    Good Podcast
I enjoy the podcast. I miss Eric’s taste + opinions, can’t believe it but sometimes i miss the constant interrupting and talking over each other. Ryan is a better fit with Anne. The all year round-non stop award talk can get a bit tedious, but overall I appreciate the insight into the biz side + festivals

    Informative but flawed podcast
Ryan is such a step up from Eric.

    Who are these annoying people?
    Ugh

    Luca Guadagnino
Love the show for its insight into the movie business and film festivals in general, but it drives me crazy to hear the moderators’ mispronunciation of Luca Guadagnino’s name every single time. It’s [ˈluːka ɡwadaɲˈɲiːno]. Please get it right! Saying it wrongly takes away a great deal of your credibility and authority as movie critics.

    Missing Eric
It’s fine to not like a movie, but Ryan attacking fellow critics is gross. Still love the podcast.

    Welcome Ryan!
Loving the switch, with sadly Eric departing, to Anne as main host and RYAN! He has such great energy. The podcast feels more exciting and high energy. Much more pleasurable to the ear. Go Ryan!

Great content - too many interruptions
I will also echo what other reviewers say. I really enjoy the content and their discussions, however. Does Anne really have to force her way into every sentence Eric has? When I listen to the podcast on some episodes, it was irritating. I really want to hear what Eric has to say and sometimes Anne does not let him finish a thought/sentence and it gets to be way too much. If there was equal dialogue between the 2 of them, that would be great.

    Good content, but
The interruptions from Anne are becoming almost intolerable. I would like to hear from both her and Eric who are both knowledgeable. Perhaps separate podcasts because it appears she can’t stop herself and he is too nice.

Sometimes the flow is not good
The female host really interrupts too much and it affects the flow of the show and it sounds so disrespectful.
  • C_Andy24
    Anne needs to stop interrupting
Great insight and good discussions but Anne is constantly interrupting at mid sentence her co-host. Which is very annoying and disrespectful. You can tell she has passion for the topic but needs to calm down and let other people finish their thoughts.

    Two critics battling for position
This has the chance to be a great film podcast, but you have two very strongly opinionated critics that don’t let each other finish their thoughts. It’s less listening to each other and more I need to get my opinion out before you.
  • Jenny DF
    So much interruption.
This reminded me of people talking over each other at a dinner table! It was mostly her. Can she let him get to the end of his sentence and they say hers? It’s hard to follow this level of interruption on a podcast.
  • TravisAClark
    Great content - bad podcasting
Would be great if the host could learn to not talk over each other.

    She's gotta stop
Ok podcast ruined by her incessant interruptions, in which she speaks over him for multiple sentences at a time. Insane! Let him finish a single thought without your obnoxious yammering

    Finally Saying Something
I have followed Anne for a long time. I think she’s great and she knows her stuff- but DAMN… she interrupts and talks all over Eric all the time. (He does it some, too, by the way.) It is extremely aggravating and diminishes the intent of this podcast. Please back that down some, guys. So annoying! I would give this podcast five stars for content and knowledge but I’m gonna drop it to three for this talking all over each other business. Please STOP.
  • filmfan293
    Good
They’re great except yes, she does interrupt him all the time. I’ve never heard anyone interrupt someone that much on a podcast. But they are not snobs, as some have complained. And the sound quality is fine
  • Bbaker237
    Eesh…
If you want to listen to nasally movie snob and a pretentious “expert” disagree and talk over each other… this is the podcast for you.
  • cs_beaton
    Great podcast subject matter but
Why does Anne keep interrupting and arguing with Eric? It’s incredibly annoying to listen to, Eric starts great thoughts that we never get to hear the end of

