    Best Biking Podcast
This is the best biking podcast I have found. Tim is informative and brings a lot of humor to the discussion. I look forward to Thursdays just to get to listen to a new episode.

    Enjoy Your Podcast
I have been a regular listener for a couple of years. I really enjoy Tim’s story telling style and how he mixes in great travel and technique info. I particularly enjoyed the latest podcast episode on California. I was very pleased to find out that he used the Santa Anna River Trail. It was great for us to finally share a common trip location! I was working in Fullerton CA for a little over 3 months in 1987. When I found out this trail was nearby I had my wife ship me my bike. It arrived unscathed in a few days. I have very fond memories of getting off work and immediately taking my Trek road bike straight down to Huntington Beach every day. I would ride that that path as far as I could then reluctantly turn around and head back to the motel. I was only about two blocks away from the trail and it was ideal. Thanks to you Tim for jogging that memory!

    Review and suggestion
Hi Tim, I’ve been listening to your pod for years, mostly while cranking my recumbent exercise bike in my basement, and I enjoy it quite a bit. Thanks for doing it! I’m 76 and, thanks mostly to biking I’m in good shape except for some arthritis, but the best solution for that is to keep moving. So I do! For me, the fun of biking helps me to live longer and better. I also listen to Diane Jenks, the outspoken cyclist. She recently got me hooked on Dr. Gabe Mirkin who is a retired physician who has two hobbies: riding his tandem with his wife, and researching medical research about health and nutrition. If you’re not getting his weekly newsletter, you’re missing a wealth of bike relevant info. A little bit about me, I’m a retired cop who became hooked on biking in 1981 after doing a triathlon. I did a cross country trip in 2009. Just love it. Paul Buelterman Florence, ky

Approachable and engaging bike touring podcast
Tim does a great job of making a one man podcast interesting and engaging. I love his tour diaries where he shares from the road. He also provides great insight into touring in general, from routes and route planning, to gear and repair. I started listening to this last summer after a friend recommended it. I was preparing for my first bike tour (of the Oregon coast, which Tim often rides) and it was invaluable information to making an undertaking that felt very daunting much more approachable. My wife and I completed the coast and had a blast. I would say this podcast is the Oregon coast of bike touring pods.

Please keep reading the names of the contributors. It gives the podcast a small comfortable feeling. That and I like hearing my name read.

    Love this podcast
Tim should change his last name from Mooney to Money, because he is on point. Truest enjoy listening to him talk his way through a ride, explaining gear or even planning a trip. Ride your ride Sir, and I will listen.

I love this podcast so much!
This podcast is wonderful. Love the rides and hearing about them. Please don’t ever stop doing it!!!

    This podcast can inspire you...
I have to say I didn’t know what to make of his podcast at first but I realized he’s great at narrating his tours and telling the story. If you a chance to hear the one about biking with pugs. It was one of the better segments and the oompah music complimented the story well. Occasionally it can get a bit dorky but the topics he covers is extremely informative. Effectively this podcast can inspire you because he makes bike touring relatable and is able to tell some great stories about how touring can be accessible to anyone and things we all relate to.

    Enough
The podcast is great, but please, please, Please stop repeating the list of your contributors. When I’m not driving, I fast forward when the recitation starts. When I can’t do that, I find it more and more annoying. Give them extra content if you want, but don’t ask me to listen to their names.

    Best touring podcast ever
Tim love the show. You inspired me to take my first tour. It may have been a bit much, as I quickly learned a loaded bike tax’s you way quicker then your daily ride. Thanks for what you do. P.S. my sub 24 was 80 miles each way :/

    Helpful and entertaining
I just binge listened to every episode I could get my ear holes on. Very informative and entertaining. I hope to do more bike tours and I am positive my next one will be c&o and gap. Keep doing what you are doing. Great job!!!

    What a fun ride!
Love this podcast and it’s a lot of fun to follow Tim on his cycling journey. I’ve been cycling for over 40 years (Oy...) and it’s great to hear the enthusiasm, thoughtfulness, and high energy! Keep up the good work and keep the rubber side down my friend! -Rob from Philly

Island in a storm AKA Inspiration
I found this podcast after listening to the amazing Portland crew (Sprocket Podcast) and found this island full a wealth of information about bicycle touring wrapped in inspiration. I was getting ready for the adventure of a lifetime and needed help with everything if I was to pedal the Upcoming 600 mile Pacific Northwest (I made it by the way). This is the podcast filled with “Why Not” attitude that replaces doubt with knowledge. If you are looking for a guide to manage and prepare for a touring adventure look no further. As I prepare for next adventure of having my Hip (ya last time was my knee ... old parts brake lol) replaced you better believe this is a comforting island in this storm I’ll be listening to prepare to ride again. Your in for a treat if you join in and listen.

