Thank you so much for the well wishes.

    Ashley is insufferable
I had previously given this show five stars I always enjoyed listening to Jason while trying my best to ignore Ashley. But I’ve reached a point to where she is just too frustrating to listen to, I don’t want peoples personal beliefs or ridiculous opinions in this podcast. I just want my Geek History Lesson.Listened to an episode today five minutes into it I decided that I will no longer listen to this podcast

    Love it
I’m so excited to have you read my review. You would have received 10 stars if it was possible, that’s how great the podcast is. Now onto the fun part. Please immortalize these words for me to use in the future when I screw up with my wife. “Staci I’m sorry. I love you. Please forgive me. You are my Wonder Woman. Remember, I can save today, you can save the world.”

    Awesome Lessons
Can’t believe it took me this long to enroll in class, but I’ve been loving every lesson. I have a lot of curriculum to catch up on. Looking forward to it very much.

    Totally dope podcast!
Thanks for all the cool lessons, I work night shift and you guys totally make my time go by faster. Nightwing is my favorite just like Jason, so that made me like y’all right off the bat. You two are definitely the dynamic duo of podcasting. I hope you eventually do a Lesson on The Question or Lee Falk’s The Phantom. Thanks again so much!

    Such an awesome podcast
It’s taken me far too long to leave a review and I’ve been listening since Gem and the Holograms. I absolutely love Professors Ashley and Jason as they teach such wonderful lessons. Still waiting on a Kilawog or a Harry Dresden episode. Anyway if you want some good belly laughs while learning about comic book characters or other geeky stuff then this is the podcast for you.

I love both of you!!! The energy you have and passion is amazing. You are by far my favorite podcast. I was wondering what is your guys favorite justice league storyline. Also I will admit I haven’t listened to any marvel topics. I’m only a fan of the movies I can’t get into the comics….