    Interrupting
This is a great pod and super interesting but Anne never stops interrupting and cutting Eric off and it’s maddening to listen to after a while, which is a bummer because it’s a smart podcast.
  • Czapata161
    let eric speak PLEASE
it’s immediately evident how knowledge these two are, but Eric’s insights are often cut short by his co-host Anne, who rarely lets him get a word in without rudely interrupting and constantly challenges his judgement. i spent years working with podcasts, and it’s shocking how long this has gone unchecked. this just doesn't make for good listening. i can only put myself in eric’s shoes, and it’s infuriating every time Anne cuts him off. i assume this has been brought up and she refuses to do anything about it, but whatever the case it needs to stop. i can read any industry expert’s dry take online, i tune in to hear expert voices CONVERSE about the news—not talk at each other. really disappointing because i do want to hear what Anne has to say, just not how she says it.
  • jdjdjnxjd
    I'm out. Anne is insufferable.
If you like smug and condescending hosts, this is the podcast for you. Anne rarely lets Eric finish a thought, and she acts like he's not worthy of her company. And she'll spoil movies without warning.
  • P h i l l y
    Rude
Why is Anne so rude to Eric? She’s incredibly condescending to any points anyone else makes. This is a podcast and a conversation between the hosts; but with Anne, it’s so unpleasant.
  • japlka
    Happy
So happy to hear you together again. I appreciated your comments on Bones and All. Most movies haven’t opened here yet and maybe won’t. Guadagnino’s is the only one I will search out and travel to see (central California here).
  • knischol
    This doesn’t work without Anne
For the longest time I used to be bothered about them talking over each other and Anne kinda bashing Eric. But now that Anne has been away for a bit, it’s clear that without their dynamic there is no show. And frankly Eric needs to kept in check as is very apparent when left to his own devices. So, Anne come back soon!
  • buzzbuzz724
    love you two but
This feedback seems to fall on deaf ears, judging by years of negative reviews. Anne, we love you but please let Eric complete a thought before jumping on his throat for daring to question your knowledge. Yes, you’re a Hollywood expert but the way you defend studio/award show decisions to your co-host has me side eyeing your objectivity (ex: Oscar category presentation decision). The hostile tone doesn’t help either. I continue to tune in every week, but at this point it’s an act of masochism.
  • Lisa Zzzzz
    Good but frustrating
Lots of great industry info and hot takes, but Anne is constantly interrupting and dismissive of Eric. Sometimes he’s trying to finish a sentence (that I really want to hear) and she cuts him off and diverts the point. It must be so annoying for him and he lets it slide off him. Anne is so knowledgeable and experienced but jeez Louise, give Eric air. It is not a competition.

Anne + Eric = Dream Team / Essential podcast for anyone working in entertainment
This is hands down the best film podcast I’ve discovered. I’ve been a loyal listener (every week!) since 2018 and Anne and Eric have helped me grow my knowledge of the film industry, which has helped fuel my interest in films and filmmaking and my professional growth as a Hollywood business affairs exec. I feel a sense of community listening to their banter and their weekly conversations on Screen Talk are truly a gift I look forward to all week. Their points of view complement each other so well - Anne, with such a strong grasp on the industry and business side of film, and Eric a critic with a great POV (and of course their experience overlaps!). With respect to many of the disrespectful comments here about a certain host “cutting off” the other - I STRONGLY disagree. Anne and Eric are different people with distinct personalities and honestly I love it when Anne chimes in. She has so much experience and knowledge so IMHO it helps their conversation (it’s called 2 adults having a conversation, people cut each other off). Thank you Anne and Eric!!

    LOVE THIS show
As much s I love this show I would like to see the hosts share their twitter or social handed each weeks that I might engage with them after listening. I certainly look forward to the show each week and apprecaite what it adds to my own film experience.

    SPOILER ALERT
Not sure why Anne thinks it’s cool to spoil movies that she discusses. Telling us that characters die in a movie is typically a spoiler. Especially if audiences know zero about the film besides the basic plot. She’s done this on more than one occasion.
  • jzd82
    Ruined by the endless interruptions
A lot of good stuff but I’m amazed that such a high profile podcast STILL involves this much interrupting and talking over each other, primarily from Anne. How has no one spoken to her about this? No other major podcast I’ve listened to has this problem.
  • Not sur e
Anne please hand over the reigns
Eric Is great. Anne is not good at podcasting. Please stick to writing and give a younger person the chance to shine with Eric on the podcast. There are many times that I cannot finish the 30 minute podcast do to her being a blow hard.
  • EllieMcfearson
Anne! Please I beg you let the man finish!
I really love the content and what both of them have to share but honestly I just want to scream when Anne doesn’t allow her cohost to finish! Like Lady you will get your turn to talk.
  • Loyal Listener 2021
    I like Anne, but...
Dear Anne, I admire your work and you’re great at what you do. But can you please, please stop spoiling movies that the public won’t get a chance to see for months. This isn’t just connected to The Power of the Dog. This problem has been an issue for years now with you. Hope you see this.
  • Chris739
Intelligent conversations but VERY DIFFICULT to listen to
I get a lot of information out of this podcast but the two hosts (especially Anne Thompson) consistently talk over and interrupt each other. This has made me turn the podcast off multiple times despite how informative it can be. (It simply becomes too difficult to listen to.) There are also too many audio issues. Great content, but the hosts need to work on their presentation skills.
  • mrmrcleland
    Fantastic
Wonderful hosts with the greatest inside scoop on the week in cinema. Both fantastic interviewers in person as well - always happy when I see Anne or Eric moderating a Q&A!
  • lucyd52
    Really hard to hear
The hosts have great things to say, much of which I miss because they are talking over each other. And zoom exacerbated it 10x to the point I had to stop listening, Please let each other finish.
  • LouLilCo
    Fizzles out quick
I was interested in the topics but they have no chemistry and it is can be plodding and awkward.