    Great show for cycling enthusiasts!
I just finished listening to episode 158 and I wanted to post how much I loved it! It contained great information about WQED’s cycling documentary about the C&O/Greater Allegheny Passage route between D.C. and Pittsburgh called the Great Ride. Tim Mooney’s friendliness and enthusiasm comes through in this segment and the next’s where he walks a beginner bike tourist through workout regimen and route planning. He and the guys at the Sprocket Podcast have helped me to get out of my comfort zone and take on cycle commuting and touring. Thanks Tim!

    Entertaining and informative.
Love this podcast. Tim is very informative and and funny. I am preparing to do the Cowboy trail in Nebraska this May, and this podcast has given me many many tips and things to consider. It will be my first time doing a bike trip at this magnitude, so its also really nice to listen to interviews of people who also are first timers, as well as seasoned bikers. Thanks for the hard work Tim and I can’t wait for the next episode!

From someone with no business considering touring
An enjoyable and informative blog. I’m not fit for any bike tour that extends past my local ice cream shop, but this is inspiring me to go farther.

    The Best Bike Touring Podcast
A Pug-powered pedalfest :-). Tim has the best bike touring podcast on the web. Tour planning, tips, techniques, gear, routes, interviews, he has it all. He also has the audio quality/podcast technique down and presents the podcast really well; he is clearly well prepared but doesn't take himself too seriously. Also check out his tour journals.

Tour all the time with Tim!
Oh, man, do I love the Pedalshift Project! Discovered this a year ago and binged like crazy for a while till I was current. Haven't toured for 25+ years, but TPP got me inpired again and I've now done 3 tours in the past year AND gotten my dad and younger brother into it too! But, even when I'm not on tour, I listen to Tim and I feel like I'm out there again. Great job, man. Keep it up!

    Such a help & fun!!!
A year ago I decided to ride accross America for my 58th birthday. on June 11th, I fly to PDX to meet my bike in Astoria. Then I ride back to New Hampshire. With only 3 nights of touring under my belt thus far, once I discovered Tim's Pedalshift podcast, I binge-listened all the episodes. Tim, you've given me more good ideas about touring than I could have ever imagined, and you've motivated & encouraged me & made me laugh along the way. Thank you! Love your joy man. This podcast is the perfect mix of topics.

I might have to stop listening
After listening to Tim each week it makes it hard to show up to work in the mornings. Why am I not doing the Trans-Am this year?

A must for the bike tour-curious

    I HAVE FOUND MY PEOPLE
I have stumbled upon my tribe after staggering so long alone! Thank you Tim for the info/laughter/hints and interviews. I am a newbie at touring but after bindge listening to your excellent podcast I am feeling confident enough to take my non-biking better half on a very short tour down the C and O. Wish us luck!!!

    Yes, you should listen.
Not only is this an excellent podcast and source for bicycle touring stories and information, I also support winged angels. Yes, you should listen.
  • RocketScientistsNeighbor
    More than a podcast.
Be careful listening to the Pedalshift. You may think you’re just listening to engaging anecdotes from the road, or learning useful tidbits about bike touring. But you’re actually becoming part of a community. And before long, you may find yourself going on adventures, meeting new people, and having a great time. It happened to me. So be warned.

    Inspiring
Tim Mooney produces one of the most professional, engaging podcasts you'll ever hear. He is articulate and entertaining and... authentic. He's honest about his accomplishments and occasional failings. You can't help but feel inspired to get on your bike and start pedaling. - Cliff

    Great Bike Podcast
The Pedalshift Project provides fantastic insight, tips and techniques for bikepacking. This DC native provides great tips, techniques and equipment reviews all relating to the topic. This podcast has a fantastic prodction level, and Tim is a great speaker. I especially enjoy the details and descriptions of the trails that happen to be local to both the host and myself. The descriptions of trips on the C&O and GAP trails are very helpful as I plan my future trip into the mountains from the DC, including the detail of the public transportation options including Amtrak and local busses. Thanks for a great show!
  • MattClose
    good show!

  • Crockett Sarver
    Thank you
What a great podcast. I am fairly new to cycling and became interested in your podcast after my friend Rob Knapp told me about it (you interviewed him in episode 81). So I have been listening to all of the episodes since. I have 3 episodes left to say I am completely caught up. My wife and I are planning a trip on the GAP. Thank you for the insight and knowledge that you have given over the years. It has inspired me to just go do it. Thanks again

    Love Pedalshift!
I'm a semi-experienced two-wheeled tourist currently trying to integrate riding more into my life and travel. I wish I'd known about this podcast when I was just starting out touring -- it certainly would have saved me a bunch of headaches and accelerated my learning. Nowadays I listen for Tim's sensible advice, rational opinions about stuff, and general good vibes. Particularly relevant for me lately has been the advice about flying with or transporting my bike. More than anything though, and I say this as someone who tours mostly solo, this podcast has been a bit of a front door to the large community of people who love to set out on two wheeled adventures as much as I do. I know you pop up in Portland once in a while Tim, but should you ever end up a bit north in Seattle (national hub of Alaska airlines, so bring that bike for cheap!) please give me a shout and we'll go for a ride up here in the great Northwest. Final piece of shameless promotion (if Apple will even let me post this) ... I write about some of my biking adventures -- find that stuff (if you'd like) at 4ranges [d0t] wordpress [d0t] com. Keep up the great work Tim and many thanks!

    Fun and entertaining cycling info
I don't tour yet, but Tim's podcast is great info for when I eventually do. In the meantime it is very entertaining and good info even for just my 1 day rides. Go Cuse!!

    One of my favorites
Pedalshift has quickly grown into one of my favorite podcasts. Host always provides helpful information and most importantly inspires me to do more bicycle touring. Has definitely changed how I bike and how I see the biking world. Great job! I highly recommend.

    Binge worthy
Wow! So glad I stumbled upon this podcast back in February sitting on a stationary bike in a gym I hated to be at. It got me through the winter and I this morning finished catching up after binging every episode from start to finish. I live in Utah where winters are long. Having Pedalshift to listen to getting me ready for spring when I could get back out on my bike was just the thing I needed. Thank you Tim Mooney for all of the care and detail you give to this podcast and bicycle touring.

Great podcast! Am headed to ride a long weekend on the KATY trail in Missouri in two weeks. Keep up the good work !

    Wonderful
Even though Tim lives far from me (I'm in Utah) and frequents tour routes different than I do, his tips and tricks are valuable. My favorite part of this show is the encouragement it gives me to keep planning and riding multi-day tours with my wife.

    Excellant
I never miss a show. Because of the podcast I rode the Pitt to DC ride this summer.

    Great biking information
Found this while looking for information on the C&O trail. With Tim's insight; two rides I have completed on the C&O where smooth sailing. This is a great podacast for the biking community whether one tours or just loves to ride around town. Tim's biking enthusiasum is infectous and very motivational.

    Love the Show
Found this podcast after searching for more bike touring info, and I just caught up listening to the whole archives. Now I'm sad that I have to wait for new episodes instead of getting to listen to 2-3 a day :( But I love the stories from different bike tours, and I really enjoy the gear talk. I haven't done any overnight tours just yet, but I just finished up converting my old no-suspension MTB into somewhat of a touring bike, and hoping to get to do at least a weekend trip this fall to a nearby State Park, and looking into ideas for a longer trip next year, maybe the GAP that Tim speaks so highly of! Thanks Tim, keep it up!

    long runs
I'm in the home stretch of marathon training season and look forward to every long run to binge listen to your show! After completing the Chicago marathon in October, I plan on putting all this knowledge to work and hit the open road on my bike. Thanks for sharing all knowledge and stories. Keep the rubber side down!

The Place I want to Be
Pedalshift, Tim, and guests take me to where I want to be...imagining my next bike trip, local ride, and neat piece of gear I'd like to buy or make. I love my work, my day-to-day--I'm a pretty lucky person. But it's bikes, bikes, and bikes that is regularly on my mind. I'm planning a Pacific Coast tour and just bought "The Book" so thanks!

Let's Shrink The World By Bike.
Listening to the stories Tim and others share about their tours and journeys, help me deal with not being able to tour as much as I would like. Learning new tips and tricks, as well as route suggestions and reviews are my favorite points within each show. One day, I hope to be able to run into Mr. Mooney while touring on the West Coast! Safe travels all! #teamJohnnyK

    Awesomeness
I really have enjoyed this podcast. The host brings his practical experience and wisdom to the episodes. He has the ability to draw you in and many times I feel like I am right there with him through his adventures. Even though I have never met him he has become a good friend that I look forward to hearing from each week

    Great bikecast!
Love to listen to the podcast while out biking. My brother-in-law got me hooked on bike touring and now I try soaking up as much knowledge as I can to be better prepared for the next one. Tim does a great job of providing great ideas on how to make the next tour better than the last.

    Inspiring Podcast
Great podcast. What I like: The gear talk (The podcast isn't geared (pun intended) towards describing technical aspects but I do like when it is talked about) The interviews with other touring people (funny, entertaining, informative) Sharing his ways of simplifying and making money (I would love to hear more stories from other people and how they make enough money to keep the touring lifestyle but Tim shares quite a few details on how he gets by while traveling) Sharing of resources Community building Suggestions: Throw in a little more gear talk Episode on relationships and sustaining them while touring More guests Keep on doing what you do! I love the podcast, thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