    Informative Entertaining & Current
Anne and Eric are GREAT. They’re long-standing professional-and I assume personal- relationship makes for a genuinely good, and easy to listen along, conversation from start to finish. They make me laugh. This show is PERFECT for people who are in to current films and tv shows, with a focus on Independent films obviously, as well as up to date insight into current events of the Indie, Studio, and even the Streaming worlds. Loved being able to take advantage of, and recap, these virtual film festivals! I very much value their opinion in terms of recommendations as well. Highly recommend 10/10.
  • BriSlayer
    Best in the biz
In a field incredibly oversaturated right now, Anne and Eric are the real deal. Eric is an insightful critic, Anne has been immersed in the industry for a long time and KNOWS Oscar. They have a unique banter that works for me!! Love them both.
  • Natalo99
    Kinda Hostile
Not a very enjoyable podcast at all. I love IndieWire’s articles and predictions so I decided to give this a try. I made it 5 minutes into the episode on the Golden Globes before I got frustrated enough to turn it off. The hosts talk over each other and sound hostile. I recommend Little Gold Men if you are wanting a good movie podcast. The hosts have a good rapport and overall is more enjoyable.
  • Myprops
    Stop the over talk
Ann, you’re ruining podcast by over talking your co host still love the podcast though.
  • Sukiija
    Insufferable
Both hosts come off as incredibly rude and condescending towards one another, constantly speaking over, correcting, and one-upping each other. Where's the joy in discussing film in this way? Ew.
  • angryoldblacklady
    Over talk
Please let the poor guy finish a sentence. And you really don’t know what a meme is. So irritating thanks for letting us know how superior by telling us you’re a cinephile and you study Welles and Citizen Kane. Take a breath from your bragging and let the guy make a point and finish a sentence
  • Lawrencesocal
    Over talking
Just tried to listen to the episode on “Soul “ and had to stop. It seemed like he couldn’t get a complete thought out before being interrupted. Both seemed to complete for air time making this difficult to listen to.
  • Bentmeister
A show about Anne lamenting festivals she can’t attend amid Covid-19
The only thing keeping me from giving this show five stars is Anne’s constant mansplaining, obsession with telling us what films she’s seen and festivals she’s been to, and the general of feeling of condescension and irrelevance the show makes me feel as an independent filmmaker myself. Otherwise awesome and informative show!
  • HappyTheFish
    My All-Time Favorite Podcast
The best way I’ve found to keep up-to-date with current events in film on both a micro and macro scale. Genuinely get so excited every time a new episode is released.

Unsubscribe — Quit Talking Over Each Other!!!
Not worth your time, folks. The Big Picture (The Ringer) does a similar pod and executes it MUCH more professionally and enjoyably. Here, the hosts are so obsessed with making sure that their points are heard that they interrupt and talk over each other to the point where you literally can’t even make out what they’re saying. I don’t know if they’ve deluded themselves into thinking their audience appreciates the banter — we don’t. I came for insights, which have been rendered unintelligible by way of oneupmanship. Seeing as how this is th number one complaint on the rest of the iTunes reviews, the hosts clearly do not give AF about the listener (your) experience. Why give them any attention when they’ve proven how little they care about their listeners? A great majority of the blame can be attributed to Anne Thompson, but Eric Kohn certainly has his moments too. Again, steer way clear of this one, people.
  • Mielleaaaa
    Volume control
Please pay attention to the volume control. Quite often, it gets really hard to hear what they are saying. The volume of their voices keep switching between extremely loud in one moment and then too small even with the highest volume setting. I’m not sure if it’s because they are moving away from a mic, or sound editing is not good. Whatever the reason is, it’s really annoying to constantly adjusting volume!
  • drblw
    So hard to listen to
I enjoy the info. The truly talk over each other more than not, so grating
  • BBQ Calendar Guy
    A hard listen
The production values on this podcast are unbearably bad. Like they’re talking to each other through tin cans and a string. Can’t you put a little money into better mics and a sound engineer?
